- Vagabond is one of my favorite manga I've ever read so it only makes sense that I make a video on looking at the incredible development of the characters. Failure was a prominent theme within the manga and I decided that this would be the heart of the video. Like a lot of people, I initially had no interest in Matahachi, but after completing the manga, that perception changed completely.
These videos take a ton of time to make so it would be the world to me if you subscribed. For the next video, I’m thinking of shifting towards analyzing slice of life anime/manga.

Lets be honest tho, wether you love or hate matahachi. In the end matahachi is basically the reflection of trueself. A coward, a person who fears failing, a person who compares themself to others. Even tho i love musashi, matahachi is by far the most relatable character for me

I adored Matahatchi while reading Vagabond, he keeps trying, keeps failing. I was pretty bummed out when i found out how much of the fanbase fucking hate him.
I think the general consensus around Matahachi is that he was hated at the start, but most people who have caught up to Vagabond appreciate the development of Matahachi. Def one of my fav chars though

I'm still going through vagabond and got to the point where his mom died and he is staying at the monastary and when theres a time skip to him being old telling stories but i can feel his redemption coming ill comment this back when i caught up but for now i still kinda hate matahachi
Failing and being a disappointment were the reasons why I hated Matahachi at first.
But once Matahachi accepted that it’s ok to fail as long as he kept trying, that’s when I appreciated his character.
You know in real life, people don't give care or even value or respect those who tried or fought his battles,they only value those who are successful,won,etc.

I'm guessing the reason why everyone hates Matahachi is ironically because of exactly what Musashi says "what you see if a reflection of yourself". I hated him too. This video put all of that hate into perspective. I despised him because of how much I see myself in him. I've felt all he's felt and reacted the same way, pathetically. I cried watching this video because it made me understand Matahachi purpose in the world. He's the human analog to all the inhumans that Musashi meets. It's not satisfying, coming to recognize you will never reach the impossible heights of the Musashis in your own life, but being hung up on that frustration only hinders your progress to anything even close to your dreams. Wonderful video man ❤️
Good stuff, Matahachi is a fantastic character and I'm disappointed people always hate on him. I also can't hate his mother too. Yes she is annoying at parts but I can't hate her.

Matahachi is one of my favourite characters in vagabond I relate a bit to him like his inferiority complex a little and all in all enjoy his character he’s just phenomenal

Matahatchi idealized Mushashi to degrees mushashi himself didnt even live up too until years later, for most of the story mushashi was a mentally warped character with a dream fueled by his own insecurities born from an emotionally abusive father. Something he had to let go to not only progress into real strength ini swordsmanship but also mentally which in turn made him a better person and swordsman as the mind and body are one.
Matahatchi would have became strong had he realized he lacked the resolve to be the strongest swordsman but not because he was weak but because he did not want to make the necessary sacrifices for that dream. Being the strongest in it of itself holds little value in the grandios of life as you cant take anything, not even your title to the grave, I mean mushashi gave up on the women he loved, sacrificed a peaceful life whom he himself really found value in the farming arc to chase this ideal of the best killer.
the message is that dont compare yourselves to others and their accomplishments because the sacrifices made to get there may not be worth it. There is no right or wrong in how you want to live your life but live it to where you have little regrets about the outcome and be able to accept who you are and where you end up.
Great work man the editing and music are perfect without forgetting the analysis of the character which is on point. keep it up

Amazing job on this one man, definitely one of the best analysis videos I've seen done on Vagabond, its by far my favorite manga of all time purely for all its themes of philosophy and such, if possible I'd like to see you do more Vagabond related content, anyway you earned a sub for this one

Nice video man this really made me appreciate Matahachi that I never though off or had before.
I relate and most likely like Matahachi and Musashi way more than I do Sasaki, That is the truth and I really like this video
I was born with a weaker body than most if not all of the people I met its horrible since one of the main things that matter in society, specially in the sort of country I am in, Truth is physical strenght is what people will actually take you in mind for and if you dont have it for a lot of people you will be nothing, And this is specially why I love Matahachi as a character, He is more realistic sure, He can suffer from anxiety, and fails over and over, and a lot of people hate him for his bad actions, but these are things that everyone at one point commits and despite that Matahachi kept reaching for the top for 90% of the manga trying to overcome all of said issues even if it was by means that werent good (impersonating Sasaki) he kept getting up, In a way in ways like how I keep going to the gym trying to overcome my weak body, only to get hit by reality again when someone who never touched a dumbell in his life performs a physical task better than I do or beats me in something that requires physical strenght, It surely is a lost cause for me to do any of this but I do it anyways in an unwavering way, Much like Matahachi despite his bad choices and putting himself down did
Matahachi is a "Failure" A failure that tries to be strong, and that probably makes him to a certain point strong, Much like his Mother said to him.

We have to accept that we're losers in order to win. Throughout the whole story he was a loser, until he accepted he really was a loser, he accepted himself. Now he can start thinking about winning as an option.

Honestly people are so hard on Matahachi. Like, the dude never had a guide who will teach him the right path. Freaking Musashi had Takuan, the Bald Monk, Shishido Baiken I think, the other old man whose sword was from Heaven and Earth, Takuan again, the old man from the farm, a shitton of life advice and yet, he seems to never grasp the whole point.

yea, you should definitely check it out once you read it. However, I don't think you can "actually spoil" anything that happens in Vagabond. The manga focuses more on development than plot-wise. Also, Matahachi is a side char with like 20 chaps out of 300 lol.

I don't think he could've. It's just part of his character and the fact that he never fully committed to his dream
Nah i like Musashi more as a character becuase i can relate to him more then i can relate to Matahachi.
Learning to let go of my anger is something i'm still struggling with but reading Vagabond and more specifically Musashis parts has definitely helped.

I've just started reading this week vagabond I'm on chp 250 at the moment. My problem is that he doesn't change, he always cuts corners, he lies to himself and others, is too attached to the past, he just take L'S and L's after L'S... and so on. Takezo even if stubborn asks himself questions, he fails so many times, but still he improves, he goes beyond what is expected of him. No I cannot understand how you can like someone like that I'm sorry xD

Vagabond has the best cast of characters in manga IMO. Musashi, Baiken, Kojiro, Denschiro, Matahachi,Shusaku,Jisai,Itto, Takuan and Inshun are all phenomenal characters
there is no dull character in vagabond

I red the first 7 chapters or something but I think it´s not for me. Why are so almost every characters in manga under 18 and get sexualized. Thats so weird, I like the art from Vagabond though
