Okay this is bizarre. I was just looking for a 7 wonders runthrough and looked earlier today on your channel but you didn't have one. And now you do! Crazy!
We're a little late to the 7 Wonders party, but started playing it recently. Played for the 5th or 6th time last night & hope to throw in Leaders tonight. BTW my wife & I love playing with 2 players, so there are some of us out here who agree with you on that! Haven't played Duel, but suspect it would be too mean for us to enjoy.
I love the two player version of this. I have Duel and this gets played just as much and a two player game. I can't believe so many "reviewers" just write it off as a "weird tacked on variant". It was negatively received they changed the player count on the second edition. Ridiculous.
yup, 7 wonders used to be in my top10 games of all time BECAUSE of the 2p variant. when it was officially removed in the reprint, my ranking for the game dropped quite a bit :(
I have enjoyed this game. It doesn't scratch my empire building itch like something like Civilization or Clash of Cultures would, but it's pretty good and is quite fast. This video cut out before the end of the runthrough. I hope you have it in backup, because otherwise to see the whole thing I need to watch the static cam.
YEEEEEEEEY, finally!!! I was thinking for a long while about buying this, but somehow was a bit unsure. Lately I was very much considering it, but now comes your helpful runthrough to the rescueeee! Also, Jen's first leader is pronounced something like Hutch-ep-soot :P
Jen's first round leader does not give a discount on buying resources from her neighbors. Instead, once per round per neighbor bought from, she will get a refund of one gold from the bank. The Clandestine Docks also give you a discount on only one resource a turn. Also, it's Alexandria not Alexander :)
right, i'm pretty sure I never used the discounts more than once per turn? also, did I misunderstand that leader then? what you're saying sounds the same... you get a 1gold discount. but I guess the rub is you have to have the 2 gold to pay, but only have to pay one of it, effectively?
***** Yeah, you never used the dock more than once a turn but you made it sound like Jen could buy from Alexandria for free no matter how many resources she wanted, which is not the case. The leader's ability is only valid for one resource per player a turn. so if you buy 3 resources from the left and one from the right, without any other discounts, you would pay six to the left and two to the right and then get a 'rebate' from the bank of two, one for each player you with which you traded.
***** The important different with that leader if that Jen will get 1 gold from the bank the first time she buys a resource. So it ends up being a net 1 coin discount for her, but the person she buys the resource from still gets the full payment.
@Rahdo get back to me on this cause I need an explanation on some of the leaders for example , Aristotle, Tomyris, Xenophon, and Nero. My sister and her fiance are really confused in playing these 4 leader cards. So for example lets say my sister plays Aristotle; completes a two sets of science cards. There should be 2 gears, 2 compasses, 2 stone slabs. So for a set that would make 7 points for one set and 7 points for the other. Plus my sister gets an additional 6 because she completed 2 sets due to Aristotle's ability so (2x3=6) in which 14+6 = 20. But she gets an additional of 12 points for having a combination of 32 science points at the very end. In which I was trying to explain that Aristotle is perhaps the best powerful card for having science. Calculation of Aristotle helps the green cards once the game is in final calculations. Now moving on to Tomyris. This I am going to decide to play during the Leader phase before Phase 3. So by playing this card all it does is that it gives -1 battle point to the person to your left and right. So I am thinking that is the play and its only done once but it has to be done right then and there. So theoretically its not that powerful of a card. For Xenophon, I believe that the game play of this card is that once this is played. Each time the player of that card has played a yellow card from his or her hand that player wins gold. So if the player plays that leader in the beginning of Phase 2 any yellow cards that were played by that player in phase 1 has no effect upon Xenophon since Xenophon has been played in Phase 2. Now Nero, is exactly the same like Xenophon except in battle points claimed at the end of each phase during battle calculations. So If I won one battle point I get claim gold for each battle that I have won.
hey there, sorry i can't help out here, but i haven't played this for years, so i'm a bit rusty. but if you post your questions here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/92539/7-wonders-leaders/forums/66 i'm confident you'll get good answers! :)
Major history fail to have Hagia Sophia cathedral with minarets on the Justinian card. Minarets are an Islamic feature that was added to the cathedral after the fall of Constantinople at the hands of the Ottoman Turks... about 1000 years after Justinian built it.
this video is the 1st edition. but they do have the expansion for 2nd edition, with same name. so just get the new edition (2nd edition). it is the same gameplay overall btw.
around 15:34...Alexandria cannot buy the clay from you since it's on your wonder board. You cannot buy resources from people's yellow cards or their wonder board...only from silver and brown cards
mtgrocks04 yes it can... like you said, you can buy resources from Brown and Grey Cards and the Resource printed on the wonder board is effectively like a card of the respective resource color, in this case it's clay and it's a Brown "card"
mtgrocks04 Before I replied to you I went to check the rules... you can buy resource from your neighbor that is printed on his board, that's why I said what I said... But just to be clear, it's on Page 4 of the Rules under "Commerce": "The resources a player can buy from their neighboring cities are: • the resources initially produced by the city (as indicated on the board) • the resources from its brown cards (raw materials) • the resources from its gray cards (manufactured goods)" (this is a copy paste from the rules!)
yeah sorry i've only done it in this 'lots of stuff' format. if i could go back in time, i wouldn't have combined them all into one. sorry about this :(
Josh Parks wow, this is really weird! the video has half disappeared, even though it was all there earlier in the day! i'll look into it, but in the meantime, i guess you can watch the static cam version!!! very strange :(
Two Geeks and a Game no game night for us. i live on a very small island in the mediterranean called Gozo, and Jen and I are the only boardgamers that I know of here. So it's just us. 7 wonders is one of my fav games of all time. TTA is very cool, but we found it to be way too long for our tastes...
***** There's a great module at www.boardgaming-online.com/ that makes TTA a much better game. It takes out all the micro managing of little bits. You can also play a turn at a time and spread the game out over a few weeks. It's a lot of fun that way too.
Okay this is bizarre. I was just looking for a 7 wonders runthrough and looked earlier today on your channel but you didn't have one. And now you do! Crazy!
Just got both expansions thanks to you and I LOVE them!!! 7 Wonders is one of my favorite games and these 2 expansions are definitely worth it.
Thanks for this video. (BTW, Hatshepsut was a woman--queen pharaoh ;)
Thanks for the video, I just bought 7 wonders, going to try and play 2 player variant over the weekend.

