- Watch our latest episode which details the rise of moissanite as an engagement ring center-stone. There are comparisons of moissanite vs diamonds and we go into detail on some of our newest custom moissanite ring designs.
Moissanites are lab created gemstones made to mimic the physical and optical properties of diamonds; they are cut into all the popular shapes such as round, cushion cut, radiant etc. They are also quite durable which makes it suitable for everyday wear in an engagement ring.
A lot of people ask what is the main difference between a moissanite and a diamond and how can you tell the two apart? Moissanites are about 80-90% less expensive than diamonds which is a also the major draw for many engagement ring shoppers. As far as the differences, moissanites give off more fire and spectral colors as part of its sparkle. Watch this educational video to learn more and see some close up examples of moissanite vs diamond as well some of our most popular moissanite engagement ring designs.

I really like how beautiful moissanite is. I love that it throws rainbows like that. I can tell the difference between them and diamonds, but I honestly think I prefer the moissanite. Especially when you add in the price difference, I can get a nice ring and a better honeymoon with the savings.
boimackhead where did you get your moissanite?
I'll take a diamond any day.
seller? If you don't mind sharing but i have a feeling mossanite just may be more expensive now
boimackhead hey I just got one from etsy as well. Do you have a video you should make one. I love just watching them sparkle I am obsessed!!!
Absolutely. Its crazy how ridiculously expensive they are. I've been to tiffanies and cartier, vancleefs , so many..PRICES are crazy. A 0.90 carat was so small cost like $35, 000. Honestly make a person sick to realize how overly priced a tiny little rock is, cannot justify those prices NO matter how much I love diamond...im realizing over time, I just love sparkle...don't really care about diamonds, would still like one but not at those high-way robbery prices. really shameful. mossanite is gorgeous. Greatest thing I discovered too.
I think right next to each other, you can tell which is which, based on the sparkle. But by itself, it would be a very hard call.
yup yup
Idk man. I can spot it from a mile away. Also in videos and pictures. Diamons will let off a sparkle not so much a rainbow. Not hating but when people know their gems theyll spot it immediately
Follow The Grow true but a lot of people don’t know as much as u do. I have both a diamond and a moissanite and honestly I love them both but I have to say my moissanite sparkles way more than my diamond and gets more compliments
I have to say I can tell and it’s too rainbow for me in person
Damn. No pear cut that’s what I want to see
Buy a moissanite like I did but have it in a halo with diamonds and diamond accents in the ring. Wow! You get the best of both worlds.
❤
I'm so happy that I found out about moissanite! No more blood diamonds, still beautiful and flawless.
Everyone needs a friend that knows about diamonds . I like their honesty.
These are gorgeous. I was about to tell them all apart correctly, the moissanite is brighter and has more fire but the diamonds have more glitter or "crushed ice" sparkle. I think I do like the diamonds a little better (the glitter effect is really attractive) the fact that moissanite is much less expensive and most of all is produced ethically, would easily tip things in their favour.
Agreed, I find the ‘crushed ice’ effect more beautiful as well. The fire/rainbow effect is a little tacky to me.
I agree. Diamonds are more beautiful!!
The setting is different. The diamond ring has gems under the diamond, unlike the moissanite, giving it that crushed ice effect.
you are right, but at the same time, when you wear moissanite yo'll fall in love with the gem more and more everytime you experience how dazzling moissanite really it. Its stunning and costs enough too. moissanites are about $500 to $700 for solitaires (rounds) but when you buy fancy shapes they go up to like thousands.
@LikesandLoves Thanks for the reply. Yes, ive seen mossanites that are horrible like that. My moissanite really does look like a Diamond its incredible. The more I wear it the more I love it and it has the small tiny sparkles you're talking about, but its a moody gem. Depending on the lighting...but its so beautiful....that is too bad. Real diamonds are so expensive. But there is a jewelry in our town that sells exquisite diamonds for about $12,000.00. Thank you.
Thank you so much for taking the time to go through this in such detail. I've been struggling to find information about Moissanites. In fact, thanks to you I now know how to pronounce it properly. Hoping to make a trip up to NY in the next year to pick out a ring. Thanks again!
Radiant cut has been my absolute favorite forever!
YAY! i got them all!! the round was the hardest.
The cushion just blew mind. Lol
I got a moissanite engagement ring too! The middle is moissanite and the side is natural diamond. Best of both worlds! Couldn't be more happier, custom made, and I got mine from etsy! I'm also getting my wedding band from etsy too, same shop I'm getting my engagement ring from 😊😇
Which shop?
