Thank you for this guide, oh so Frelling much. Cohh got me into the game but did shit all to explain anything, so having a vet go through & give their opinion is pretty important, for me at least. I legit had question about quite a few things you covered in this vid alone. Again, Thank You!
-Edited- I just realized that they gave the director's cut for everyone who had a copy of the WL2 as a free upgrade, so I take back everything I said earlier. The Steam was lying to me. And i'm glad that they are realizing the mistakes they made and are trying to improve the game even 1 year later. That is something that caught my attention.
This game rulezzz!! 86 hours on the original and now 44 hours on the directors cut. Really enjoyable if you like the old Fallout games like me, they were my favorite games and although I love the new Fallout games too (Just one more week to F4) they are not the same game anymore. I like x-com also but without the proper story its a little bit boring.
I've really appreciated & enjoyed your experience & wisdom with your "Wasteland 2" videos & tutorials. I loved the first "Wasteland" on my 80's C-64 many moons ago & just obtained the Director's Cut for my PS4. I subbed naturally, terrific videos my friend!
I had never played a game like this when I got it around the time it came out(the original, not directors cut), it was quite fun learning the combat system.
Thanks for this! New to wasteland but avid fallout 1 & 2 fan. When can we expect character creation and combat guide videos? I'm a newb and character building looks intimidating given what I've heard. Thanks
I bought this game about 6 months ago on ps4 and I tried to play it but was very overwhelming. After watching your videos it's made me want to go back and really give it a go. Cheers for that great advice
Dispanumeraphobia is good for end of the game since the max level is 40 you will always have +2 attributes once you reach it, but nothing beats ascetic, I put it on all my chars except my sniper who takes brittle bones
i noticed i had this on my steam after playing wasteland 2 a few years ago so gonna give it another try thanks to your videos. (i had given up on wiping after a few hours thanks to blowing the nuke in the citadel ...) .. subbed !
cool stuff mate sounds like you know what your talking about just game the game today on the bus on the way home now after watching this cant wait to play
+LividNewt759 Check out the links in the description if you need/want a new player guide to building a team.. Good luck to you Ranger and let me know if you have any questions!
Is it possible to betray the desert rangers in Director's Cut and join the Red Scorpions? I remember it being mentioned somewhere in passing. How would one go about it? Any tips for a villain walkthrough, Mal?
+rjcarless Well, since the General is how you promote there is no way to play through this way :/ You can kill just about everyone outside of the RC and your core four can never leave you... if you want to me a complete a-hole that is the only way. Sadly there is no faction system or way to be a true 'bad' ranger group :/ Truest me I tried a few times ;)
I haven't enjoyed a game so much since the first time I played Morrowind on the xbox back in like 04... Just wow. Thank you for the videos, they've been helping me immensely. I want to spit on my copy of fallout 4, lmao.
I kept big break from original W2, like I have 1/5 left. Just continued that playthrough and I was surprised to see DC in the Steam library. Have to start playing this version after playing original W2, just see the differences.
bought this, but never really sat down to play it. Will probably take a look at how you play it and figure it out further. Wonder if my experience with Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Fallout 2 will help the decision-making process?
+Wilson Kok Experiences with those games will help you out. I am planning a series of videos/best practices to help out folks new to the game as well; so you may gleam something useful from them :D As an example, I recommend NOT immediately going where General Vargas tells you to go; getting to level 2 or 3 via random encounters can go a long way to make you life easier.
Oh, really? I had only gotten as far as the water town's maze before Long War sucked me back in with b15 (concealment baby!) Probably why I found the first "boss" so tough - even with Angela, I needed about 5 rounds and a lot of dead militia before I could focus fire her down.
Damn, just when I installed the regular version on my new PC. I guess I got DC for buying the original during early access, because it's in my library. Oh well, not complaining-- the new content looks great. Guess I'll be restarting my new playthrough, lol.