I love how you keep calling Textiles "Carpet".

What camera model you are using to shoot....
+Bollywood News Villa it's a Sony PJ650
+rahdo oh wait, that's what i use these days. this video was done with a Panasonic TM90 :)
How many black and purple cards do you add to each age with 2 players? That's what i was looking for.
Great vidéo :)
Hatshepsut was a queen, not a king. Or rather, she was a female pharaoh.
Can i ask you could i play this expansion with the first 7 wonders or only with the second edition? Thank you 🙏
this video is the 1st edition. but they do have the expansion for 2nd edition, with same name. so just get the new edition (2nd edition). it is the same gameplay overall btw.
I'm up to 31 Wonder Boards so far :) There are soooo many unofficial ones
around 15:34...Alexandria cannot buy the clay from you since it's on your wonder board.
Paulo Renato No. It's right in the rules, you cannot buy resources off of the wonder boards...only cards that have been built.
mtgrocks04 Before I replied to you I went to check the rules... you can buy resource from your neighbor that is printed on his board, that's why I said what I said...
But just to be clear, it's on Page 4 of the Rules under "Commerce":

• the resources initially produced by the city (as indicated on the board)
• the resources from its brown cards (raw materials)
• the resources from its gray cards (manufactured goods)"
(this is a copy paste from the rules!)
When he was trying to pick his first card all I could hear was "Inconthievable!!"
Is this till today a favorite with the expansions?
it a fave even without any expansions :)
Hey! I thought you had a run through of JUST 7 wonders with no expansions. Am I recalling this incorrectly? Just looking for the basics! Thanks
yeah sorry i've only done it in this 'lots of stuff' format. if i could go back in time, i wouldn't have combined them all into one. sorry about this :(
I'm partial to the What's Up Dock (Harry Dresden book series and Bugs Bunny reference).
Demon Reach should be in 7 Wonders...someone needs to make a Dresden Files fan expansion :)
did something happen to the video, I'm only seeing 13 minutes and the static cam version is 22 minutes
Same here
Josh Parks wow, this is really weird! the video has half disappeared, even though it was all there earlier in the day!
i'll look into it, but in the meantime, i guess you can watch the static cam version!!!
very strange :(
okay seems fixed now!
Great job as always. Completely off topic, but just curious, what are your favorite movies?
boardgamegeek.com/article/14748262#14748262 :)
Fun game. Do you prefer this or Through the Ages more? Your friends must love having you around on games night.
Two Geeks and a Game no game night for us. i live on a very small island in the mediterranean called Gozo, and Jen and I are the only boardgamers that I know of here. This game is awsome, short, easy to learn and still challenging.
+rahdo May I ask why you live in Gozo? That's awesome! PS New to your vids, but great run throughs!
we moved to malta for a job i got, and once that was over, we decided to stay because of the crazy low cost of living on gozo :)
11:46 you say "8 instead of 7" and you meant "7 instead of 8". Just a small one.
note added :)
Oh and btw, Leonidas is pronounced "Lee ON i-duhs" not "Lee oh NY duhs."
