I so appreciate you taking the time to play the entire game and share your thinking for each player. Very, very helpful! This was the best explanation out of four different videos I watched on UA-cam.
Great video Jon. I totally get how to play now and will be up and running immediately upon receiving my copy! Appreciate the hard work you put into these playthroughs!
Perfect, this video with a few quick google searches really cleared this all up for me. Can't wait to play it tonight with my wife after work, thank you!
Cool playthrough. Have bought a copy of Azul and it's a cool game to play in 2 to 4 players. Easy to explain and teach everyone within 10 minutes. And games are finished within 30 to 50 minutes. Very unique and has an interesting feel to it too.
Definitely well explained and excellent playthrough with solid 3 player example and strategy to be keep in my mind. Definitely going to get my board. Thanks
This was an extremely helpful video and made me completely understand the game! Thank you so much! Finally decided to get the game because of this vid.
Thank you, past Jon, I enjoyed the playthrough. I know Azul is popular and well thought of but I honestly have never looked into it before now. I wouldn't mind playing - it looks good - but I don't feel like I need to have it.
Haven't seen the end yet and have never played, but MAN was that a mistake not to take the 3 blues @36:55. Neither of the other players had a use for the 2 yellows you also wanted. I'm calling it: you'll lose to the right hand player. (Fantastic job as always on the runthrough. Miles beyond anyone else out there, and that's not just casual millennial hyperbole.) EDIT: And you did. :D
ElectricalGuava thanks for mentioning the vita mixup. Also, yes it looks like I messed that up there, me taking red or blue should have still pushed the yellow tiles in but fortunately it had no effect on the gameplay. When I get home from work I'll put a correction in, thanks for catching this!
Before playing but after watching all the azul reviews it felt like only half a game. So I played it yesterday, it felt like premature ejaculation, it was over before the board filled halfway, and immediately. Did not feel satisfying, and did not produce any lasting intention of wanting to play ever again. The tiles look nice on camera but actually feel okayish.. Sagrada is so much more satisfying, in every respect I care to consider. In other words: this video was great Jon, it reflects accurately how the game plays!
The tiles remind me of Patchwork, but the game is completely different. Patchwork is 2-player only, so Azul is a nice alternative if there are more people.
Two questions: 1.) what happens when you have an empty space on the top floor line (left side) but the corresponding wall already has that color tile (and that’s your only option to pick up?)Does it fall to the floor and counts as negative points? 2.) what if that top row was full? Do I just skip picking up the tile or do I have to pick it up and lose no points?
If you don't have a legal place to put a tile you just took then it does fall on the floor and breaks. I'm not 100% sure that answers both of your questions though.
Great instructions, definitely helped. One question. Your first move with the three yellow tiles. Why can’t you put one in first row and two in the second row? You said the only options were one in top and lose the other two to the floor or use three in third row.
I don't know of a solo variant sorry. I have a general policy of not making two videos of the same game, there are so many other games to cover and not enough time to do it all unfortunately.
Great vid! I would like to see a run through with joker tiles. They are currently not available from the manufacturer and cost as much as the base game alone on eBay. I'm wondering if they are worth the excessive cost!?
Question: what happens if you fill up the bottom row of negative tiles? Like, if you were forced to pick up a bunch of tiles from the junk pile? How would you score it then?
You made an error on the first round: player #2 on the far right, you took away his 2 star tiles at the end although that color tile was not yet completed on the 3rd row - oops.
It's effectively impossible for that to happen mostly due to the end game trigger going off of any player finishing one horizontal line. I think this better than getting close to finishing the grid considering you are building on the same tile pattern each game. WHen you only use some, it means each game a different cluster will form based on your decisions and will help one game feel differentiated from previous ones.
Yeah, completing a colour is worth 10 to completing a vertical's 7, but the points earned while completing a vertical could easily be worth three times more! Thanks for the vids |:)
Jesse Haulk When did you notice them cheating? I thought I hurt gen actually by accidentally discarding some teals from their board that they later had to regrab

This seems like it will probably start getting very "mathy/min-maxi" the later rounds, couting over and over your different options, and the other players!

That was really helpful. Hearing each player's thought process was super useful.
One of the best playthroughs I've seen of yours so far... And definitely sold me on the game!
Ricky Eads Agreed! This sold me on the game.
Fantastic walkthrough! I’ve not even finished it yet and I’m already excited to play it! Thank you for the help!
I watched this video to understand scoring as I was playing it solo and got confused on scoring. This cleared up everything thank you so much.

