Charlie, the ariel views are of Barnstaple Junction, not Victoria Road. By the way, you need a trap point between the double slip and the goods yard, to protect the passenger-carrying lines. You could always just insert a dummy one if you like. Looks like you'd have room for a headshunt though.
Oh dear, I'm in trouble this time. Thanks Peter, regards Charlie.
Especially with the falling gradient!
Rest assured I’m on to it!
eBay purchase complete. 😜
I was thinking the same thing!
As always Charlie enjoyable factual and inspirational to watch, a lot of track work could have been avoided though as you stated early on that Dr Breeching had rationalised it , so a single line alone with DMU operation would be fine, please forgive my silly sence of humour and thank you again for your Great video's.
Charlie, that is looking great. Cannot wait to see the station over the helix. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Ken
Thanks Ken, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Yes I always enjoy the videos. Have you heard from David Townend at McKinley Railway? I hope all is well with him and his crew. Ken
Things are now taking shape at McKinley we now just need our jabs.
Charlie as always a great video!Keep ummm coming👍👍👍
Thanks mate, the next video is tomorrow!
A lot of what you show is way over my head. But I just find your videos so interesting. Thank you so much
Thank you BA, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
Had to back track..no pun intended for this one, I still have not got a layout but the videos are really interesting, keep them coming.
I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel Roger.
Being a cabinetmaker of 25 years you are slowly getting there to becoming a good chippy as they say looking good to Charlie really injoying watching your model come to life
That's very kind of you to say so Adam. Regards Charlie
My Grandad used to say, “as one door closes another one opens”. Lovely man, rubbish Cabinet maker 🤣🤣🤣
👋👍 from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 in a Lockdown and curfew
thanks for the video
Stay Safe and Healthy
Thank you, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Well done Charlie, another great video
Thanks Jason, regards Charlie
First time for everything Charlie. You have made a good job of your project. Putting my helixs in has been delayed for a few month. Need a new boiler in December. A oh that's life take care. Great video.
Such a shame Iain, but I’m sure you’ll sort it in the end. Regards Charlie
Love this update Charlie
Looking great
Thanks Nick I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Really enjoy your narrative expansions and calm voice. 'Stone the crows' made me smile. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ed, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Charlie, your getting me through this lunacy season with your weekly videos. Picking up a huge amount of tips when i eventually get around to building my own layout.
He’s great to have you on board for the journey Jason. Regards Charlie
Hi, Charlie you are a man after my own heart, I have only just found you so are binge watching whilst waiting for a shed to be put up for my second attempt at a model railway. Your videos are great with a lacing humour which we all need. Keep up the good work and I will keep watching. Cheers Phil.
It’s great to have you on-board Phil. Take care, regards Charlie
I live near Barnstaple and have studied the stations again and again and yet you still have managed to teach me something. Great video cant wait to see more!
I’m afraid I have a confession! I’m told that the aerial photos are not of Victoria Road station, and that Victoria Road station is now all gone bar the platform. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailway. I was thinking there was something not right lol
Since I am DC only I enjoyed the comment that DCC is only 2 wires. Since my layout was started in the 80's I think I'll keep the wiring I have installed. Totally enjoy your videos and look forward to the next. Thanks for your work.
That’s very kind of you to say so Jim. Regards Charlie
Cutting outside in this weather? Now that's what I call dedication. :-) It's too cold in my flat to work on the layout indoors. Brrrr.
The pressure of producing UA-cam videos! Regards Charlie
Hallo Charlie and Friends, I retired just after covid and I am a rookie at this, have been watching your channel for about a year now, always very good thank you. I am based in South Africa, our currency is weak and getting model railway goodies is difficult. I am still getting used to terminology used in the model railway channels. I also watch Marklin of Sweden, Luke Towan, Ron's Trains and Things and even Sams Trains. I am building an Arduino controlled turntable at present. Keep up the good show, thank you.
It’s great to have you onboard Ferdi.
I follow those guys too.
Regards Charlie.
Another good one Charlie keep it up we live in boring times. After 20years of fitting Bedrooms and kitchens You stick to trains its more fun.
