Not that it matters but at 21:12 you took only 1 light blue and not all of them (2), which means you would've overflown and had to discard it, losing you a point
Rahdo I watched 3 videos before this one and thank you! You did make a few mistakes but you made it more clear then any of the other videos I saw and I am On my way now to purchase this game. Please keep making tutorials on board games.
I have watched 5 or 6 of these videos for learning how to play Azul and this is by far the best one! A little crazy at the end, but super helpful- thank you for putting it together!
10:53 After the yellow tiles are taken, the remaining light blue tile should go in the center. Rahdo caught the mistake at 14:13. BTW, it's easy to tell if something's wrong - if there aren't 4 tiles on a coaster, than it probably means tiles were taken and the remaining tiles need to be discarded into the center.
He always makes horrible moves for Jen on all of his videos. I think he must do it because she always beats him when they play? In actuality, I think he does it to show the biggest variety of rules/moves etc in the play throughs. Gives me anxiety too though lol!
He screwed Jenn at 21:25 by putting the Blue up top. The tile would have scored just 1 less if he completed the second row as opposed to the first and having the openness of the board would have helped on the next round. It also would have set her up for the bottom row Red for a column bonus. Since Red came out heavy the next turn (20/20 hindsight) it would have been huge. But the column opportunity Lost was my pet peeve
Thanks for posting this video. We tried playing this game tonight and had a hard time making sense of the rules. There are a few goofs here but the over all rule set is much clearer.
I just ordered this game and I couldn't wait for it to come so I was watching several runthrough videos of it! As others have pointed it out there were a few goofs and actually Jen might of been in the lead but I think that your explanation and back story on the game make me just more excited and enthusiastic about the game! Now I really can't wait...
Rahdo, I love how you tell a story when explaining the game. Is the bit about the top tiles being higher up and needing less detail and lower down more detail in the rulebook, or do you just feel that it is implied this is what is happening? Whatever answer I find it really helpful hearing the thematic explanations.
hehe, i just made it up as i like to explain rules thematically, even if the original rulebook doesn't. i also made up the notions of "reject tiles" in the "street" as a way to describe how the drafting works :)
I like it. I tend to do this explaining the reasoning behind what you are doing. I wish designers/publishers put more theme into games. I dislike for example; my worker collects 'a die', I then build a building with said die. WHAT ARE THE DICE, WHAT DO THEY MEAN!! haha
i know. it's always surprising to me when designers try to teach me their game at a convention, and they start talking about this mechanism and that mechanism, and i always have to stop them and ask "what does this die represent in the world". i often have to ask that question several times...
5:37 Therefore, it is to her advantage to play chicken and wait to pick up black tiles. She should start picking up another color and see if she can get all 3 on her next turn.
Regarding your comment at 1:18, the tile patterns do serve a purpose. For certain forms of color confusion, it can be difficult to distinguish the blue tiles from the green, and the red tiles from either the green or the orange. The patterns make it clear which tiles match.
Hi Rahdo, I really like your run throughs! But I notice that you keep making more and more rules goofs. Maybe it doesn't hurt to slow down a little and take a little more time for filming?
i make lots of goofs on all my videos. this one just looks like more than normal because the regular and extended are both in one vid. if you watch all my vids through the full extended, you'll see as the filming goes on, more and more goofs are made. but as always, they're just dumb little "forgot to score a point" or "accidentally took 2 turns in a row" type things which don't impact the sole function of the video: demonstrating what the game feels like to play
To honestly disagree with you, I always enjoy his enthusiasm for these games, and excitement can cause you to speed up and make mistakes. I usually don't even watch with the subtitles on because I just want to know how the game plays, not the exact rules. The winner and loser of this game doesn't matter. :)
It's sort of a community problem. Imagine chess, poker or billiards being taught to you by someone who had played just a few times! We barely have experts in most modern games, and most of the experts aren't skilled communicators, and just about all of the skilled communicators are novices. This overall situation isn't one man's fault.
it was already noted in the Klingon subtitles, like Richard asked at the start of the video, please turn them ON to see on screen when he makes a goof like that one
This was well done. Well explained. It's not an easy game to explain in just a few minutes. Thank you for this! I just found this through Facebook Marketplace for $20. Looking forward to playing this for the first time soon!
Howdy. Thanks for the video. I did play the game recently but was confused about some of the rules. Anyway, you did some mistakes. 11:00 you need to put the light blue in the street. 21:15 you need to take both blues 28:30 there is an even number of colors and she is playing, she is not the one that is going to take the 6 reds 28:50 you forgot to take the 1 tile 29:30 those yellow tiles should complete the 4th row. You just screwed Jen. 29:40 one of the reds would go into the 4th row. 30:15 Jens actually gets 6 points. 30:30 you cannot move the red tile to the right because the row is incomplete I hope Jen is not upset :)
ALL of those goofs were already noted (and some more that you didn't catch! Like Richard has been saying for more than 1 year at the start of all of his videos (including this one), Please Turn ON the Klingon Subtitles, that way you'll know when he made a Goof, like that one you reported that was already noted there!!
