  • About six months ago I purchased a 10 piece combo kit of Makita Cordless power tools and thought I'd unbox and review each of them for anyone who is doing some market research on what tools to buy!
    Here's a link to the combo kit unboxing and a review on the charger & batteries - • Makita 18V Brushless L...
    Here are links to other tools from this kit I have reviewed..
    DGA504 Angle Grinder - • Makita Cordless 125mm ...
    DHS680 Circular Saw - • Makita Cordless DHS680...
    I am not sponsored in any way by Makita and receive no benefit from anyone for doing this review.
    If you wish to support my channel by purchasing through one of my Amazon links below, that would be very much appreciated - but certainly not the aim of this video. I won't give links for any product that I wouldn't buy myself :)

    Also, I now have an Amazon storefront where I share links to assorted tools & equipment I use and recommend. As well, I'll be adding links for various supplies and products used in my videos as time goes on. Even if you purchase something on Amazon totally unrelated after entering through one of my links, it really helps support my channel with a small commission.. and it costs you nothing extra at all! 😊👍

      Thanks Martin! I plan to leave mistakes in when they happen as I feel other beginners like to see the pitfalls! Not that I'm going to intentionally make mistakes!! 😆

    Ive got 2 routers, one giant "handheld" from the 90's with two handles on the sides. And a second one about half that size mounted in a little table.
    I don't have much occasion to use them.
    But when I do I am usually pleased with the results.
    I like the looks of that little one. I use a dremmel with router attachment for most of my small jobs.
    So I didn't think I needed one like yours.
    But your video sure has me thinking on purchasing one again.

      I'm not sure how much use I will actually have for it Kayle, but I am very happy with the job it has done for the dim bulb thing I'm making!

    A key to safe and smooth routing is to take incremental cuts. The typical recommendation is not more than 1/8 inch (3 mm) at a time. So make the first cut with the bit extended only a little and extend more and more over several passes. This is especially prudent for the big bit you were using. Also, best practice usually entails routing against the rotation of the bit. There are cases where one routes in the direction of rotation (called a climb cut), but that is not usual. Also, when putting the bit into the collet, do not let it bottom out. The curved portion of the shank should be just above the collet in order that a good clamping action can be achieved.

    Without the size limiter on the trimmer base some rubberneck is gonna shove a large molding profile bit in there and just stop out that tiny motor. Luckily Makita has overload protection on most of their tools.
    I just got a roof on my shop I can't wait to try out the routers I have.

      Yep, I agree - a small trimmer shouldn't be asked to use large bits! 👍

    We have one in our tech workshop at school. They’re very handy. I have the dewalt version. Equally good.

    Somewhere I read Chris, that most workshop accidents are with routers. Just take care.

    One instruction I’ve heard repeatedly is to pull the bit out just a tad, before tightening collet, to allow for bit expansion. Just thought I’d pass that on.
    Totally agree on the novice approach to reviewing.
    Thanks for your review.

    The square footplate wasn't included by accident. You can take off the round footplate and put the square one on for a bit more stability and control.

    The vertical edge of the router bit should not be visible below the face of the router base, I think, Chris? The way it cut the rounded edge seemed wrong...

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  11 місяців тому

      I'm not sure on that. The vertical edge had a cutting edge, so I figured it was part of the molding shape? 🤔

    Technically speaking they are a “laminate trimmer” not a router 😀 most carpenters use them for trenching hinges.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  11 місяців тому

      Yes I think I heard it referred to as a laminate trimmer, but not sure it said that on the box! They would be great for doing hinges 👍😊

  • @rickmoore
    @rickmoore 11 місяців тому

    It is called a trim router, so only useful for detail/trim work. Lower power than a "full size" router, and probably not even powerful enough for those bits that are "too large" to fit through the base.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  11 місяців тому

      Yes Rick, I was thinking the same. Much more suited to small delicate work 😊👍

    Why do you keep saying something should or should not be included when you said yourself you've never used a router :/ The accessories you think are useless are extremely useful.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  3 місяці тому

      Clearly I'm unsure what all the accessories are for or how they are used - I'm sure I'll discover how useful they are over time! Unpacking and trying to work things out on camera when unsure promotes good discussions in the comments where people can learn more 👍 Thanks for watching 😊

    Als je een review doet over een machine als deze, bereid je dan eerst voor ipv te filmen en alles maar uit te proberen. Zorg dat je alle ins en outs kent. Een review als deze heeft helaas geen enkele toegevoegde waarde!

      Just like a table saw once it's on it needs a separate button press to shut it off. I'll take nasty gash from a router over a table saw injury any day.

    • @TheUltimateRecycler
      @TheUltimateRecycler  11 місяців тому +1

      I think I'll opt for no injuries from any power tools, if that is an option? 😊