Thanks Will I’m sure that is sound advice. Regards Charlie
This is looking tremendous, Charlie. The progress has been superb and I enjoy following you (and others) so much, I can't get on with my own! lol. (As for people wanting to send you stuff....... you're not hard to find!!)
All the best. Bob
Thanks so much Bob, regards Charlie
It's hard to believe a year has passed since I last watched this video. 'In the fullness of time' I have added some features to my small layout that make use of what you did here, and what you did here is still more useful! I never dreamed I would have use for a single-slip, over here in the colonies, but there it is. Thanks again, Charlie.
That’s great news M37, I’m so pleased that you have found the channel useful.
Thiis inspired me to replace a point which has given me a lot of grief over the years of operating my layout any future projects I will wire up the points before I install them once again thank you for the informative video
I’m so pleased that you found the video useful Thomas. Regards Charlie
I like coming back to these episodes after I've already seen it in it's current state, Summer 2022.
It’s great to have you on-board Andrew, and thanks for coming back. Regards Charlie
The layout is looking better all the time. Nice balance between playing trains at the branch station and watching the trains go around the mainline. Love watching it take shape.
Thanks Mark, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Fridays would never be the same without yet another brilliant video from Charlie and seeing the progress on Chadwick.
Thanks Ian you’re far too kind mate. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, I have to say that i love your videos. As Someone that has grown up in Barnstaple it's really nice to see the old stations represented. I'm glad to see that someone has corrected the mix up with Barnstaple junction and Victoria road :)
keep up the great work :)
Thanks Joe, I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, I am a recent discoverer of your channel as I am returning to the rail modelling fraternity after some away time. I am planning a new layout in limited space and getting into DCC for the first time and I have found your videos both informative and entertaining. I just wanted to say thanks and keep up the good work. I was also interested to hear some of your background as I am ex-RAN and P&O. Cheers Kim (from down under)
I’m so pleased that you enjoy the channel and it’s great to have you onboard.
hi charlie love your videos i look for ward to fridays when i watch your videos all helps to keep us good in thease times good luck with the rest off your build derek
Thanks Derek, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the channel. Regards
Very entertaining, informative and enjoyable as always. As a carpenter of 50 years there's nothing wrong with what you are doing. Look forward to seeing some trains running.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Les.
Just found these videos. You had your Barnstaples mixed up, Victoria Road is now a car park, it was a lot bigger than 3 coaches 7 at least and handled through trains to Ilfracombe post war. Now engine came on the back and took the other approach line to Barnstaple Junction, shown by the main road, once handled 10 coach rains, now just a single track. Your scenery is Excellent
Thanks for the info David. Much appreciated, regards Charlie
Happy 125th!! The layout is making great progress. I’ve just laid track on my layout which has a gradient too!
Harry C I'm so pleased that you found the video useful.
Regards Charlie
I'm a tad late getting to this video, Charlie. Everything is looking good. Can't wait to see trains running again!
Me too Pat, I really can’t wait. Regards Charlie
Charlie, I've literally just finished building the baseboards and upper level (only taken me two years) and have had to drill and countersink every screw, and NOW you tell me about those drill bits!!!!!!!! lol! Great wee bit of kit.
The area is coming on well, love the contrast between the incline and decline, it'll look brilliant once it's done. Cheers, John.
Exactly how I felt when someone told me!
Cheers Charlie, another enjoyable cuppa with custard creams, great video as usual, looking forward to watching the progress of the project.
Thanks Dave,, you’re too kind. Regards Charlie
Great update video to the layout. Until next time, cheers Charlie
Thanks Jim, regards Charlie
"But it is what it is." is my new favourite youtuber catchphrase.
Strangely "we are where we are" has entered my lexicon :-)
Great choices gentlemen.
Excellent progress Charlie ... it’s looking very nice indeed ... very informative, thank you.
Thanks Nigel I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
that was very interesting. i love watching people paying attention to detail. thanks again. the Toulouse connection.
Thanks Kevin, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting.
Thank you for these videos. For someone that has taken up the time consuming hobby of model railways during the busiest time of my life working for the NHS during covid and looking after a young child your channel has been invaluable.
