The fact the you got the snares from southernsnares and the knowledge from a meattrapper video, coupled with the fact that you gave them a shout out is why i am subbing. I know them both personally and are great men with vast ammounts of knowledge. Kudos

I trap 150 200 coyotes a year I use a snare quite a bit you asked for advice here’s a few take your snares after you build them boil them and baking soda it will take the shine off of them. They stick out like a polar bear in a mud puddle when hanging your snare set it square with your trail this one appears to be turned to the right. If you’re standing behind it another thing I noticed your snare isn’t pre-loaded It’s a good thing to do. I know if you’re using 7 x 7 it can be a bit tricky to pre-load but once you get the hang of it and you see how they work, you’ll do it every time another suggestion would be put 50 pound compression Springs i’m not big on the mini torque kill springs. I don’t think they work as good as the compression spring. I’m not trying to sound like a know it all I started trapping in 1990 snares is what I started with like I said, I average 150 to 200 coyotes for the last 25+ years that’s all I do from Thanksgiving to the end of March using a snare I’ve caught everything from a coyotes, beaver otter, Havelina bobcats, muskrat even just to see if I could do it I don’t know if you build your own snares, but if you ever should want advice I would be more than glad to help you like I said I don’t know everything and if I don’t know the answer, I won’t steer you wrong. I’ll tell you I don’t know if you do look me up on Facebook PM me I’d be more than glad to help. Good luck buddy.

I snared a 400 lb. boar 2 years ago. I put some corn in front of the trap, and wrapped (poison) Ivy vine around the steel cable to hide the bare steel. Your snare sets looked so good, that I`m ordering a set myself.
You could use a bungee cord to secure the snare where you put it around the tree so it does not slip down. It would allow you to make sure that it doesn’t interfere with the wire you hang the noose with.
Seems like a good tree. And a few years from now when it's harvested, those staples could ruin a good blade. Please pull'em when you're finished with the hogs.
Thank you! Consider scent management, baiting, and non-target critters (dogs especially if/depending situation). Which you may just not have mentioned. Also minor funneling / disguise of set. Good job.
Hey! I usually just use the length of my hand to measure from the ground to the bottom of the snare. Works for me! Hope that’s helps. Approximately 7-8” for most. Also situational on the size of your l hogs. I’d say on average this works well. May need to play with it with really large hogs.
Ti ringrazio per avermi risposto ho provato a mettere il laccio all'altezza del palmo come mi hai detto ma l'indomani ho trovato un cinghiale bloccato con la zampa posteriore non capisco xke...
@@francocicalese6734just trial and error. Just need to play with it. Depending on the size of the hogs you have around brother. Typically hand length high works well for me.
I would just not hammer staples into the tree. You could affix your offset wire by looping it around the trunk, would use more wire, but would not puncture your, or the owner's on a lease, trees.
That’s a very good point. Usually just use a nearby branch, but when not applicable I use this technique. I have removed the fencing staples though. Pry bar with a point worked well, with minimal damage to tree.
@@337WoodWorks Some trees have bark thick and solid enough to firmly hold short/fine staples that don't penetrate the cambium (green) layer immediately outside the solid wet wood, so don't damage (or minimal damage). There's a "knack" to getting it right. Worth it as damaged trees aren't good, particularly crop trees. Fixing traps is similar, below stumpp height and not exposing the wood that risks infection helps

I think yes it's cheap , but the goal is to get rid of them. A metal trap is about 6000. There is a very, very effective net design for 2500. If you have a way to sell the hogs it will pay off fast
Not true big traps with right bait catch all in area at same time you have to let hogs call hogs dumb buts it's so amazing u let hogs out smart you been trying with fish in Illinois as well have to call them also. Big John be safe
@Aaron Foreman Fishing Tks. For your comment to catch a hog u have to let hogscall themselves ie same with fish snakes also u have to understand query to catch them simple hogs need special feed not just corn u have to call fish big john
Looks good except for them nails your puttin in my timber, mill wont take them trees. Since its your first time, I would go back and tell people to maybe use something else, other wise you wont be able to find a box of fence staples anywhere in S.E. Ga. and cost timber companies millions 🤣
Thanks man. I never leave my snares out for long, and I use the claw on the tool and small pry bar to remove the staples when I pick up the set. Quick and easy. Thanks for looking out though. I should have mentioned this during the video. Multiple people have said the same thing lol.
It did work brother, but I do appreciate your input. I caught a very large sal on this very trap. I also have a video up of another hog I caught on a different snare.

You could stretch it

That’s awesome Steven and a great idea with the vine. I didn’t use anything to camo the bare steel, but I don’t think they noticed it.
Animals don't see it as wire or danger, they see it as just another weed in the field or in the brush
