The best thing that happened for Miu is that it was caught on video. This girl's testimony bears little similarity on what actually happened along with most of the other testimonies from the "stabbing victims" I have never seen such a group of unreliable witnesses.

Then he calmly walks away as if nothing happened, discards the knife in the trees (conscious knowledge of guilt and disposal of evidence), and then walks to the opposite side of the river to rejoin his group. He did not try get help, for himself or any of his victims. Instead he convinced his group to continue their float down the river and left the victims for dead. After getting out of the water, he changed his clothes to disguise himself and then lied multiple times to police, because he didn’t know there was video of the encounter. This guy is an absolute psychopath, and no matter how loudly those kids were yelling at him, he initiated this encounter, refused to leave their space, and drew his weapon before anyone had touched or threatened him. Nothing about the way this guy created this situation or responded to it is defensible. The girls were the first to push him, then the young men launched an attack from all sides. They gave sworn affidavits, then their testimony greatly conflicted with their sworn statements. They testified they were terrified when the video was frozen, and you're seeing them dying of laughter in a state of drunken bliss, but claiming they were absolutely terrified of Nic Miu at that point. *We saw the same video you did, but you're another weirdo lying about what the video shows because they testified greatly indifferent to the video.* They all committed perjury. I read the indictments, and the indictment event summary from Deputy Shaeppi. It even states they were attacking him before he stabbed the 1st assailant. It states they continued to attack him when the 2nd was stabbed, and continued to attack him even once the 3rd was stabbed. It also depicts 2 of the assailants plunging their own bodies into the knife which is how AJ was disemboweled. He raked his own body across the knife by shoving Nic Miu down as hard as possible. Nic Miu is guilty of lesser charges like lying to police, tampering with evidence and so forth, but 1st degree murder and 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder are totally fraudulent. It was self defense at that point. They literally surrounded him from all sides, didn't care that he was looking for his property at that point, and launched an attack as a drunken mob from all sides. I would support appropriate charges against Miu, but this was turned into a witch hunt, and now I believe he should be acquitted and sue the attackers in civil court. They no longer deserve justice because the prosecutor created fraudulent charges and they're trying to give him life in prison. It's a river knife typically carried during tubing or rafting down rivers and used for rescue/emergencies, for example to cut a rope quickly in case of entanglements. Such as the ropes used to tie the tubes together.

We've all seen the video multiple times, stopping time and studying each frame, yet if you sit down now and write out this incident as detailed as possible (what everyone involved was doing, saying, wearing, timeline, etc) without abstraction or assumption, and then watched the video again you will find that your recall is severely lacking and often mistaken to varying degrees...

The one filming decided for some crazy reason he thought the older man was weird and declared that the man was looking for girls and called him a pedophile. The whole group started doing the same. Perfect example of people "seeing" what they want and being sympathetic towards those they associate with. So far, all the witnesses I have seen have very "selective" memories and are horrible witnesses. The state should have just presented the video and rested.
And telling the story. The defense is much better at creating a narrative although not always based on the evidence. He makes some assumptions not supported by evidence in order to further his narrative.
These kids don't know what they saw, and it's obvious that they have formed a story despite video evidence. Even the previous witnesses are admitting to what she says didn't happen, and she was sober! I know they experienced a traumatic event, but their trust in memories is scary. Then the prosecutor is trying to give her an out because the police didn't get as detailed and it's been two years. Even their attitude to the defense shows their inability to question what happened. The prosecutor says she didn't know the order and she agrees. The defense follows up, and she can't even agree that the group may have blocked her view- until there's a picture. I'm not saying they are outright lying, but someone filled the gaps in their memories with a story that just didn't happen.
Have you ever been shot or stabbed or directly involved in something similar? Because you keep talking about the video and her testimony not matching. But you have the luxury of watching it in slow motion and picking it apart. When the actual event happened in real time, it happens super fast. You see things but your brain can't register it immediately etc. Ove been shot , and we wrestled over the gun before it went off. Till this day I can't even tell you what really happened during the actual shooting. I remember immediately before it happened. And after. But I only remember bits and pieces of the actual incident happening

The thing that stands out most is this witness swears neither girl put their hands on the defendant and she is sure of this.. yet the video obviously contradicts that statement and also shows her view was obviously blocked. Yet she is also sure that the defendant punched the girl which took place at the almost the same instant and place from her perspective. How can you be so right about one yet so wrong on the other if you actually "seen" this interaction? Im surprised that the attorney for the defendant didnt point this out. This is just an observation of her deception and bias.. not on my view on guilt or innocence of the defendant.

