Outpost building is great, it makes the game so much more interesting and research and crafting is no issue when you have you network all set up where all your outposts send resources to your main outpost.

It seems silly - but the tip that you can move your outpost beacon after initial placement is REALLY helpful. Honestly the lack of instructions regarding controls for things in this game has been my biggest spot of contention. To have to have other people explain or just stumble upon the controls myself is absolutely horrendous. Otherwise Starfield is an amazing game.
Question. I don't know if it is a glitch or a mess up on their part. But say you build two outpost. one near the Starter area and the next near a level 75 area. I was able to travel between my two outpost without doing short hops. Guess you can say a fast travel spot.
It going to need to create He3 resources hubs to send stuff all to oneain outpost and automate everything id suggest only building in systems with he3 in them so I can send he3 to it to ship stuff off.
The benefit of the scan booster has nothing to do with resources. It's a defensive tool. It allows you to highlight attachers who are outside of your base from much further away. So, that you can see where you are being attacked from and respond before they are inside your base already doing damage. Is it a high value building? No. Does it have a purpose beyond what is described in this video? Yes.
Can look at ship inventory but not access it from anywhere on the planet. Also when leaving planet and then using map to land ship, fails going to same spot unless I build a landing pad…frustrating
It bugs a lot when you move it unfortunately. I moved my beacon, and now I can't quick travel to the base, only to the original landing area nearby Anyone know a fix for this?
@@ThomasPurcell I haven’t encountered this issue as of yet But I know some other outpost bugs for example the eternal spinning wheel in aerial build mode and some random lighting issues when moving buildings around can be fixed by making a quick save in your outpost and reloading it Maybe give that a go and see if that helps?
@@meat-hook I found a fix to it....there is a red circle inside the yellow circle base limits. You can see it from the 'View " position. Move the beacon into the red circle area and the base will become visible again.
@@ThomasPurcell I was in top-down when I moved it. I land on the pad, and everything works. I'm hoping it's a bug that works in my favor. That big pad is really big and kills some of my layout needs. If I can move the beacon to where the border is only overlapping a bit of the pad is be stoked.
Floating habs is really cool... but I cannot even get habs to go on top of other habs as it always shows red, driving me mad as it worked with my first character and now it refuses with every other character ive made so I'm stuck with single story structures now 😔
Be very careful when building mannequins and turrets. Ive had mannequins dissappear randomly and then sometime randomly reappear. 4 of the 6 turrets are gone....?
I wonder if the turrets got destroyed by raiders? Not sure if they can attack when you are away or not. I've had Spacers attack an Outpost when I have arrived there before
@TheBeardGuys if they did, I couldn't imagine that the turrets would still show up in my base building as "4/6 built". Unless that's an over site by BGS and when a turret is destroyed you can't rebuild. Maybe.
By chance did you put the turrets on top of a habitat? I stopped doing this in my outposts as the turrets would disappear. Had to delete the habitat's for them to show back up.
When you're in the game, flailing the view around is all right, but if you're going to make videos for others to see, flailing the camera around fast and wild can get confusing.
Any chance you know when i go to global view that i cant build or do anything? (Only happening at one outpost. I can get you a video if needed to show what its doing) love your videos. Thought you might know the issue
I've had a similar issue today, I can't deselect items in the build menu and workbenches all say they are blocked. Had to just save and load game and it worked again
Inventory is an absolute joke. I find myself without the most ridiculous resources in the middle of nowhere. Everything useful needs a completely different list of resources. It's stupid.
You are 💯 per cent correct sir. I've advanced skills and research enough I can build all power generators including the advanced. They require a part called TASINE superconductor or something. Problem is that is a unique element and there is only one planet that has it and it is truly on the edge of the universe map.
The game tells you about what scan boosters are actually for and where the mats go and where they come from when building. Best Starfield tip: Read the tips and quit mashing buttons like your mom crossed with a impatient toddler peeps.
The problem with outpost building is that all you is mine elements to make materials for more outpost building. This design should have been tied to the story where the outpost you build can turn into a center of operation for ongoing missions. As it stands, you build only to be be able to continue building with no other benefit. Unless, at 120 hours, I haven’t yet reached a point to continue building.
It used to be that starships used He3 when jumping. So to explore the higher level areas youd need a network of outposts not only funneling fuel but resources to build medpacks and drugs for combat.