Cheers for doing these videos! I find them oddly relaxing 😂 wasteland 2 is a great game! Good to see more rpgs like this coming to console which I kno everyone looks down on but it's given me the chance to play them! And I love rpgs! So glad pillars of eternity is coming to ps4 at the end of the month!
Oh hells yes. I was under a rock and suddenly saw this directors cut thing. For the record my experience of WL2 was ruined by bugs in Cali. Maybe that's all fixed now.
I never watched/played Wasteland 2 before, so I don't know much about mechanics or strategies. I'm looking forward for this new LP! Those dolls sure look creepy.
+Thiago Barbosa Well I have a complete LP of the non-DC version already up Barbosa, so you can watch that if you want to. ;) Going to work on a few more guide videos and then I will be turning my attention to a new LP!
Hi Mal i don't think i will get a replay since this is a old video however i heard that with Disparnumerophobia you can wait and level on even number levels and never on odd and you get the +2 to all attributes is that turn sorry am new to the game and just wanted to know
They changed it to +1/-1, because it was pretty OP before. However, if you only take your level ups every second level, it still can be worth it to get the +7 stat points, especially on a fast-levelling leader (maybe skill monkey) character. The whole group suffers for this a bit, especially on lower levels, to have the bad ass leader they deserve. ;) To put it in an other way: You get your investments in Charisma and/or Intelligence basically "for free" (stat-wise), as long as you manage to coordinate your level-ups accordingly.
Can you choose a premade a char as a starting point and edit it? I played the original and I'm thinking about maybe playing the directors cut after I'm done with UnderRail.
Thanks! I guess I'll see when I install it. Have you played underrail btw? Great game heavily inspired by Fallout. Hard as shit, but I'm having a great time with it when I'm not pulling out my hair lol
+Martynas Pašinas Well I had the character creation video done about eight hours ago and then I discovered how in-depth the new Perks system is and I wanted to make sure it is 'right' before releasing. I will have the video out at some point today [Thursday 15th 2015], just need to get a little rest first. Since these perks are completely new to me, it took myself and a few friends several hours to breakdown what we believe will make the *best* group + 3 NPC followers. So keep the faith, promise 'How To Build A Team' will be out, followed by 'How Combat Works', then 'What To Do... The First 2 Hours' and finally I will begin my full let's play of the directors cut. So this should cover all our bases and help out any of you folks that are new to the game ;) Stay tuned! - Mal
divinity and wasteland 2 are the best rpg games I've ever played. and i only paid 24$ for it. looking into getting Torment. I hope more games like this comes on ps4
Make sure to balance out your squad. Never leave home without a medic. Don't have too many people using the same weapon or ammo type otherwise ammo will be a big issue, especially in the early game and especially if you're using at least one SMG. The only weapons I would recommend doubling up on would either be melee or assault rifles, as the former don't need ammo and the later consume ammo slowly and the ammo they use is readily available. A secondary rifleman is a decent force multiplier without being a large drain on resources for your primary rifleman. Toaster repair is more valuable than you might think. Seriously, you'll find some crazy stuff in them and sometimes you'll get nice rewards from giving them to the right person. Don't go picking any fights in Los Angeles until you have some of the gear from that area. The top Arizona gear is utterly useless in LA and you will get kicked around like a cripple until you upgrade. Specialize, specialize, specialize. You can't be good at everything, so pick a few things for each Ranger to be really good at, then use companions to cover any weak points still left in your squad. At the same time, a few points in other skills isn't a terrible idea just in case your specialist dies at a really bad time. Also, don't waste rocket launchers. They only pop up for sale once, and once they're gone, they're gone.
+Tom Martin I did note that in the video Tom ;) I also tested it out, it will work well with the theme for the new LP I am going to do but this is not something someone should I would recommend for people new to the game. :D
No problem Mal, looking forward to the new WL2 with more voiceovers so Mal's not "ok I don't want to read a novel so I'll skip through this really fast." The new build looks to play to your strengths as an LPer.
