    A company that has made robotic animals for roles in Hollywood blockbusters including Free Willy, Deep Blue Sea and The Abyss is now hoping to apply its technology to the real-life task of transforming marine parks. In September 2020, Edge Innovations showcased a convincing robotic dolphin as a possible alternative to the use of live animals being captured or bred, then trained to spend their lives in captivity.

      Most dolphins in Western marine parks were born in captivity. In fact, capturing cetaceans has been banned for decades in most places. The wild-caught dolphins living in marine parks are usually very old and captured in the '80s. Dolphins born in human care cannot be released into the wild because they lack the survival skills and immunesystem. It has been tried, and it has failed before (sadly, the animal paying the ultimate price of death).

    I want to thank all the people who have made this happen. I am so ready to get these captive animals out into the wild and still be able to learn about them in the water. I’m so happy they made this happen.
    In captivity the animals only let them be kissed and hugged because they know that they get a treat after. They have so much stress, pain, and suffering they have to endure and this can make a change.

    I think the only thing people would be worried about is that generations would grow up not appreciating real animals. They'd be taught that it didn't matter, it's only a robot, or something far off they can't see and doesn't affect them. I met real, wild dolphins (who chose to come say hello) off the coast of Australia several years ago. They were funny, engaging and altogether as human as any person as I've met. I treasure that memory and the experience has meant that the idea of an ocean without dolphins is something I can't imagine. So much so that I try to limit my plastic use and try, wherever possible, to reduce my impact on marine wildlife. Obviously, marine parks are not the ideal environment for these animals but, I digress, surely there must be a happy medium that allows the animals to thrive whilst maintaining that essential contact with humans? Let's be honest...we're a rather selfish species and unless faced with the reality of our actions we rarely choose to change our habits.

    • @Zack-fu4lo
      @Zack-fu4lo 4 роки тому

      the coast? a happy medium that benefits both us and dolphins does not exist. keep dolphins locked up for humans entertainment or let them free in the ocean. the robots are only in ocean. if they want to see a real dolphin, go to the coast or something

    • @silversiren7046
      @silversiren7046 4 роки тому

      You're not allowed to visit wild dolphins any more except for research purposes in a lot of places. There's always a solution to every problem though. You just need to find it and stay positive!

    • @narrgamedesigner2747
      @narrgamedesigner2747 3 роки тому

      Yeah but human to animal contact usually lands them being killed and also who respects animals as attractions? Like a dolphin doing a flip isn't going to have a spiritual connection other than entertainment. Like at least the swim with robotic dolphin is more ethical and since the behaviour will be very close because Hollywood engineering it would be a similar experience. No animal has to suffer for what you'll experience an hour. Animal don't belong in cages for crimes they never committed... Like imagine having fantasy realistic animal robotics. But also to like get up close without a wild animals being in the picture. Showing wild animals being wild animals instead of unnatural wild behaviour. I don't why unnatural behaviour equals teaching people about wild animals when your not even seeing Thier true behaviour and mentally unwell due to not being stimulated in a natural way. It's more cruel to keep them in confined spaces than creating a realistic robot.

  • @sunsetkitty2932

    • @Zack-fu4lo
      @Zack-fu4lo 4 роки тому +1

      this would probably be a very slow adoption rate. some if not most dolphins are born in captivity. theyre not trained to live in the wild. also, before we let them go, we have to handle our poaching problem first. no sense in letting them go if theyll just get poached or fished
