I have one. It is fine, unless you drop it. It is probably the weakest screen of any phone I have ever had. It is easy to replace the screen, and after going through two replacement screens, I decided I just needed to get a different phone. Great concept, but poor execution. The "Panda Glass" is no where near as durable as Gorilla Glass, despite what the manufacturers say.
That does sound concerning. This is another thing that needs to be adressed with future phones of the company.
A gel case would definitely help. The phone is so chunky that the extra thickness will mostly go unnoticed, but you would have the cover protruding on the edges for cases where the phone falls flat on the floor.
A transparent one would mostly keep the light on the back visible (until it starts yellowing and getting dirty)
I wouldn't be bothered as replacement parts might be less ass the whole is coming under or near 200 not at all a concern
I think this is a you problem. How often do you wanna drop your phone?
I drop the Jelly Star from time to time (a lot of times if you count them all) and have never broken a screen... same for the Jelly 2, Atom and Jelly Pro.
However, the phone is always in a protective case (the clear one that came with the phone) and has a screen protector on it.
The phone lives in a belt pouch when it's not being used.
The belt pouch keeps it secure when it's not being used... and is probably responsible for minimising the number of drops.
I've owned a lot of Unihertz phones over a lot of years and never once broken a screen.
They all get a lot of use... so it's not like they're carefully protected.
🙂
This is the best phone ever - I feel like I got my life back, bigger phones it's too damn easy to waste time on them!
I think people give this phone too much flak. "It doesn't have 5g, the camera sucks, it's gimmicky, etc."
You want a premium phone? Get a flagship. This thing knows exactly what it's trying to be. For $200, it's insane the amount of features that are included, especially the headphone jack, ir blaster and the notification LED. I don't think anyone buying this should expect the camera to be great, which, you can get a gcam apk to significantly improve the quality.
Overall, I would highly recommend it. It's probably my favorite phone I've ever owned (coming from Pixel devices) and has helped to significantly reduce screentime. It's nice having a phone that can be utilized as more of a tool than the ultra-premium entertainment slabs almost everyone carries now.
Oh, and I also love the LEDs on the back :)
I would gladly pay more for a more premium version of a Jelly smartphone.
A Jelly Plus or something would be pretty cool, maybe a 4-inch screen instead of a 3.@@reviewrattlesnake
I loved hearing this. I currently am using a Pixel 5, but I'm interested in going more minimal and reducing screen time, as you mentioned. Does this phone help with that even after a longer time using it? I'm worried that I'll just get used to the small screen and go back to wasting time as usual. LOL.
@@Funmom.reviews Yes and no. It makes it harder to use/doom scroll, but once you get used to it, you find yourself wasting time on it. Personally, I just don't have social media or distracting apps installed, and it helps a lot.
I swapped from a Samsung a53 to this little beauty.
I hope a new version will have an oled screen and slightly bigger battery, along with stereo speakers as you mentioned. I find when you take photos in RAW and process the the camera is more than useable.
I agree. If it had close to a flagship phone camera quality and better speakers, I would go get one. Since it doesn't, you're just left with the novelty of having a small phone.
nice review! planning to get one as im ditching my samsung. this will help me a lot in college.
Glad I could help!
I own a Samsung Fold 4 and am considering buying one of these as a replacement daily driver. I like the small and simple design. It does what I would want a smart phone to do and can prevent me from spending too much time on it
I'm always on the lookout for small form factor phones such as the Jelly line from Unihertz, but also on the fence since there are quite a number of adjustments and compromises back then. Now? I may be more inclined to buy. Don't even know Unihertz is still kicking as well. And they even have a 3.5 port! I wonder how the DAC sounds.
Unihertz has no signs of stopping they have grown a lot in the last year even with their keyboard phones an the jelly series
I've had My jelly star for 6 month now and I love the phone. It fits All pockets. It can do All you want like a normal smartphone. I love that im not walking around starring on My screen. I use it for spotify, electronic payments, emails. You tube works great on the small screen.
Did you do that Nikke Goddess of Victory test?!
another factor that not many might need but those that do will appreciate is that, it is extremely good with glucose sensors unlike its predecessor.
as a Type 1 diabetic who's into running, this thing is amazing, fits into your tiny key pocket in your running shorts.
i kindly like this phone !! hope its officially on indonesian market
I like your intro, it's clever and cute
Thank you!