❤
I think we used to associate diamond as being 'forever', which makes it auspicious for marriages. Moissanite can really make it even more attractive in that not only it is a durable long term stone, it brings colourful sparks to the marriage. Wow.
We do, we do associate diamonds with the legend of everlasting commitment and all the original diamond legends stand for. Moissy can sure bring a lot of FAKE to a marriage 🤣 if I’d want something shiny, I’d buy a disco ball
Diamonds are not disco balls
@@MrsPaulaTorres The irony of a bleach blonde referring to anything else as "fake".
@@MrsPaulaTorres what is wrong with you? You think a stone means your marriage has fake in it? Moissonite is a stone, not a fake diamond. Moissonites also come from asteroids, space. Much cooler than in the ground. You’re allowed to have your opinion but genuinely nobody needs to hear your negativity
@@KaysoiFnSniperx You do know that moissanite is lab grown right. Any natural moissanite are tiny crystals used as side stones.
@@MrsPaulaTorres I'm not a fan of moissanite either, but they are lab grown and are not fake. I also like diamonds more.
That bezel setting took my breath away!
The new heart and arrow cut moissanite is stunning!
I got 100% on each guess. I have a round Moissanite and absolutely love it.
Thank you for watching!
Emerald cut and invisible gallery halo are stunning!
I was waiting for this video on Moissanites, forever!!...thank you sooooo much for the video
do you need moissanite?
Yocasta Pena Hay it's Gary's wife here I have a moissenite ring I love it I got it 8 years ago !! Hope this helps!!
I could pick out the diamond every time. Beautiful rings💞the rounds and cushions were very close!
So much beauty in one video!!!
Thank you so much!!! Very informative!!!
This has been a pleasure. Thank you for posting.
Great video! So educational I love your work :)
I love learning about gem stones. Got them all correct easily.
Radiant cut is truly radiant. My opinion, emerald cut is an easy give-away as well as oval cut. Been looking into moissanite for a while now and I think the safest bet is round cut. I’d love a radiant cut diamond one day, phenomenal. Thanks for your help :)
I have a moissanite engagement ring and I absolutely love it! So much prettier than diamonds!
❤️❤️❤️
Aleena Mathew hummmm it's nice but not prettier!
Amit Parekh It depends what your priorities are! We had a 2,000 dollar budget and with that I would have had a tiny little diamond whereas I prefer larger rings, so I got a moissy as well and saved 1,000 and that went towards my honey moon. I don’t think one is better than the other, because they’re not the same so they are both beautiful in their own way!
Lol the lies you tell.
So much prettier! What's the big deal about diamonds? The sparkle! And a diamond doesn't hold a match to a moissy.
Anyone who prefers diamonds is just a sucker to marketing... think for yourself!!!
I absolutely love my moissanite ring! We decided to go with a 3.5 ct pear shape, lab diamond halo and lab diamonds on the band. The contrast of the moissanite with the diamonds is absolutely stunning! I also filmed a YT video, if anyone is interested in viewing. Happy ring shopping!
I love my moissanite pinky ring and always get compliments on it...
Moissies are so gorgeous! I’m obsessed
Thank you for watching!
I got them all right!!! I feel quiet proud of myself 😁 I'm a true Lauren B follower, thanks for the video guys!
LOL the difference is obvious.
Gorgeously done!!!
I was able to tell the difference easily with each selection. 100% on my selections. love the Moissanite!
I guessed right each time too. I'm a diamond fan though.
no more blood diamond!!
i dont mind to wear lab diamond. now on i preferred moissanite or lab diamonds.
Victoria Lsaint oh please!!!!
Good for you! Anyone who prefers diamonds needs to learn to think for themselves.

7 out of 7! Can't miss the rainbow. Well produced.💎💎💎💎💎
Alison Klein i agree, it was pretty easy to pick
The cushion cut is stunning
The diamonds twinkle .., the Moissanite flashes
yes cheap flashes just like cubic zerconia , both double refractive and diamond is single refractive and have FIRE
Um so much misinformation in such a short post.
First of all, "flashes" are not something which can be assigned a monetary value such as "cheap". A well cut CZ does not look markedly different from a diamond, so if CZ has "cheap flashes", then so does diamond.
Second, CZ does not have birefringence (which you mistakenly call double refractive).
Third, although moissanite has birefringence, that is only along one optical axis, which when cut properly and viewed face up will be almost impossible to see from face down. The reason some diamond cuts don't work in moissanite is simply because some diamond cuts don't work on moissanite - just as some moissanite cuts don't work in diamond.
