They are literally spies. They are designed to blend in *with* the habitat in order to allow it to stay at baseline and receive data otherwise impossible to get from a third person perspective. Just because they are “bots” doesn’t mean that’s their given directive.
It ended well. This was written at the BBC-link from the description: "Our spy creatures explore the challenges ocean life must overcome to survive. Spy Whale is joined by Spy Dolphin as they encounter a humpback whale calf in danger of drowning when competing males pursue its mother. After a remarkable effort from the calf’s parent, she not only manages to protect her baby from danger, they also gain a bodyguard! "
Oh NO... Is the baby whale OK ? That was amazing and to think that humans used to kill these majestic animals by the thousands years ago, is truly heart breaking. Thank you so much. ❤🐳
Humans sadly over killed most all species :/ Whales are actually doing “too good” at their recovery at the moment, too large of numbers is forcing them up rivers for salmon they’ve never gone after before etc.

why do they keep saying in danger, but never actually say what the danger is? oh as im typing this i see the description says danger of drowning, but also says the mother protects the baby and gains a bodyguard, though it wasnt shown here so
@puppycraft1016 Because the humpback calf is much smaller than the adults and relies on it's mother to keep it safe from injury or predators. The narrator, David Tennant, gives us a clue that things don't go well. With 7 or 8 male humpbacks trying to mate with her, her calf may have been fatally injured, accidentally drowned, or lost touch with his mother completely. It's always difficult to see nature footage like this. But in another way, we are extremely privileged. By seeing this footage, we learn how precarious life can be for large marine mammals. And how we humans add to the dangers for them - with our discarded fishing nets, our underwater mining and drilling, our oil spills and our ships travelling in whale nursery waters.
yes in wild nature the main instinct is to pass on its genes and due to male biology and opposite of a female one which is to find the best possible mate to pass her genes and then risk with pregnancy and birth and then to protect the young most of the time alone. males literally get other with the whole process in minutes and its strategy is to mate with as many females so they kill other males kill others young and literally try to stop the process like different penises to stop other males seed most of the times the antlers on a deer are literally just to fight other males
Love the dedication to calling the bots "spys"

To study a whale and her calf these guys are using way more technology than the entire NASA when they sent the man to the Moon

A cliffhanger... what happens to the Mommy and her baby?
The singing sounds ghostly and lonely...the gang of males seem so threatening...
You should look at how male dolphins treat a female one
It was an ignorant calf. It's time for the mom to dispose of it and reproduce a new stealthier calf.
