Funny how many people refer to historic accuracy in terms of the gripen being inferior to F16 or F15 or Su27... Lets review some historical facts about what the Gripen is capable of: Gripen first participated in Red Flag 2006 with the Gripen A. It was assigned to the red team. Reduced AWACS, reduced ground support. The Gripens connected their link systems and acted themselves as AWACs, got the battlefield awareness necessary and avoided all ground defence, scored 10 kills the first day including a Typhoon. No losses they remained undetected. One Gripen pilot knocked down five F-16 block 50+ during close air combat in Red Flag Alaska. And the Gripens never lost any aerial encounter or failed their mission objectives. It was the only fighter that performed all planed starts, while others were sitting on the ground waiting for the weather to clear up. The evaluation was that Gripen capacity needed to be revaluated. And no disrespect to any other fighters, including Norwegian pilots because they’re just as well trained, but during a combat exercise with the Royal Norwegain Air Force, 3 Swedish Gripens went up against 5 RNAF F-16’s. The Result was 5-0, 5-0, 5-1 after having flown 3 rounds. During Loyal Arrow in Sweden, 3 F-15C’s from the USAF were intercepted by a Gripen acting as an aggressor. The result was 2 F-15’s shot down and one managed to escape due to better thrust/weight. To the F-15s defence it was on the Gripens back yard. F-16 has a higher TWR [thrust to weight ratio], but one need to consider drag and wing loading too. The Gripen has much lower drag. And far lower wing loading. It can reach supersonic speeds on dry thrust while carrying a full armament of four AMRAAM’s two Sidewinders and an external fuel tank. Even though the Gripen lacks the TWR of the F-16 it can nearly match it in climb rate thanks to low drag. The Gripen is among the most underestimated fighters flying today, during the Libyan campaign it came in as a tactical resource but very soon was upgraded to a strategic resource. Also here, no mission was cancelled due to technical issues on the Gripen. And no, it is not invincible, just underestimated. The F-15 can stay out of a fight with a Gripen, keep it on distance, BVR if they can see it and avoid the meteors, but it is not a wise strategy to engage. The latest JAS-39 variant is the Gripen E that is a new fighter aircraft system. The E-series has a new and more powerful engine, improved range performance and the ability to carry greater payloads. The E-series redefines air power for the 21st century by extending operational capabilities. Gripen E looks just like a Gripen but it is a completely new fighter, with completely new features and capabilities more or less only comparable to the F-35 with the difference that Gripen E is not built with stealth technology even if it has a lower RCS than any other fighter except F-35 and F-22 and probably but not certain, the Russian and Chinese stealth. delta wings are highly maneuverable and will have the advantage in a 1 circle turn however the downside being that it will deplete all its energy and will probably loose to a f16 which is very maneuverable at low speed unlike deltas
@@michaelbuckley497 and that's wrong, a classic delta wing will lose all its energy, not a close coupled delta-canard, besides jets like mirage 2000 and gripen are still manouvrable at low speed. if delta is a guaranted energy loss then why the eurofighter is probably the best energy fighter on the planet? (excluding F-22)
the reason why M4K is cancelled not because nobody wanted it, but because the M4K estimated production and operational cost are too expensive. This is why they opt for just modernize the M2K which leads to M2K-5F. Real life meta can't be compared to in-game meta tbh. IMHO, the reason why M4K are great because it's literally M2K slapped with twin engine while maintaining a good TWR and good fuel efficiency (which F-15 and Su-27 don't have). But tbh, I'd think Gripen will still outclass M4K due to its small size. The smaller your aircraft, the high your survivalbility. While the twin engine suffers from a big heat signature, which is a great food for IR Missile with IRCCM. Rat fighter are the true meta of Air Battle in War Thunder, this is why the F-5 are still the best fighter in its BR.
4:10 i disagree a bit, Skyflash(E2) is bad compared to R27, AIM7-F/M and R24. But at the end, is very nice have at least 2 radar missiles that just IR missiles, the advantage of being unflarable and very deadly at close range, brings some easy kills. I play Phantom GR1 a lot, almost always uptiered to 12.0 or 12.3, but i have a nice KD of 2.1 thanks to Skyflash, no matter what jet i face, if i fly low, lock, and launch around 2-6km, is a kill if enemy dont fly very close to ground too.
So yes the rb 71s aren't the best radar missile in the game but i still get a decent amout of kills with them, honestly i get about the same amount of radar missile kills as i get heat kills, too many people equip just flares, not enough equip chaff, fewer run both flare and chaff, radar missles atm are still very valid
F-16C comparison to the new jets, I wanna know if the insane time investment of grinding modules for the block 40 will be worth it or if I should focus on the F-15
F15 has basically the same armament as the f16 but you can carry 2 more 7ms but only 4 9ms while the F16C can carry 6 9ms, has a better radar and better FM. For now, i'd recommend you to stick with the F16C and wait till they add the f15c with amraams.
Well it can almost do mach 1 in a 20 degree climb with a full load, and the weapons it has are already on other planes in the game that do well. So it should do just fine. Not to mention the 720 countermeasures. If you really want to see some A -> G action check out "hunter". Idk if he has a vid on the gripen, but he will eventually.
Gaijin will pull things out of their ass when they feel like it. Just like they did with the Japanese F16. American mains, Italians, and French asking for actual amour for their tanks (especially the Abrams' hull armor) while citing dozens of sources and Gaijin rejects them.
@@jfv2312 The Swedish used 9Ms, they just didnt change the designation for the somewhat minor seeker head improvements. I think adding the M in brackets after RB 74 is a reasonable way to differentiate them, since historically they would both just be called Rb 74s by the Swedish, and that might be a bit confusing in game
Honestly sometimes I wish I had E2 sparrows on my f-16. 7Ms feel like they lack any internal guidance and proximity fuse is also not as strong as on 7E2.
I'm pretty sure that's mostly in your head since outside of the booster (which has a more powerful initial burst + a sustainer) and the speed at which guidance activates (for the E2 it goes from 0 to 100 the second it hits 0.8 seconds, for the F/M it ramps up, reaching 100 at 1.1 seconds) they're the same.
Unless you are shooting sparrows within gun range, the 7f will pull harder because it can sustain itself while the e2 runs out of booster and every maneuver severly kills its speed
@@cookiecraze1310 E-2 was better when the 7F was first added (I think in Winged Lions), but it's been buffed repeatedly (now it pulls as hard as the E-2 does but faster and doesn't have the overcorrection issues)