Fourth, although diamond is "singly refractive", its refractive index causes it to be less maximally brilliant than moissanite
Fifth, diamonds do have fire... but less than either CZ or Moissanite, because they have a lower dispersive index.
Moissanire has more brilliance and more fire than diamond.
CZ has less brilliance but more fire than diamond.
All three are gorgeous stones and cheapness is a subjective trait, mostly a result of individual bias.
Perfectly put!
@@jamesanagnos6123 zirconia doesn't look like a moissanite..
@@steeviem1835 and nether look like a diamond, and they both have double refraction, a diamond is single , how can they look like a diamond when the refractive index is so deferent lol are you stupid or what
You can immediately tell the difference if you know what to look for, but it’s still so beautiful! My engagement ring is masonite because I wanted to have a larger stone look but to keep the cost low
I agree. If a person knows what diamonds look like and what moissanite looks like, the difference is very obvious. They do not look alike at all.
Great video!
this is sooo helpful..
I guessed them all right! That would be a good alternative for people who are trying to save $$. They're just as beautiful. I could care less for diamonds. They're just rocks when you think about it.
Thank you, this helped alot.
Once you showed the first example it was easy to guess the rest ..totally different sparkle to my eyes. Both beautiful stones
I have never heard of Moissanite but from this video I would TOTALLY buy one. They are just as Gorg so I could care less & the prices you just can't complain about. My ring is diamonds but I'm looking to get another one because it's been 10 yrs but Moissanites can for sure be loved just as much. Thanks for this knowledge
You will save a ton of money if you go moissante. Cost's about 10% of a lab diamond.
Stunning - I am 100% doing moissanite when the time comes for me
Very informative, thank you.
I guessed right on all! Beautiful display. Thought her finger was gonna fall off on the princess cut...brrr 💍😂
I picked the moissanite each time because I listened to the tutorial before hand. I recognised the throwing of more rainbow colours than the diamond which appeared more white.
Diamonds sparkle gray and white while moissanite sparkle rainbow. Diamonds do reflect rainbow (on to) other surfaces but there is no rainbow in the diamond itself. CZ sparkles rainbow as well so moissanite always remind me of cz's.
I was spot on with which was diamond and which was moissanite. I just have a good eye for these sorts of things. Both are absolutely beautiful and definitely something to consider.
This was So informative! thank you so much! can't wait to book an appt here (coming for Canada) curious the models finger size....and would LOVE to see a moissanite in a 2ct and a act Oval cut equivalent with just plain bands! :) Thanks!!!
she is a 5 and thanks for watching!
Although I was able to recognize the diamond from the moissinite, it was not because one is more beautiful ...just throwing different colors. Each are gorgeous in their right.
The cut pattern is different. A brilliant cut diamond and a brilliant cut moissanite do not look the same.
Yay! I got every single comparison right!! I must have a trained eye 😜
I got each and every one right, like he said, it has reds, blues, greens and rainbows of color versus just a ‘glittery’ look of the diamond. My fiancé and I are getting moissanite because it’s cheaper, more brilliant, more fire, and conflict free. (And as Adam ruins Everything puts it, there’s no real reason for them to be that expensive, it’s a marketing ploy) I prefer all of those colors, and since I’m hella unique, I’m getting marquise cut, not a lot of people carry it
Michelle Keyes You won't regret getting a Moissanite. I have been married for 11 years and mine is still as gorgeous and as brilliant as the day my husband proposed. And 11 years ago, Moissanite was JUST getting its name out there so there weren't as many options as there are now.
The other bad thing about diamonds bought from a Jeweler is you never can sell them for what you paid, and a pawn shop would even give you a 10th of what you paid. So yea the better stone is the Moissanite stone.
Michelle Keyes you will not regret that decision at all 10 years later and mine are all still very sparkly.....it don't hold oils or scratch like the CZ and is very brilliant. Good luck you will love it for life.
how much will your ring cost?
Michelle Keyes hi dear. (I know this is so delayed) but I'm just curious where were you thinking to purchase your marquise moissy? I haven't been able to find a retailer for one. And it's my favorite cut
I guessed each ring right. They're all very beautiful but like one other comment stated they could be hard to tell apart if by themselves and not together.
My engagement ring is moissanite and it looks soooo gorgeous.
Michelle Yarbrough same girl:)
This is a great video. Thank you
It’s so pretty! I could def tell the difference though
Thank you for watching!😍
There is diamond lines that focus on the fire and hues, they up the price of diamond that much more.
