About Wasteland 2 - Directors Cut:
Wasteland 2 is Post Apocalyptic, Tactical Role-Playing Game from inXile Entertainment. A sequel to the classic RPG Wasteland [a 1988 post-apocalyptic computer role-playing game] which was the predecessor of the more widely known Fallout series. In Wasteland 2 you control a group of four Desert Rangers and up to three Non-Player Characters. The game pits you against the hard wastes from the onset; you will have to use your wits, brawn, smack talking and anything else at your disposal to see your way through!
This new 'Directors Cut' version improves the graphics with Unity 5, UI, adds additional voice over, a more refined combat system, new Perks & Quirks system and much much more!

Still using your guides 5 years later! Great content. Im playing my first blind playthrough of WL2 right now, in preparation for my first blind playthrough of WL3. Loving this game so far. I can easily see myself playing this a couple times a year.

At first I really struggled, (came up against some komodo's and got wiped) and made a few poor combat choices, but after watching all your stuff, I have a much better understanding of the game, so thank you!

So i know that you managed to find the weapon merchant to get those guns. My question is how in gods name on SJ difficulty did you manage to get your weapon donation with low level crap weapon characters? Would you be willing to post the recording so we can see that fight?
You can easiy manage with the basic weapons with some combat setup (like that Mal has shown), *but,* if you, like Mal here have been through that for the nth time & want to get through first mission quickly, *then* an alternative is XML file editing. It is easy to try it at the start (because you then have very limited gear count. Read the lines and try to identify the gear then backup and change the gear tier. For instance Bladed_1_1 is the most basic blade weapon, so change it to Bladed_3_2 gives you a great hachet that can attack from a diagonal square (I think the highest bladed is 5_2 but not sure) and the sniper_3_2 is the one Mal's got here.. I'm sure you'll recognize what most gear is called in the save file (xml).

Do either of you know how to drop Ace's Wrench? The big one Deth carries, I picked it up after she died and the game won't let me transfer it to my melee character.

Just got this on PS4. The UI is completely different and to be honest I found it to be a steep learning curve, I'm starting to the get the hang of it now, your vids have helped. Keep em coming, love the channel.

For those that are curious, there is no realistic way for Mal to have killed the Wandering Weapons Vendor with his build (attributes and skill ranks) and level. The simple truth is that he wouldn’t have been fast enough or had the requisite number of segments granted by a high Combat Initiative to kite the enemies with AR’s and Sniper Rifles. Shotguns, SMG’s, Pistols and Melee would have put him in range of the Wasteland Guards shotgun blasts and the massive damage dealt from a single attack will take Angela Deth down to a quarter of her health. Factor in their Armor of 6 and the default of half damage from Supreme Jerk and you’re also going to need a LOT of bullets, so the combat will take a LOT of turns. In that time you must continuously be insuring you are nowhere near either of the shotgunners. The only way to mitigate their high level advantages is to Precision strike their Armor and possibly movement. However, this would likewise be difficult to achieve since with Mal’s low combat ranks, a precision hit is going to be a 15% chance at best. The simply likely truth is that Mal dropped his difficulty to seasoned or even rookie and that’s probably why there is no video of the encounter.

oh i just saw on the Nexus, Wasteland 2 DC Patchwork Mod it lets you zoom the camera a little easier, it tilts the camera very slightly further back so you can see further when zoomed out and allows you to zoom right in for an over the shoulder cinematic view for screenshots and thumbnails :D

I'm finding all of your guides and videos so helpful! Quick question: on the build-a-team spreadsheet, are perks arranged in the chronological order in which they should be taken for each character? For example, should everyone have a 2 in weaponsmithing as soon as possible so they can all take Tinkerer as their first perk?
First off, thanks for the kind feedback! As to you question, they are arranged (the perks) in order of usefulness/availability. Bear in mind the pre-reqs. Good luck out there in the wastes Mike! Good hunting.
Could not replay directly to bah humbug, because reasons :/ Here though: Well I didn't think anyone would want to see a 45 min fight of mose, set ambush, move set ambush and so I did not keep it :/ I did have some TNT which helped a little (not much). The map I was on the merchant was in a little structure with her two guards. What really helped was a little hill just out and to the left, I positioned myself there which forced them all to come out into the open (and they then had no cover). basically I danced around that hill denying them line of sight and SLOWLY I managed to take them down. Now I do not recommend this to people, which is why I say try to save up and just buy the M24 =) Hope this was in some way helpful and good luck Ranger!