F15 any better now? Im going to be quite disappointed if it stays a wing ripping Bus compared to what the Su27,Gripen, and M4k have going on right now.
As of this morning when I played the Baz it felt a lot better, I could be wrong but it felt like it’s roll is better and it’s wings didn’t rip once out of the ten or so latched I played.
Well they’re pretty different missiles across the board. How different in effectiveness? Not that much, they’re both good missiles and very effective. How different are they statistically/feel? A lot.
Yeah the Gripen's FM is definitely bugged. If you put it in full real and do a *purely* aileron roll, the entire plane does a cobra and flatspin. Just from rolling alone, no rudder or elevator inputs.
Britain helped SAAB build the Gripen, it was called the SAAB-BAe systems gripen but BAe removed its name after it got caught money laundering in Africa to save Gripens reputation.
not sure why you think it should be changed. it should would out perform the f16a irl and of all the current jets be the best dogfighter alongside the m4000.why should the f16a be the best dogfighter in the game?
The F16 is over performing as well, too much AOA. That being said, the Gripen is more egregious tho. It has a meer 12 degrees/second sustained turn rate at 3000m. It also only has a thrust to weight of about .86 on 1/2 tank of gas. This obviously is nothing like it is in WT, where the Gripen out performs almost every plane right now.
M4K might be just a little over performing in the rate fight imo. While it definitely would have the strongest nose authority out of the majority of (if not all) jets in game due to its delta wing design, dedicated rate fighters such as the F-16, should be able to beat it in the 2 circle. The F-15 should also most probably out rate the M4K given that both aircrafts are in their peak rate speeds. I’d say in the current state, the M4K just might be a little over performing, but the monstrous engines and disgusting nose authority make it an absolute menace. Definitely looking forward to seeing this, as well as the Gripen, on the live server
Its so funny as a real life JAS-39 pilot to hear a overconfident man talking shit about it lol. The F-16 is like a brick compared to the gripen IRL, and its the best non vectoring dogfighter IRL right now.
Rafale and Eurofighter just eat the gripen in a dogfight, they get the same manoeuvrability if not better and come with more power. Gripen is just a F16 with canards
I mean if this was a dedicated simulator, I get it. But this is war thunder, a video game loosely based on real life, more or less “inspired” by the real life counter parts. :)
Technically the 4000 don’t even exist only 1 was made and it was a cancelled project in the 80s and never saw sorties. If they’re adding prototypes to France as compensation for it being shit then every tech tree should get prototype subtrees.
those stats are stationary 10000 kgf is very much possible irl every stat they show you are stationary about engine every engine outperforms their stationary thrust based on weather and spee+altitude 10k kgf is very normal for 2 compressor on 1 engine

