But seriously, how do you have so many rats and mice in your barn? Do you live in a particularly infested area? I catch mice in my garage but after about 3, I don't have any more till next season etc... If I smoked to catch any more I'd have to get them from Amazon : )
I always knock in 3 small nails from under the trap at the end of the kill bar so they stick upwards, when the trap goes off there is less of a chance of the rat escaping because it gets stuck on the nails as well. Gruesome idea but it does work.
At one point I had a problem with rats and mice. I modified my rat traps in a different way than you show but it was very similar and I also increased my kill rate to what i estimated to be 90% at the time. The box is a great idea for a number of reason, I like it!
My friend has a bunch of birds that are being killed by rats, but she can't set up any traps or her birds will get into them. I've been looking for ways to stop this and I'm so glad I found your channel. Keep up the great work!
That poor mouse hitting that rat trap. Just a snap and he's off in the afterlife. Kinda funny and rather impressive build! Hats off to ya and keep up the excellent content!
Excellent! I like the seed idea, I have 20 traps setup already, three buckets and many single traps, I'll get this Project started right away. We are remote in the New Mexico desert, many mice and Pack Rats.
right on ! i think that is a very good idea ! i thought those kind of traps should come with a one way box to keep rats or nice form coming onto the trap from the side or rear ... thanks for the video
I really like you new trap box. I would love to see a test, with four different soft smelly baits, could you include peanut butter. And No sunflower seeds. So it a true bait comparison. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
I love these videos, but I was wondering if another rat would come along if one was killed. Rats are amazing in their intelligence, I think the only way to effectively kill a lot of rats was your use of the non-poison Corrn in "RatX". I will never forget that video.
Do you have dimensions or plans for this? As a greenhouse grower we are always battling rodents. I’ve watched many of your videos. This looks like the most effective design. I like the tomcats because they are much easier to set but seem less effective than the victor snap traps.
I’m gonna have to try this ,I have a rat or more in my crawl space, been battling them for years,I’ve had 2 pest control companies come out,I’ve inspected every inch of the exterior of the house and sealed up any suspicious entry points with 20 gauge 1/4”grate wire mesh,I have cleaned and rebated all the traps, bait stations,I don’t know how they are getting in the crawl space, recently I had a ladder setup next to the roof and caught one on my security camera climbing the ladder and jumping about a foot and a half to the roof,so I wonder if the have a path from roof to under house
I find it almost comical how everyone here is enthralled with catching mice and rats. I really like the new design, although, I would put a luggage handle on the front to easily carry the whole trap, dead rats and all, outside for disposal.
Great trap. Currently experiencing problems with rats in my attic. Do you spray the traps with anything to get rid of your human scent? I heard that rats will not go near if they smell the scent of a human.
Does anyone have tips on how to keep out chipmunks and squirrels? I want to leave the traps out during the day but have been unintentionally catching other animals. Is there a bait that only rats would like? .
I made this after watching your older video on this, but I had trouble because they would all go off when one was triggered. I had to bend the metal trigger piece so it wasn't as sensitive. Plus, I added metal spikes made from hardware staples, all over the base. So far, no rats have escaped. I hate rats :( If only they had cute little tails like squirrels...
@@gcorc It'll catch any rodent. The metal spikes are a definite must! It's quite impossible to move the trigger and get away. I added about 20 small spikes all over the trap :) Works like a charm. Cheap and effective.
It's known as "sympathetic firing" when traps set off their neighbours. Try putting pieces of an old towel or 2 layers of denim the size of the traps underneath them. They act like shock-absorbers. How likely they are to go off does depend on how sensitive the setting is, of course. Made2catch's metal traps have teeth on their base, so they'll save you time modifying things. IMO, they're a better trap. Shawn is a fan of them.
If I may, Owltra sells a rat trap and a mouse trap. The local mice don’t seem to like to squeeze into the mice traps, I’ve only killed one mouse in those. I’ve killed many mice in the rat traps. I love your experiments
My neighbors whose backyard abuts mine pretty much have a rat factory with the haphazard way they "feed the birds", and I'd buy Rat-X in bulk of only the f'ers would actually *eat* it, but they don't, not with tastier stuff around. Anyone know how to make this kind of trap selective so that squirrels *won't* get "sanctioned"?
Loved the video, as always. However, 3:45 of trapping and 4:00 of critters, seemed underwhelming. Not fussing. Only a observation. Looking forward to the next video. Tks and stay safe.
This would also help keep small children out with a little longer tunnel and a lock for the lid. I wonder if the rat traps would work for squirrel in a survival situation?
None of the rats/mice by me seem to be interested in it. Might taste yicky, because they seem to prefer the tastier stuff my across-the-yard neighbors toss out for the birbs, and eschew the Rat-X.
@@joeschmo622 I agree with you, I tried Rat-X, the rats showed no interest. From what I read, Rat-X only works if there is no other food source. When there are other food sources, like dumpsters outside a restaurant or bird seed spilled from feeders, rats will eat that instead. I wish the manufacturers of Rat-X would reformulate the product so that it tastes good. The manufacturers of Rat-X should mix in sugars or fats to make it more palatable to rats.
@@hamsterama I was thinking of either dabbing some peanut oil or peanut butter on the nuggets, both for the stank to lure them in, as well as the taste. _Mmm, here, yummy poison!_