Diamond shine bright and beautiful in the fancy lights, but not as spectacular in regular lighting.
I really want to see a moissanite in regular lighting.
Also, does the stone fog up like aquamarine and peach morganite?
I got them all right! It's very obvious, moissanite = 🔥
I love Moissanite, I quit buying diamonds at least five years ago and I haven't looked back. To me, they are very easy to spot,
and I'm the only one that knows the truth!
Wow i can't tell they are all pretty rings
Those rings are beautiful
You people know what you’re doing. Excellent video. Very informative. Beautiful merchandise. Lovely hand model. Accurate descriptions.
Thanks for watching!
It's really helpful that he says the price, because some of us have no idea how much we should be spending!
Yes! But we can customize the ring to the budget
I guessed the diamond ones all correct!
Thank you this was helpful
Now i learn to recognize them ..thxs a lot
I've guessed them all correct, but honestly the price difference and ethics involved makes it an easy decision on which ones to choose. I think the issues arrives when people try to resell since Moissanites don't resell well (I've heard), but honestly who's selling their wedding set?
taccora Most likely the mossys are not dug up humanely as well.
Bite Hunger Back moissanite isn't dug up. It's only grown in a lab. There is natural moissanite but it's rare and not used for jewelry
taccora Actually there are mined moissanites that are available. You can choose the color and clarity you want like a diamond. My friend got a real mossy that is about a karat and it was $800. But why get lab created moissanite? It's better to get a great quality cubic for a fraction of the price of a fake mossy.
Zirconia become cloudy, QUICKLY.
They don't sell mined mossy so im wondering how your friends got it...
Great educational and comparison video
Def gonna go here when Im ready to get engaged!
Thanks we look forward to hearing from you!
Diamond is ‘watery’ with mirror like darkness and white flashes. Moissanite is whiter, less depth with rainbow flashes. Both are gorgeous, I am getting a lavender sapphire ring though :)
They have a light blue color to them. So easy to tell. But beautiful.
For our 20th, I asked my husband for either a cushion or emerald/step cut. Love them!!! Beautiful settings. I also think the table and culet are much larger on a Moissanite than their diamond equivalent counterpart.
I like both the same. Depends on what your after a rainbow or glitter. Actually I still think I prefer the dimond, because rainbows just don't match my personalality. Not a rainbow type person. I like the beautiful frost glitter look. If my husband ever surprised me with a moissanite, ill definitely take it any day. Its still beautiful.
Beautiful rings by the way. Personally I’d just go with a smaller diamond. I wouldn’t go with a Moissanite just because I wanted a bigger ring or more expensive setting. I love diamonds and there is something about the way diamonds catch the light that is just beautiful and unique.
I have diamonds, but am a magpie and actually prefer the moissy sparkle
Thanks to Pricescope education I spotted the diamond and the moissanite, which makes me a difficult woman to please, love diamonds with "crushed" ice appearance and only cushions.
Love my moissanite-guessed them all correctly 🎉
BEAUTIFUL
I got every single guess correct, i just love diamonds to much to not know one when i see it but moissanite Is so pretty.
Got them all right….no mistakes ❤❤❤
I have a moissanite and I love it. I don’t think it means that you’re cheap it means that you have more important things to spend your money on. People don’t even realize you can have a 3 ct diamond ring and try to sell it and the only thing that matters is the weight of the gold in the ring. They don’t care about the diamond just the gold in the ring and that’s what you would be selling. 🤷🏾♀️
Moisanite is already go to wear , money is for other investments to make more money
That how they nick the diamonds off people who don't know any better. You might as well have went for a Cz.
@@Odo-so8pj Moissanite and CZ aren’t even in the same league. 🤣
Not even “cheap” ...affordable. I have a diamond as my engagement ring and am going for Moissanite for my anniversary. The difference in cost is my daughters yearly private school tuition, but that’s not why I am going with it. In every instance with the volume off my husband and I preferred Moissanite over the diamond, except the emerald.
@@Extraordinaryee Why not buy CZ. If its just the cost. Moissanite is over priced.
The left one is the moissanite in the oval halo ring. The moissanite has more color flashes, but it looks totally believable.Very classy and high end.
Omg I got them all right and tbh I'd prefer the moissanite to diamond s except in the case of the emerald cut I thought the moissanite there was very green /blue tinged whereas the diamond was very clear!
