I remember me as a small kid thinking the spaceship was part of some game stored internally on the console and I was trying to find a way to play it, lol
That was the BEST music CD interface for that time. You can also mess with the vocals too! Why the f*ck did Saturn go the way it did here in North America......
It is so interesting how you can play music CDs on game consoles. I have an Xbox 360, and I've been using it to play my CDs from Van Halen, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, etc. And that's really what I've been doing on my Xbox ever since I found that out, sometimes I just like to sit back and listen to music, and I'm excited that I don't have to get a CD player for it.
More interesting than just being able to play CDs on your console, in the 6th generation, the original Xbox could save your music to the hard drive and a few games could actually use the music off of the hard drive in game in substitution of the game's original soundtrack. It was kind of mindblowing at the time.
Basically, all consoles (except some from Nintendo) have a robust media player included. That kind of feature helps to sell videogames like a complete media center, not only as a gaming device. Features like that are still sold to this day, in the form of blu-ray compatibility and streaming services.
@@Flamestar320 no CD works like that. you can always continue to listen to the CD itself after ripping the songs to the Xbox. they’re just copied, not transferred.

@@zosxavius Technically, the Sega Saturn is more powerful but due to the console being extremely difficult to develop for, that's what mostly led to the commercial failure. The second biggest reason was the surprise summer launch on May 11, 1995. If it had continue development and released by September 02 as planned, it would have been just as successful as the N64 and PS1.
@@alejandrosandoval2665 pretty debatable that it was any faster or more powerful. The PlayStation was much more optimised for 3D where the Saturn was obviously built from the ground up to be a 2d console. Everything is a sprite for instance. Yes it had two processors. Yes they were faster. But it was also almost impossible to fully utilize both. And for all the extra performance you gained you had to trade it in for primitive 3d acceleration. Notice how quads only lasted for a very brief time as a rendering technique? That's because triangles were far superior. The Saturn didn't even have real transparency. I think Sega was somewhat caught off guard by the PlayStation. The PSX really pushed the medium forward and I think that Castlevania shows that it also did 2d very well. The lack of RAM expansion was definitely short-sighted.
it is said that during the 32bit era, the Saturn had the best audio cd player interface

Skotthas Dafever If that takes the songs away from the CD, and I can't play anything from the actual CDs after, then no, I'm not doing that.

This video was uploaded in 2014, why are there comments from 11 years ago?

I own 2 Saturn consoles! A model 1 and a model 2, unfortunately the model 1 had a hard previous life and the CD motor packed up :/

I came here for @6:23
I found a glitched video
It also plays all 3 Animaniacs CD albums, including Variety Pack!
WHAT FORMAT DOES IT ACCEPT FROM AUDIO ?
On Saturn, only the CD Audio (Redbook) format can be played in audio form, so no other digital formats like MP3 are compatible.
