    It'd be cheaper if you don't have to pay for Ferrari badge. Can't they just make a wheel without Ferrari license?

    Great Review! As you may know, Mr. Basher is working on an adapter for connecting the Fanatec pedals sets with the TX wheel. That will bring the console racing to a whole new level! Hopefully you can get a hold of it and do a review. Also I hope that Thomas is going to come up with a new wheel for the Xbox One some time in the next 10 years...

    That brushless motor is probably why it is performing so well in comparison to the T500 and other wheels in its price range. Brushless motors are AMAZING in comparison to some of the old Mabuchi 540-550 motors like in most sim racing wheels on the market.

    Thanks for this review. I have become an avid fan of Forza 5 (got xbox1 3 months back), still playing on pad and felt its time to progress. Was half considering the cheap non FFeedback version but this video has totally sold me on the TX! If my budget stretched further I would consider the wheel and pedal upgrades you suggest (or even the mad catz wheel instead) but for now this should suffice :D Also planning on getting the playseat challenge following your review, seems perfect for me! Limited room space (and ocd girlfriend with limited patience for clutter!)
    You're coverage of Horizon 2 is also the reason I decided to get it at launch, should be real fun and something else to use my wheel for! I may get into PC sims at some stage but only have a dated laptop for now so no go :'(
    I'll stop rambling but to finish just wanedt to say you guys do a really great job! Really enjoy these videos and you are very genuine, informative and clearly love what your doing, so many tryhards and elitists in gaming "media" these days. Going to check the forums also but just wanted to say thanks. so... THANKS :)

    Half the weight is a pro. Less work on the ffb motors and much more speed I bet. The ffb shouldn’t fade as easy and the base should last much longer. Light is good when it comes to a rim. Other than looks and pkasticky, the rim is a def pro. 👍🏼

    I totally agree that thrustmaster should sell the base separately so I don't have to have two wheels and two pedal sets. I could just have the t3pa, th8a, challenge wheel, and of course, the base. We should file formal requests to make this happen.

    Wow, one of the few positive reviews of this wheel. I've seen a lot of people with a broken Thrustmaster TX online, maybe because it was just the first batch?
    Anyway, the Wheel itself and the pedals really are not good enough. The main unit with the FFB seems nice, but how much better is it really compared to a T500RS? Probably not THAT much of a difference to replace it. If I want a real upgrade I'll change my T500RS with an Accuforce Wheel later, although that would of course be in another price category.
    If you have an Xbone, well there is not much of a choice.

    • @Kill0rbAg
      @Kill0rbAg 10 років тому

      The TX doesn't have an all around better ffb than the T500rs.
      The wheel is smoother to turn and has similar detail in its ffb but that's about it. Everything else from reaction time with heavier rims to ffb strenght is better on the T500. I really don't get why Darin isn't even mentioning the extreme lack of force and speed compared to the T500rs Feedback but instead praising it as "strong"....
      I would wait for Fanatecs new product or the Accuforce if its price isn't what I think it will be (over 1000).
      I would currently rate the mass market wheels as following regarding wheel quality:
      1) Fanatec CSW, by far the smoothest and with the F1 Rim quickest to react. Feels absolutely elegant and "real" (compared to its competition in the sub-1000 bucks range.) Feedback is extremely strong, inaudible without fan.
      Best detail in FFB with F1 or modded lighter rims.
      Best build quality.
      Reliability issues seem to be resolved since 2013.
      Only 2 Rims and its high price even after all this time and with new competition incomming makes it a little risky though and it might lose in Rank pretty soon. Fanatec definitely has to do something.
      2) T500rs: Smooth but definitely not as smooth as the CSW. Audible but still a far cry from the terrible saws from old days (G27 etc, even GT3 RS was much noisier). Fastest FFB by far in that price range. Very Quick to react. Extremely strong FFB. Very detailed in FFB. Slightly more toy like feel though regarding build quality and overall FFB but it's not a 200-300$ difference to the csw as the price tag might suggests. (FFB)
      3)TX: Smoother than T500rs, in fact the second smoothest after the CSW, horrible stock rim. ( I dislike the addon rims from the T500rs for lacking quality already but this is FAR worse, at least the T500 rims feel like solid products), far slower in ffb which destroys it for me in terms of being the t500's successor. Catching the car and drifting is still possible but neither comparable to the t500 nor the CSW. FFB about 30% stronger than the CSR and 40% less than the t500rs. About the same details in FFB than the t500rs though they seem a little cleaner probably due to its slightly smoother feel.
      4) CSR, GT3 RS V2, GT2
      5)G27
      ...

    Lol this video turned my Xbox One on @ 6:44. I had to rewind and check it, but yup happens every time. Very good review btw, I've been waiting for a solid review of this wheel since I just can't drive with a pad no matter how good it is. It's not a perfect situation to have to buy a good set of pedals, but much better than just a pad.
    I've been trying to get a setup for both pc & X1, but man it's taking work so early on the systems lifetime.

