    Great explanation, thank you! Perhaps you might consider a full tutorial on getting the Cargo Pads working. Mine never do, okay, I think ONCE they worked as intended. Yours clearly ARE working so I'd love a tutorial on how you set those up so they work properly!

    • @vastant
      @vastant  8 місяців тому +2

      I will have to look into why they don't work first. Perhaps the new patch has fixed this. I haven't spent much time on them as I don't like how they have been implemented. They should have been more like Fallout 4, creating a link for your outpost inventories.

    I am just avoiding playing this aspect of the game for now its time consuming and frustrating, I can not believe they got it so wrong when FO4 did it surprisingly well.

      If you keep your outposts simple, it's worth it, but you can skip by having essentially a flying outpost.

    Excellent explanation to understand the bug is caused by the manual action thank you !

  • @rhemaman
    @rhemaman 7 місяців тому +2

    Why is it that everybody seems to think that it is a malfunction in the system when manual placement of objects within the cargo bins remains fixed while links through the transfer container do not? Certainly, everybody must realize that we need both of those systems available to us, and the fact that they made them both available is a success.
    Use the transfer container only at the moment you wish to insert or remove a large amount of material to and from a large stack of containers impossible to reach and do manually. This helps when you have a starport with stacks of ten or more high and they're scattered all throughout the shipping yard. For the smaller rarer quantity stuff, you can go one or two high and use the manual method.
    They made it possible to do both and both are useful.

    6:00 To me, according to the in game description of the transfer container, it was only meant as an outgoing transfer. You link whatever you produce at your outpost to this container and you can retrieve the items from your ship, with no need to go outside. Till I saw videos about this subject, I had never ever thought of transfer containers as an ingoing transfer, I don't feel that it was intended that way.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      I don't think it was either but it has been since day 1 because the information provided by Bethseda is limited to say the least. This is why I created the video because i felt there hadn't been enough emphasis on this.

    when i wanted to have a big resource dump at an outpost, i just used the xfer container as the starting point for the distribution. It was great because its the one object you can use to dump all 4 types of resources. If you connect it to banks of gas/liquid/solid/mfr storage units, anything you put in here will go to the right type of storage automatically. It just doesn't work with some oddball things that don't really fit in the main 4 categories, and that's fine.
    Now that Creations has launched, I just use DarkStar astrodynamics and manufacturing mods to simplify outposts since the landing pad in that mod has massive storage, so you don't need to create large banks of storage anymore.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  4 місяці тому +1

      The transfer container worked fine like this unless there was an automatic input from something else like a cargo link or resource collector. Then, adding manually to the TC would break the links. There is a chest that you can link to that will accept the other items not covered by the 4, but unfortunately, it accepts all items, including the 4. So it was useless in the end.

    • @blackfish95
      @blackfish95 4 місяці тому

      @@vastant Yes, i tried that chest idea. The only way it worked is if i put in those items destined for the chest one by one. Now I just use DarkStar Astrodynamics and Manufacturing mods, which completely change how I set up an outpost for the better. Being SB should mean I have access to better technology, so it works for my head canon :)

    An added idea for a video is using the Storage Crates within a hab to store excess Storage Container Resources using the resource link to the Storage crates within the hab. This allows you to access multiple resources within an outpost quickly inside the hab with multiple storage crates. I use these alot to solve many issues. Many players might not know you can do this with one of the storage crate types.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому +1

      Sure I'll have a look into it. Do you know which crate it is? I did think about that when it released last year but didn't find one. Thanks for the idea.

    • @Tim_from_Fresno
      @Tim_from_Fresno 9 місяців тому

      It's the large black crate. I've never really messed around with it but it does allow you to daisy chain them together. I never got it to work right but I am going to test it out using the method you used on the container only method.

    • @elfpimp1
      @elfpimp1 9 місяців тому

      Doesn't the game automatically draw from crates, ship and collectors already?

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      I tested it out and it works but the problem is that it can take anything, materials, equipment, meds etc. On top of that it can be stacked so it's not really feasible to use with a transfer container which is a shame. It also doesn't work linking them and adding items manually. It would be great if it did.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      It does draw from them but you have to add items manually. Even though you can link them, as soon as you add an item manually the link doesn't work.

    The description says that simply having the container is supposed to allow you to access the outpost's storage containers from the ship, but like you said, it's not explained on how this works.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      There are quite a few aspects that are properly explained. I feel the game was rushed at the end to get it out. Not sure if this was Microsoft's doing or not though.

    If they would allow the transfer container to be infinite in its capacity that would be great.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      They can't otherwise people would just use it to store stuff. They just need to make it a trigger for accessing the inventory system for an outpost as well, with the additional storage types specifically for outposts.

  • @darrennew8211
    @darrennew8211 9 місяців тому +1

    TIL you can delete a link without deleting the end of the link. It would be great, tho, if the transfer container on hydraulic supports could hold more stuff than I can carry in my pockets. Also, if you're mining lots of different things, the transfer container takes what seems like a random assortment of each - there's no balance.
    Also, you can move your marker after you place it, and the area it covers won't change.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому +1

      As I mentioned in the video, the transfer container should not hold anything and just be an inventory trigger. So when you place it you just have access to an inventory screen same as your ship.

    • @darrennew8211
      @darrennew8211 9 місяців тому

      @@vastant Does it work for stuff that's not in the container? You can access all the contents of all the containers in the outpost? Because that would be cool. I didn't find it working that way, but I might have done something wrong.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      Unfortunately, no it doesn't. You can only see what's actually in the transfer container from your ship inventory. I wish you could see your entire outpost inventory but you can't. Perhaps they will change that in the future.

    My outpost, with 2 resources, fills the transfer container with one resource. Blocking the other resource. its a real pain.

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      A workaround is to put storage containers for each resource near where you spawn so you can just access them directly and take what you need. Just adds another step in the process. Unfortunately, that doesn't help with cargo link outposts.

    can you send things from the ship to the TC then to the associated storage?

    • @vastant
      @vastant  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, but you have to do it from the TC inventory, and you can not have any incoming links to the TC from things such as cargo links or resource collectors. Otherwise, it will break the outgoing links from the TC.

    The problem w the transfer container is very simple.. say for an iron or aluminum mine.. you pop the container from your ship and you can only grab around 600 resources before you have to back out of the inventory and go back in to make it refresh. Same w just walking up to the transfer container itself. Which.. if you’re only mining 600 resources .. is fine. Problem is, I build crap like amp farms which yield 10-15k argon, metabolic agent, and toxic - at a clip. It’s mind numbing to have to jump back and forth in the menu instead of letting me just grab it all in 1 damn shot. The only thing MORE mind numbing is then sitting infront of the med machine and only being able to crank out 99 amp at a time. Like.. seriously?

    • @vastant
      @vastant  9 місяців тому

      Agreed, that's why they just need to change the way the transfer container works and it just becomes an inventory trigger/interface similar to the one used for ships.
