In this restoration video I restore an old tricycle from the german brand "Puky" from the 60s. I myself had as a child such a trike and have collected beautiful childhood memories with it. Now I wanted to take the opportunity and pass on these childhood memories, because I will be in the next few days the first time uncle, because my brother is expecting a baby boy. The antique kids toy was very rusty and incomplete.
As usual, I started the restoration by completely unscrewing the Puky Dreirad as it is called in Germany. After I had all the parts separately in front of me, I sandblasted the metal parts.
After sandblasting I repainted the frame parts and the wheels.
I sanded the remaining metal parts from 80-400 grit and then nickel plated them.
Most of the work on this project was on the saddle. First, I built a bench seat from a multiplex board, which I then upholstered with foam. As a cover I chose red leatherette, which I provided in my first sewing attempt with decorative stitching and underlaid with a thin sheet of foam.
The cover turned out very nice and fits the design of the 60s.
The missing handles and pedals I replicated with the help of my buddy Sven and his girlfriend Anne via 3D printing.
Finally, I redesigned the original puky logo and had it printed on stickers.
The result is a beautiful tricycle that I can give to my brother and his girlfriend for their birth.
I look forward to seeing the little one on the tricycle and wish my brother with his little family all the best for the future.

No way! You’ve got to be kidding me!? I think the little one is going to love it :) can‘t wait to see him rollin ;) glad to have a brother like you! Thanks
Looking forward to hand it over within the next days. See you LITTLE LITTLE brother
Well said!!
You have a fantastic bro’. And I think you are too.
nice restoration and sentiment (brother)
Amazing!🥺 Generations of good men!
"In Switzerland, we would make new ones." Had me rolling. Very nice job!
This tricycle is broken, I make a new one.
Hehe of course I had to refer to MM when I talked about the tires. He did push the limits with his scooter
😂😂😂😂
Making a new one misses the whole point my friend.
@@NTRprojects I don’t think they know who is My Mechanics.
What I like most about this channel isn't the pure need for views like with most restoration channels, but that there is usually a story or reason behind all the restos. Screwdriver and scissors for friends, mixer for girlfriend. I have kiddos and this is an awesome gift. Also the wide variety of things restored. Good job my friend.
I really like it when I know I do it for someone or when I know I really need the restored object myself. Like the vise for example. Makes the work easier ;)
@@NTRprojects exactly my point!
@@NTRprojects I'd like to see you restore the rusty pliers you were using in the video. Super job on the tricycle.
If you’re not annoying a sibling then what are you even doing with your life? Fantastic work as always.
It’s so fascinating how you can turn trash into treasure! Please post a video of your nephew using it
Thank you very much alpha. But I wont put a video. I dont want to put a kid on the internet, that cant decide if he wants it yet
While in Switzerland they make new tyres, you can now teach them how to make new pedals and handles 🤣... Beautiful restoration, loved it 👍👍👩🔧
I like the fact that your profile pic shows a tricycle
@@NTRprojects Ha ha . Yes was one of my first projects so it became my logo 😉
this made me cry, it is such a sweet gift the little tricycle has a new life.....you are already a great Uncle and lucky little nephew!!!!!
Oh Nora I'm touched that you watch my videos with such an emotional connection. Thank you for your words. Best wishes
I don’t know why but at the end I started to tear up. Maybe because this reminded me of my own trike and happy childhood memories.
Wow, someone is going g to have so much fun with that.
And being an Uncle means you can give the noisy toys cause you don't have to listen to them😉
I did this for a family friends baby, I didn’t have the money to buy a proper baby shower gift and I was surprised to find a old rusted tricycle out for free on the side of the road, I took it home and took it apart, repainted everything and gave it to her for her baby shower, she nearly started crying and he loves riding it now
Sounds amazing. Glad you did the same project and it turned out to be a great success
Please don't judge us by Moosehead beer. The trike is a sweet ride for your new nephew- love those white wheels!I truly think this little bike is absolutely better than when it rolled out of the factory!
No worries I only judge the beer and not the origin country. I actually enjoyed it btw
So nice that it's a memory of your childhood. Now for the next generation to enjoy.
Gotta appreciate someone that has skill in upholstery. Used to be one of America's top tradeskills.
The memories that a tricycle like this brings me...
Even though it's in a much worse condition than this one, I still keep it for one day to see it restored.
Not Terrible indeed. Very well done. I have a hard time believing that you haven't used that sewing machine before. The saddle was spot on. Your nephew (?) is a lucky kid to be getting that restored piece of history. Keep up the good work.
Hehe thank you it was the first time, but like I said it took three tries to make it
ʜᴇʟʟᴏ ʙʀᴏ..❤️🙏
I am one of your fans and in my country IRAN 🇮🇷
I introduce your channel to everyone.
You create the best out of the oldest tools.
You work very carefully and neatly.
I am your constant fan.🥰❤️
Hadi from Iran🇮🇷
Beautiful. What a wonderful uncle you will make.
I really hope so! Best regards and thank you
Those dents in the handlebars and wheel rims suggest the previous owner (or owners) were real daredevils.