    Can someone help me. I've never played pc games before but decided to buy dirt 3 for it. Had it on 360 and I missed it.. It was a pain in the ass to install. Pretty much took me all day to find out how to install it. I plugged in my Thrustmaster TX wheel, didn't work, did some googling, installed all of the firmware and what not, still not working. I'm at like level 98 out of 100 frustration level. I didn't have to work today so I thought Id play dirt since it got here today from amazon. Guess not.

    Unfortunately my thrustmaster tx wheel broke on first use, it updated to the .45 firmware ok went through its automatic calibration ok, then first use with forza on the second bend made a clicking sound then a grinding noise and died. I was offered a replacement or a refund but with its plastic feel and apperance and it only lasting for literally 30 secs i opted for a refund i lost faith, im now awaiting the release of the madcatz pro wheel due out at the end of feb. I was totally gutted and your review shows the fun i could of had if it had worked, but from my experience and a couple of others online i have concerns on the thrustmaster tx build quality.

    The cons aren’t really cons to me, although ofcourse the plastic wheel doesn’t sound like fun I still prefer the style over the other rims. The pedals would be a down side but I don’t want the clutch with it when using the flippers on the wheel.
    Maybe at some point I would buy a shifter and pedals with a clutch to add onto the set

  • @vivos71
    @vivos71 10 років тому

    If I had the money, for PC I would go with this base, the Ferrari GT-E rim, Clubsport Elite pedals with the inversion and DSD Tilton pedals, and a DSD shifter (maybe a Fanatec SQ) and some sort of button box setup. I would like to see more wheels like this that are between the CSR and T500RS level now that the CSR elite wheel is discontinued, but as a full Wheel/pedal/shifter combo for $500. Logy G29 might be an answer if they make it.

    Can you confirm if this wheel has had any of the problems that are widely reported from it? Lots of bad reviews on Amazon saying it has stopped working.

    • @MidmaCM
      @MidmaCM 9 років тому

      +Robert Bilodeau I just got it, I absolutely Love it. Although the Wheel it comes with is pretty bad. But just buy a GTE/F1 wheel addon and you'll have an amazing setup. I personally don't bother getting a 3 pedal with clutch addon. Because I enjoy F1 cars, and F1 cars in real life have an automatic clutch.
      I've heard the motor itself though, just the force feedback part is the most realistic feeling of any wheel so far. So that's what your paying for. Ive used the logitech g27 before. It's nice but the force feedback on the TX Italia is just so much better. It's amazing.
      At the end of the day though, All those faulty ones with issues were reported a long time ago. People Care alot more about reporting a bad experience than they care about reporting a good one. Not to mention all the 1 star reviews just for getting a DOA. That's just unfair. Also, the customer support has always been great with thrustmaster, Don't believe those people claiming it's shit.

    I am thinking about buying this wheel but I have seen numerous reviews of this week burning out after just a month. How often have you heard this on your forums and what do you think? I know there have been many others who have had great luck with the wheel with tons of hours of game time but since you run high end simulator setups and use them all the time what is your overall opinion and what have you seen the community's opinion to be on the reliability of the wheel? I have also seen videos over mods for the wheel to place bigger fans on the wheel to keep it cool. Is overheating an issue?

    So, in other words, take pedals from some other set, get a new wheel and it's OK? Should've do the review with what you get in the box and that's it imo. If you fix the negatives with other gear it'll skew your overall feel about it and give it a better score?

      13:35 "If I was to rate it as a package, I'd porpably give the whole package an eight" 8/10 is kind of lot if you have to change 2/3 of the components to be somewhat satisfied? You mention that the pedals do take it down in the score, but don't you think that had you used the pedals that came with it would've left you with worse impression and therefore less positive review, that's all

Belt driven pretty much sold me. Outside of the pedals the only thing I didnt like about my DFGT is the gearing. From what I've read on the iracing forums, this wheel should have about 30 to 40% less powerful FFB than the T500. According to your review, you didn't notice any lack of power? Or did you just crank the ingame FFB up? I'm really interested in this wheel as a current Clubsport owner, although I don't wanna lose any of the force the CSW provides.

      @seb-kun 10 років тому

      Dominik Batz The TX is physically less powefull that the T500 I don't see how you could overpass hardware with software :D

    • @dominikbatz4420
      @dominikbatz4420 10 років тому

      You're right, however, I'm basically using 15 degrees of FFB in iracing with the CSW; everything above that is just too powerful for me. So if you crank this up to just below the clipping line with the TX, could it give you similar forces as the CSW or the T500?

    • @seb-kun
      @seb-kun 10 років тому +1

      Dominik Batz I don't have iRacing anymore,I remember iRacing ahs been always I nightmare to really know if FFB is clipping. I don't know how much less the TX is compare to T500. But adding clipping is always bad, clipping is that make FFB feel bad in sims. I have a custom wheel 14Nm ( T500 is 5Nm in comparison ), so I can't advice you to increase clipping has it always result in worse FFB feeling.