If unihertz made a phone that was Iphone 5 sized, it would be viable for alot of people. The Iphone5 is the narrowest screen that I know of which was viable for the public. No one ever complained about it's screen size until the 6 came out.
THIS !!!
Wish I could buy 😢, my current phone is retiring now.
As someone with an iPhone 13 mini this phone seems really appealing cuz even my mini feels too large lol, I am used to the iPhone 4.
This phone size is almost exactly the size of Palm Pre phone that came out over 10 years ago.
Gracias por el video, me encanta este teléfono y para escribir con ese teclado mejor utilizaría el dictado por voz. Saludos
I know it is not the point. But I wish it was just a WEE bit bigger. I think the bulbous phone is more just a result of a budget constraint from Unihertz but I like it. Modern phones are so thin there is nothing really to hold onto. The depth of this phone unintentionally addresses that it is too small to actually fill your hand. Even like 10mm wider would go a long way. I don't want the phone to balloon in size to modern smart phones or like some of their other phones I just would want to actually comfortably hold the thing.
I get what you mean. Here is hoping for Jelly Star 2?
Its already pretty good. But they could make different sizes. I recommend that size. You can still see everything. Watching videos and gaming is not worth it though. Keyboard usage is not that bad, if you get used to it
I just ordered one for using while trail running, because I think it is ridiculous to carry a huge phone with all my banking and working apps. This one will be much easier to carry in a hydration vest and as I understand, very capable of running navigation and safety apps. Given its shape, I can even see myself using it as a backup flashlight in case my headlamp runs out of battery. And well, as you mention in the video, it is worth trying for the price. I will put it in a Ziplock bag to protect it from rain and sweat and even if I lose it in the mud it won't be so expensive to replace as my other phone. It is also nice that it's got OTG Did you mention that?
Why not have a look at the Atom line from Unihertz ? I think it will suit your needs more. I have the smallest Atom and i love it sooo much
My iPhone 14 Pro is far too bulky for running, even when wearing a pack it’s still noticeable in whichever pocket it’s stashed in. Considering this Jelly Star as my out and about phone and just using the iPhone at home.
@@paulakalosttime So far so good for me. I know there are some "rugged" models, but the Jelly Star is so small that I have carried it just in a zippered pocket in my shorts. I also find that the shape makes it easy to hold, so there is a lower risk of dropping it. I would even just carry it in my hand for runs up to 5k.
@@Abalone6 I think the Jelly Star is a little smaller and lighter. I understand that the Atom is "rugged" but I haven't had issues with durability so far. Also, I find the back LEDs on the Jelly Star actually useful. And... well, I think it's cute.
Go for the Sony Xperia 5 II with an android 14 custom rom for the best bang for buck small phone ! Although this one is way more fun
Does it do well with gps?
under screen fp sensors are overhyped, side mounted is better
I wish to see this small phone without touch buttons so that you can increase just *a little bit* the screen size
How is battery life with GPS on? I intend to use it as a tracker.
Battery life is not the best. I dont think it will last more than a day or two, with your intentions. As you might also need mobile data/wifi with it
@@maremike2691 thanks!
I think it will be helpful combinate with a Smart watch
Can i set this up on straight talk?
I've used this phone for about 6 months I think. Personally, it's all I ever wanted. Perfect size, good enough sound, responsive, etc. All except the camera quality - it's fine, but not really worth relying on.
@gmack. On a regular-sized smartphone I mostly used Instagram. On the Jelly it works, but is kind of too small to be enjoyable. So I'd say yes, because it's not as fun to use.
the camera is the deal breaker sadly
the camera quality is so so important for me and i bet so many others. that s why we keep waiting on a small flagship to come or just buy the old 13 mini from apple from so many years back. they are very good and with a very good camera also.
can u share the wallpaper lol
This smartphone can take scroll shots?
Kinda. Its limited to 2-3 times the height of the actual screen, as far sa I noticed right.
Is there a hotspot?
Yes there is!
Does it run in 5g? Or only 4g?
Only 4G
@@reviewrattlesnake4g lte to be exact
can it read qr codes?
yes
does it do android auto?
Yes!
Is it 5G compatible?
No, unfortunately.
Is it ESIM compatible?
Not to my knowledge
Fingerprint sensor is very bad
