    Believe or not, I was at Home Depot yesterday looking for PVC pipes to built my dragon fruit trellises and noticed the concrete block for $7 and said to myself this would be a great way to secure a 4x4 wood post for a wood trellis. Instead of building with PVC, I am going to build wood trellises with your guide. This eliminates the need to drill holes in the pots and it seems a lot easier and cheaper than PVC method. I was freeze framing your last few videos trying to find trellis's dimension and now you have a video. This is awesome. Thanks.

      Hi Michelle, you’re very welcome! Thank you for watching, make sure when you are shopping for wood. Look for Cedar wood, it’s naturally resistant in rot and will last a very long time. Lumber stores will have it. Home Depot’s wood is a bit cheaper and won’t last as long as Cedar wood.

    I love the videos. I did a cleft graft 2 weeks ago using your video and it was successful and looks much cleaner than a previous graft I did. The trellis doesn’t work for me because I need to bring my plants indoors at winter and your setup seems too heavy but thanks for everything. 👍🏽

      Hi, Ronnie Donohoo THANKS for always watching and supporting, you’re awesome! I’m so happy that you were successful with the graft! Congrats on your success! I’m glad my videos are actually helping. Keep it up, they only get easier every single time you attempt to graft. If it’s too heavy you can make the trellis without the concrete block. Half of my trellis don’t have them because of the same reason you have. I like to move my pots around depending on weather situations. They hold fine with soil and once the roots establish it really locks them in.

    Hey in your description it says you’re using 1.6ft of wood for the top part… you’re actually using 1.5ft of wood.
    It got me confused for a minute. I think you put 1.6 because you’re using 1 foot plus 6 inches which is 18 inches, which is 1.5ft.
    Appreciate this video though!!! I’m going to my local lumber mill now to get the pieces. I was able to get TWO nice dragonfruit plants for $8 TOTAL from Home Depot 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

  • @kristofp72
    @kristofp72 4 роки тому +7

    I like the design but you'd get a better result using a drill/screwdriver and some screws. You can pre-drill everything and it would fit nicer. Screws also keep it tight for much longer. Might take a bit more time than nailing but I think it's worth it especially as it would be easier for most people to reproduce. Nailing is something that requires force and some skill something not everyone has. But everyone can drill a hole and screw a screw if shown how.

    Good job but pre drilled screws would have made it easier. The only thing I think you should address are safety goggles for you and Olivia. Until you see your first nail become a projectile when you slightly miss the head directly you may not understand the danger to your eyes. It is terrible to see the nail imbedded in your our someone else's eye. Sorry for the negative comment but I felt it necessary for your followers. Just use screws next time.

    Thank you so much for your videos they've been very helpful. I just started growing dragon fruits like literally yesterday :) I purchased a dragon fruit on offerup up that needed some tlc. I'm planning to use it for cuttings as it was pretty damaged. I purchased another one today and it's a pretty decent size. My question is would this trellis work for a more mature tree? I seems like the block would get in the way of the roots. Also, I live in San Diego as well, do you sell cuttings from your trees? I'm in search of the yellow one and have yet to find it. Thank you again for taking the time out to make this video.

    Everything must be water/ weather proof as all elements of your construction will be exposed to water( rain/ wind etc)
    So I think timber and all screws must be waterproof?
    Is it correct?
    Maybe you should stress it while making this video?

  • @williamluceno1657

    I built my trellis just like yours but I used all pressure treated woods to last longer and avoid decay and used screws instead of nails as nails get loose after a few months when the woods get drier.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 років тому +5

      Hi William, I don’t use treated wood on purpose because it’s treated with chemicals. Once the dragon fruit grows it’s roots to wrap around the trellis it will secrete the chemical in the treated wood and can end up getting the plant sick. I’ll use latches to secure the 90 degree angles to help it from getting loose. Screws are great to use, they definitely last longer. Thanks for watching!

    Hi from Brrmuda. I have a problem in that I presently have my dragon fruit in a pot propped up with a piece of iron pipe. It has no ties to train it and it's already started to fruit. It's about 2-1/2 ft high. Is it too late to do v1 or v2 of your trellis at this point?

      Hi Marcelle, if your think you can transfer your dragonfruit over to the new trellis without causing to much damage then is a you should try it. But if its too big to transfer into a new trellis then start over by planting new cuttings into your new trellis.

    Hi. I have questions if you could help me. A seller gave me 7 cuttings of DF to root. Can I put like 4 in one 25 gallons container for them to root with a trellis in place or do I need to root each of them separately and repot them? They are too big to put in a small container. I dont want to cut them in half ( unless I have to). TIA

    About how much did you spend for this post?

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  5 років тому +1

      It cost me 25$ total to buy all the supplies needed to make this trellis. You’ll even have extra supplies to make more afterwards so it will cost less to make your second trellis. 👍🏼

    Hi, for your 4x4 are you using a treated or untreated wood.

    • @GraftingDragonFruit
      @GraftingDragonFruit  4 роки тому

      Hi Ryan, I'm using untreated wood. The reason is because treated wood has chemicals that maybe harmful to the plant and human consumption. Look for Cedar Wood, they are natural, very compact, and resistant to moisture.

      I never use treated wood around plants or trees that I use for food. Use good cedar or redwood. It will last long.
