WISKR Helps Inmates.

Inmates at the South Boise Women's Correctional Center now have few more cell mates. Four legged and furry, to be exact, cats. Cats that need special attention. Who in turn help the inmates get ready for live outside.

Wonderful, wonderful ideas. It not only teaches inmates to have commitment and responsibilities but to "love". And it gives rescued cats a chance to be socially ready for adoption.

In a similar report eleswhere, the warden called program participants "offenders;" the Warden here refers to her charges as "the girls." How people are treated has a major impact on who they become.

It is such a great program it helps the cats and frees up space at shelters but it also helps to reabilitate the inmates as well so it's a win win all the way around

it's so adorable seeing people interact with kittens, no one can resist their cuteness! this is such a wonderful program, it clearly does a lot of good for both the kitties and the humans! it's always refreshing when prisons actually treat their inmates like human beings and realize they need something like this in their lives

For many years, cats lived among the inmates at the District of Columbia's penitentiary in nearby Lorton, Va., but then the prison closed, the cats were put up for adoption, and the inmates were sent to federal prisons throughout the country, in some cases hundreds of miles away from the District and their families.