That's so great to hear, I hope you enjoy the game :)
Watched so many reviews of this game, and just couldn't see the appeal. Seeing the game actually played out has sold me, great video!
I just played the game for the first time and after watching this video realized we didn't do it right. Thanks Jon!
I love that you talk through each player's strategy. Subscribed !
Great explanation of the game! Hate it when people skip important FAQ's
Thank you so much for this! Just bought the game and was really worried until I watched this! Can’t wait to play now!!
Great video! I appreciated all the commentary on the various options for each player.
Best explanation of this game. It all makes sense now!
Thanks! This tells you everything you need to know to play, and teach others to play the game.

Im digging your style. I bought this game because of this video. Subbed and Liked....keep up the great work.
48:00 - You can't take the single red without shoving the factory in to the centre either. ua-cam.com/video/HgOwmcOkpJc/v-deo.htmlm3s
Ay. Just found your channel. These videos are my new favorite way to learn games. Super awesome work!
Awesome to hear, thanks :)
Thank you so much for your detailed video. Just played the game with my bf and it went well!
Awesome!
YES! So excited to play this later this year
Haven't seen the end yet and have never played, but MAN was that a mistake not to take the 3 blues @36:55. Neither of the other players had a use for the 2 yellows you also wanted. In retrospect I certainly see your point, too bad I can't always see these things while recording :)
This was very helpful. Great explanation.
This was great. Thank you!
Great instructions, thanks!
I’ve definitely got to add this game to my collection.
Great video,Jon! It's really helpful to understand Azul!! Thanks. I'm gonna get this game right now~^^
Thank you for this!
Awesome video. Glad you got to beat you and you. 😵💫
At 48:32 you only had three tiles on that factory instead of four. I had to do a quick instant replay to see what you did! lol
You really help me to understand this game. Tnks!
48:10 is there a tile mix up? Also probably should update the video description (it says Viral Playthrough)
This is one I really want to try! So many good games this year though! :D
Thank you! Very Helpful
3:00 game start
This was very helpful, thank you.
Great video!!! Thank you !

At 13.58 time he takes 3 decorated blue tile off he board. In error while clearing his board . Even though the run was not complete .

I love your video!!! Quick question…at 32:54 why couldn’t the player put two teal tiles in the 4th row and the other two in the bottom row?
Figured it out!!
A mistake at 48:15.
How that 10 points count, end of the game? Can same 5 tiles count it many times? Thank you.
Great instructions, definitely helped. One question. Your first move with the three yellow tiles. Why can’t you put one in first row and two in the second row? You said the only options were one in top and lose the other two to the floor or use three in third row.
Unfortunately, it's been too long since I played this game to remember the rules enough to answer your question. Sorry about that!
this is super helpful!
Excellent video! I definitely want this game. Do you by chance have access to rules for a solo variant, and if so would you be able to record this?
I don't know of a solo variant sorry. I have a general policy of not making two videos of the same game, there are so many other games to cover and not enough time to do it all unfortunately.
Great vid! I would like to see a run through with joker tiles. They are currently not available from the manufacturer and cost as much as the base game alone on eBay. I'm wondering if they are worth the excessive cost!?
I haven't played with them, but I can't help but feel they would make the game looser and therefore less engaging.
Good point, thanks Jon!

You made an error on the first round: player #2 on the far right, you took away his 2 star tiles at the end although that color tile was not yet completed on the 3rd row - oops.
Why didn't the second black tile go to the 3rd row? at 37:47
You only ever add tiles to a single row, and any excess fall onto the floor.
Thank you.
Doesn't look like anyone noticed but the right board lost it's teal unused tiles in the third row.
Yep I noticed.
Great video! Subscribing!
So it looks very unlikely you'll fill in the entire 5x5 grid by the end of the game? That makes me sad for some reason lol
I wonder which one s better. This one or pavilion?
I found the downtime in Pavillion (at 4 players) to be a dealbreaker, so I'd still prefer this one.
Yeah, completing a colour is worth 10 to completing a vertical's 7, but the points earned while completing a vertical could easily be worth three times more! Thanks for the vids |:)
Right hand player had to cheat to win.
Jesse Haulk When did you notice them cheating? I thought I hurt gen actually by accidentally discarding some teals from their board that they later had to regrab
Haha, yeah I was just making a joke on that mistake. :-p
Really nice review :D
What happens to the sound?
+E a Tua Vez What kind of sound issue did you have?
Right player too strong. Played with handicap and still won.

38:25 - you said taking Red would score you 1 point, but it would actually score you 2 points :)
This seems like it will probably start getting very "mathy/min-maxi" the later rounds, couting over and over your different options, and the other players!
Am i the only one that assigned personalities to each of the 3 players in this play through? im glad the one on the left lost. Didnt really like him.
I wonder which one s better. This one or pavilion?
