Aloha! Thank you so much for these videos - new subscriber here :) I'll be moving to Oahu in April and really appreciate all the tips and tricks. I'd also like to suggest volunteering at local food pantries, doing beach clean ups, or helping animal shelters if you're looking for free things to do for a good cause. Sometimes these opportunities allow you to eat a free lunch as well in exchange for your time. (Plus, it'll also give you a better understanding of the community - especially the homeless population if you volunteer at a soup kitchen). Can't wait for the next video!
Wow, these are such great recommendations. Thank you for sharing these! Good luck with your move to Oahu, it’s coming up soon! Know that you can reach out to us if you have any questions, or just want to chat!
I love this suggestion! Also, even for visitors: I'm not sure about other islands, but the Kaua'i Humane Society will let you take a shelter dog out on a day trip! We did this while on vacation in 2017 and it was the best. We got to take a sweet pupper out on his first trip outside the shelter (hiking at Waimea Canyon) and it was so much fun! They give the pups an "adopt me" vest so as you run into people you're also spreading the word. kauaihumane.org/service/field-trips/
Thanks for the tips you guys. I know living in Hawaii will require more financial discipline that I am excercising right now, but somehow it seems worth it. Just when I think it might not happen, you show another amazing hike or scuba dive and it renews my hope to live there some day soon. Peace and light.
Really enjoyed the video. Very helpful, and motivating, as I am 1.5 to 2.5 years away from selling everything (already becoming a minimalist) and making the move to teach in Hawaii (Maui?). Keep the videos coming!
James, I am also a teacher (on mainland) and have a similar goal. I was hoping to sale everything and teach on Maui for the 2021-2022 School year, but the education system is in dire straights right now. Furloughs and possible loss of positions. Hopefully things will look much better by spring.
@@writeronthestormkyushu565 Yes, right now is not the ideal time, but I am hoping things go back to normal soon. Looks like you will be there a year or so before me. Hopefully I'll be at a high school in 2023. :-)
@@livinlife5273 Wow! you really are planning ahead. I am an elementary school teacher. I wish I could say I plan everything out like you, but it would not be true. Seen the world through my love for teaching and always find a way to make it happen. It is like a great adventure.
On the Big Island of Hawaii, public schools in rural communities have "teacher's cottages" , simple, inexpensive homes for teachers to rent.Usually the cottages do not allow pets- probably as they are on the outskirts of the school campus.I'm not sure if that option is available on Maui, but it is worth checking into
What a great video! Another fun tip might be to watch UH athletics. The tickets are low priced and the baseball games are especially fun. Much cheaper than on the mainland. But...not sure with covid what’s available.
Best way to save money on groceries is to shop for food in China town ..there is also a food outlet in Kalihi as is clothing outlets most stuff is 70% off
Hello I been watching a couple of your videos and they are great! I had a quick question I’m from Los Angeles and I was curious is life way more expensive than LA or almost the same so I know how to save?
Hi. Just wondering why you didn’t mention gyms name. That expensive 90$ a month, even for 1 person. A friend of mine moved there recently. I will share some of your tips. Thanks
Do you think 120k a year for me and my wife would be enough to live in Hawaii? We are currently saving and would like to have 10 - 25k if not more saved before we move. We loved Hawaii and love the people and culture. We are just scared we won’t be able to afford anything we live in a more expensive area of Charlotte nc and are bit more accustomed to paying for high expenses We love the videos!
We think so! That should be enough to have a good life here in Hawaii. A nice apartment, enough money to do all your groceries, eat out and even put money on the side every month! It sounds like you guys have thought it out, especially with the extra savings you’re saving up now. 🤙
What makes you think you have the right to make videos about “Hawaii”? Do you have any ancestral background in Hawaii? What’s your lineage? Blood quantum? Or at the very least, a Hawaiian culture class? How do you feel you have the right to exploit this beautiful land that I’m from with no understanding of what the Hawaiian culture even is or embodies. What you do here on UA-cam is truly ignorant. Not sure what your guys view is, but from my perspective and just about every Kanaka and/or Hawaii born I know of. This is truly heartless and ignorant. If I could suggest something, live the island life, meet local people and educate yourself before you try to educate others
So tell me one thing, are You going to educate yourself, truly dive deep into someone's culture, values, traditions and history before You go to let's say Poland, Morocco, India, Bali, Tunisia, Peru, Germany, Canada etc.??? Are going to talk with local, native people being in that particular country? Are going to respect all of their traditions, customs and everything?? Because if not then please stop being hypocrite. If You want Hawaii to be respected as a country and Hawaiian people as well then You first have to respect other countries and other people. Most (if not all countries) can say that they were either attacked by others, colonised, almost erased and it doesn't excuse them (and people living in these countries) to act superior or act like an assholes because they're from a particular place on Earth.... We all are one huge community, one huge collective being as a human beings and no one is better or worse. We are all one after all and keeping this dividing attitude isn't helpful at all... Maybe focus on yourself instead of attacking innocent, great and kind woman under her video on UA-cam.... I don't see here any exploitation, so why are You accusing her of doing this? Where do you have any proof that she doesn't understand Hawaiian culture? Did she do anything that might be a proof of exploiting land or native people? Because I don't think so. And generalisation isn't a good thing to do. I get it - it's marvellous to come somewhere to understand that place, to understand native people, to live the way they live, to become part of larger native community, to live accordingly to that place and its values, lifestyle and customs - I do get it, it's great vision! And if I were in that position I would definitely do that (I will try my best to live like a native and connect with whole Hawaiian spirit, islands and local people). Because I do see importance of that and because I am the way I am. But at the same time it doesn't mean that all people who are not doing this are ignorant, exploiting lands, don't have any rights to make videos about a particular place....No...They still have that right to do whatever they want to do. You can't restrict other people because You think You know better and You judge them accordingly to Your own belief system. And what is kinda "funny" is that your attitude like this isn't helpful at all and even worse - it might be repelling for others. So You might be actually doing the reverse You wanted to do with this comment. Because in my opinion it would be way more encouraging to see some kind words (your general nice attitude) showing how native people are really great and loving people, seeing that embodiment of Ohana as well as Mahalo and Aloha in practice. Because You know what? Being passive aggressive has the reverse effect. It's the same with let's say vegans...(I am one) and I see some vegans insulting and offending meat eaters, arguing with them and it has the exact opposite effect they want to reach - They're repulsing meat eaters and making this weird and not good outlook that vegans are like this and this, that vegans are like that and that....And at the same time I see some other vegans that calmly remind themselves and others as well how important, beneficial for health and planet as well is being vegan and eating more fruits and veggies. I see at the same time some other vegans encouraging meat eaters to try some delicious vegan dishes to show them it can be both healthy and tasty. Some other vegans that with passion are promoting healthy lifestyle as well as vegan products, that genuinely want to show others with kindness how important being vegan is. And they are doing this with compassion, love, kindness instead of hatred, frustration, passive aggression. But You know what? Thet could've done it with anger showing some unpleasant pics of animals being slaughtered, abused, harmed...They could've done it with all other emotions and attitudes but some of them know that it would only make it harder to get to these people and eventually discourage meat eaters to even try something new.... So once again I suggest You kindly to look at Yourself, to dive deeper in Yourself and evaluate Your own belief system, attitudes, stereotypes, prejudice and bias about others. Because our own behaviours, thoughts, words and deeds are reflections of ourselves not other people. I wish You lots of love, happiness, peace, fulfilment and joy in life as well as other great things You might want! Stay positive! Best wishes Damian

