My dear sweet friend Chris Ethridge is playing bass on this. I love this......back up singers and the band are jammin! And Ry Cooder is awesome. I miss Chris every damn day. Rest in Peace my friend. I love you, Sandy
I’m lovin’ it too. Sitting here reminiscing about the love of my life who moved onward and upward last year and missing him every damn day too ! Rock On Brian. Can’t wait to see you again ❤️
@@jamesmeakin7673 Sorry, but this is Bobby King (tenor), Pico Payne (baritone) and Willie Green Jr. (bass). Terry Evans, Arnold McCuller and Bobby King sing with Ry and The Moula Banda Rythm Aces five years later.
I saw the whole program, recorded it on video and watched it over and over again. It was a classic performance, I wish the other songs were on here as well. My parents eventually recorded over the video and I thought I would never see this again.
I watched this show as it aired and was mesmerised by the backing singers, Many years later saw Amy Winehouse perform and now realise that her backing singers had the same vibe. Enchanting🧡🎶
I've always loved Ry Cooder's version of this song. It's got all the fun, rock and roll and 'having a good time' qualities that we used to hear from Rod Stewart and The Faces.
My number one. I love Mr. Cooder's music please buy/download/whatever paradise and lunch, into the purple valley, chicken skin music, bop till you drop, and whatever else you see ... nobody ever has done it better. Thanks Ry
WOW WOW WOW From a mad keen 73yo Aussie fan. BLOODY FANTASTIC!!!!! The brilliance of Ry Cooder together with some amazing performers. Don't the back up trio Rock!!!!
I went through late High school in Australia listening to this and loved it - converted a few mates too, pity I didn`t follow up with some of Cooder`s best stuff until I was too old to hear it properly !!
Such a wonderful set. I remember watching when it was first shown here in England and then years later finding a bootleg tape in my local record shop of the performance. Happy memories...
MLIN20. When i first saw this video, I was mesmerized by his eye. I watched it several times I finally googled " Ry Cooder's Eye ", and lo and behold I immediately came up with an article about his glass eye. It seems that when he was 4 years old he accidentally, stabbed himself in the eye. It turned out to be quite a serious injury requiring a long time recovery. As I understand it , he came from a musical family and a family friend came to see him in his bed recuperating at four years old and the friend put his guitar on Ry's chest and started playing something. Ry later said, " I don't know what I thought, but I know what I felt”. Ry Cooder started playing the guitar at age four.
What a great band this was! Saw them at the Victoria Apollo in October 1980, one of my five best ever gigs. I second the proposal that the Beeb should rebroadcast the whole of the concert.
I actually became aware of this amazing musician when working with Don Tosti. My God, can he play. Very originol, giving latin boogie a bit of soul..very nice, a fan since late seventies. muy bien!
A 73 year old here shaking and jiving to such an old time classic!!!@
I want whatever the drummer's on (1:10) 😁
Those backup vocalists elevate this song to a whole new level.
Best comment ever.

How terrible.
Damn right they should repeat this concert in full, one of the best ones they ever had on OGWT.
Amazing how Ry takes these old songs changes them around and makes them his own.
I watched this show as it aired and was mesmerised by the backing singers, Many years later saw Amy Winehouse perform and now realise that her backing singers had the same vibe. Enchanting🧡🎶
We had the great joy of getting to see ry in Belfast some years ago. What an absolute thrill.
What a version this is. ROCKS.
I've always loved Ry Cooder's version of this song. It's got all the fun, rock and roll and 'having a good time' qualities that we used to hear from Rod Stewart and The Faces.
