Connery really had outstanding competition in this supporting category, but his performance was the highlight of The Untouchables. His work in Lumet's The Hill and Huston's The Man Who Would Be King was also award worthy; of course, his performances in the James Bond films, particularly From Russia With Love and Goldfinger were spectacular.
Denzel - “I’m from around the way, I’m leaving here with something” 😂😂😂
In an interview, Denzel said that earlier in the evening, Sean Connery received a standing ovation just because he was presenting an award. And at that moment, he knew that he wasn't going to win.
All the nominees in this cathegory that year were Oscar-winning performances, but they stood absolutely no chance against Sean's performance in The Untouchables. That performance was simply perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
R.I.P Sean Connery. UR good man. I Love The Rock. May the Peace be with u, always.
Rest in Peace Sean Connery. Thank you for everything.
I love when a movie with a great score wins an Oscar and they play the background suite music, like in this case.
Definitely a contender for the coolest onscreen actor of all-time - rest well Sean Connery
Friends... and few enemies... BOSS! ahaha
Morgan Freeman's reaction to the announcement is so adorable
I love it when he goes up and says "... A few enemies..." Lol the best!
1:02 The face of a man plotting to take home some food & flower arrangement after the show.
Not many men left in that business like Sean Connery. A class act for 60 years.
Connery did have a lot of enemies in the crowd, believe it or not.
It's amazing all the great films Sean made he had to wait that long to win an Oscar.
Rest in Peace Sir Sean. A true Scottish legend, you will forever be missed
Sean connery is always handsome❤
And the OSHCAR for LONGEST ENVELOPE OPENING EVER goes to...NICKY CAGE. Snap out of it!!
Rest in peace Sir Sean Connery. From Bond to Jimmy Malone to Henry Jones. Thank you for making such an impact on film. You talented Legend
it's a shame for us to lose a brilliant actor like Sean Connery (not like he died or anything, he's only retired)
I wonder how pissed off he still is for turning down LOTR?
John Jones
Probably not at all...
Steve Nugent Corret! Doing LOTR involved no acting, any serious actor with no financial needs like Connery would not lower himself to that level.
He said that he did not know anything about LOTR thats why he would not want to be a part of it.
DChief94 i think he kinda is but i am glad that connery turned down LOTR. Don't get me wrong he is one of my favorites but he is no gandalf. Ian mckellen fits so much better in the role than connery would have
Sean Connery has great acting in The Untouchables.
Sean Connery and Jack Nicholson sitting together? lol
Looks like it. Nobody rocks those shades like Jack does.
I want to sit next to them so bad....
Luke M me too
Hope they did movie together 😢
damn good eye lol.
Rest in peace good sir. Thank you for your memories and being a great actor and a great person!
been looking at these clips from 1959 onwards - Connery is the only one to have a standing ovation.
+Layton Jones - check out Anthony Hopkin's win!
al pacino as well!
Bertolucci got one from this ceremony when he won Best Director.
Check out Tom Hanks win in 1995.
Literally almost every best actor/actress gets a standing ovation...
Only Sir Sean could upstage Cher and her gorgeous iconic ensemble.
A well deserved standing ovation
Our first ever Bond has left this world, may his legacy lives on forever. RIP Legend ❤
R Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket deserved a nomination and win.
+Soren Saunders No, he was killed in that. I saw Gomer Pyle kill him. Can you receive an Oscar posthumously ??
Great character. I would tend they thought it he was too one dimensional.....Lou Gossit Jr in Officer and a Gentleman for example showed more range acting. If you want to state that Lee was a true drill instructor though, I agree but it's not about that.
trwent.....Connery's character was also killed, by Frank Nitti (which is total Hollywood BS).
trwent he wasn’t killed in real life dumbass his character was killed and yes actors have won posthumously like Peter Finch who won for best actor in 1977 for Network beat out Sylvester Stallone for Rocky. Finch died of a heart attack within months before awards ceremony. Heath Ledger won best supporting actor for his role posthumously as died in 2008 and his father received the award in 2009 at the oscars
trwent R Lee Emery has been many movies and commercials after a Full Metal Jacket like On Deadly Ground with Steven Seagal in 1994 as a bad guy and the thriller Seven with Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt as their boss
What a legend Sean was and still is
Some young people here will never understand. But there was a time, when Sean Connery was THE biggest star in the world. And perhaps remained so until he passed.
In the 80's😊
One of the greatest films of all time with one of the best performances of all time.
Mr. Bond!!
Rest in peace. Sean you were the voice of wisdom . Man . Awesome actors ..
Sean was making a Scottish joke, folks, about not giving the Oscar to his wife when he found out it was worth $15K. Scots are known for being notoriously tight fisted with a dollar.
With a "Dollar"? I think that's a "Pound"
@@johnthwaites5976 Well, Connery did use dollars in his speech, so I guess that's what CR was referring to. But I don't think the actual currency is the key to the joke.
@@BlueSaphire70 Scotsmen are not notoriously tight fisted with a dollar though. The English pound is the currency Scotsmen are notorious ly tight fisted with
@@johnthwaites5976 anything of monetary value
Really? Did he? You won't believe it, I figured that out by myself.
What a true gentleman. Love the way he spoke.
Denzel looks so Young and he was 33
Nicolas and sean then went on to act together in The Rock one of my fav movies!!! RIP Mr Connery!! Untouchables is a fav of mine as well
Sean Connery deserved his win, but Richard Dawson should have been nominated for The Running Man.
Chris Scanlan Too bad the movie sucked.
one of a kind, truly, honestly, sincerely and outright truthfully
I met Sean Connery once in a supermarket in Liverpool, he was a lovely guy we chatted for about 5mins and he asked me about the recipe I was carrying with me whilst getting my ingredients. Of course it wasn't THE Sean Connery just a guy with the same name. I don't think he won an Oscar but he now knows how to make my mother's spaghetti carbonara.
