Hi! The Greyhawk setting was created first (before Dragonlance), so Kargoth is really The First Death Knight in dnd! You may find the stories similar with Lord Soth, yet with less level of drama. I liked the character concept and the ease he sold everyone out for power, very straight-forward thinking but extremely powerful villian 😄
Ah, this is great stuff TML. I can see you've put a lot of work into this video. The illustrations you chose were great, captured the story very well. I'm the author of most of the St. Kargoth lore in the articles you referenced and it was a lot of fun fleshing him out for the World of Greyhawk 20+ years ago. You are correct that St. Kargoth is the first named death knight in all of D&D lore, beating Lord Soth by almost a year. He appeared in a 1983 Dragon article (issue #79) by Scott Bennie. Sadly Scott passed away a few weeks back, otherwise I would have sent him a link to this video. I think he was genuinely appreciative of what became of his character. The lore in the subsequent articles tends to weave the original Fiend Folio lore about Death Knights, the St. Kargoth character, and firmly ground them in the first AD&D setting, the World of Greyhawk. Hopefully did it some justice. Whereas Lord Soth tends to be a tragic and melancholy fellow, St. Kargoth is almost a pure villain who wants to wreak tragedy on others. Looking forward to more of your videos.
@Pluffet Smedger ah, its an honor to have a true loremaker notice. Glad you liked it and thank you very much for a feedback and history dive! Thats true, I always try to find art that would relate to the story and mood. You are very welcome on my channel! So nice of you that you wanted to share it. Sorry to hear it about S.Bennie :( Kargoth is a great villian indeed, yet didn't get enough attention, I tried to pay him some respect, highlighting him here.
Love this one. My party completely wiped early in our attempt to play Savage Tide so we never made it to see Kargoth. I think he will have something to say in my current GH campaign. Great job once again!
Kargoth was once a paladin of the greyhawk group of harts, when their leader decided to retire, a younger paladin was elevated to leadership, Kargoths pride became his undoing when 1 ore more people whispered into his ear that HE, as in Kargoth, should have been made leader. Kargoth eventually called for a trial by combat which rules stated that the challance lasted until sundown, Kargoth LOST the challance due to both in the trial were pretty much evenly matched
Great video! Haven't heard of Saint Kargoth and I love the idea of implementing him in my high level campaign. Are there any stats for him anywhere? 5e or otherwise?
Thanks! As the charcter is old, you can find his stats only in old materials. I believe The Savage Tide adventure (Demon Prince chapter) is the freshest you can get. Also you can try Dragon 290 and Dragon 291 issues, it had stat blocks too.

Running Savage tide right now, Kargoth has done more damage to my party than any other opponent.
Great adventure!
Another fantastic video. Thank you.
Happy you liked it!
My knowledge of Greyhawk lore is deep, but I am impressed. This was a great deep dive.

First, your amazing, thanks for the hard work. Also, can you do Lord Loren Soth?! I want to know everything and your opinion on him. Thanks!!
Oh snap! You did. Just found the video. THANK YOU!!!!!
Reading through all of this lore, who do you believe is the more powerful Death Knight between Saint Kargoth and Lord Soth?