I believe I saw you in game on Saturday
So yes the rb 71s aren't the best radar missile in the game but i still get a decent amout of kills with them, honestly i get about the same amount of radar missile kills as i get heat kills, too many people equip just flares, not enough equip chaff, fewer run both flare and chaff, radar missles atm are still very valid
5:55 Dang bro you had to throw that one in there 😭

F-16C comparison to the new jets, I wanna know if the insane time investment of grinding modules for the block 40 will be worth it or if I should focus on the F-15
So far on the Dev server, my F16C has not been a disappointment. It's still a formidable machine.
F15 has basically the same armament as the f16 but you can carry 2 more 7ms but only 4 9ms while the F16C can carry 6 9ms, has a better radar and better FM. For now, i'd recommend you to stick with the F16C and wait till they add the f15c with amraams.
Can you do a video with the gripen doing ground attack I want to see how it does in that but no one is posting videos on that
Well it can almost do mach 1 in a 20 degree climb with a full load, and the weapons it has are already on other planes in the game that do well. So it should do just fine. Not to mention the 720 countermeasures.
If you really want to see some A -> G action check out "hunter". Idk if he has a vid on the gripen, but he will eventually.
Yes, the Gripen getting the AIM-9M is very strange, there is not much about further modifications of Swedish Rb 74 missiles, doesn't make much sense.
Gaijin will pull things out of their ass when they feel like it. Just like they did with the Japanese F16.
American mains, Italians, and French asking for actual amour for their tanks (especially the Abrams' hull armor) while citing dozens of sources and Gaijin rejects them.
I know that the gripen can use the AIM-9X, there's no reason it can't have the AIM-9M, gameplay trumps realism if realism makes the game un-fun
@@downwindfish1 then call it AIM-9M in game, there wasn't such thing as a Rb 74M
@@downwindfish1 then call it AIM-9M in game, there wasn't such thing as a Rb 74M
Can't wait for the gripen to be good for 2 weeks and then turbo nerf like the Viggen ZzZ
@@HighRiskV if you're shooting within gun range it's better aswell since the 7F/M can pull of the rail at least slightly whereas the 7E2 won't pull at all for 0.8 seconds, by which point the enemy will have gone past you.
I havent gotten a kill with a skyflash in literal years on the Viggen, I have had better luck with R3Rs. So tbh they are a non-factor on the Gripen, I doubt anyone will be using them
Can you give tips on german F84F? How to play against guided missiles.
The only powerful AAM you can face is the R-60 on the Yak-38 and that can be decoyed with rockets, otherwise you're just facing things like the AIM-9B which you can dodge by just turning
Everyone: gripen is too broken pls nerf😭😭😭
M4K: winning pretty much every df against gripen
Everyone: pls buff mirage😭😭😭
m4k is not strong enough
@rober7823 you're being ironic now right?
In terms of reality M4K is nerf, but in term of the game maybe
@@SuperTitoneli In terms of loadout, it needs a buff
@@ptnnnnn197 yep but im terms of FM that thing is overperforming even the 16 Block 10
Joob's username with the smile looked familiar to me today while watching this, and now I'm almost certain now it's because he killed me in the Dev server lol.
Seek is getting flamed, he should have known better thought. South America doesn’t exist.
F15 any better now? Im going to be quite disappointed if it stays a wing ripping Bus compared to what the Su27,Gripen, and M4k have going on right now.
not really. the main issue is just the kit and the ripping. the kit would be okay if thew Su27 lost ERs, but that wont happen.
As of this morning when I played the Baz it felt a lot better, I could be wrong but it felt like it’s roll is better and it’s wings didn’t rip once out of the ten or so latched I played.
You could probably benefit from not draining all of your speed in the first turn
The gripen has a lot less thrust than it’s supposed to so it’s actually gonna get better not worse
Nope
seek can u do f-16 (aj, c, a) vs su-27
0iq gaming, del game
These are 12.0...?
So its a f16 that handels like a f5E?
I turned off the instructor a long time ago
25k WOOHOO
Record some su27 dogfights if you haven't already please
How big is the difference between magic 2 and 9m?
Well they’re pretty different missiles across the board. How different in effectiveness? Not that much, they’re both good missiles and very effective. How different are they statistically/feel? A lot.
Does anyone know how to turn off the sonic boom sound jets make? I find it so obnoxious it’s far too loud
Don’t break the sound barrier
UK (Britain) is getting the South African JAS-39C Gripen not South American
I know, misspoke
@@SeekerHead no biggie just wanted to clarify
you need to dogfight me and my buddy today, everyone else is having weak ass fights
they needa buff the flanker
Yeah it needs more missiles
the rudder isnt working properly, mega weak
The odds of running into a mirage 4000 is low because nobody plays France
You would be surprised, and I would expect more French players when this thing comes out since it will be the best dog fighter in top tier
whats up
But can they beat the J-7E?
Least deranged china main.
I kid but the gripen and m4k can easily outrate it at least and probably put up a good fight in the 1 circle
Not to mention they could just slam it with missiles
Does anyone know when the update will come to the live server
18 or 19 maybe
Sometime in the next two weeks
Yeah the Gripen's FM is definitely bugged. If you put it in full real and do a *purely* aileron roll, the entire plane does a cobra and flatspin. Just from rolling alone, no rudder or elevator inputs.
For the last video for the dev server could you do F-15 vs SU-27 again? It’s because the F-15 got a buff