I’m so pleased that you have found it a useful form of escapism Peter. Keep up your invaluable work mate, regards Charlie
Awesome again Charlie. I'm really enjoying seeing the layout come together and the progress you've made since you started. Thanks for putting the time and effort in to creating these videos. All the best!
What a heart warming comment Simon, you're too kind.
Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Charlie: "I've never tried laying tracks on a hill"... then proceeds to create a hill on top of his helix! Great video, as always, but that did make me chuckle.
I’m so pleased that you found it amusing Gary. Stay safe, regards Charlie
Remember copydex I used to let it dry on my fingers and roll it into a ball. The layout is looking great Charlie.
Thanks Mark, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Regards Charlie
Magnificent, thank-you. Very timely for my thoughts. Of course, whether they turn into reality . . .
I'm very taken with the importance of getting away from flat-earth modelling!
Of course, I now covet your digital level!
Well done both of you. And, again, thanks!
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it John.
Looking good keep posting updates of the layout
Thanks mate, I’m glad you like the look of it. regards Charlie
Good afternoon Charlie great video. Its looking good. Now awaiting your next adventure with baited breath.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Stephen. Regards Charlie
Another great video! I enjoy watching your videos every week.
I appreciate that! Regards Charlie
Another great and exciting episode from Charlie and CMR exppertly delivered yet again
Thanks John, you’re too kind.
Great video Charlie and a great tip about the drill bits. I ordered them just after watching the video yesterday. They have just arrived! Cheers, George
Blimey George, Amazon don’t hang around do they. Regards Charlie
Thanks for the video Charlie, I look forward to watching it later tonight . 👍
Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait Steve. Regards Charlie
Morning Charlie,
Nice video, coming along nicely with some useful tips,
I’m so pleased that you found it useful Mick. Regards Charlie
Looking really good Charlie, can't wait for the next video.
Thanks Mark, it’s out tomorrow !
Good Stuff Charlie
Always look forward to your videos
It doesn't hurt to over engineer the supports
It hurts more when your finished and problems arise due to cutting corners
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Ron.
Another well put together and very interesting video Charlie. You make it look so easy. All the best.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it tim. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Great to see the layout progress, brave to use a double slip, very brave on an incline, keeping everything precise as you have gives you a fighting chance. Enjoyable video once again thank you.
Yes it’s life on the edge at Chadwick! Stay safe mate, regards Charlie
Hi Charlie. Hope you and all your family are well? That was really interesting on how you’ve built a small ramp so as it’s not all on the flat lands. Barnstaple junction station in its day was fantastic and glad your replicating if only in a small way. I can recall visiting the station back in 1974 as my Mum lived in IIfracombe but unfortunately I had to catch the bus as the line was closed but not lifted. It’s a shame it didn’t get preserved as a heritage line. I think they tried but didn’t have any success as the line has gone now 😫 Take care until the next exciting episode of Chadwick. Cheers Stevie.
What a heartwarming comment Stevie. Regards Charlie.
thank for another informative and entertaining video.
You’re most welcome Geoff.
Well done Charlie ,another fine video..Try using a small mirror level with the track to see if the track is straight it saves a lot of bending !!!!
I have one but I can’t find it (nothing new there then).
I love the way you layed the track on your layout the station will look great when finished. Cheers and all the best.
Nicholas.
Thanks Nicholas, my fingers are crossed.
Excellent again Charlie, very informative, it’s coming on great, take care 👍
Thanks Kevin I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Regards Charlie
Good progress Charlie, great work as always. Stay well, Chris
Thanks Chris, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting.
Another Great Video Charlie , Thank You Regards Dave
Thanks Dave,, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards Charlie
Another excellent, informative video! Great work Charlie.
Glad you enjoyed it Alan.
I love seeing the progress on your layout. Can't wait till next video comes out. I am learning so much from your videos. Thank you.
That’s very nice of you to say so Leon. Regards Charlie
Yet another enjoyable and informative video Charlie. It's always good to see the progress that you are making with your layout.
Thanks Mark I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards Charlie
Another excellent video Charlie very entertaining and very informative
Really enjoy your videos
Cheers
Thanks David that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards Charlie
HI Charlie
Modifying peco points As you describe also prevents short circuits with stock that has larger wheels.
