Can wholeheartedly relate. I’m climbing, pulling, spinning, rolling, pushing, crawling, hopping, my way out of a ten year depression. I have pretty much failed at everything I’ve tried to be “good” at and that is why I love this movement stuff. It’s like being a kid again. Play and move that’s my mantra
I'll echo some of the things other people mentioned: spending time in nature, helping others, and remembering that you aren't alone. I also try to avoid people and things that drain my energy (including social media). Unfortunately there's a lot of difficult things in this world that we don't have control over so we need to try to do our best. I love that saying that "perfection is the enemy of progress." Thanks for this video!
O man I have been stuck like this, my heart goes out to you. Having spent almost 53 years motionless I had become a human Sea Manatee. It was when I found a small group of folks who where also trying to do better that it began to turn around for me. Don’t go it alone, there is an odd and powerful magic in going together. Walk with me towards your better days.
Two concepts I like better then motivation are focus and stages of change. Feeling motivated is a very emotionally charged state, and if you're depressed or anxious or hesitant the motivated feeling will not be there. Instead just practice focus, if you keep the next step in your mind until it is done then you will move forward. The other part is stages of change since some steps are too large to take on immediately so instead recognize if you are in a pre-action step like pre-contemplation or contemplation. Do not feel dejected that you are not ready to act just cultivate the thoughts and intention. Then focus and take action and take on the next step. If you keep at this with many things you will find that motivated emotion sometimes but it won't be required for you to do things since you have focus.
Love this. I was stuck in a bottomless well of apathy and I remember thinking I needed to find something new, interesting, and challenging to kickstart my willpower. I'd tried repeatedly to stick to a routine and set goals but then inevitably lost interested. Then I found movement and you. The first time you showed me how to do the most basic of all locomotion moves (crab) and then had me hold a chest-to-wall handstand when I had never done an inversion before in my life, I was hooked. It's been several years now and I can do things I never thought I could do before. Movement has given me a sense of fulfillment. I've learned perfection is a trap and I've (mostly) learned to appreciate the little improvements I make every day. I think learning (and seeing) that progress happens slowly, steadily is what keeps me motivated.
Spot on… Also, if you have any slightest urge to do something (healthy or at least not damaging), no matter how weird it is, give it a try. Society has so many “norms” that many people (myself included) often think pursuing what our mind and body are calling out for us to do, is wrong… Listen to your mind and body, they will undoubtedly lead you down a better path.
great video. the number 1 thing i tell people to get motivation is to change life style completly like stop drinking alcohol, smoking weed, going plant base, change job even if temporary and shity job. just like experiencing something new.
Going into nature, getting sunlight and having even just one good male mentor or friend helps immensely. Figure out just one thing you have drive, desire and obsession for; work towards that.
Great video. Thank you. Helping others and having a purpose will help. Using the things you are good at to help other people is really inspiring which, I believe, keeps you continually motivated, energized, and more focused. Also developing will power is important. It helps you recognize the thoughts that take away your motivation. The thoughts that tell you what is the point of doing this or I can exercise later or tomorrow. Those are the thoughts that are lying to you. That is also one of the reasons to meditate. You become aware of the self sabotaging thoughts you may not have realized were there. Thanks again for this video. I found it very helpful.
Finding a good coach who motivates you to go to classes and tries to help you remove the excuses you make for yourself. Like, if all your clothes are hidden somewhere in boxes after a recent move, "the coach" calls and tells you to go to the class with whatever you have on, maybe not only if "you're wearing a Tuxedo"! :D
Secondly I isolated myself by only working out outside rather than in the gym, one of my best decisions I became so confident and completely in control of myself emotionally and physically because you don’t feel judged or in competition with others.
Bren that was beautiful 😻 The only thing I would add is this: try news things, try doing stuff you’ve always wanted to do and never got quite round to doing. Try being the someone you want to be - fake it until you develop new habits. Apparently 27 days is all it takes for a new “thing” to become a habit.
Wow great letter felt like he was talking about me. My motivation comes in small spurts but I started rucking with weights and everything changed my will power increased and my confidence. As well as feeling good.
Consistency is key the first steps are always the hardest and also enjoying what your doing without stressing yourself. Walking I would recommend to everyone in the world best motivated especially into beautiful scenic places or where there is a lot of nature trees ect
Best advise for depression for me is put your iPod or earphones on and listen to something you love and walk into the nature of the world or climbing or hiking really does wonders for will power
These are symptoms of Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, which is not about naughty boys running around a classroom. It's a brain dysfunction that over time eats away at a person's self-worth. Tons of info out there. Perfect advice for him and me. I have it.
One thing is I will say (stole this from mark manson) often times we think motivation leads to action but arguably it’s more like action leads to motivation. And please stick with the therapy, you really do sound depressed. God bless
When I am lacking motivation, I find it really helpful to look for something where I can get rapid feedback or an easy win. For example working through practice multiple choice questions in "tutor" mode where I will immediately find out (question by question) if I answered right or wrong, and with an explanation provided. In contrast, working through a 20 question test and not having any feedback until the end would take me a lot more willpower and activation energy.

we basically attract what we do, we should enjoy it and be thankful, being thankful is key.
This is an interesting thought

100%- I totally agree :).

ahahah. Removing excuses/ adding motivation to train is very important. Sounds like a great coach ;).

Thank you for putting this into the world. It is very helpful.
Thank you my friend, very glad to hear it :).
I feel exactly like the person in the reddit post, I appreciate it😂
I think we all do sometimes- but only the tougher ones can admit it ;).
Motivation is a fleeting moment often mistaken in place of excitement- only discipline exists

Can I ask how you were able to afford all of Ido's training?
Ha! By spending all of my money on it! Also from teaching movement.
Omg, I needed this. Ty!

It would be very good a video of what you eat in a day!!
I would seriously tell that person to look into adult ADHD and see if that is something a therapist can focus on to help them.
One thing is I will say (stole this from mark manson) often times we think motivation leads to action but arguably it’s more like action leads to motivation. And please stick with the therapy, you really do sound depressed. God bless
Thanks Cameron! I totally agree, and I think both can be true and they feed off of each other :).
You read SA ❤
I want to become your student 😂
HEY....I'm a "fucking man-child" also...and I'm a 60 year old woman! heeheheee
its just dopamine detoxing thats what you need to do stop browsing reddit
