    That’s the first time I’ve seen someone put the battery tender on the actual battery in the trunk 🤔 I’m used to the posts in the engine bay.
    Bootmod3 made a huge difference in how fast the car feels for me. I’m glad you waited a couple years before tuning because now it feels like a whole new car again 😄 Keeps you from getting bored too quickly.
    I just flashed back to stock from bootmod3 because state inspection is due for me. Gotta do some driving/drive cycle to get my emissions monitors ready.
    Don’t forget to mess with the burble settings. There’s a lot of customization. Enjoy !

      lol I'm getting ready to put Nardo on a tender and imagined hooking it up from the engine bay but didn't even think about it for this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      And holy shit yes! It does feel like a new car! It's only been like 2 days and I can't imagine going back (a little dramatic but you know 😂)
      Def can't wait to get into the settings.

      Great way to put it, I’m on full E85 and I have to go back to pump gas every once in a while so I don’t feel bored of 600 WHP. lol.

    Stage 1 is where you would get the most gains, and stage 2 with the new DP will only get you maybe like 5-10whp as it just allows the turbos to spool faster, so you won't really feel much of a difference. Once you go E30+ is where you will start getting bigger gains again, but also risk the crank hub spinning more as more toque kicks in. I read forums where some get lucky with just a capture bold doing E85, but there are some that still spun the crank hub even with the capture bolt. So far the full crankhub upgrade + capture bolt is the only full-proof option for when you want to go full on power all the time.

      Didn't know that about stage 1 v stage 2 but for me, I'm good at stage 1: it makes really noticeable (and fun) extra power without making the car unmanageable. Definitely agree about the pinned hub, even though I probably won't be chasing any more power, I'll probably give in and do it at some point.

      Stage 2 runs more timing and about 2.5 more psi than stage one. It’s good for about 25whp. I’m running stage 2 on stock Downpipes (for 4 years and know of many others doing the same with no effects) and the notice from stage 1 is noticeable.

    A lot of people argue that the capture bolt is just a fake netting to make you feel better. It's not the torque of the bolt that fails, so it does nothing. Pinned hub is what you need

    • @jgo.m3
      @jgo.m3  4 місяці тому

      yeah my understanding was that the capture bolt wouldn't stop the crank hub from slipping but would potentially prevent it from destroying your engine (under those instances where that might happen). I could be wrong.. but definitely agree a pinned hub is the only safe bet.

    • @azsportrider
      @azsportrider 2 місяці тому

      A lot of people are wrong. If the torque of the bolt doesn't fail, then there's no way it can spin. Pinned hubs without crank bolt captures spin, unpinned hubs with crank bolt captures don't. Just look at Blake's garage for example, he spun his hub twice now once with a pinned hub. Can you even find one example of someone who spun it with a crank bolt capture?

    Congrats! Always love the content and attention to detail. Out of curiosity why did you opt for the wired OBD route vs the Bluetooth OBD? Was it based on being able to have a more stable connection? Thank you in advance for your help,
    Ian

      Thanks man, really appreciated that 🍻 Actually I totally forgot to 1) test my veepeak adapter and 2) mention it in the video.
      I read that the Veepeak adapter I use for BimmerCode/Link doesn’t work with BM3 but I forgot to verify and just went straight to wired (that I used for CarPlay). Good to have if you get into ISTA (still need to set aside time to play with that).

    I'm very surprised that you're confident in the stock crankhub, I hope it never gives you issues. But even after all the back and fourth of it being an issue or not i'd still get it done if i were you !

    • @jgo.m3
      @jgo.m3  5 місяців тому +1

      Eh I don't know that it's all confidence.. there's prolly a little blissful ignorance sprinkled in there too haha.
      I've spent enough time on the subject to know it's a good deal overblown but after feeling the power from just a stage 1 tune, it got me reconsidering (despite the fact that I really don't drive the car super hard). And since filming that, I found out there's a performance shop not too far from here. If they don't quote me an "I don't want to do it" price, I may get the full crank hub done. If not, then at least the capture bolt.

      @@jgo.m3 Gotcha. I’m not sure if you follow Scoobyfreak, but he just did his 2018 F80 at 21k miles and his friction spacer within the hub was snapped, which could’ve let to it spinning at such an early mileage. just something to think about

    • @jgo.m3
      @jgo.m3  5 місяців тому +1

      Yep I'm subbed to his channel but didn't see that; kind of terrifying. I don't remember if I mentioned it in the oil change / crank hub talk video, but I'd likely be inclined to do it if for no other reason than because I plan to keep this car for a really long time and I guess it would be one of those "glad I don't have to think about that" things.

      @@yg78t76t7 that's great, just further proves the reliability of the S55. Although, I have seen these cars run to 250k+ miles without spun crankhub, but i've also seen spc at the first 10k miles of a new motor. it's a tossup and i"d rather not risk that

    Did you notice any volume increase with stage 1 from the exhaust, simply because there is more air moving through the engine now?

    • @jgo.m3
      @jgo.m3  5 місяців тому +1

      Not really.. not to say there's wasn't an increase but if there was it wasn't substantial enough that I noticed. What I think did change a bit was the aggressiveness of the burbles. They're still at stock settings but man they're loud.

    Great video. How does this tune affect reliability? I am looking for a little more fun and power with mine but don’t want to risk reliability as this is my DD and have had plenty of issues with my previous N54 BMW.

    • @jgo.m3
      @jgo.m3  4 місяці тому

      Thanks man. Any time you start messing with the ECU (or anything aftermarket really) you always run the risk of causing reliability issues, but Protuning Freaks has a solid reputation and this software has been out for years so I'm not concerned. Sure it could mess something up but, if you're worried about the crank hub for example, I think that has more to do with driving style (guys with stock cars have spun them).
      Anyway, I was in the same boat: daily driven F80 looking for some more power but nothing super crazy. BM3 stage 1 was perfect for that 🍻

      haha lots bro.. haven't tried any others yet but will eventually give stage 2 a try and maybe get a custom map done given the current mods. Overall drivability is still pretty much the same but man do you bounce off that limiter a lot quicker. Happened to me yesterday completely unexpected; you know how you sort of lurch forward when unexpectedly redline? Got there faster than I remember.
