  • In this episode we dispel common diamond and engagement ring myths. This was certainly our most technical and informative video yet as we really went deep into the different aspects of engagement ring shopping that end up being common pitfalls for many shoppers. A quick recap is here and our blog provides the full transcript www.laurenbjewelry.com/blog/t....
    Weight signifies how large the diamond will look- FALSE: It is only an indicator of the size
    Round diamond looks the largest- FALSE: elongated fancy shapes like oval and pear will provide more finger coverage
    SI2 is a "bad" clarity grade- FALSE: Engagement ring shoppers can find great value in this clarity range but tread lightly because there also some that you need to avoid completely.
    You have to get a matching band for your engagement ring FALSE': a lot of people prefer a mis-matched contrasting look either with different wedding band setting style or color metal
    A pave ring has to be delicate FALSE: pave is a technique for setting diamonds and does not directly relate to the size of the stones used.
    An engagement ring in its truest form has to have a diamond center-stone FALSE: Diamond alternative engagement rings like moissanites center-stone or color gem-stones are great options as well.
    There is such a thing as "Signature Ideal Cut" or "Super Ideal Cut" FALSE: This kind of grading system is fabricated by online retailers
    A cushion cut diamond, or any fancy shape, can have an excellent cut grade FALSE: Fancy cut shapes have too many variables at play to judge their cut solely based on a grading report. The diamond must be seen in person as well

    The radiant cut ring (SOR 15747) is very pretty, loved it with the thicker wedding band.

      I want to like a radiant but I can't get passed the crushed ice appearance of the diamond. Same with cushion cut diamonds but I do know there are some brilliant cut cushions out there. Wish radiant also had a brilliant cut for those of us that hate crushed ice.

    That’s why round stones is more expensive because of the sparkles and fire

    This is an excellent video, and thank you for showing a pear shape put correctly on the finger with the point facing the end of the finger, I so often see them the opposite and they look wrong to me.

    Yes, SOR 15747 looks great with the wedding band, elongated stone, no halo.
    Beautiful selection, the oval also looked good with smaller stone either side of main stone. How to choose from such tho' 15747 looks just right

    After seeing the amount of light leakage through the table of a typical GIA excellent cut, I wouldn't discredit the importance of a super ideal cut for round brilliants.

    • @karinachavez2425
      @karinachavez2425 3 роки тому

      That's my concern on a radiant shape 😒but that's my dream ring lol what is your opinion?

    • @fiddymil
      @fiddymil 3 роки тому

      @@karinachavez2425 to the best of my knowledge I think a radiant cut is also a fancy shaped diamond. In that case just look at numerous selections and pick the one you like most because most of the grading and light performance no longer applies and the diamond’s unique properties are not really utilised in this shape. Perhaps you might consider a moissanite or lab diamond in light of this to make the choice even more cost effective?

    • @usfanlovesminho5085
      @usfanlovesminho5085 10 місяців тому

      Cut does determine sparkle though. But light leakage can ruin it so just buy a diamond with Excellent cut grade with no leakage.

    Loving your videos they are so informational , I myself had a jeweler in the family up until last year he retired so I was able to get a beautiful rather large stone for my engagement ring but he taught me so much about the myths of diamonds and I have done so much research over atleast the past 5 years and I definitely know how to pick a beautiful diamond ,never sacrifice on the cut never go to shallow or to deep you can always play around with the color mine is in the near colorless range and when I look down at it from the top all I see is white sparkle I wanted a larger stone so I had to sacrifice in the color area but you would never know it , you guys are really amazing if I ever decide to add another type of ring later down the road I am contacting you guys ! I’ve seen things like “Astor Ideal” and you are so right it’s such lies !

