So in the 60's when US was moving into Folk music, a bunch a skinny white boys in the UK were drooling listening to Core US Blues, from there came Rolling Stones, Cream, Yardbirds ( later Led Zeppelin), Faces, Animals so much that a black US Guitar Hero Jimi Hendrix had to go to the UK to get the appreciation before going back to the US.

I wish my 12yo would do the same, but she’s sticking to KPop, which makes me very sad. Especially as my brother and I (he lives with us as I’m disabled and he’s my carer) are big on all genres of music, and I’m especially all about the classics.

@@autohmae I completely agree with you. For anyone who has listened to Pink Floyd recorded or who has been fortunate enough to experience Pink Floyd live there can be no denying the spiritual stirring it creates in the soul. I believe music at its finest, music as an art form is like a facet on a complex and finely cut diamond. A diamond with an infinite number of facets. Each facet represents a particular style, or genre or idea that is expressed in music. I would never make a value judgement comparing Steely Dan with Pink Floyd. I am saying that although quite different from each other they both cause that stirring in the soul. Just when a person thinks they've discovered "the one" something else comes along and shows them the light bent in a slightly different trajectory but still just as beautiful and awe inspiring.

I'm 62 and when "RAP" first came about in the mid 80s, I was open minded and gave it a shot. AT FIRST, I "THOUGHT" it was kinda cool. But it got REDUNDANT, BORING, and it was ALWAYS..TALK!! And I also noted that MUSIC was being taken from bands and artists that ACTUALLY PLAY "MUSIC" and stuck in the middle of their "RAP", which tells me that they haven't the abilty to come up with their own ORIGINALITY!!
Then they started to put all the CUSSING in there and I just said....KEEP IT, I DON'T WANT IT!!!!!

Roger Waters, the absolute master of lyrics!
I remember making a similar thing happen with a punk g/f back in the '80s using 'Animals'. If you may recall, punks did not like Pink Floyd, they saw them as the establishment old guard, overcomplicated and out of touch. So I sat Emmy down, put a copy of Animals lyrics in her hand & put the tape on to play. Her reaction was similar to PinkMetalHeads as she realised this 'boring old guard' band was every bit as savage & violent as her punk heroes, the only real difference was subtlety in the presentation by adding a contrast of sublime music.

@Anthony Fremont of negativism So you like someone putting lyrics in front of sound? Too me it's nothing special. As for computer driven music every one has used in Rock as filler not like today's music. To me music should be played by instrument not as cheep and easy to push of a button. Hell I can do that. And as Greta Van Fleet they are a cheap knock off of Zeppelin but they do play instruments. The real problem is schools don't have good music programs AND haven't for decades. Since I was in school.

Shortly after our youngest son and his wife gave us our first grandchild, we were all in the waiting room and I was telling my son how proud of him we were, he looked at me and said "I get what Roger Waters meant". I looked at him and gave him kind of like a shrug and a head shake. Than he said "You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you." and it just touched something inside of me and the water works started, and now every time I hear this , I cry. I had always understood the song, but it was already such an emotional moment and then to hear my son had been touched really made me feel like I succeeded as a parent.

I'm literally brought to tears watching this young girl discover this music. I'm 56 years old and have cherished every note of this and other Floyd albums ever since they were made over 40 years ago. Call me an old fart - seems like people always say this about the music of their generation - but the pop music of today can't even begin to compare to this masterful stuff. It makes me sad that such greatness doesn't exist anywhere in what's written today, but at the same time warms my heart to see someone around my kid's age listen so intently and discover this great art. Many people have said it but I feel the need to say it too: these albums are not collections of individual songs. They are complete works meant to be LISTENED to (not just "heard") from beginning to end. Find yourself an hour when you know you will not be interrupted or distracted, turn down the lights, put on good headphones, close your eyes and listen to these albums from beginning to end: DSM, Wish You Were Here, and Animals. Also "Echos", the one very long track comprising the 2nd half of Meddle. I've never been a huge fan of The Wall with the exception of a few songs - most notably Comfortably Numb.

Brian Lester Gilmour isn’t a genius .He couldn’t write lyrics ,or sing them for that matter.Hendrix was a genius. He is not relatable to me .......or Johnny Rotten who described this as drivel. This album sold in thousands who bought it to see what the misplaced hype was all about and then found out the truth.`There was too much good music being made at this time for this to stand out .In fact it sounded dated to me when it was first released. I was a student at that time and a lot of my friends bought the record because it made them appear intellectual. In reality they were merely joining a very large flock of sheep.

FLASHAHOLICS it’s funny bc time was not exactly super brilliant to Floyd when they originally wrote it. It’s a song that roger waters wrote out of frustration bc Pink Floyd wasn’t really going anywhere and he was already 29 years old. Yeah they had their fan following but they hadn’t had any real big success until dark side.

If it took 10 seconds before the intro turned into vocals, they were calling it boring.

I used to get annoyef bc it was so damn loud but as an adult you can bet your ass I have the same vid and I listen to it at an 11 and it likely drives my kids nuts lol.