I've sat as a juror for 6 weeks on a federal trial. He actually sounds just like the prosecution in that case. You may think he's not good, but he is exactly what they sound like. He stops himself because he has to ask questions in such a way there can be no holes in meaning by the defense. That is why it is choppy. The minimum amount of objections by the defense show how thorough his questioning is.
Maybe people should be a bit more careful with their mouths. Calling anyone those kinds of accusatory names can easily get out of hand like this did. You can get someone killed doing that. "He approached this group and got into their personal space first. He grabbed their tubes, and dropped his own damn snorkel because he had both hands on their tube.
They told him to leave multiple times before anyone had touched him. He just made creepy faces and refused to go on his way.
He brandished his knife and had it in his hand before anyone touched him.
You can’t see it in the video, but he did hit one of the girls before he was pushed into the water, as evidenced by her sunglasses being on her face just a moment prior and then missing when she comes into frame again. THAT’S when they started yelling at him and pushed him into the water.
This is when he sliced up the first guy’s stomach (in the orange shorts) and disemboweled him.
He then stabs the girl in the bikini in the back, when she wasn’t even facing him.
At this point people realize he is going on a stabbing spree and begin to run away. Instead of him doing the same (if he was truly afraid for his life), he stabs/disembowels 3 more of them, killing one.
Then he calmly walks away as if nothing happened, discards the knife in the trees (conscious knowledge of guilt and disposal of evidence), and then walks to the opposite side of the river to rejoin his group.
He did not try get help, for himself or any of his victims. Instead he convinced his group to continue their float down the river and left the victims for dead.
After getting out of the water, he changed his clothes to disguise himself and then lied multiple times to police, because he didn’t know there was video of the encounter.
This guy is an absolute psychopath, and no matter how loudly those kids were yelling at him, he initiated this encounter, refused to leave their space, and drew his weapon before anyone had touched or threatened him.
Nothing about the way this guy created this situation or responded to it is defensible. ESPECIALLY continuing to stab 3 more people after everyone started running away, and stabbing one of the victims in her back when she wasn’t even facing him."

He had been looking for his phone. They asked him what he was doing. He told him he was looking for his phone. He put his face back in the water and continued to look for his phone, and they were all screaming and yelling at him, and then he could hear the noise so he his head out of the water and when he did he sees cock holding out of phone, he thought it was his so that’s why he runs straight at the camera. He thinks it’s his phone and they’re trying to hand it to him, but when he gets there, he realizes it’s not his phone and that they’re not trying to hand it to him , they’re making fun of him and calling him a pedophile. He then tries to walk away but the water starts to get deep and his friends are on the other side of the river upstream the other direction about 250 yards so he turns and starts walking towards his friends. You even see him waved to them on the beach he signaling, hoping they’ll come help him at that point for 13 kids cut him off and start telling him that he has 10 seconds then they knock him to the ground and start punching him while he’s down in the water which is insane unless you just want to kill somebody.
And you bet he had to have been scared out of his mind. He had to assume they’re gonna kill him and drowned him when they’re punching him in he’s down in the water.
So he did me and most people would do if they had a knife on them he used used it to defend and save his life. Then he walked back over to the beach and he sat and waited for the police. Yes, he threw the knife away. and yes, he didn’t tell his friends what happened
But that’s because according to psychologist, he was in a state of shock in a situation like that he went from looking for his phone and being stressed out about losing his phone, which is stressful for all of us. It’s a huge part of our lives.
Within 60 seconds later, he’s being hit and afraid that he’s going to be killed so he has to stab people to survive and then his brain has to try and figure out what the hell just happened

Their calls for help were deeply shrouded in laughter and mockery. They lured him over by holding up a cell phone, then yanking it away when he got there. He accosted their tube train, then they slapped his snorkel and goggles into the water.
Nic Miu isn't innocent, but they were far worse and started assaulting him first. The girls were the first to push him, then the young men launched an attack from all sides.
They gave sworn affidavits, then their testimony greatly conflicted with their sworn statements. They testified they were terrified when the video was frozen, and you're seeing them dying of laughter in a state of drunken bliss, but claiming they were absolutely terrified of Nic Miu at that point.