    Thanks so much. I'm looking for an Engagement ring. I've been married before and for me am looking for an alternative than a mined. I like a larger about a 3 carat if a solitary stone if it has side stones surrounding. The center can be a 2 or 2.5. I want a stone that's sparkles every color of the rainbow. This marriage I feel, I, am a wiser shopper. I once had a 3-carat real,diamond. It was not the highest, level cut. However, since my husband was a person who was able to get the thing at a much better discount. This was over 30 years ago. I was young and not educated so, I did not have it insured. Well, it got stolen. He purchased the single stone .mThen we picked out what type of setting., I've done this 2/tines in my life and my 7 stone cluster on a wide band., was a long journey, due to we were very young and purchased 1/2 carats. So after 7 long years of purchasing sets of diamond earrings. Finally, after we had enough diamonds to create a 7 diamond cluster ring on a wide cigar type band. The basket was, white gold, then the band was 14kt yellow gold., I took it to a reputable jeweler which was Defeo & Company. They remade my ring over 3 different times because. I had this image in my head., They finally got it perfect. I'm received it on my 8 year Anniversary. I, love a ring that sits up with a higher profile., it was also stolen. I would love to find a jeweler who works with customers., I love Sapphires all colors yet until, I. Started to take course from GIA ecological course to become certified no was surprised that sapphires came in all different colors,yet due to health reason I had to quit. I love learning., I've had a Chathum created emerald with smaller pave diamonds on the side. I feel, in love with it yet it too was stolen. Then several years I was given a natural emerald with diamonds on each side its emerald cut.do love it was over 2,000 dollars due to his family had a Jewelry Store,so since he was family was family a 30% discount the 2ndnring was not as pretty as my created Chatham Emerald. Because As you know the natural Emerand has imperfections. Just like all mined. Stone. I've heard of your Company., I've been searching. I want a created Emerald or a substitute say Chrome dioxide with it created a diamond alternative for diamonds. In my mind I want it similar to the late Princess Dianas Sapphire, however, I'm a may baby and I love the greenness of an Emerald. My fiancee does not agree he is old school thinks it has to be all white stones I disagree since I will be wearing it not him. Thanks for your video. I enjoyed it very very much. Hopefully, I can get him to watch. I am older and I like to believe much wiser. I'm so glad that now all brides. Can have a nice ring. Due to technology. I could care less about it being dug out if the grown. Now everyone can enjoy a larger ring with so many options. Yet less money you can use for a nicer honeymoon or a down payment on a home. !I am honest if ask omg I live your diamond. I'm will tell the the truth. I am not ashamed to be wearing a created diamond.,,'Anotherbtjingni live I can get a bigger look for less. I'm sorry I've had some women only my rings until I tell, them its a created diamond or whichever the stone I'm wesringbatt the time. Iprefernall my fingsbto be made with Solid gold, silver, latelynivevbeen experimenting with email solid silver bonded to either 14 or 18 karats some brands hold up nicely., other brands duck because they do not have enough microns of solid fold and some use nickel and other stuff instead, of what they claim. I've had some antique jewley' that looks really good yet I have no clue of what its made from. I hate a question., I have a Sky blue topaz and surrounding the main stone are white topaz. Yet I can never seem to be able to get, the white topaz looking shiny the way it was when I received it. The ring is solid 14:kt solid gold, The,, center topaz looks great. However the smaller, ones just look dull and, frosted, not at all like, it, was when it arrived., it was, about $ 400 dollars. I've tried so many things., I would welcome any advice on how I can get the white topaz clean would be great. Thanks and keep. Making these awesome vidmkkkm oo

    Rounds do look bigger than cushions and square cuts, but yeah pears do look bigger than rounds.

    • @usfanlovesminho5085
      @usfanlovesminho5085 10 місяців тому

      Cushions carry most of their weight underneath and elongated diamonds carry their weight on the top therefore have a spread. But if you look and the top of a round and see the sides it carries it's weight evenly and looks like a Rock overall. Cushions are smaller on top and pears are almost flat on the bottom. Round is perfect top and bottom so I think it has an overall substantial look and it sparkles the most by far which makes it pop even more than the other shapes which is why it cost's the most.

      He's basically saying it's fine to buy a SI clarity if it is eye clean and you can save money and use it towards a larger stone. The problem is, it's very hard to find an Si eye clean diamond and I've never seen an eye clean SI2. I never buy less than a VS+.

    I would not mix colors on a wedding band/engagement ring because it makes the set look fake, but, I would have a different design.