@@SuwinTzi I don’t know if it’s because I play on Very Hard or just lucky, but atleast 8/10 enemies I kill drop a medpack or medicine. I had to start storing it in my ship.
I ignored outpost building in my first 100+ hour playthrough, but in my current playthrough I did it from level 1, it completely changes the game, you can do the research in no time and all crafting is very easy because you have everything at your main outpost. It's also very good for farming xp and sell stuff for cash.
As an RP in my game, the reason my toon has it's wanted bounty is due to drug manufacturing while trying to set up an independent pharmaceutical company their competitor doesn't approve of. I sunk one point into botany early on (which allows scanning plants to determine if they can be grown at outposts) and started an outpost producing large amounts of Amp. As I have progressed I added Chemistry, which I have maxxed. I can now make all kinds of wild pharmaceuticals, including some wildly powerful ones I haven't seen anywhere else, after adding "Special projects" research. I may add zoology as well to see what items I can produce raising animals. I couldn't care less about minerals, I have only ever had the one outpost making Alum and Iron. This has accelerated my levelling without feeling artificially grindy like making HUGE bulks of random stuff has because my toon makes a batch of Amp daily as an RP thing and sells it to fund further research and exploration. This RP "purpose" of my toon's life gives me reason to visit and explore planets and scan plants and maybe soon, animals; seeking to find new resources to expand into new products. As I hit NG+1, it was fun rebuilding Amp Camp with the highest tier stuff instead of the first go round, and then decorating the place to LOOK like a pharmaceutical lab. I am now trying to figure out where to source all the ingredients for other aid items most efficiently. Making up my own "mission" in the game has added a ton of fun. Sure I am willing to do the Constellation and other stuff, but even the main quest is a side quest for me. My toon isn't just some factions errand boy, it has it's own life goals as a semi shady cyber runner, and everything else is just interesting stuff I did along the way during my own adventure.
Different resource types on the orbital scanner can indicate different biomes. This video shows an example of that where Iron was often located in the 'Hills' biome. So you're looking for areas where large deposits press against each other. That border area will likely have different biomes as you click. Once you find a point like that and land, bring up the Surface Map and look for shifts in topography. That tends to be the border point; also handy to find the ocean in coastal areas in order to scan aquatic critters.
Ok, I've watched a ton of outpost building videos and none of y'all are explaining what I will call, building for dummies. Y'all hover in the air and still move stuff like you would think would happen just moving the mouse around. But when I do that all it does is zoom in and out on the map, nothing moves. Also when I place habs, then go to add another, the 1st one simply vanishes. Or my multiple story habs try to bury all but the top level. I've pushed and clicked every button I can think of to make it work like y'all and nothing works! I am on PC by the way.
Possibly select the item first! Place the item, then select it to move it around. It might take a few tries but you can do it. I had the same issue with the ship building and it was quite frustrating as the camera moves around in seemingly unpredictable ways at times. But you’ll figure it out 💪🏽 Best of luck! P.s. maybe play around with the ship builder. Just delete an item on the ship and then undo the action to build confidence
@@false_critic It's not the shipbuilder I am having problems with. It's the outpost building. I build a hab and go to add onto it and it simply disappears. Or 2/3 of if is underground and unusable. I can't figure out how to move the structure up so it is on the ground properly.
@@LoneWolf0568 Okay! Try this: Step 1: Place the Hab Step 2: Select the Hab Step 3: Move the hab **Take note that placing the hab from the outpost menu and moving it are two different steps** It sounds frustrating though, sorry to hear about the issues. I’ll reply when I can but I won’t stop replying until we find a solution :)
You know how finding the "sweet spot" really goes? --> running around in circles like a headless chicken... 😂😁😜 Yeah yeah, it's a bit annoying because the planet map only gives you a rough estimation where resource veins converge. You really only can run around with the beacon in your hands and watch the top left corner - until you FINALLY find a spot with all desired resources... ✌
I hope bugthesda do something on structure id instead because if want to use console command to adjust position, I need to find every parts and individually command. Very very troublesome.

You can also sell your planetary scan data for a nice chunk of change
Yup, and make sure you sell it to Vladimir on the Eye and you get the best price (plus he has a lot of cash)
Honestly the lack of instructions regarding controls for things in this game has been my biggest spot of contention. To have to have other people explain or just stumble upon the controls myself is absolutely horrendous. Otherwise Starfield is an amazing game.
The fact we can’t build security walls and doors really baffles me
Walls would be cool. I'm really excited to see what modding is going to bring to the game.