I originally left the point as original and placed insulated joiners on the frog rails
However, the point blades both assume the same polarity and are thepolarity of the rail that they are switched to(if that makes sense).
There now is only a small gap between a point blade and a nearby rail and they are different polarity
A overscale metal wheel especially at speed and on a curve Will short this out . Intermittently!!! Took me
A very annoying time to Work this out.
Keep up the good work
Howard
I’m so pleased that you found it useful Howard.
You make it look so easy, that would be several weeks of work for me!
He was three days work for me Keith!
Great video as always, great inspiration to me as well. Stay safe during these difficult times. Liam
Thanks Liam, you’re too kind.
@@ChadwickModelRailway No problem. Liam
perfect way to spend my lunch break working from home! Looks great Charlie! Going back through many of your videos as I plan an upgrade to my layout as I'm moving house!
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it Peter. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, thank you for your as always interesting and beautiful video! Your layout will be great! Best wishes from Germany Günter
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it buddy.
Although I have a Hornby Dublo 3-rail layout, I really enjoy your videos. And thanks for the tip on the drill bit/countersink combo - just placed my order with Amazon.
That’s something that you certainly won’t be disappointed with Martin. Regards Charlie
Charlie - Wonderful video as usual. Just getting back into modelling after many years and busily resurrecting part of my brother's layout based on Padstow. Your numerous tips have provided me now with a much more sensible approach to my layout. Too hasty for my own good!!
Please remember that planning is everything Kevin. Regards Charlie
Another informative stream thank you for showing, however I have to finish watching since I have to work now will watch this later
Hopefully will be worth the wait Thomas. Regards Charlie
Thanks Charlie. It's great to see the AnyRail plan becoming a reality, can't wait for the next track update. Cheers Warren
Thanks Warren, I always find your comments encouraging. Regards Charlie.
Wonderful yet again Charlie, love the drill come countersink tool, gotta get some of those..
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Mark.
Love it as always. Hey, Charlie, please put a piece of track over the top crest, and make sure your loco clears it. I have a loco with an extra large fuel tank with less than a mm of clearance, and it bottoms out on a bad joint!
A fair point Chris and I shall certainly check it out. Regards Charlie
Great vid mate, very professional now subbed
Thanks Michael, it’s great to have you onboard.
@@ChadwickModelRailway thanks mate, can I pick your brain, when you do a raised track on plywood how do you go about doing the long curves n the board? Do you just freehand with a sharpie then cut with a jigsaw and then lay the track ? I will be building a N gauge layout which is 9ft x 7ft and rather than having the track laid on a flat board I’d like my track raised (similar thing to moldy raspberry’s layout) and my board is going to be in 3 pieces for if I move house which in my mind brings more problems trying to get the boards and track to meet each other
Hi Michael, yes that’s exactly what I do. Just keep the board a little wider than you need for last minute adjustments.
@@ChadwickModelRailway thanks mate so to get the nice smooth curves it’s a case of eyeing the track as you lay it down.
Love watching your videos on a particular subject before I tackle that job on my own layout, your video back catalogue is my go to encyclopaedia, so informative and enjoyable to watch...kinda makes sense 😄
It’s great to have you on-board Des. Regards Charlie
Enjoyable as always Charlie! Cheers Euan
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Euan.
Thanks again for another great video Charlie. The detail you go into and the thought process you describe make it very easy to follow
Thanks Alan, I’m so pleased that you find it interesting. Regards Charlie
this is another great video, certainly inspires one to start their owe layout as you have laid out all the steps in an easy to do way. The small segment about the points brought a small point (!) to mind about running coaches thru them . great
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting John. Regards Charlie
Good to hear. I do like new layout.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it Bob. Stay safe. Regards Charlie
I'm always impressed with your videos and your extensive knowledge. I enjoy watching and learning despite the fact that I have an O gauge 3 rail layout.
I’m so pleased that you find the channel interesting.