Thank you for this run through. I have watched a couple other reviews early on, and wondered why anyone even likes this game. After watching you, now I SEE why.
BTW, I had just played Azul: Summer Pavillion and I came to watch this one, because I am curious about how the original Azul plays - and what the differences are! Next, I will check out Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra.
if it was at 21:14 it was already noted in the Klingon Subtitles... Like Richard asked at the start of the video (and for all the videos on this channel) Please (always) Turn ON the Klingon Subtitles so you see on screen when he makes a goof like that one. Thanks
loved the way you confused yourself. But explained the gameplay well...I think I will buy it..It's surprising though that there is no digital version of this
if you understood all other scoring he did up to this point you should also understand this one... he scored it just like he scored all other tiles, the tile that was placed counts for the row and the column, so it counts twice, so a total of 4 points
the piece itself counts twice if there's another piece up(or down) and another Left (or right)... so the piece is counted on the Row and on the column, so that's 6 points
Hey Rhado you messed up at 21:14 EITHER a) Pick all tiles of the same color from any one Factory display and then move the remaining tiles from this Factory display to the center of the table. OR b) Pick all tiles of the same color from the center of the table. If you are the first player in this round to pick tiles from the center of the table, also take the starting player marker and place it onto the leftmost free space of your floor line.
You don't need to read the other comments... You just have to turn on the subtitles for the video and choose the Klingon channel and every time Richard messes up a subtitle appears on the video explaining what he did wrong
FYI i'm not trying to teach you how to play... i'm trying to let others know if it's worth purchasing if they're on the fence. My only goal is to capture the feel of the game, which i think this video does :)
@@rahdo i think you did quite well actually. In fact, you did so well in teaching me how to play that I became annoyed when you made mistakes. I do appreciate the effort and will definitely be buying this game. Sorry if my comment came off as mean.
Have you tried out ''Beasty Bar''? I think you and Jen would love it... it's funny and quick and can be played in a restaurant even... it works well with 2-4. I am surprised you haven't reviewed it yet. Expansion is great too...
Thanks for the walk through! Can see why the combative part will turn you and Jen away from it. Any chance this gets nominated for the Spiel next year in your eyes?
when i'm not keeping 2 separate players in my head, and focusing on filming, and trying to demonstrate as much as possible in as short a time as possible, i'm generally a bit less prone to error :)
Lol I came here for a walkthrough. Game arrives tonight. And laughing about how you screwed your virtual gf in the first minute with taking 2 blacks when there is never the possibily of her getting 5. How.... lol.
Not that it matters but at 21:12 you took only 1 light blue and not all of them (2), which means you would've overflown and had to discard it, losing you a point
21:14 Both blues had to be taken.
And at 29:40 one red could have gone to the fourth row where there were three reds already, right?
Chri Scho yes - particularly because Richard goes on to add a tile to the room from that row even though it wasn't full...
noted both goofs... thanks
Maybe his wife can sit behind the camera and point out the mistakes since 2 pairs of eyes is better than 1
Haha. Paulo does a great job cacthing many of these, Houjix.
Rahdo I watched 3 videos before this one and thank you! You did make a few mistakes but you made it more clear then any of the other videos I saw and I am On my way now to purchase this game. Please keep making tutorials on board games.
I've watched a lot of explainers of this game and yours was the only one that I really understood. Thanks!
This is the most entertaining tutorial about this game I've encountered thus far,
Many thanks !!
that was very helpful, I don’t care about “goofs” b/c it is good learning to spot them
I have watched 5 or 6 of these videos for learning how to play Azul and this is by far the best one! A little crazy at the end, but super helpful- thank you for putting it together!
super helpful, a little crazy at the end. that's a fair approximation of me i'd say! :)
Thank you so much! I really needed to watch someone play through while explaining their reasoning in order to learn this game!
Subtitles were great. So savage. Rahdo another great play through. Thank you!
He makes such inefficient moves for Jen here. It's giving me such anxiety watching this. Obviously I need to buy this game.
you're hooked! :)
He always makes horrible moves for Jen on all of his videos. I think he must do it because she always beats him when they play? In actuality, I think he does it to show the biggest variety of rules/moves etc in the play throughs. Gives me anxiety too though lol!
John I agree. He's having to play with his strategy then try to show us a different strategy that he may not even agree with.
Same. My husband was yelling at the tv.
"Can I do this in such a way, that it screws Jen over?"🤣🤣🤣
Wow that was chaotic at the end :) Nice run through. You missed one mistake: at 17:00 you gave Jen 3 points - it should have been 4.
noted... thank you
Yes i was wondering wtf
He screwed Jenn at 21:25 by putting the Blue up top. G
65Superhawk in reality she shouldn't have had that chance because that tile should have been taken by the previous player (rahdo).
Just discovered this game, so I'm glad to find a video to teach me how to play it -- thanks!
Thanks for posting this video. We tried playing this game tonight and had a hard time making sense of the rules. There are a few goofs here but the over all rule set is much clearer.
Dude the game is so mindblowingly designed
accutally jen won this game !! you cheated jen so many times
R
thank you so much. i can follow your instruction better than from other video. just starting to play with my kids now.