That means a lot to us! It will all be worth it in the end.
And Amazon is opening a distribution center in Hawaii soon
Number 3 is hard anywhere but even harder in Hawaii with all the great options! Great video guys!
Thanks! And it definitely is... To us, the best foods on the island are definitely poké and ramen. Not good for our budget... ;)
Another great vid guys 🙌🏽 watched this one too! Very helpful
These are really great suggestions! and this is such an important topic to be discussing at the moment, I really enjoyed the video!

I love your videos about the move to Hawai’i! I hope to move there for Medical school in two years, and stay there for a career as a physician! 🎊
Glad you like it! :) And potentially moving to Hawaii in 2 years is exciting!!

Good tip! 🤙
Loved the video! Very random question but what was the hike at time stamp 3:16? It looked beautiful!
That was Maunawili. We made a video about that too, if you want to see the full hike! :) Thanks for watching!
I have Xfinity for my cell carrier what is the best to have that doesn’t drop calls? Did you keep the same carrier when you moved
We kept our Sprint (now T-Mobile) plan when we moved to the island. It's not the best but it gets the job done.
Please find out if Hawaii have
Senior Citizens and AARP discounts?
If yes, what places honor those discounts?
Thank you two for the tips.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Hello I been watching a couple of your videos and they are great! I had a quick question I’m from Los Angeles and I was curious is life way more expensive than LA or almost the same so I know how to save?
Thanks! Well, we have talked to someone who used to live in Orange County in LA and he said it was cheaper to live here, then in OC. Hope this helps!
I have seen a comment somewhere, where a person who lived in CA said it's cheaper to live in Hawaii.
@@DennyandNikki ok thank you so much!
bruh I was born on Oahu idk why I'm watching this but I like your videos on hikes

There's Planet Fitness in Hawaii between 10-20 dollars a month
buy a Prius... 45 miles per gallon
Prius is the way to go! 🤙
Do you think someone with an income of $3500 a month can do okay In Hawaii?
Yes, it’s possible but you would need to budget carefully.
