Such a great song. Wow! . . . This music is timeless. . . So much feeling and emotion in this song. . . They just don't make music like this anymore. . . They don't. . . I miss the 80s. . . Thank you. . . Thank you. . . Thank you. . .
¡Uffff!...que bien volver a escucharlos !. Compré ese disco en la calle 19 ,centro de Bogotá,vinilo nacional,en 1985,creo...ya vuelvo, voy a corroborar en que año fué....
One 4th of July Martha had a big party in the Ventura hills north of downtown and you could hear it for miles I climbed up the ravine and got in for about a minute before I got kicked out! Oh well
toxic relationships and years long of older useless lonelyness sukz azz 😢 but.. u find strength here and ther that quick guitar and sax solo always on point even in 2023 🎸🎷 this song ends too quick but is necessarry at the same time relations start slow then cut and end fast into painful history
This is about the ONLY live recording of this song from when it was new in the early 80's. Little bit beat up old footage but PRICELESS. She sounds so good it took about a full minute before I could really hear a clue that it was INDEED LIVE.
It's not live, the music is canned, maybe her voice is live but watch the drummer at the 1:20 mark, the music plays a quick snare roll and a crash, but he doesn't do a roll, just keeps on his ride cymbal but his left snare hand never does a roll, I believe the music is the original recording no live for this reason.
Hmmm, I guess Capital Records USA didn't have enough money laying around to put the "REAL" Motels guys on the plane with Martha! These "ghost" musicians did a fair job, but not like the bonafide Motel Men would've done!
Indeed; lip syncing. A bit of history here: I once saw an interview of The Motels in 1982, featured on The Merv Griffin Show...and indeed...ALL FOUR Motel fellas were there, including second keyboardist Scott Thurston...and Martha Davis said to Merv that the execs at Capital, in order to "$ave money", would fly only her around the USA and abroad to 'do promotion' for "Only The Lonely" and the "All For One" album, but would purposely leave the other boys behind, to keep the budget at an all time low...hence, the "pick-up/instrument-syncer bands" as we saw here, would fill in. They did a marginal job...gotta give them, or the producer of the TV program, some credit for that...but notice VERY LITTLE CAMERA TIME was spent on the "imposter-guys". Indeed...no Marty Jourard (main keys/sax), Michael Goodroe (bass), Brian Glascock (drums), Guy Perry...AKA...Adrian Peritore (guitar) & Scott Thurston (2nd keys) here!!! NO WAY!!! Hence (again) that is why I posted this: ua-cam.com/video/no8ZRIKm6UE/v-deo.html ...back in 2012...this here MOTELS "Only The Lonely" TV video from SOLID GOLD...featuring ALL The Motels! (...minus Scott Thurston on the back-up keyboards...he came in just a wee bit later on their leg of live touring of late 1982..) So...there you have it boys & girls...we learn something new everyday...a little bit of history...that no one really cares about anymore...from over a million years ago! BCRadio
@@BolsaChicaRadio The Solid Gold "performance" is also not live. Only a few TV shows had bands perform live - SNL, Letterman, Leno, and a couple other late night talk shows like Dennis Miller and Jon Stewart.
@@dowens3781 You're Right! Totally, 100%! SOLID GOLD was chiefly done in "Lip Sync Mode", that was WAY obvious. Since I was in the broadcasting field myself for many years, I know about some "production tid-bits" regarding that industry. SOLID GOLD had an EXTREMELY large budget, executive producers had PLENTY OF MONEY to hire L.A.'s best "Live Mix-Down Engineers", or even live record the performance on 24 track tape and "edit it & fix it" in post-production before broadcast date, however, the main endeavor with the concept of SOLID GOLD, was for the "viewer" to "HEAR" the SAME EXACT ARRANGEMENT, VERSION & RECORDING that one "HEARS" on their radios and "HEARS" on their record & cassette players. Not just "familiarity", but "EXACT DUPLICATION". In closing, SNL, Letterman, Leno...and even early live on-stage syndicated concert programs like Burt Sugarman's "MIDNIGHT SPECIAL" & Don Kirshner's "IN CONCERT", prided themselves on mostly ALL LIVE performances; that was their VERY successful trademark; that was their coined production platform...SOLID GOLD's however, was always "EXACT PERFECTION, BY SYNCHRONIZATION". The best decade for music.

Martha is amazing I just love this song
She is great and the guitar and sax jam 😎
Martha smoldering-away in her loneliness. A tremendous talent, that's for sure..
Her broken-hearted way of singing these sad tunes is hypnotic. What a woman. So sexy.
She's about 31 years old here too.
¡Uffff!...que bien volver a escucharlos !.

Lip sync
Not live.
the audio is only on 2 channels, my front left, and my center. The other 5 channels there's nothing
check out the official video of this song .
Wanna show the entire guitar during the solo next time there, Sparky?
Ps. The original song is good and there is no high end note on the original...the redone version, this one, I have to say, AMAZING.
Martha was a total sex goddess in the early-to-mid 80's.
who is playing the keys during the sax solo - since the sax player was the keyboard player?
Lemón deRangello programs music patterns my friend
Damn Martha🖤💜🍑 yes I love you
Martha is up their with Madonna blondie
Always thought it was, "Only the lonely get laid."

I'd always rather see an actual live performance, flaws and all - that's what rock 'n' roll is all about.
Ignored this band back then. My tastes have expanded. Personally their hits for me are my least favorite songs of theirs
Awesome