Idea for you: I'd love to see the greatest mousetrap with a gopro poking through seeing the trap work from the inside.
More, More, More of this trap please! More of the Shawn Woods' Bathroom Stalls of Death Trap!
All the wild animals in your area must think the beaver dam is a magical buffet restaurant !

i use 5 and i barb them with a file caught about 7 rats that were trying to eat my grapes
תודה!

The raccoon ate the mouse as an appetizer, and had the rat for the main course.

*Raccoon:* Mmm~ _nom nom_ My compliments to the chef~!
When a man secures a trap set for a rat..... you know its not his 1st time settting traps 😂
Shout out to all the mobsters here by mistake.
Ah Haaa, I see what you did there.
I'm still trying to find a way to trap those damn weasels

What would you like as an appetizer?
Rocky: I'll take a native deer mouse
and for your main course?
Rocky: I think I'll go with the brown rat.....
Excellent! I like the seed idea, I have 20 traps setup already, three buckets and many single traps, I'll get this Project started right away. We are remote in the New Mexico desert, many mice and Pack Rats.
I've never had a triggered trap without a dead rat in it, but thankfully I've only had to use one a few times.

I really love to see the huge experience you have built up during the past years! Super :)
Eh,... I don't think I'll ever see a better mouse trap than the five gallon bucket.
This is a rat trap, not a mouse trap.
Maybe a 20 gallon bucket with water or a 13 gallon kitchen trash bin, again - with water.
It came to my mind your video of the rat disabling a snap trap with a stick 😂

Seems super versatile. Any reason this trap wouldn't work on chipmunks, squirrels, or other rodents too? (Assuming the bait attracts them.)
My dog and I love watching your videos! Nice trap assembly. 👍🏻👍🏻
Definitely need to put peanut butter and/or suet into the bait section ...
Will this work for squirrels?
Still waiting on the upsized 55-gallon drum and salad bowl lid rat version of the five-gallon bucket, plate, and string trap from last week.
Still waiting!

It’s easy, you don’t need plans 😂
there was an interesting style of rat trap i had seen from new zealand, similar in style to this
That racoon was enjoying a lot! We all share his happiness.
It will work even better now after a kill since new rats will smell the presence of previous rat.
have you tested devices that makes sounds that mouse and rats hate as a repellent?
I would catch rats just to watch the racoon feast
I like how you completed the circle of life.
I've always wondered if a mouse or rat has a disease and another animal eats it will it automatically get the same disease??????
nice to see you out smart a brown rat I hate those things
Always the racoons eat everything.
I'm a city boy, it surprised me to see what eats those carcasses.
nice one Cyril
What trail camera do you use?
Fantastic idea
Wouldn't the traps being so close to each other have a high chance of setting each other off?
Not of the mass of the device is enough to dampen the shock
Quite inspirational!

you should have used plexiglass on the lid

Pretty good and after it done eating the seeds it will eat the dead rat

Ironic how youtube anti trapping policies lead to deadlier designs.
Haven’t watched this yet, but pretty excited about it. Mice=easy. Rats=not so easy.
