Favorite KISS memory, in late 1985 I worked in the largest video rental store in Columbia SC. One day a bus pulls up out front and sits there for about 20 mins, then a man gets out and comes in and asks if there are any customers in the store, it was before lunch so, no. He goes to the door of the shop, waves and Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Bruce Kulick and Eric Carr step off the bus and come in. They spent the next 45 minutes picking out movies while the man who came in first kept anyone else from coming in. The whole time the owner of the store made a complete ass of himself, he knew these people were famous but did not quite know who they were. Gene asked for some recommendations for a good action movie and the owner compounded his foolishness by recommending the movie "Runaway" which was a popular rental title, Gene took the box, looked at the back and said, "yes a very good movie" as he holds the box next to his face and points to his own picture on the back of the box. It was hard not to laugh at my boss but I somehow managed. Some small talk ensued as my boss negotiated a one week rental fee for the movies and I mentioned that I had been in the nosebleed seats at the Alive II concert in early 1978. As they were leaving Paul asked if I was going to be at the concert that night and I replied yes, in the nosebleed seats again and he said, "nope, not this time" on the way out he stopped and told the guy at the door to fix me up. He followed them to the bus and came back a couple of minutes later with two floor tickets, about five rows from the stage!
Fuckin A, I love your story.... Saw them in Raleigh NC and going again in August in Charlotte NC!!!!! Floor seats in Raleigh, damn near front row seats in Charlotte at PNC Pavilion....

Dave from Maine Paul has never been stuck up. If anything that’s Gene... Paul felt unappreciated because once KISS became popular he’s the only one who kept a straight mind and had good work ethic... Gene was too busy focusing on himself and Ace and Peter did nothing but party and get high... If I was Paul I would be pissed
I got this album for Christmas in 1978. That's where it all started for me. I was mesmerized! I would listen to it for hours and just stare at the inside of the album cover imagining what it would be like to be there. In 1985 I got my first drum set and have been in bands ever since.

