I have lost 70 pounds with intermittent fasting. At first I started out with the 19 hour fast and did really well. Then I dropped it down to 12 hour fast still lost weight and now I am sticking to the 16:8 fast. I am still losing about a pound a week. I really believe it is consistency. I don’t eat junk food anymore.

I do that. I'm not losing a pound even in one week. I'm so depressed because of of that. I don't eat after 8pm. Then I don't eat until at least noon. Then I have eggs and bacon for my first meal. That's no carbs. Then meat and a veg for dinner about 5-6:00.

Cut snacks and sugar and went to a 2MAD with a 18-6 fasting and a 1 hr swim daily, and have consistently lost 1.5-2 Lbs / week. Weighed in at 295 and now down to 215 within a year. Sugar reduction was very effective in reducing inflammation and improving an arthritis condition. I found it easy to adapt to a new ritual. Not Keto but slow carbs and watching the level of foods on the glycemic scale. Researched insulin resistance and have now been on the journey to trend from pre-diabetic to normal glucose / blood levels. Never realized how important insulin was to losing weight until doing the research. Daily exercise combined with a better diet has drastically improved my fatty liver condition. The next challenge will be rectifying loose skin which is a by product of the weight loss but that takes time.

@@Trendle222 It's all intertwined. No carbs no sugar is a huge benefit it does enable a carb deficit. Exercise as in my swimming burns about 500 claories, so even in a week its only 500 x 7 = 3500 calories which equates to 1 pound. But exercise also promotes autophagy which is a whole other issue. Cut carbs to the lowest possible and you will lose weight. I am still dropping 1-2 pounds per week. Now down to 208 as of today Fasting is difficult if you consume too many carbs as when you eat carbs your hunger never feels under control.

May 5 2023: OMG does this make so much sense especially when you noted like beginning at 11 am for breakfast then you are on a very flexivle time to eat with the rest of the family and friends. I personally habitually eat closer to 10 am and then with a busy schedule “grazing” which is getting me in stand. Loving the suggestions and I am so on it. Perfect timing for me with several events coming up. Also, I have attempted this before but it was on a time that was not conducive or natural for me in time. Yeah finally!

So I can eat between 12 - 5pm . That sort of suits me best right now . I eat good at lunch and supper is really small . Hoping to do OMAD once I adjust to this limited eating window . Yes I feel better and no sugar is still a little hard but everything takes time . Thanks for your interesting video !

I am still doing OMAD with a salad with kale, other veggies, protein , and dressing most days. Since reading your book, however, I am adding an occasional small portion of carbs back to my diet. If I go up or stay the same I just go back to my salads for a few days. It is good to know that nothing is completely off limits. I just have to keep a good balance and weigh myself first thing in the morning. Thank you so much for all the information and encouragement you provide to so many! 😀

Feom the research I've done so far, and im certainly no expert, longer fasts are less about weight loss then the longevity/health benefits like autophagy and hormone reset. You were spot on by pointing out that just eating throughout your window won't make you lose weight. Calorie reduction is still necessary. I've been doing various lengths of fasts for a few months now (usually 16-18 with the occasional 24 or 36 hour) and I find that at 18 + hours I feel the best and have the most consistently high energy, mental clarity, etc. But the weight loss is still dependent on eating quality foods in a defict.