+Tom Martin Thank Tom, though for WL 2, I generally did read everything (even if I thought it was boring) :) I agree though, the more VO, the better. As to the a-hole Quirk... after reviewing all the Perks (not Quirks) I had to come up with a different game-plan. I *think* you folks will agree after I put out the Building A Team video later today.
a sniper will always kill a 30% target (if he hits), so Opportunist isnt that helpfull there... a person with handguns on the other hand could benefit from it :)
+DaPutzy You mean like the secondary weapon for a Sniper (pistol or SMG)? Also some of the late game enemies are not always a for sure thing, just something to bear in mind. :D
yeah with a secondary it could work well, i forgot about that :D if you fire a burst with a weapon, will it check a the beginning or for every single shot?
DaPutzy Good question... testing required! Actually working on the character build guide right now, after that the combat guide so I will let you know! Stay tuned! :D
DaPutzy Well why not do both? :) Remember, I will playing on SJ and my Rangers are going to be kind of 'rough' not nice guys at all... so it will be very different than my previous LPs and hopefully fun to watch!
+Alex Stein I've just tested this for you and the answer is yes you can. The game has the option for Xbox, Playstation 4 and Steam controllers. Hope this helps.
+Drew Ivan Drew, here you go (from the FAQ): Are there new weapons? Yep! We've added a smattering of unique weapons throughout the game that are in hard-to-find places - locked and hidden containers, carried by critical NPCs, and so on. The core weapon categories haven't changed, however.
Never have played this but I sure did waste 40 on this game. Damn critters are OP right when you begin the game your characters are week can't lvl up fast.
+RIP9217 it's too easy. they should have made it like the original fallout and gave you nothing to start with instead of this next gen crap- they've held your hand stop your whining.
***** ah haymaker i totally forgot about that shit.. virtual haymaker to the balls on a child unfortunately died with the 90s.. i remember FO1 i was so stoked, and then on day 2 i find a crashed UFO- i was really into UFOs at that time and to find that instance so soon was great. i read about ppl playing for hundreds of hours and never got the crashed UFO and i get it on day 2.. so cool.
Nothing terribly offensive about your video but I'm Not sure it would hurt to do five minutes of research before recording a video of yourself guessing what various features are.
+The House of Game The only part I am 'guessing' about sort of requires leveling up quite a bit before I will know for sure what they do (the new combat abilities). Always a challenge to balance putting out info on a day one release verses holding off. I am however going to cover this (as I am able) in other videos. I do appreciate the feedback however. Good luck in the wastes.
Drew Ivan Yeah the trading menu has never been that great though, in truth... I get what you are saying however. As to saving custom characters... once you go in game and save once I thought they stayed in your 'pool'? Hmm I will need to double check that. My only real beef is the new Perks system being buried until after you get in-game. IMHO this is something you should have FULL visibility on during character creation. I know you can't pick your first perk until LVL 4 but we should at least be able to browse them. Oh course I am complaining because I had another guide video ready and then a friend told me "hey Mal what about all the perks bud?" Like five hours of spreadsheeting later and now i am ready to make my team! LOL :D
+Weeohhweeohh Indeed it is. I am starting with a series of guides to help out the all the new Rangers and then a brand new Let's Play. This time I will be playing as semi-aholes, I am calling the series Supreme Jerks on Supreme Jerk :D

Looks like a fair number of nice improvements, the new voiceovers and the graphics upgrade are also a welcome additions.
+Wulfric Arneson Yes indeed... can't wait to show you folks all the new Perk choices too, very cool!
they also changed energy weapons, there is no longer a damage threshold to increase damage, now its conductive vs non conductive

Heavy handed sounds exactly like the fallout one ;)
Your the best wasteland guide ever I made my favorite ranger look like the one in the loading screen holding the Uzi with under barrel flash light 😁💯
I bought this game about 6 months ago on ps4 and I tried to play it but was very overwhelming. After watching your videos it's made me want to go back and really give it a go.
Cheers for that great advice
Good luck to you Ranger! o7
I'm going to re-play this masterpiece again before Wasteland 3, first time with the Director's Cut, learning all again, haha. Thanks.