Hopefully your nephew will simply enjoy it rather that pushing it past its limits.
Knowing it was lovingly restored for him to carry on a tradition hopefully will impress him and cause him to treasure it as he should.
Easy to tell I have never had children.
Hopefully you will be available for its next restoration!
A beautiful job! An heirloom in the making.
🚲👍
What a nice feedback. Thank you so much squiremc
very cute. i'm sure your new nephew will be so happy!
I hope so too Brian
I love these all, but this one was *astonishing*. Plus, it had stop motion too - my favorite!
Beautiful restoration of the old bicycle for your grandchild
okay, that seat was pro level restoration
Think you've got the position of favorite Uncle nailed for the rest of the Little Man's life.
Well you have to deliver if your going for this position :D
Well done! Congratulations on the new nephew.
Best uncle ever.
I hope so, but dont tell my other brother
OMG it's so CUTE! I love it! And as always, I love the blue.
I think it's wonderful a cherished heirloom for your nephew have a day love from TEXAS.
Hey Tina thank you so much and all the love back to Texas from Germany (currently on vacation in Austria)
Fantastic. What a lucky nephew.
You are so kind. Thank you William
This video made me tear up a little remembering my old tricycle from when I was a kid...
Beautiful restoration. I have a feeling your little nephew is going to love the trike.
I must have missed this vid, excellent by the way, when we were kids and making bikes from any part we could scrounge/'find' or buy, handle grips we would stick on using our sisters hairspray. My mate who I served with in the French foreign legion is Canadian and goes by the nickname Moose, he drinks this beer Moosehead, I'm actually having another drink of 'Old Speckled Hen Ale'.🍺🍺🍺
A very nice job, It Turns Out amazing and ad I was Born 1960 and Düring muy childhood I spent in Wanne Wickel ( Germany ), It bring's Back so many Beauty and unforgettable Moments I Had with muy brothers and Germán Friends. I really Love all you dif to get Back into Life this trycicle. Thank you so much. Greetings from Gran Canaria, Guillermo Martínez
Very nice. Like the bell, and I'm sure the kid will like the bell too.
I hope so too. I hope hes ringing it nonstop :D
@@NTRprojects My nieces and nephews all were fascinated by the bell on their tricycles / bicycles for a few weeks before they got good at riding.
OCD triggers... YES! I have OCD triggers. It makes my fingers itch & twitch to FIX IT!!!
Sometimes when I watch a restoration video I get triggered & want to brush the restorer's hands away & do it myself... *big sigh* I do love to fix things... Thanks for the happy hours I experience when watching your videos!
Amazing Sir! You have become one of my absolute favorite channels. There is something here for everyone. Wholesome story of love and kindness? Check. Beautiful restoration? Check. Demonstrations and explanations of techniques , materials, and processes? Check. Collaboration with other skilled makers? Check. Humorous references to other well known restoration channels? Check. Beer? Check! Seriously, I cannot adequately express how much every aspect of each video you produce amazes me. Respect and well wishes to you!
Oh James. What a wonderful feedback. I think I will frame it. Thats a lot of motivation for the next project. Best regards
Any kid would love to own such a beautiful bike !
excellent job your nephew will love this
Thank you Jim. Im looking forward to see him ride it
Wow! You literally just made a new family heirloom from an old treasure. I can see this being passed around the family for many years. Such a thoughtful gift.
Hey MAd. Thank you so much. Nicely said
Мастер "Золотые руки"!
Great job. Your nephew will love it
Thank you Maria. I'm really looking forward
just an awesome restoration
worth to put this thing in a museum
but i bet the little one has way more fun with it when riding :D
I'm so excited to see him riding for the first time, but I think I have to wait a little
You’re the closest to my mechanic perfection! Great job! and first in video editing quality for sure!
I love Moosehead. Its not an exotic or fancy beer but just a little less common so a nice rarity - I would often get it when visiting Canada.
That is a beautiful restoration. Your nephew should be very happy with his tricycle. Congratulations on becoming an uncle!
Thanks Michael. I'm really looking forward to welcome my nephew
That saddle is awesome. What a great gift
He needs to have a comfortable seat. But honestly I'm really glad my sewing actually worked out :)
That thing is Too Cute he is going to love it 👍
I lived in Frankfurt for two years when my father was in the army. Good job on the restoration.
..we all started riding on a tricycle...lol...good one, keep safe..
Thank you Bob
@@NTRprojects ...looks better than new..
@@bobjoncas2814 how do you manage to always comment first 😊
@@NTRprojects ..your notification pops up on my screen, no matter what i'm watching, and i rush to watch you work...lol..
Very nice work. The little fella is going to love it.
Thanks a lot Shed Man👍
Nice piece to give your nephew 👏 👌
Thank you 😊
I love the wheels as the patina piece. I am amazing the laundry softener trick worked
Hey I also read that a 1:1 mixture of vinegar essence and pure alcohol works as well. But please don't do it with car or bike tires. They will fall apart
Where were you when we needed to redo our tricycle wagon combo for my grandchild? You do such cool work! It gorgeous.
