Ry is Ry and the Stones are the Stones. Don't buy into the Stones screwing Ry, they, like many bands, didn't credit Ry with his contributions but he should have known that going in. It's also a myth that Ry taught Keith how to play open tunings... Keith played lots of stuff in open tunings before they ever met. That said, I'm a big Ry Cooder fan and in no way have anything bad to say about him.
Great track!! Also recommended: the version of the Dutch pride "Bintangs", with the great - 17 years old - Japie Castricum on the slide guitar? LP "Genuine Bull" - try UA-cam !!!
I am pretty sure they did write the lyrics (and music). I seem to recall one of them saying they summoned all of their mojo to write the song. They thought Randy Newman would be perfect for singing it, and he was.
after looking at the credits at the end of the 1970 movie, Performance, and the liner notes on the vinyl LP soundtrack album, I think you're right ... got it a bit mixed up because Keith and Mick Jagger wrote the song, Memo From Turner ... am a fan of Keith & the Xpensive Winos as well ... thanks for the comment.
@@craigtrexler8156 titleman wrote it with nitczhe, that much i know, on soundtrack it says its george...who knows...but i know its nott keith...as much as i would like it, richards rythm and ry on a slide, it would be heaven...
You are right, and because the song, Gone Dead Train is from over 50 years ago, I misremebered that it was Keith. Keith and Mick Jagger wrote, Memo From Turner, another great song from the movie, Performance by Donald Cammell and Nicholas Roeg.
The song appears to be about a guy with ED in the days before Viagra existed. "My engine pumping steam, I was grinding at you hard-and-fast/ I was burning down the rails to heat the way, haulin' ass and riding up the track/ And I laughed at the conductor, tellin' me my coal would never last..... When the fire in my boiler up and quit before I came/ There aint no empty cellar, need a Gone Dead Train..... Once was a time when I could mama shave em' dry/ And raise a fever [from an] ice bone chill, Waitin' at the station with a heavy loaded sack/ Savin' up and hopin' just to spill...... Shootin' my supply through my demon's eye, instead of holdin' my time, I hope I will..... When the fire in my boiler up and quit before I came, there aint no empty cellar, need a Gone Dead Train..... Yes it's a Gone Dead Train, got to help it burn/ you know it's a gone dead train, You got to teach it to learn..... There aint no easy way, when your daily run's a downhill pull/ And there aint no easy day, wishing for some jelly roll..... There ain't no switch been made, to make your juicy lemon find a spring to run a dry well full....." And by the way, some sites list the lyrics as having been written by Jack Nitzsche and Russ Titelman, while others list it as written by Randy Newman....

The band is Jerry Scheff on bass, Gene Parsons on drums, Ry Cooder on Slide guitar and Russ Titelman on rhythm guitar.-
This was from Performance, 1969 Mick movie, jűs sāyīn !😎✌😎!
It says as much in the description. 🌈
After Ry’s experience with Mick and Keith back in about ‘68 I’d be amazed if he ever collaborated with mr.Richards again.

@@TeleCaster66 In Keith's autobiography 'Life' Keith writes "I have to tip my hat to Ry Cooder, he showed me the open G tuning."
I remember that . He said the Stones ripped him off .
" shooting my supply through the demon eye"
Danny Whitten RIP
Sounds like Livin on the open road Delaney and Bonnie with Duane

Super 🎸🙃
Some websites list the lyrics as having been written by Jack Nitzsche and Russ Titelman rather than Randy Newman.

Nadie puede cantarla mejor.

Wikipedia says it's Ry on Slide and Russ Titleman on guitar

That would be cool if it was Lowell. Lowell and Ry - 2 of the greatest slide players ever.
When's the footage from? Late 90s? 00s?
SkyTrain video July 2002
Hardly . That's probably around 1969 .

That's not Keith. Great song, I have it in my collection but Keith is not on this.

So they used the King Solomon Hill song from 1932 as a theme. Cool enough. But I vastly prefer The King :D
Always liked the song , but an't understand what Randy is saying, or singing .