You bet! Good luck Ranger!
Wasteland 2 is back on the menus boys
I never really paid much attention to Wasteland 2, clearly an oversight on my part. Seems like a good time to rectify that, I look forward to your LP.
+Gemstone876 Good deal... figure a few more days of releasing guides and then I will jump into the new LP, as always I hope you enjoy!
Great video Mal!
I really like how you delivered the information, keep it up :)
+TacStick Gaming You bet!
Dispanumeraphobia is good for end of the game since the max level is 40 you will always have +2 attributes once you reach it, but nothing beats ascetic, I put it on all my chars except my sniper who takes brittle bones
Mal seems to be the most pleasant gamer guy I follow on youtube.
i noticed i had this on my steam after playing wasteland 2 a few years ago so gonna give it another try thanks to your videos. (i had given up on wiping after a few hours thanks to blowing the nuke in the citadel ...) .. subbed !
Reminds me of Arcanum a little bit. Arcanum never had any perks every 3 or 4 levels though.
cool stuff mate sounds like you know what your talking about just game the game today on the bus on the way home now after watching this cant wait to play
+LividNewt759 Check out the links in the description if you need/want a new player guide to building a team.. Good luck to you Ranger and let me know if you have any questions!

thanks for videos they really help me
You bet, GL out in the wastes!
For all the text in the game, it sure is tiny. Do they allow you to change the text size for dialog?
There are settings for this and the UI scaling as well. Cheers
I kept big break from original W2, like I have 1/5 left. Just continued that playthrough and I was surprised to see DC in the Steam library. Have to start playing this version after playing original W2, just see the differences.
Nice overview of the patch.
+Ratt611 Thanks Ratt and good to see you!
You explained it great! Earned yourself a new sub!
+Jambi Oh, thanks.... several other WL 2 DC guides if you need them. Good luck out there Ranger Jambi!
Thinking this new lets play is my opportunity to watch some wasteland again.
+mrbiofan12 Well let's hope so! Good to 'see' you bio!

waiting for next wasteland video. hope its character creation guide and firtst steps where to go in the map area

How is your main menu animated? I have GOG version, lates patch, the main menu is completely still image.
I can safely say I have absolutely no idea. I am running the Steam version, perhaps is why?
So I should play directors cut over non, right?
Yes, I think the DC version is far more refined and frankly more 'fun' than the original. GL to you!
has anyone had any problems with when you dismiss companions They never show up at ranger citadel ?
+MRbobandMRbird 2 Yes indeed, it is a known issue. Don't hold me to it but we should see a patch soon. The DEVs already have it fix internally. :D
+Mal Thanks Man
Imagine building a team of 4 with unlucky but they all have 9 luck, would it then hit enemies more often than yourself and friendlies?
Good stuff mate.
You sound alot like Mundane Matt.
+Lucas Temple Oh, thanks! Cheers
+Lucas Temple I think he sounds more like Syyborg.
raise in the circus. you do it on the one with leadership because it does not give you the bonus. but also it dresses you as a clown.
+sasmith I'll still pass... there are MUCH better options.
+sasmith All the characters look like clowns anyway. Really disappointed with the lack of visual options on console.
Sold
+Johnny Cage :D
Fallout Easter egg in wl2 look at preset characters
I just got this game any advice.
I think I have 4-5 guides worth of advice and 300+ walk-through videos =)

Mal, please note that the A@@hole quirk prevents your *whole* squad from using kiss or smart a@@ options.
+Tom Martin I did note that in the video Tom ;) I also tested it out, it will work well with the theme for the new LP I am going to do but this is not something someone should I would recommend for people new to the game. :D
Ok, just wanted to make sure.
+Tom Martin You bet, as always I know you are just trying to be helpful... something I continue to appreciate sir, thank you ;)
No problem Mal, looking forward to the new WL2 with more voiceovers so Mal's not "ok I don't want to read a novel so I'll skip through this really fast." The new build looks to play to your strengths as an LPer.