I just want to build a fence.
Excellent thanks
Question. I don't know if it is a glitch or a mess up on their part. But say you build two outpost. one near the Starter area and the next near a level 75 area. I was able to travel between my two outpost without doing short hops. Guess you can say a fast travel spot.
You can fast travel back and forth between 2 discovered locations all the time
@@TheGmanSpy As long as you're not overencumbered.
Yes.
Try right-clicking the mouse (on PC) when building.
How connect energy generator like solar panels beetween?
It will not let me build stacked habs how do you get it?
Good luck keeping anything you place inside your "glitchy" floaty buildings.
Can look at ship inventory but not access it from anywhere on the planet. Also when leaving planet and then using map to land ship, fails going to same spot unless I build a landing pad…frustrating
The outpost beacon determines where you spawn in when fast travelling to your base.
It bugs a lot when you move it unfortunately. I moved my beacon, and now I can't quick travel to the base, only to the original landing area nearby
Anyone know a fix for this?
@@ThomasPurcell I haven’t encountered this issue as of yet But I know some other outpost bugs for example the eternal spinning wheel in aerial build mode and some random lighting issues when moving buildings around can be fixed by making a quick save in your outpost and reloading it Maybe give that a go and see if that helps?
@@ThomasPurcellWait for the molders to fix it...
I keep loosing robots when I break down bases. There is no option to fire un needed staff. So if one misses a robot, they stay on the crew list.
Dude what did you do to Andreja? 😄
Floating habs is really cool... but I cannot even get habs to go on top of other habs as it always shows red, driving me mad as it worked with my first character and now it refuses with every other character ive made so I'm stuck with single story structures now 😔
How do you delet things ?
I just wanted to know how to make Doors on the inside of the habs 😢
The huge takeaway here is that you can make two story habitats.
Build two interlinked outposts next to each other for maximum pinachè
@AdamantJedi re-loaded the game several times and the turrets came back. But good to know.
"Hold down the pickup button..."
Which button is the 'pick up' button? I missed this.
Arrrgh, I can believe I didn't know that rotate thing with the containers.
79 ammo is making my anxiety high. That's not enough ammo!
This should be titles beginner tutorial
Good video but have you ever thought about using a pop filter? A lot of plosives from breathing on the mic.
The game tells you about what scan boosters are actually for and where the mats go and where they come from when building. Best Starfield tip:
Read the tips and quit mashing buttons like your mom crossed with a impatient toddler peeps.
Scan boosters speed up surveying
@@stacythomas9916 Interesting , Thank You . a fine idea. Have fun
I'm finding it very difficult to find the points between biomes. I've tried pixel by pixel and landed but couldn't find the other biome. Oh well!
I think it's a % chance so keep trying.
Sorry where is the link to the basic building guide?
In the description, and also here :) ua-cam.com/video/QiJm-7hWwls/v-deo.html
Try this:
Step 1: Place the Hab
Step 2: Select the Hab
Step 3: Move the hab
**Take note that placing the hab from the outpost menu and moving it are two different steps**
It sounds frustrating though, sorry to hear about the issues. I’ll reply when I can but I won’t stop replying until we find a solution :)
Hey its me again
You know how finding the "sweet spot" really goes? --> running around in circles like a headless chicken... 😂😁😜
Yeah yeah, it's a bit annoying because the planet map only gives you a rough estimation where resource veins converge. You really only can run around with the beacon in your hands and watch the top left corner - until you FINALLY find a spot with all desired resources... ✌
And it feels GREAT when you find the spot! 😄
What i hate is the structures are consisting multiple ref id, it means i can't make precision placement via console command, except decorations.
Yeah, that's the sort of thing that I hope gets QoL mods when the creation kit gets released.
@@choerm I'm waiting for place anywhere mod for Starfield.
I hope bugthesda do something on structure id instead because if want to use console command to adjust position, I need to find every parts and individually command. Very very troublesome.
OMG have you not even tried zooming the scanner at all?
I gone crazy with outpost building, even made 25k cargo ship for just building outposts and dont even have all the cargo perks yet so should be around 30k cargo size after leveling that up
im defintely going to make some cool outposts now after i saw that you can drag the bottom one out and game does not even build foundation after it theres been so many times when i tried to place something to specific spot thats cool and all but "FOUNDATION IS TOO TALL" Drives me nuts. why there is up and down button for foundation when you raise it by inch it cries that its too tall!!