Britain gets South African tanks, so it makes sense that they get South African aeroplanes as well.
Britain helped SAAB build the Gripen, it was called the SAAB-BAe systems gripen but BAe removed its name after it got caught money laundering in Africa to save Gripens reputation.
Hopefully this is just the first of many, I would love to see a full air subtree for South Africa

@@SeekerHead I understand I was just tryna write a fun comment
not sure why you think it should be changed. it should would out perform the f16a irl and of all the current jets be the best dogfighter alongside the m4000.why should the f16a be the best dogfighter in the game?
The flight model is literally incorrect/unfinished dawg
@@thatoneguy1741 and you think the f16a is correct tf?
The F16 is over performing as well, too much AOA. That being said, the Gripen is more egregious tho. It has a meer 12 degrees/second sustained turn rate at 3000m. It also only has a thrust to weight of about .86 on 1/2 tank of gas. This obviously is nothing like it is in WT, where the Gripen out performs almost every plane right now.
@@SeekerHead no use bringing up irl stats as the f16as rate at 370kmph is 20deg/s irl its probably 12 deg/s
@@SeekerHead it deserves to be on par with the f16a, in fact at these lower speeds it deserves to be better

South african varient not south American 🤦♂️
ik, just misspoke is all
M4K might be just a little over performing in the rate fight imo.
Only Arms Race Russia can win is in war thunder blyat
Its so funny as a real life JAS-39 pilot to hear a overconfident man talking shit about it lol. The F-16 is like a brick compared to the gripen IRL, and its the best non vectoring dogfighter IRL right now.
🤨🧐
You really think he is talking about the planes as they are in real life? 🤣
@@matthiasthewild6563 hes saying that its over-performing compared to the f-16… thats what i think he’s doing.

So it did exist, why are you saying it didn't when there are videos of it flying with various loadouts?
I've read the Gripen's engines are apparently 20% overperforming vs what they should do
those stats are stationary 10000 kgf is very much possible irl every stat they show you are stationary about engine every engine outperforms their stationary thrust based on weather and spee+altitude 10k kgf is very normal for 2 compressor on 1 engine
the gripen should definetly get 2 AMRAAMS this patch, for balance's sake
mirage 2000 vs gripen pls i really want to see that
