For the life of me I don't know why this wasn't a bigger hit. Loved this band especially the first couple albums. And the they did get those hits, lol!😁😎😍
I wonder if there is footage of when they were on the 1979 OGWT , I remember them playing Total Control and went to see them soon after at Manchester Polytechnic and at the Poly again in 1980, great times!
fraid that's never gonna happen. used to be we had radio to filter out the crap and make us listen to stuff we wouldn't otherwise and open our minds. now everyone just hits their little computerized device to hit them with what they want now.
@TheMaidofMiddleEarth I agree it’s not all bad, but it’s not as creative. Because of political correctness and cancel culture no one is pushing boundaries. And forgot about people getting together and playing actual instruments playing off each other. Now there is just one or two people and a laptop, pro tools and auto tune.
This was great..1st song was very angular, post punk but still catchy..a bit of Holly and the Italians vibe. The 2nd song was wild..the ending reminded me of Remake Remodel by Roxy Music.
Great performance by the motels singing envy OK from the album careful capital records broadcast from bbc Manchester this episode features a live session by the dire straits playing a track from there album making movies vertigo records al
Envy became my favorite song on all 4 one. Used to make good money and had to much time on my hands. A doobie, some wine and my walkman with the motels playing. Good stuff.
The Motels , what a great band, they áre a mix between Blondie and the Cars. Great and beatiful songs.
Martha had the best sounding voice of the 'new wave' era.. such a natural + she was a total fox back in the day!!

so much radio-time competition in the early 80's. Tons of great music coming out. Good times.

Good to hear they had a British following
please please please can modern popular music take a few lessons from stuff of this era!
Agreed! 👌

@TheMaidofMiddleEarth it’s just very hard to find
@TheMaidofMiddleEarth i love the motels. that's it. I was born in 1960. I have nothing in common with a guy born in 1946. labels suck

Martha Davis. What a sultry voice..
classic Motels,baby!
Feels contemporary, like it could have been filmed last week not in 1980!
Real music for real people!
MARTHA DAVIS WOW!!!! MOTELS 🌹
The Motels were SO “new wave” before their big hits came. I didn’t realize just how much til I saw this.
I remember seeing this and buying the record, always one of my favourites. Thanks for uploading it.
I love this! Raw, simple , unique, talent!!
I saw them play this on a different show and what magic this is, that keyboard player is going off! Love this whole band! Incredible!
That keyboard player is Marty Jourard. He also plays saxophone. I believe he still tours with Martha. Catch a gig sometime. You won’t be disappointed.
@@TugandChuck3209 There's nothing like early Motels, Thanks for your reply!

Agreed. The John Carter produced LP Careful holds a lot of value with me, with their debut album holding equal merit.
J'adore la voix de Martha Davis
i saw them live in london in 1980 amazing
Raw Sounding Right!
I had such a crush on her in the early 80s and looking back I guess I did have a good taste😅😝
Gorgeous 🌹 & rocks!!!

Excellent tight sound.

Gwen Stefani certainly borrowed from Martha for her vocal sound.
We girls all had a pleather belt like hers in a variety of colors.

@@ianwright7153 i was in the middle east. Everything was boot legged. Some knuckle head recorded the tape with the add on.
Great to see some live footage of Tim McGovern singing, too.
Just as good as Today
4EVER Martha Davis tells the story of Real Life ❤
Got to cover Envy. Song needs to be rediscovered.

I'm thinking another name for the song "envy," could be "paranoia." 🤔
¡ Thanks !!

Martha!!!!
I love her guitar.
That there is a Mighty Mite Megazone, probably custom built for her by the Zacuto brothers and Phil Kubicki.
