  • In today's video, we dive a bit into the various Mauser variants used by the nation of Yugoslavia. The first generation includes the Belgian built Model 1924, the Yugo built M24, and the Czech built M.24A.
    The second generation is from the Zastava factory and includes the original M48, the simplified M48A, and the M48B made primarily for export.
    Of course then you have the M24/47 and M24/52 upgrades...so yeah, a few Mausers you might say.

    For some reason I find military style Mauser way sexier then sporterized ones. The military style with the full stock and the top handguard just do the look a service.

    Love Yugo Mausers. So under appreciated when they are quite affordable and have an interesting history in themselves, especially say the original M24’s and the Yugo-captured K98k, aka the M98/48.

      Agreed, many interesting variants. I thought about putting the VZ-24 and a Yugo reworked K98 on the table too, but well, it was getting crowded enough lol.

    I have one that is still in a K98K configuration with M98 on the side receiver and Yugo crest over the top ring and Preduzze 44 next to the M98 marking. Looks and smells like German K98K but renamed M48. Still had German markings all over. Still shoots 5-6 inches vertically at 100 yards with Yugo 198 grain bullets, even an inch more with lighter Romanian light ball steel cased ammo. I am happy.

      Oh yeah, totally caked in it. The M48 in this video was sold on GB and people kept asking me questions about the bore and bolt.....yeah right, it looks like candle wax in there because the cosmo is so thick. Good thing is, very little chance for rust.

    What a coincidence, I'm knee deep in an M48 rebarreling right now. My M48B had a sewer pipe barrel, replacing it with hopefully a Lothar Walther, if I can get my barrel guy to get the barrel contour right.
    Interesting fact about the M48 series, the barrels are the only ones to have Mausers "safety breech" incorporated into the design. Mausers have an unsupported cartridge that is supported with the slight protrusion along with a slot cut for the extractor to fit into, this encloses the cartridge fully.
    I guess this was Paul Mauser's feature that wasn't necessary, as you've never really heard of a K98k blowing out too badly since Mauser was also obsessed with how his rifles handled gas, but the safety breech was sort of his final touch to an already amazing action.
    Can't wait to get my M48B back, I have a feeling it's going to be one heck of a tack driver.

    I recently acquire a Yugo refurbished K98. The receiver has most of the German stamps only faintly visible but has the Yugo seal prominently engraved into the top of the receiver. The left side if the receiver carries the 98 marking. I understand that the M48 really only has minor differences including the length of the bolt and the opening above the follower area. Any idea how many of these rebuilds the Yugo government produced and why they made the changes in the M48 negating interchangeability of some key parts?

    Yugoslav Mauser rifles are of high quality. The VZ 24 rifle’s sight protector is very similar to the one on my Czech Mauser from the 1930s. Are these chambered for the older 150 gr S cartridge or for the heavier 196 gr sS cartridge? Thank you. This is an excellent presentation.

    • @CannaCJ
      @CannaCJ 3 роки тому +2

      The 7.92x57mm 196gr IS, .323 diameter round. The big Spitzer. I figure you've looked it up by now, but just in case...

    • @revmarcell6449
      @revmarcell6449 3 роки тому +2

      C J many millions of post war 7.92 x 57 mm were still chambered for the older IJ version with a .318 mm 150 gr spritzer bullet. This was probably due the billion rounds left over from the First World War.

    Had an M24/47 that, while fun to shoot and sturdy, just wasn't particularly accurate and the bolt never ran very smoothly (bad bore and most likely a force-matched bolt). Sold it and picked up an M48. MUCH better rifle overall (if lacking in as much potential history as the M24/47). Put a scout scope on it (can't see those barley corn sights worth a damn) and it holds ~1-2 MOA with handloads easily. Great gun!
    Great collection, Misha!

      @Misha - With all due respect Misha, Tito was much more than a great leader, he was a statesman and a great diplomat. Unlike Churchill or Stalin, Tito was among his soldier, the only European leader who was a soldier as well.
      Just google ''Tito's funeral wiki'' and the introductory part speaks for itself about who Tito was. You will see that your first sentence is based more on ignorance(or even propaganda) than objective opinion. There is a farce going on among exYugos that the only two people from '45 up to this day who smoked in the White House were Tito and Monica Lewinsky (we say smoking to refer to sucking or blowing a d...)
      @burmiester1 - Tito and Hoxha in the same sentence... nah dude, you are way off!
      @Matej matej - Slovenia joined Yugoslavia mainly to get rid off Austrian domination and influence. Croats just like you brag about Croatia but without Yugoslavia, Istra and other parts of Croatian coast would be Italia today. Without Yugoslavia, Slovenes would be germanized Slavs without any doubt. It is unthankful not to consider wider perspective when making statements.
      I'm not trying to mock anyone here nor am I a Yugo or Tito sympathizer, I'm just pushing for objectiveness here.