Another enjoyable video and I have now purchased one of them digital levels, as I need to sort out one of my inclines on the layout as some trains make it and others don't. Always find your videos helpful and informative. All the best ,stay safe John.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it John stay safe mate, regards Charlie
Excellent as always. Time for the second wire
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it John
Great work, Charlie. Cutting the upper board back a little to allow for the embankment/retaining wall is a good move I think - look forward to seeing that. Love the detail of easing the slope near the top too.
I’m so pleased that you found the video interesting Tom. Regards Charlie
You've done a power of work Charlie, My own new highland layout is at a standstill after falling over our Labrador on an icy path. So bit bruised and sore. Still it gives me time to watch your progress. Look forward to another video.
I’m pleased that you enjoyed it David.
do take it easy, regards Charlie
Awesome how to video Charlie! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Onno.
Thanks Onno, it’s great to have you onboard.
Hi Charlie i'm pleased to see the continued construction & trackwork on your layout, it's looks great I hardly saw any errors on camera but I was impressed with your advanced level! 😱 You're actually helping me with my about to be constructed N scale layout, the HO SCALE is really advancing in model buildings & trains this is advancing. Don't worry I'm a carpenter you're doing fine 😄. Great work. 😀
It’s great to have you onboard Harold with approval of woodworking too.
I can’t call it carpentry!
Regards Charlie.
Great stuff as always.
Thanks Chris, regards Charlie.
Excellent update again Charlie and great progress! Barnstaple track layout looks really good and well engineered ... and the baseboard and supports appear nuclear blast proof! (perhaps a test required with a nuclear flask to the good siding?! 😜) I’ve never seen those countersink drill bit combination: excellent idea and I’ve just ordered a set ... I wonder if the manufacturer are confused today with a rush of orders! Good luck with the next stage of the project 👍 Regards, Mark
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it Mark. Rest assured those drill bits will sell out.
Awesome bit of work... Looking good.
I won't mention anything about Barnstaple this time... 🤐
Will be nice to see it when it's done though, as the actual site you're modelling has all but gone. Just the goods shed left (now a church) and some platform edges along the side of the main road. Such a shame.
Really enjoying the videos though. 👍
I’m so pleased that you find it enjoyable, especially for a local chap. Regards Charlie
You presentations are wonderful. You're so succinct and yet technically descriptive. Your self effacing sense of humor emerges too. For my needs: I'm developing an N gauge layout after a 64 year hiatus from model trains. I purchased some Peco flex track and two insulfrog turnouts. However, I am still in a quandary about whether I should prefer insulfrogs or electrofrogs. My layout will be DCC and I will not likely have legacy locos, all new. I expect that my choice of new locos will mean that I don't need electrofrogs. Right? If I asked you a similar question in the past, please excuse me, but I need some certainty before I invest in more turnouts.
Hi Jerry, I would always lean towards electrofrog. With short wheelbase locos, such as 0-6-0 and 0-4-0, their pick-ups are limited. They also look much more realistic. Regards Charlie
Nice one Charlie, really taking shape now. regards Gareth
Thanks Gareth I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it mate. Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie very good video nice to get a little refresher on the points, I know you have done ballasting already but a good one would be to cover ballasting points which is a nervy one for most by the way it was me mentioned the car hoover from halfords and you still haven't named me and it wasn't ridicule it was a helpful tip at the time you were fighting the missus for her tights to wrap around her hoover.
Regards
David
Rest assured David, it wasn’t just your comment regarding the small vacuum cleaner some folks have ripped me apart for it! Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, another cracking video, really looking forward to seeing trains running. Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg, so am I. I’m now busy landscaping! Regards Charlie.
Wow - real countersinks... I'm sure I've got one lying around somewhere that must be at least as old as we are, Charlie.
I’d never seen them before and an thoroughly impressed.
Hi Charlie, loving your work. A little tip I use for checking your track is straight is use a small mirror so you can see down the line without have to be a gymnast look down to see if the track has no cinks in it.
Looking forward to the next video
Are use a mirror too, however as usual, I can’t find the wretched thing. Regards Charlie
[thank, you for youre great helpful video]👍
Thanks G6377, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
You always present your building processes in a thoughtful way, well done 👍.
Thank you very much Paul.
I really like your track plan for the yard that you showed. I may copy it and use it on my N gouge layout.
Now that’s a real compliment.