7:15 "Jen doesn't feel so bad about going out on the street".....!!! 😄
Even with some of the errors, which I mark down to over-enthusiasm, this was the best explainer I’ve seen for this game. Well done!

Its very gauche to go out into the street and pick up tiles.
That certainly made me chuckle!
hehe, i just made it up as i like to explain rules thematically, even if the original rulebook doesn't. i also made up the notions of "reject tiles" in the "street" as a way to describe how the drafting works :)

At 21:15, were you allowed to take just one blue? I thought you’re supposed to take all of the same color.
it was already noted in the Klingon subtitles, like Richard asked at the start of the video, please turn them ON to see on screen when he makes a goof like that one

Has to be one of Rhados runthroughs with the most misstakes in point counting :D
Since you cannot even spell " mistake" you cannot expect your opinion to be valid.
Yeah this was a rough one.
Thank you for this run through. I have watched a couple other reviews early on, and wondered why anyone even likes this game. After watching you, now I SEE why.
Yeah same
is that an error in the rules at 21:25?
like what?
I know the game now, great, can't wait to play it
BTW, I had just played Azul: Summer Pavillion and I came to watch this one, because I am curious about how the original Azul plays - and what the differences are! Next, I will check out Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra.
Holy smokes, I know this isn't a rules video (I watch with Klingon subtitles), but that was super easy to learn!
Are the tiles that are removed added back to the bag or removed from the game totally?
you put all used tiles back in the bag once the bag is empty
Do you not have to take all of the same from the middle? You had one player take one blue from the middle when there were two in there.
if it was at 21:14 it was already noted in the Klingon Subtitles... Like Richard asked at the start of the video (and for all the videos on this channel) Please (always) Turn ON the Klingon Subtitles so you see on screen when he makes a goof like that one. Thanks
6:41 Or you can take all of the orange tiles and fill up a line of 3 :-
Played it yesterday. Loved it!
loved the way you confused yourself. But explained the gameplay well...I think I will buy it..It's surprising though that there is no digital version of this
Rich is doing everything he can to stop Jen from winning..... and showing signs of mental breakdown now... haha
par for the course :)
At 21:16, how come you took only one blue from the street when there are two?
Klingon subtitles
30:33: Cannot consider the red line as finished, since it misses 1 tile.
noted... thanks
@23:03 shouldn't that have only been 3 points as there were only 2 tiles adjacent?
if you understood all other scoring he did up to this point you should also understand this one... he scored it just like he scored all other tiles, the tile that was placed counts for the row and the column, so it counts twice, so a total of 4 points
30:12 gives Jen 4 points. Should be 6?
It was already noted... Like Rahdo says at the start of the video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks
is it not 5 points? 1 up, 1 left, the piece itself, and 2 down?
the piece itself counts twice if there's another piece up(or down) and another Left (or right)... so the piece is counted on the Row and on the column, so that's 6 points
Hey Rhado you messed up at 21:14
EITHER
a) Pick all tiles of the same color from any one Factory display
and then move the remaining tiles from this Factory display
to the center of the table.
OR
b) Pick all tiles of the same color from the center of the table.
If you are the first player in this round to pick tiles from the
center of the table, also take the starting player marker and
place it onto the leftmost free space of your floor line.
You should have picked up both blues placing one the other crashes to the floor
It was already noted... Like Rahdo says at the start of the 1st video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks :)
I replied before i read the other comments, my apologies
You don't need to read the other comments... You just have to turn on the subtitles for the video and choose the Klingon channel and every time Richard messes up a subtitle appears on the video explaining what he did wrong
Thanx i totally thought you were messing with me with turn on Klingon
When Rahdo runs through A Feast for Odin he doesn't make this many mistakes lol. Great video though.
You taught me how to play in this video and i'm already annoyed at the mistakes you are making
FYI i'm not trying to teach you how to play... i'm trying to let others know if it's worth purchasing if they're on the fence. My only goal is to capture the feel of the game, which i think this video does :)

Need to take all of one color in the street, not one for you one for Jen. xD
Helpful even though there were a ton of mistakes
Have you tried out ''Beasty Bar''? I think you and Jen would love it... it's funny and quick and can be played in a restaurant even... it works well with 2-4. I am surprised you haven't reviewed it yet. Expansion is great too...
Tutorial on how to cheat at Azul
Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeed Alhambra!!!! 😍😍😍😍 Even Marrakech is more beautiful but LOVE them both so much
Thanks for the walk through! Can see why the combative part will turn you and Jen away from it.
Any chance this gets nominated for the Spiel next year in your eyes?
hmm, i could see that happening :)
Jen must have to keep you from cheating a LOT when you actually play games together.
when i'm not keeping 2 separate players in my head, and focusing on filming, and trying to demonstrate as much as possible in as short a time as possible, i'm generally a bit less prone to error :)
Lol I came here for a walkthrough. Game arrives tonight. And laughing about how you screwed your virtual gf in the first minute with taking 2 blacks when there is never the possibily of her getting 5. How.... lol.
Do you always play your wife's turns so ineptly? Is it that she is A terrible player, or your inherent bias to make sure you win?
not sure if serious