I read the indictments, and the indictment event summary from Deputy Shaeppi. It even states they were attacking him before he stabbed the 1st assailant. It states they continued to attack him when the 2nd was stabbed, and continued to attack him even once the 3rd was stabbed. It also depicts 2 of the assailants plunging their own bodies into the knife which is how AJ was disemboweled. He raked his own body across the knife by shoving Nic Miu down as hard as possible.
Nic Miu is guilty of lesser charges like lying to police, tampering with evidence and so forth, but 1st degree murder and 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder are totally fraudulent. It was self defense at that point. They literally surrounded him from all sides, didn't care that he was looking for his property at that point, and launched an attack as a drunken mob from all sides.
I would support appropriate charges against Miu, but this was turned into a witch hunt, and now I believe he should be acquitted and sue the attackers in civil court. They no longer deserve justice because the prosecutor created fraudulent charges and they're trying to give him life in prison.

It's a river knife typically carried during tubing or rafting down rivers and used for rescue/emergencies, for example to cut a rope quickly in case of entanglements. Such as the ropes used to tie the tubes together.

He started to walk away, and the teens intensified their yelling, calling him names and cussing at him. He went back, and one of the girls was yelling in his face and may have pushed him or hit him. He may have hit her. The teens were like a rabbid pack of hyenas after their prey who was weaker than them. He was. He had had open heart surgery. They pushed him down numerous times and even pushed his head under the water. Another group joined them, men in their mid 20s. So he had about ten laughing at him, pushing him down, cussing at him, calling him pedophile and other names. At this point, I would be very scared for my life. He could not physically fight them off. So he pulled out his knife as one of them came at him again.

Perfect example of people "seeing" what they want and being sympathetic towards those they associate with. So far, all the witnesses I have seen have very "selective" memories and are horrible witnesses. The state should have just presented the video and rested.

These kids don't know what they saw, and it's obvious that they have formed a story despite video evidence. Even the previous witnesses are admitting to what she says didn't happen, and she was sober! I know they experienced a traumatic event, but their trust in memories is scary. Then the prosecutor is trying to give her an out because the police didn't get as detailed and it's been two years. Even their attitude to the defense shows their inability to question what happened. The prosecutor says she didn't know the order and she agrees. The defense follows up, and she can't even agree that the group may have blocked her view- until there's a picture. I'm not saying they are outright lying, but someone filled the gaps in their memories with a story that just didn't happen.
The wife also doesn't remember what happened either. 🤷♀
Have you ever been shot or stabbed or directly involved in something similar? Because you keep talking about the video and her testimony not matching. But you have the luxury of watching it in slow motion and picking it apart. When the actual event happened in real time, it happens super fast. You see things but your brain can't register it immediately etc. Ove been shot , and we wrestled over the gun before it went off. Till this day I can't even tell you what really happened during the actual shooting. I remember immediately before it happened. And after. But I only remember bits and pieces of the actual incident happening
because it is way way way easier to blame the old man 100% than to take responsibility that they were part of a situation - at fault - that got their friend killed. Who would want to carry that around?
And state is just making a case out of it all. because they have to because someone died. ... And I'm very bothered that he lied to the police. That bothers me the most.

He just happened to have had triple bypass heart surgery a short time before the incident, so I can understand why he feared for his safety! There is such a thing as stand your ground, & he had every right to defend himself in that situation! Those young guys damn sure weren’t scared of anything, especially that old man, no matter what lies they tell in court now! The thing that stands out most is this witness swears neither girl put their hands on the defendant and she is sure of this.. yet the video obviously contradicts that statement and also shows her view was obviously blocked. Yet she is also sure that the defendant punched the girl which took place at the almost the same instant and place from her perspective. How can you be so right about one yet so wrong on the other if you actually "seen" this interaction? Im surprised that the attorney for the defendant didnt point this out. This is just an observation of her deception and bias.. not on my view on guilt or innocence of the defendant.

As I alluded to above, the power dynamic was not in his favor. Outnumbered, with aggressive individuals coming at him from all sides with no fear of him. Mix in Hyenna boy instigating the whole time and a reasonable person could conclude that Miu believed his life was in danger.

To be honest, human memory is incredibly fallible. She stated that she had not seen any videos of the incident so she is recalling a traumatic event that happened 2 years ago. I personally put little faith in eyewitness testimony.

I've sat as a juror for 6 weeks on a federal trial. He actually sounds just like the prosecution in that case. You may think he's not good, but he is exactly what they sound like. He stops himself because he has to ask questions in such a way there can be no holes in meaning by the defense. That is why it is choppy. The minimum amount of objections by the defense show how thorough his questioning is.
