A good review. BTW the 4th base reviewed is the offset base, so the cutter is offset from the centre of the tool. Also, you can buy every variant of tool and accessories, with or without case, bag 🙂👍

Very good comprehensive, look at the DRT. Thank you! I’ve also watched your strap LOL video which was helpful indeed having not actually use the router ever before and bought the same kit as you have. When is part two out?
I think that Makita should be sending you the dust extraction kit, so you can do a review of that as well. (I also use my vacuum cleaner, Charles rather than Henry., at least it’s blue like the Makita stuff a little bit ;-))

Hi. I know the trim router allows for 6,8, or 1/4 collet size. Being metric, have you used a 6.35mm and know if this would work? BTW, DRT50ZJX3 is the same here for NZ and Aus versions.

Nice. I looked long, how should I add the copy sleeve with regular base. And in your video you explained fast and well. Propably will not get the makita. Tnx

Hey thanks for the video! I ordered this from Amazon Warehouse at a good price, it arrived with the carboard bit which you have your bit set etc in empty and I was wondering was something missing. Your walk through of everything that's included was great to check off that I did actually get everything :)
Now I need a bit set, but I'm not sure if mine is 6mm or 6.35 (1/4 inch). Some of the reviews on the Amazon link said it's 6.35 but some said 6. Is there any way to tell? I also tried to use what I think were 8mm bits with the 8mm collet attachment, but they wouldn't keep in place on tightening even though they appeared to be a good fit. I've very little experience with routers.
Looking for an affordable bit set, what made you go with the Trend one over others which had more bits and maybe were cheaper?

Hello, the specification states 6-8mm (metric), 1/4-3/8 (imperial). It's possible some makes of bit may vary very slightly within this range, but they should all still fit this collet. I went for the Trend kit because that the time, I got a very cheap deal off Ebay I think, and it was a well-known leading brand (I didn't know much about bits at the start either). They're ok for a starter kit. I've since bought bits individually when I needed a different one. For several jobs, I've bought budget "Silverline" bits. They work fine for a cheapie but eventually go blunt unless the Trend bits. My advice- buy a starter kit (6-12 pieces)- you will get to know which bits you use more often, then buy a quality one singly.

@@tomreviews9668 thanks for the reply! I ended up going with a "VonHaus 35 Pc Router Bits Set - TCT Tungsten Carbide Tipped Accessories Set Kit - 6.35mm (1/4") Shank Fittings" set. I figured since the bigger collet included with the Makita was too big for the 8mm bits I had, it must be the 3/8 inch collet, so the other one must be the 1/4 inch one.
My new set should be delivered tomorrow so I'll know for sure then :)

@@CormacOSheehan @Tom Reviews I’m sure it’s a 6mm (and 8mm) collet cone in the kit, so I’ve ordered a ¼” bit for the Trend bits.

@@adsmail thanks for the reply Adam, I can confirm I was mistaken, the 8mm bits did actually fit with the included larger collet, so it was 8mm, and the 1/4 bits I ordered didn't fit the included smaller collet (6mm), so I ordered a 1/4 makita collet (product ID Makita 763637). I'm in Ireland and the best place to order was here: www.handyhardware.ie/Makita-763637-1-Trimmer-Collet-Cone-635mm-_p_78811.html