Thanks, I'm new to the game, just got it about a week ago and just made it to LA. I understood and learned all the mechanics pretty quickly, and have no trouble "doing stuff," but I have trouble finding companions to recruit and feel a bit overwhelmed in the larger battles like (like Domota for example) only because of the fact that I don't have the manpower.
I've been wondering about the difficulty settings, do you get any extra exp or loot when you play on a harder setting.?
+Ruby Blue Nope, you get nothing extra for playing on the tougher difficulty.
it's crazy how good your loot is for level 4... goes to show how OP farming is, I guess. your level 4s have better gear than my level 12s...

okay hold on, you have really strong weapons for this stage in the game. did i miss something? ive been following your guides on my first time playing, trained till level 4 and my whole party is stillweak af, cant even fight the lizards. where did you get those weapons?

Two questions. If you are playing ironman, but you get wiped because of a glitch would you try to undo what the glitch caused. And two would you say any weapon types or skills become unviable late game. For instance would runny up and hitting a person in melee become not viable. Edit also would you say in general would you say it is usually the best idea to attack the enemies that could threaten you faster ( like if all the enemies are far away you should attack the enemy with the longest range)
Q1: Due to a glitch? Hmm... if it was a wipe, perhaps. I have lost individuals due to glitches and just went ahead.
Q2: Most weapons/types are viable into the end-game but are not optimal. ARs and Snipers just have a better CPK (cost per kill) ratio than the other weapons types sans melle which I ma not a fan of in the late game (too much risk with melee rangers).
Q3: Prioritize soft targets and clear them first unless a hard target is too high of threat to the group.
How many hours do you have in Wastelands 2? I got about 2,600 in XCOM LW & WOTC and am starting WL2 up now for the challenge
This may be a dumb question, but how do I activate perception on PS4? I can activate almost everything but that.

Hey Mal i have a question. I didn't farmed like you until i was lvl 4 and went to the story mission I immediatly went to highpool cuz of the emergency call. So it was not that hard there (i play on 2nd highest diffuclty bcuz im new into this kinda games). I wanted 2 ask you where you bought? found? your weapons? i cleared highpool completely and the only "better" weapon is a sniper rifle and the other weapons i found (okay a better assault gun i found 2) were all sub machine guns and not guns like u have @ this level. Normally i have 2 questions 1. where i can buy or find weapons like you got? and 2. AG center is "dead" can i move like you to the 2nd story mission @ the nomads camp with not such good weapons? I really wanna play more but im afraid that my weapons aren't good enough for it. Thx for ur help Mal, keep this LP up it's really interesting. (And sorry for my bad english, im from germany and cannot speak it perfectly). I hope i get a quick answer :) im lvl 5-6 and the npc is lvl 9 and still got the melee weapon from the beginning.

i met 2 local travelling merchants but none of them got good weapons, shall i walk around the zitadell and wait for one, who got some? or can i pass through to the nomads camp?
+skoilful Well 'killed' is such a harsh way to put it... well yes, I did ;) Circle around outside the Citadel to the West a little bit and you will likely find her. If not, you can move to the Southwest past highpool and look for some better random encounters.
+Mal how the fck did u kill this merchant? they have 2 guards i tried it i was likely insta dead :D (and always when i find a merchant he always only sell medic stuff is there one who is selling guns 2? i think i have massive badluck in this game) :p
I have the leadership skill but I don't see those flags or blue circle when I have been fighting in random encounters. Is this something you have to turn on? Thanks!

Spread OUT... make sure to have a few high grade rockets on a few people and use them in the same combat 'round'. Good luck!