Both are beautiful stones! With the oval shape you can always tell if it’s a diamond as you will see a bow tie effect across the stone which is standard for oval diamonds. I couldn’t tell with the other shapes which was diamond or moissanite. 😊

I got them all right. Beautiful rings. I just started following your Instagram! Thanks for the great video :-)
Thank you for watching and follow us on Instagram!💍💖
I have two natural diamonds in my toi et moi ring, even though moissanites are beautiful, I feel like the inherent value is just different. I've always wanted my ring to be a modern heirloom with a diamond as apposed to a diamond alternative. I also wanted my ring to have warm stones that give off an old-money vibe (my diamonds are so warm the jeweler said he would classify them as faint champagne, all the moissanites I've seen are near colorless). I'm happy there are alternatives for those who don't feel right spending a lot of money on natural diamonds, though. They are similar unless you are trained to the eye!
I am definitely a moissanite lover. 😍
It's easy to pick out a moissy next to a diamond, alone it looks super sparkly. I have a diamond but I were to get a moissy I would get a round.
Naturally - I agree it is very easy to tell the difference to me also - for me, the rule I heard YEARRRRRSSSS ago, was the "fireworks" being too much/ gives it away as not a real diamond (contrary to what so many people might assume or thing), & it still seems to be the same case, this has just reminded me - but, they are still lovely in their own right.
I don't have any diamonds, right now, I'm kind of feeling gem stones if I'm honest.
But the fact of the matter is, I haven't really cared for quite some time now, but.. particularly after this reminder, if someone came up to me and tried to say to me that a ring such as this morganite was real, I would absolutely just as I had been able to tell in the past, that it is not a real diamond. To my eye it's the purple flecks that give it away. Real diamonds do not have that.
Anyway. I think that people should get and like what they enjoy.
Got them all right..yay!
I have a few pieces and they are beautiful never take them off sleep bath there just as beautiful as yrs ago id rather have Mossanite light green and champagne are gorgeous ❤❤❤
I feel like the difference really does come down to the cut and setting. Simpler and slimmer settings I think favor moissanite due to its ability to stand out against your hand, whereas the more complex/intricate shape rings that gives diamonds something to contrast against (halos for example) really make the diamond pop. The more uniform the shape the harder it is for me to tell the difference.
Comes down to the cut and color of the sparkle and the different type of sparkle.
I got them all correct and I always do. If you'll notice, the most obvious dispersion of light both on the Moissanite and on the diamond is the blue color. You will always see the Moissanite disperse considerably more blue than the diamond. I understand Moissanite dispersion is higher than diamond so ALL colors are dispersed greater in the Moissanite but the blue is the most obvious color you can spot quickly than other more pastel colors.
It’s all in the lighting. Moissanites are low density lighting, or what I call “evening light” stones. So far I’ve guested everyone correct! It’s my favorite stone!!!
Both to different stones each with their own respect.
What style is the round moissanite? Round Brilliant, Forever one or Hearts and Arrows?
Forever One
It’s 2019 and I’m watching this! Ayye!! 🙌🏼Haha👏🏼 I guessed them all too, barely noticeable but they have their subtle differences one glitters other has fireworks & both are absolutely stunning no doubt :)
I got all correct!🙌🏻
Side by side comparisons can definitely make it easy for people to pick up the differences. Separately I think the average eye (non professional ) would have a much harder time being able to tell a diamond from a Moissanite . My wedding rings were done custom from my husbands uncle who is a jeweler so he taught me a lot about diamonds ,he only dealt with diamonds back then and has since retired ,I think it’s great that you offer alternative, less costly gems to your customers yet you still set them in these absolutely beautiful settings , the setting makes the ring , sure I’ve seen other companies doing it for less , but I am a true believer in you get what you pay for ! Your designs are some of the best I’ve seen ,Diamond ,Moissanite or any other gem ,my eyes are drawn to your settings ! This is a great video ! Keep Em coming
Thank you so much! That is the idea, that everyone can pick what center works for their budget the best
Not true. I have yet to fail pegging a moissanite engagement ring that someone I meet is wearing. A comparison is not needed unless a person knows nothing about either stone.
last of my favorite💖💖💖
Mossanite has more fire than a diamond. I know everyone wants a diamond, but most can’t tell the difference and would you have the embarrassment of asking is that really a diamond. Personally I prefer the mossanite, but make sure you get the certificate of a genuine mossanite that should come with it.
I could see some of the oval diamonds had a bow tie in them where as the moissanite didn’t and had more of a rainbow fire
Omg! I can totally tell the difference! I thought there would be minimal difference
How many carats is the oval diamond in minute 5 of the video & what’s the cost of a ring like that? Also what mm is the moissanite you have at 5 minutes that you compare the diamond with and how much does that one cost?
