    What a discovery..so UNEXPECTD
    Solo Sailing the Cyclades
    @Sailing Adventures with Grandad
    "The cure for boredom is curiosity.
    There is no cure for curiosity" Dorothy Parker
    My solo sailing of the Cyclades is born of my curiosity to learn every day, see something new, feel something different, discover more about myself and the world. Im never bored.
    All these Cyclades have things in common but are also completely unique. In this chapter I share my joy of running across another X-Yacht 442, a sister ship to Vayu. Im so excited and I feel this tremendous joy of sharing. Then Sifnos is quiet, romantic, a beautiful Island where I want to return but next time with my loving partner. The sail from Sifnos to Antiparos is exhilarating and even a bit frightening and makes me reflect on the risks of sailing solo. Im enjoying life so much I think it would be a shame to loose if to some imprudent accident. And then instead of Antiparos Im drawn by the historic archeological site on Despotikos, so that becomes my project and my joy for this episode. Sharing with you is challenging my abilities as a narrator, editor and photographer but its a challenge that fits perfectly into my desire to always learn something new, about the world or myself.
    Im thinking two things here. One I want to share with someone this beauty, and solitude is one of the prices I pay for sailing solo. The second question that comes up is that I want more safety. As my Cyclades journey continues I end up addressing these two issues for the future. With curiosity one is never bored. And if you are curious as I am you can never be bored. There is always something else to see, to learn, to study and explore. The challenge of sailing in the beautiful Aegean sea island to island is nothing short of magnificent.
    This planning of this adventure started late in 2021,after our long Covid battle, desperate to sease life again I departed Palma with my son Peter, grandson Ixmael, and friend Javi. We left Palma de Mallorca, went to Palermo, Sicily. Then they went home and I continues along the North Coast of Sicily around the Aeolians (Lipari Islands) joined by my daughter Alex and her friends. Then they left and I did my first one week solo thru the Straight of Messina and down the East Coast of Sicily. Then again joined by my friend Javi we crossed the Ionian and headed through the Corinth Canal, out into the Aegean. We continued down the coast of the Pennepolese to Porto Heli where Vayu my sailing yacht wintered.
    This second sailing season has me fighting inertia in Ep 14 and finally deciding to go solo for an exploration of the Cyclades. The challenge of weeks solo sailing in unknown seas is intimidating. But I decide to go anyway and take my first step to Kythnos with unexpected pleasure, challenge and adventure along the way. My journey continued to Syros and Syphnos where I felt that the lesser known Cyclades are more to my liking. So off to Seifos and Antiparos where Im finding greater confidence and more joy as I explore Sifnos and really discover Despotikos instead of Antiparos which was my original goal.
    SAILING ADVENTURES WITH GRANDAD are my amateur creations of my travels and experiences on Vayu my 44 ft X-yacht Vayu. The people I travel with, the places we go, the times we have and my reflections on living this challenge that come with this challenge Ive created for my life..
    I am Michael, a lifetime sailor, practicing yogi, father of 4, grandad of 5, amateur chef, and thankful man. I live between Palma de Mallorca, on Vayu my sailboat and in Los Cabos Mexico. I share my life now with my beautiful partner Isabel who joins me sailing when she can and when the weather is guaranteed to be nice.
    This channel was launched at the beginning of the Ukrainian invasion. I make monthly contributions to Save the Children-Ukraine, in the hope that my small bit added to millions of other small bits can in a small way help ease the suffering caused by this horrific war.
    Thanks for your interest. Sailing like life… its all in the journey!
    Cheers!

    Tikanis Mikael. Another captivating episode. On top of it all, I can only imagine what type of cigar you may be enjoying on that beautiful sea. I have more than a hunch on what the brandy might be. Keep up the GREAT work Sir. Ty for sharing ❤