I don't get how he's starting at level 4 with guns that do a crap ton of damage
He farmed XP by fighting random encounters. In regards to the guns, my only guess is that he knew where they were from previous playthroughs and grabbed them early.
hey man i have a question, I delayed ag center and highpool to farm for the good weapons ...and now the wandering merchant with the 500scrap weps wont show up ag center has fallen and i thing highpool too not sure... well my question is what to do rly do i keep wondering around citadel and hope for the right vendor to spawn (so is it random), or he wont apear anymore since i felt ag center fall or come consequense because i ignored the call for help? Help plx

@@Mazfaz89 I know its 1 year old but I started a new play thou and Mal always delivers a great LP. But I must admit if you start the game with a M-24 sniper rifle and 2 chars with M-16's the 1st half of the game is a cake walk even in SJ difficulty .

+Mal i watched that, but it ends with you outside the citadel, and this video starts with you in a map. im not sure what area of the map this video starts in. i am having some trouble getting stuff done and accomplishing missions, so i started over and was just gonna do and go where you do, but im not sure where you are at the beginning of this video to get things going. the first place i went after leveling was the ag center. which is not where you are at the beginning of this video.`

is it best to get rid of angla as soon as u can and not dumb xp into her because she leaves u or is it still better to keep her?
She is useful, there is plenty of XP to go around... just don't come to to depend on her.

Hello Mal...I'm trying this game again and unfortunately your help in one tiny thing seem to be lacking, other than that tiny thing you are obviously the Maestro of Wasteland 2 Directors Cut....I really mean that not just fluff...the problem is how did you get her to contribute to your weapons fund....you laugh and sort of say that in a way that says to me it wasn't voluntary....any hints how to survive that encounter without pissing off Deth about shooting civilians?
hey Mal...decided to look at the older comments and see if you had answered this...from the answer I found it doesn't say anything about the freakout that Angela has about shooting civilians so I guess it actually doesn't matter (?) learning a lot from your playthrough thanks

There are 3 random merchants in Arizona, one of them sells these weapons.
When he is saying that the merchant donated to him, he means that he had a really rough time but somehow managed to kill him (explosives were probably involved) and than proceeded to loot the vendors stock from him.

Hey Mal, i see you have lots of expensive weapons, i thought u might be killed trader to take all what they have, then searched on google could it be possible? and findout it is not possible on normal wasteland2. But you mentioned "she donate to the cause" what is that mean ? Is it possible to take all staff from trader without paying for them?

But i already watched that video. if i am remember correctly u mentioned m24 sniper rifle and how to get it (random merchant). But i don't remember anything about killing merchant :)
Well you *can* purchase it if you like... I decided to take nearly an hour (in combat no kidding) killing off said merchant and her two guards. It's a pain but it can be done/ Just remember STAY to the NW of the Ranger Citadel or you will trigger the first story-event quest. GL Ranger! o7

These videos are great. Two annoyances (and I realize this series almost 5 years old)... The pronouncement of "here" as "he-EAR" is grating. It wouldn't be bad if it wasn't said multiple times in a row at times. Also the repetitive instructions take forever. Other than that though, awesome tutorials and very great info!
You don't play this game like a good gamer, you play it like a farmer. Those weapons are almost 5 tiers higher than your basic weapons and you can do ag center with basic party, i did it a lot of times(i never played highpool). Doing this really doesn't represent the game or the difficulty. It's like playing king's bounty crossworlds and kiteing all the game. I am dissapointed, it's not representive to the game and each game is random....and you need about 500 scrap for each higher tier weapon on the merchant. I think they should remove the merchant....
I have played through the game multiple times and only gained the weapons as I went along. You are correct you certainly *can* play without 'farming'. If you choose to play on SJ difficulty, it can still be managed without any farming, just a bit more tedious. I have never said people 'must' play in this fashion, just showcasing what I chose to do this time through. Not sure why you are being critical in this manner but everyone is entitled to an opinion of course. Cheers