An amazing project and by now the young one should be riding it around!
Now that's bringing back old memories of a time when kids were kids and played outside until they street lights came on. Especially nice was the adjustable seat. In the USA most of our tricycles would only adjust up and down, but now forward and back. Great looking toy and I think you should have great memories in the making.
Thank you Paul. I also felt reminded of my days on the playgrounds
Grüße gehen raus an deinen Bruder F. der mir den Kanal empfohlen hat. Echt tolle Arbeiten die du da machst.
Danke Benno. Bin froh zu hören, dass mein Bruder seinem Marketingauftrag nach kommt 😁
You transformed that into a masterpiece!
Thank you Kenneth. Glad to hear that you liked it so much
Beeeeautiful, mate. Enjoy your new nephew when he arrives.❤️🦘
As always quite great work and again a lot of new methods and tools used.
I would be really happy to receive such a great gift!
Okay I will think of something :)
What a lovely restoration ! You will be a great uncle ! And I laughed at all your jokes here ! Ian
Haha that's good to know. Im glad you had a smile
@@NTRprojects 😂👍🏼😊 dankeschön
What a spectacular restoration! It will outlast present trikes. I love the little seat and backrest. Fantastic job!
Excellent job!!! I think the only thing I would change is the back of the seat.... the exposed wood sticks out because there is no other wood showing. Covering it with the same red fabric as the seat would be perfect. As for the workmanship its fantastic
Yeah I thought about it but I personally prefer the wood. But you are absolutely right it is a noticeable difference
O...M...G... it's absolutely beautiful! When you added the Puky bell, the happy memory tears started flowing! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it so much. I absolutely love the bell and the little helmet on the puky bear!
Beautiful restoration mister good job well done
I'm glad you liked it
Oil of Wintergreen aka Methyl Salicylate will replace lost plasticizers. It has many commercial uses from restoring paper rollers in photocopier/inkjet printers to softening the tires on racing go-karts. So, it's sold from small bottles up to quart containers. I can confirm it will soften aging rubber.
Fantastic job it’s a awesome present 👍👍👍😊😊😊♥️
Remarkable and touching restoration.
Hey Doug nice to hear that you liked it so much
Fantastic job 👏👍
Thank you Mary. Glad you liked it
I love this restoration and the reason behind it. I also like that you judge a beer every video, you earned a new sub.
Hey Bill welcome aboard and sorry for late reply, I'm glad you subbed
Awesome reconstruction, nicely finished .
Thank you very much Bob!
So cute and very good job. I wish a good and happy life to new born… 🧿
thank you for saving our childhood 🐾 Beautiful work 🗜️⚒️ I really enjoyed this 20 mins with my saturday coffee ☕
What a lovely present!
Thank you Jess glad you found your way back to my little channel
We have/had Radio Flyer tricycles for many years. Popular icon here in the USA. What you did was simply magnificent. Your little nephew will love it!
Thank you Mark. I'm so happy that it was a kids toy this time. It was kind of sad to see my old memories in such a condition
Very nice, that MM channel has some serious competition now!
Thank you Felipe
the saddle is soooo NICE. awesome job.
Glad to hear that you liked the saddle so much
Das erste Mal an der Nähmaschine? Niemals! Die Sattelherstellung ist ein eigenes Video wert. Wie auch die Griffe und der Aufkleber. Wahnsinnig gut 🤯 Tolles Ergebnis.
Great job!! That little bike looks really nice :)
In Germany it was sold by Puky as "Kinderdreirad Modell B1; Baujahre 1960 - 1963" and i had mine as child in 1964. The frame with fork was completely glossy white painted, the seat was flat (foam covered cheap wooden board), covered by red sythetic leather (leatherette) with seam covering white plastic bise, was much shorter/smaller than yours and it could be adjusted on the frame with two screws for growing body size. The frontwheel fork had a smal vertical and curved red decoration line following the center sheet bead.
Wheels, pedals and handles where original on your version from white plastic ard rubber. I like your work very much but - sorry - this time i remember the original one in many details. Good luck for your next project.
A gift from the heart is always best. Great job!
Thank you. I agree
Incredible transformation! Bravo! With every project, I'm more awed by your results. 👏👍👍
Your brother must be lucky, to have big brother like you! Very nice restoration. Good job! 👍🏻😉
I agree 😁, thank you very much
Your first time sewing and you made that seat? Amazing! You have mad skills! Excellent restoration ❤️
Bravo sir, Bravo. Very, very nice work indeed. I can't think of anything I would have done differently... Thumbs Up!
Thank you very much Gary! Highly appreciated comment

Thanks bro!!!
Love this little trike.
Thank you Laura, glad you like it so much
Marvellous! A really thrilling little project and one, I’m sure, will be long beloved!
It probably won't support my weight. But I would totally take that bad boy for a spin!
What a lovely gift. Congratulations to your family, you will be the cool uncle who fixes things!
Also Goaty McGoatface was hilarious!
Your the first one to comment on Goaty :)
