These color theory videos by mural Joe are some of my very favorites. He teaches principles to work by so you can think on your feet and know what to paint in the moment. Thank you Mural Joe. You are my favorite and most helpful art teacher.
Dear Joe, thank you so much for this video...i know its 8 years old..but it is still so very helpful...your explaination with the help of colourwheel is so amazing and gets one going in the right direction. Thank you so much for all your videos..they are so helpful and inspiring.
Thank you so much Nick. I really appreciate that. I always need improvement so I never really feel like I have it down but I am very glad to hear that you find these videos helpful at all. I'm always open to suggestions too.
Very fine way of explaining your way through the process and all your reflections on using color and mixing and blending directly on the wall - it is very informative and truly inspiring -
You are a terrific teacher and I like your use of cheap..home depot stuff to make beauty. I studied Trompe painting in cornwall with Janet Shearer..for a week and she is terrific, but you get down and dirty and really show how to do it with rough materials. Of course you have the techniques of foreshortening and shadowing down. Takes me a lot to get there.
@moorratte1 At this point I pretty much always use Purdy angled brushes. They're labeled "for all paints". I just use different sizes of that same style. I also get smaller artist brushes with same angled cut and synthetic bristles, at the local art store or Michael's, for more detailed stuff.
I love your videos, so helpful and detailed, yet simple and detailed. Can you make some of a midnight starry night with clouds and the moon!! Thank you *Kayla
Sorry, I don't get it. How come the blue looks green to you? Blue is supposed to be a primary color and green comes out of it, not the other way round.
Thanks for the tutorial. I would to ask you which colors have used to shadow clouds. You are clear I'm the probem because I'm not English mother tongue and I have not understood :)
Joe ......just love the way you teach. If, by the way your zodiac sign is Libra, that would explain your absolute charm, otherwise it just comes naturally. Continue your mission to inspire the love of art.. and may the force be with you or whatever propels you. Have a great day. Sylvie
Yes. Opposing colors mute each other. So if you identify what color you have to much of in your mix, you can quickly add the others to counter it. I think the term complimentary is referring to the way opposite colors visually contrast with each other though. I don't like to use the word complimentary because it's not clearly defined.
Talk about brushes---you've GOT to have quality brushes because of the way they are abused in larger blending. The bristles can come off and stick to your painting.

Best color theory explanation in nature
the two videos of yours that I have watched so far has taught me more than my art teacher has in 3 years! just subscribed😁

Maybe that's when you add a bit of black? But thanks so much! I learned a lot!
Fantastic, man just fantastic, love the bit about trying to get colours as bright as they are outside, I’m falling for that one all the time

I've begun my first mural ever and your channel really sharpens up my techniques as I go into it.

What is your base shadow color for your clouds
Which color is best for mural art Joe sir?
And by the way I liked the Music that just came in the end. What kind of Music was it?

haha my brother is libra and same personality.btw i donot believe in stars
"to me this looks slightly green"
uhhhh what? how?! you only used blue and white!
Cory Voce jajaja... I was thinking the same.
water base paint ? is latex ?
Thank you so much you are the best
So adding the color from the opposite side of the color wheel will mute it? Is that how complimentary works

It's more clear to me now. Thanks for the reply.

HE uses normal wall paintign brushes. There is a video that shows what he shops.
Joe, I love you, but orange is not what you said. If you look at the color wheel brown is really violet-red.
This sounds very scientific, but then i go out and look up to the sky all i see on clouds is white and bright (or bluish) gray :D
i love it ^_^
It makes me so sad when you cover up your painting! I would be crying if I had to do that lol!
Please no music thanks
Too much noise.