I've only been to one concert in my life. KISS, Nugent, and the opener was Montrose. 1976, Anaheim stadium. It was complete bedlam. 4:25 tongue wag is the best reaction I've seen, ever. LOL Before Hendrix and then KISS, most bands just stood there. Kiss wanted people in the back row to see the show!
Kau, that was a little before my time. But I have seen footage of Iggy smearing peanut butter on himself and Ted with the bow and arrow. If you want old school shock value, how about Screaming Jay Hawkins? Dressed like a witch doctor, coming from a casket and singing. Very controversial in the 50s.
Everybody's forgetting young Elvis in the '50s (LONG before Hendrix) when network television wouldn't even show the lower half of his body due to his "Gyrating" on-camera... "Long" hair... Black leather pants... There's the early inspiration (or at least the roots) for the artists you're all listing when it comes to white Rock...Chuck Berry was the MASTER of movement in about the same era... Crazy-legs and the duck walk that directly inspired Angus (AC/DC). Before Gene's tongue, there was Elvis' curled lip... I'm not sure that would have got the same reaction from Pink, though. =)
In 79' I roadied for the rock/punk band Crimers, we covered a few KISS songs. Our drummer did the Detroit Rock City vocals and naturally sounded like Paul Stanley. Family concerns eventually broke up our band. I later worked with Psycho Toyz who covered RAMONES, Dictators, Dead Boys, ect. Our bass player Karl Fidrych went on the play with Rash of Stabbings and were a mainstay of New England clubs for years. The best of days.
I took my daughter to see Kiss in Birmingham back in April. Was my 3rd time seeing them and the the end of the road tour is A great show.My daughter loved the show
Cool memories with KISS. Here's some other classics from KISS: God Of Thunder, Black Diamond, Firehouse, Cold Gin, Doctor Love, Love It Loud, Made For Loving You, Beth.
Back in 1977 at age 9 I saw a kiss poster at the grocery store and didn’t know who they were but they looked badass so I begged my mom to buy it for me and then soon after the first ever kiss song I heard was Detroit rock city and it blew my mind that this was the only band with the look and sound that was perfect for me. This performance was at Tokyo’s famous budokan hall where they sold out 7 shows in advance to break the attendance record held by the Beatles. They say Alice Cooper was the original with the makeup and stage effects but then he took a break performing so kiss thought how much more entertaining to have 4 Alice coopers on stage and the rest is kisstory.
Now, imagine, listening to the best music from the 60's, 70', 80's, 90's, 00's 10's and 20's , seven decades of music, everything from Oak Ridge Boys to KISS to Taylor Swift I have seen in Concert.
Nice reaction to watching Kiss. Long before the internet and UA-cam, I could only dream what it must have been like seeing these guys perform live. I was a fan that was caught in the 80's, yet born in the wrong time to have seen Kiss in their heyday. So, to see film footage on UA-cam now years later is awesome considering the internet was unheard of in my generation. I got the chance to see the original lineup twice; reunion tour and the farewell tour, both I enjoyed. One thing that made my jaw drop was seeing Ace's guitar smoke and he had another one that had chasing lights as well. It was quite amazing to see in concert I thought, but equally impressive to see them in their prime when they were hitting stardom and watching the old live footage. Thank you so much for posting your reaction to this. Back in my day it was just magazines and word of mouth with the exceptions of two VHS releases; Kiss exposed and another VHS tape that this band produced, the name of the other VHS title escapes my mind at the moment. However, not all newer Kiss fans back in the day had access to a nearby Blockbuster movie rental nor did we own a lot in way of Kiss merchandise, either. I was always appreciative of the second hand Kiss Lps, 8-track cartridge tapes, pinups, and two or three album inserts that I did manage to proudly obtain. I wish I had kept my first Kiss collection from that time, but that never came to be. All the best! And keep posting more videos. :)
KISS were on fire during this period, on their way to the Vert tippy Top!! Paul was also my favorite vocalist of the entire 70s over everyone else. They put on a High energy hard rock show that was never boring imo
Wow, the memories. Back in the mid to late 70's Kiss was huge. One of the biggest things about Kiss back then was they never showed their real faces in public, NEVER. If a fan or photographer got a shot of them without make up, their body guards would get the film from them and destroy it. I'm glad I experienced Kiss when they ruled the world, it was a fun time in music.

KISS was not seen out of their makeup in public for the nearly the first ten years of their career, in that pre internet age. That air of mystery made them feel like superheroes. KISS started with the face paint and costumes just to be outrageous and stand out. So-called "glam" rock was a thing back then, apparently in KISS' hometown of New York particularly,
Great review! Watch a complete KISS concert. You will never see anything like them again. They created their own character/makeup designs. They were basically a harder version of The Beatles.
I'm a huge KISS fan. Glad you checked them out. You asked who started the face paint/ make up, I'm pretty sure Alice Cooper pioneered the face paint stuff. He's awesome too!
Welcome to the world of KISS, you have got to try "I Still Love You" off of MTV unplugged circa 1995. Paul Stanley's vocals are incredible & gives me goosebumps Everytime!
I saw them in concert for the first time a year after that performance in that video, and I've seen them six more times since then (as recently as 3 years ago). If you do any more KISS reactions, you *have* to do their live videos only!
KISS protected their identities for many years, wearing bandanas over their faces and covering their faces with their hands while in public. Even when Gene Simmons (the tongue) dated Cher, no one ever caught his face on camera. They took the makeup off for the first time in 1983, after ~10 years of being anonymous and famous at the same time. You should watch their live version of "I Still Love You", which is a very soulful hard rock ballad.