    Mine wouldn't stop spinning in a 360 degrees motion when I was playing forza :(, and I and I had to replace it. Also, the start stop button kept on coming off and I eventually had to superglue it. I would not recommend it.

    You are saying that the FFB is worse on PC?
    How is that even possible.. Maybe you have the FFB sett stronger on console or something.
    I dont believe it is made worse for PC.

      Nvm, you later said that the FFB is stronger on PC.
      You must have ment that Forza has the best support for the FFB in the TX wheel.

    The only reason I dont like playing sims on consoles is because there is a lot of input lag. I dont know if its like that on all games but at least thats what I have experienced when I went to Currys PC world and tried their PS4 and Xbox One X simulators.

    At approximately $399USD and a rim which I'd ultimately have to change out due to "toy-like, plasticy" feel, I don't see how this wheel alone warrants a 9.
    I could understand...maybe a 7.5 or 8.
    The review seems way to generous.
    I considered buying this set based on the initial specs (brushless motors, dual belt drive, changeable rim etc...).
    I actually wound up redirected here while looking for more information about reliability having read reports about high failure rates on previous models.
    This would never be a good deal for me unless I could buy the base and then individual pieces.
    Thanks.

    maybe if u disposable it u would know what is the difference , and i strongly recommend any wheel review to have disassembly, even the top cover removed will be enuf to see what is going on in there ,whats changed ... like it if u think the same so that we can get disposable reviews, not just words and video that dont tell much, just subjective thoughts , picture of insides ,that's as objective as it can be , and some of us can see and decide for what wheel to go for just by seeing the picture of insides , or a video that would be even better

    I'd consider the lack of a power brick a con rather than a pro... at least with an external brick it's easier to fix / replace if it goes bad. If it's internal... not so much.

  • @7MBoosted

    Has anyone on the XBOne tried attaching the T500 peripherals to the TX1? If Thrustmaster was trying to cut costs they would have the peripherals interact with the wheel the same way Fanatec's does. The pedals on those wheels communicate to the base and then the base to the console. So you'd think that if the T500 wheel works with the TX1 on the PC, it should work on the XBOne.

  • @dustinr16

    Just spent $400 CND on one of these. Got a brand new TX with the newest firmware installed (v47). First use on Forza 5 and it lasted 30 seconds before freezing up and making an electrical fire smell. Wheel was dead and wouldn't work on either PC or Xbox One. Obviously they haven't fixed any of the reliability issues. Just skim the Forza 5 forums if you don't believe me.
    Sure wish the TX came with the GTE rim or the generic round rim like the new T300 RS. Xbox users drew the short straw (plastic toy rim and only 900 degrees of rotation).
    Don't buy a TX. Waste of money until Thrustmaster can fix all the problems.

    Thanks for this video guys, just a stellar review as always. I'm just about ready to pick one of these up.... but...
    I have seen a bunch of negative reviews on Amazon, mostly knocking the wheels build quality and overall durability.
    While I usually attribute those kind of scathing reviews to people who just don't know how to take care of their stuff, but I wanted to ask if you guys have had any issues with yours?
    Thanks!

      Ken Rodbender We haven't.. Our TX wheels are still going strong. We use them frequently too. Seems there was an early batch of wheels that had issues but Thrustmaster has made some adjustments and or fine tuned the production to alleviate the problems.

    Hey Darin, before I proceed, excellent review. Despite some really negative reviews on Amazon, I am so desperate to play Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2 "properly" that I will take the chance (and I've never owned a racing wheel, should be fun!). My question is, it's been almost a year since the Xbox One console came out, is there a new and improved product coming out in the foreseeable future that I should wait for? or should I just hurry up and buy this. Because of the price, I'm only giving one shot at this. Thank you so much.

    Just had a look for a wheel for the first time in a long time, (current production only) but man now the £200 G27 seems to be the third cheapest thing available from the main manufacturers, only the very basic, plasticy, non-feedback £80 Thrustmaster 458 and the £130 Logitech Driving Force GT which is again quite plasticy (even the shifters are buttons on the back of the wheel rather then paddles) are cheaper, then you get to things like this TX458 which is £350 for the basic base/wheel/pedal.. crazy

    Hey Darin (or someone else?), I'm not sure if you are allowed to speak on the subject, but have you guys had any servo failures with the TX? I have read MANY forums and there really seems to be a ton of failures. It almost seems as bad as the old Xbox 360 RRoD, haha. I just grabbed one and updated the firmware and the fan seems to be staying on fairly steady after racing for a while but throttles back down on menus. I am hoping maybe they bumped up the cooling to keep them from failing? I really don't want to keep this if it will fail in the near (or distant) future. Thanks in advance!