+Tom Martin Thank Tom, though for WL 2, I generally did read everything (even if I thought it was boring) :) I agree though, the more VO, the better. prepare the popcorn my brothers
+Dennis Donahue :D
Can you plug in a controller on the PC?
+Alex Stein I have not tried Alex, so I am uncertain.
Mal D-d-d-deal breaker!
+Alex Stein LOL
+Alex Stein I've just tested this for you and the answer is yes you can. The game has the option for Xbox, Playstation 4 and Steam controllers. Hope this helps.
dirtjunkie77 Thank you kindly!
25:21 she did talk in vanilla game
Yes but not as much, unless I simply did not remember. Also a possibility =)
Give for us the old, nice TRADE MENU!!!
+MrQuanticox I COMPLETELY agree with you!!! ;)
Anyone know any of the new weapons in this release?
+Drew Ivan Drew, here you go (from the FAQ):
Are there new weapons?
Yep! We've added a smattering of unique weapons throughout the game that are in hard-to-find places - locked and hidden containers, carried by critical NPCs, and so on. The core weapon categories haven't changed, however.
Mal Lol, I kinda doubt this, since I haven't seen any new weapons and the actual game files don't have anything new...
Drew Ivan At least three new weapons have already been confirmed and at least one is a special rocket based weapon - FYI =)
***** gotta discover them... If they even exist, you can look for weapons in the assetfiles, I can't find any new guns.
Wasteland 2 DC is free on GOG.
I was about to ask if you intended on replaying Wasteland 2 and you do just that lol.
+Emperor B777 Yes indeed. Going to spend a few days making some guides and learning all the changes to DC and then I am jumping back in! :D
+Mal I've been wondering why you've never played Invisible inc on your channel?
Emperor B777 I don't own it ;)
+Mal Eagerly awaiting. Your wasteland 2 vids are how I found your channel and then you sucked me into XCOM.
+Aaron Johnson He did the very same thing to me
but the strange part is the original version is about 19gb while DC one is 15gb + ?
Perhaps the shift to an upgraded version of Unity made a difference, shaders and what not?
Mal dunno m8, to me it seems illogical. how a enchanted version of a game could drop almost 5gb. they might have compressed the files dunno
Anima a they compressed files and removed useless files
Never have played this but I sure did waste 40 on this game. Damn critters are OP right when you begin the game your characters are week can't lvl up fast.
+RIP9217 it's too easy. they should have made it like the original fallout and gave you nothing to start with instead of this next gen crap- they've held your hand stop your whining.
Git gud, m8.

ah haymaker i totally forgot about that shit.. virtual haymaker to the balls on a child unfortunately died with the 90s.. i remember FO1 i was so stoked, and then on day 2 i find a crashed UFO- i was really into UFOs at that time and to find that instance so soon was great. i read about ppl playing for hundreds of hours and never got the crashed UFO and i get it on day 2..
The consolization of the UI is pretty damn horrific.
+Luckmann I didn't really notice much 'consolization'; what was the biggest change that stood out to you from 'regular' WL2?
+Mal only things I've personally disliked was not being able to 'export' and save custom characters, and the horrific trading menu >.
LOL :D
I don't know wether to get this or horizon zero dawn
Both :)
Ah shit. I wish I would have known this was on ps4 before I bought. I mean eventually I'll get a better pc but at the moment my laptop is pretty shit.
This was a little too long winded. It could use editing.
+Justin Drown Good feedback, thanks Justin. I was bit overwhelmed myself with all the changes :) Good luck in the wastes!
Dude, your other videos I found way more on point. This is the only one that I felt could have used editing.
+Justin Drown Thanks Justin, noted ;)
just by watching this video made me ashamed of myself....):
Wasteland 2 is back on the menus boys
+Weeohhweeohh Indeed it is. I am starting with a series of guides to help out the all the new Rangers and then a brand new Let's Play. This time I will be playing as semi-aholes, I am calling the series Supreme Jerks on Supreme Jerk :D