KISS - Black Diamond from Alive !
Pink, you're the best, sweetie. And you're right....KISS is much better live than in the studio. They definitely take it a level no one else on stage.
Yeahhhh! Now we're talking. KISS!!!!
I wore out my 8-track Destroyer album by June 1976.
The face she made when gene tongue waved is priceless
The first concert I ever went to was KISS when I was 11yo. The put on one hell of a show.
Love your reaction to the tongue of Gene Simmons! Wish I could’ve read your mind at that moment. 😂
re: Gene Simmons' tongue
"Flappin like it was windy"
LMAO! Hahahahahahahahahaha!! That was awesome! Haha! :-D
KISS were on fire during this period, on their way to the Vert tippy Top!! Paul was also my favorite vocalist of the entire 70s over everyone else. They put on a High energy hard rock show that was never boring imo
KISS Live are great, fun show everytime...
Thete is no better intro to a rock concert..the mighty Kuss...cool.
You Are Awesome My Dear,
Hi My Name is Mike and I'm a 54 year Old Metal Head, You are a Breath of Fresh Air, and I'm Very Pleased By Your Reaction To Detroit Rock City, I've Been a Kiss Fan Since about 1977, and I've been Luck enough to see the Band in Concert 5 Times, Including their Concert in Portland Oregon on the Farewell Tour last February.
God Bless, and Keep Up The Good Work On UA-cam.
Seen Kiss 5 times great show every time. These guys put this band together and never looked back. Not only great musitions but Gean is a master at promotions and marketing.
Kiss is the original best show on earth. You need to see a whole live concert to see what I mean, they wanted to give their audience the best show they had ever seen and they did a damn good job.
Great reaction video, but I just realized something, at 4:47 Paul invented dabbing.
No, you're stepping on the headline here. 4:26, when she sees Gene's tongue - That's the headline.
Goosebumps hearing that!!!
KISS is awesome, thanks for the reaction
KISS is the pioneer of this kind of music, all others flow from them.
Good to see younger people enjoying /exposing themselves to great music.
Love it!! Noone hardly ever does KISS..The best band ever (except i was made for loving you) How about Firehouse live from Cobo Hall..Thanks for doing one of theirs
By the way I didnt mean I was made for lovin you wasn't a good song...I meant that's the song most react too
Thank you for watching a video of the original band!!! They were good!
KISS ALIVE IV - "Black Diamond" and the Gene Solo/God of Thunder.
With a full Symphony Orchestra kicking your ass!! The whole show is perfect!!
Sting got his look from The Crow. It was Scott Halls suggestion.
"I WANTED THE BEST AND I GOT THE BEST, THE HOTTEST GIRL REACTING TO THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD.....PIIIINNNKK!!!.....DOING KIIIISSSS!!! 😁 Thanks for the react! 😁
Oh yeah and other "makeup" bands or glam bands or shock-rock bands would be Alice Cooper (as someone mentioned) or 70's David Bowie or New York Dolls or Slade.
The way you're memorized by them is awesome. I remember when the First KI⚡⚡ album came out.. I was 7yo and saw the album cover, never heard of them but I had to have it.. and I've been a fan ever since.. today at 52yo it good to see they still make fans .. enjoy and welcome to the family.. The KI⚡⚡ Family..
Kiss Largo MD 1977 - Calling Dr. Love
I grew up with KISS. they were not the first to paint faces but they made it in a way that mae them unique
Check out also: Beth, Sure Know Something, I was Made for Loving You, Duece, Strutter... A pretty good mix of sounds in this list. :)
Love the reaction. Yes the greatest rock show spectacle of all time and still going
Good to see you again Pink MetalHead!
Good reaction to my favorite band as a kid!
I talked to Gene at the KISS convention in Atlanta in '95.
Essential 80's Kiss songs and I'm going to include 1992's Revenge as well. Because that's the last official Kiss album before they did MTV Unplugged and the original band got back together.

KISS Alive II, good choice for album's to start with by them.
God of Thunder off the same album is a great choice.
Love kiss. You really should do heavens on fire. One of my most favorites
Fortunate to see them live in 2009 at Cobo Arena in Detroit. The place BLEW UP when they played this song.
Being from Detroit this song will always be special to me. Kiss fan sense 1974.
Alice's Cooper is a trip he has a stage act for all his songs. And he is from Detroit he is a little guy and he live in Az. Now he can play golf with pros now he is that good at golf no joke.
Great job reviewing and great pick for a KISS tune