Newsflash: It's not the fasting in and of itself that causes the weight loss. It's the reduction of calories that you skipped while fasting. Yes fasting is good for your GI system but if you fast for 16 hours then gobble up 3000 calories in your eating window, you will not lose weight but continue to gain or stay the same depending on your size. It sucks but the only way to lose weight is to reduce calories. Believe me, I've tried every other possible "loop hole" to let me eat what I want and lose weight, Atkins, Keto, Intermittent Fasting, you name it. Nothing works except reduction of intake and it is nearly impossible to maintain long term without lots of exercise and/or a good appetite suppressor which the evil system that wants us all fat and diabetic has made impossible to get unless you are an already skinny school child (ADHD).
I remember the good old days (2004 and prior) when I could walk into CVS, Walgreens or Walmart and pick up a bottle of Metabolife 356 (Chinese herbal ephedra) that worked BETTER than Adderal. Smoother, longer lasting and no awful crash when it fizzled out. All day energy, euphoria and zero appetite. I kept my weight off for years using these whenever I would gain 10-15 lbs. Took them for just 2 to 4 weeks and got the weight right back off. They don't want us to be fit and healthy. We are Cash Cows for Big Pharma and the same evil psychopaths who own Big Pharma also own the food corporations and fill our food with toxic franken chemicals and gmos that make us hungry and fat all the time. They don't even use real sugar anymore but chemical crack called "High Fructose Corn Syrup" which causes diabetes. Contrary to their LIES it is NOT THE SAME AS CANE SUGAR!! And they know it.
People who go to other countries for vacations, such as France, say they eat rich pastries, pasta and all kind of DELICIOUS food and LOSE WEIGHT. When they come back to USA they gain it all back in 2 weeks eating less. Because they are fattening us up on purpose. Look at rock concert videos from the early 80s and on back...look at the crowd...NOBODY WAS FAT. NOBODY. I was there and I ate the same amount then that I eat now and I was skinny...5'8" 135lbs. It's the additives these evil psychos are putting in our food!

I just started this. I find that the easiest way to do this is to skip breakfast and to make it more effective I am cutting out junk food most of the time and drastically reducing sugar. The 8 hour window is to eat what you want but not whatever you want…you have to go for whole foods. I also prefer meals…lunch and dinner to snacking but that doesn’t mean I won’t have a healthy snack if I am really hungry. I think this is going to help me with my acid reflux. My doctors want me to wean myself off the medications. So losing weight should help. Also coffee gives me heartburn so I am switching to herbal teas to drink during fasting periods. I’m also pre-diabetic and don’t want diabetes.

I didn't have to do crazy exercise for an hour every night (but did do low impact or strength few days a week) I think it's a very overlooked way of doing things. No keto, but did lower carbs a bit.

I'm just now starting out after reading Kayla's book. I had already known about intermittent fasting, but her book made me think I could really do this. I definitely need to lose at least 100 lbs. I'm currently at 300 lbs and my first day on this was yesterday. My ultimate goal is 180 lbs, which was my weight when I left the US Army back in 1983. I'm an old fart, and have been living with a Santa Claus body for 20 years or so (my wife won't let me grow a beard, though). It's time to get back to "fighting weight." I'm starting out with 18:6, which might seem extreme to some people, but I've found that I actually enjoy feeling a bit hungry, and I almost never eat breakfast. It's the nighttime snacking that really kills me. Last week I made a nice ham sandwich and at it at around midnight. No more. My eating window is Noon to 6 pm. I'll see how this works, and then adjust as needed. Thanks to Kayla for her fine book!

Recently, I went on a long vacation, had pneumonia for 13 days, gained about 15 pounds being inactive and unfocused. At 236LBS I did 7 days while retaining about 15 miles a week of running and 3 days of 1-hour strength training sessions. I'm also a nurse and am cruising on my feet all day. Lost 10 pounds in the first 7 days. Going down to 185lbs and I want a sub 20min 5k. Currently a 22:30

You still have to reduce calories. If you go for 16-18 hours eating nothing, then eat all the calories that you were eating before (that got you to the point of overweight/obesity) in one or two meals within the "eating window" YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT. Ask me how I know this? The intermittent fasting only works if you eliminate the calories that you would have normally eaten at the time you were fasting. For example if you normally ate 800 calories for breakfast, you would need to eliminate those calories and not add them back on in your "eating window".....

I’ve been fasting for months. Haven’t lost weight. I think each person is different and I need to shorten my window to lose and possibly do keto. I just don’t see how a 16:8 would work when a 18:6 has not. I don’t eat processed food. I do a clean fast. So I obviously am more insulin resistant and require something different.
