Today is another very special and unique game between the StarCraft 1: Brood War Terran and the StarCraft 2 Terran! Casting this mod has been such a joy and it's truly a wild experience seeing the old getting matched against the new! Once again, it's Asur vs Barcode in a (sort of) mirror matchup! Only this time the mirror match up is between the old and new Terran!
This match is made possible by the SC: Evo Complete Crossover Edition mod which brings the StarCraft Brood War versions of Protoss, Zerg and Terran into StarCraft 2! The past and the future duke this intense back and forth game!
If you're new to this channel, I cast a wide range of StarCraft 2 content including casual games and modded games including viewer submitted content! If more casual and modded StarCraft are something you guys are interested in, please consider subscribing!
Since the majority of casts are of pro level games, I think it would be really interesting focus on StarCraft 2 ladder games from the more general population of StarCraft 2 players. Of course I will occasional host a pro-level match once in awhile, but for now I'm focused on casting StarCraft 2 from players in the community!

Hello, one of the devs here, just to comment the 'Crossover Edition' mod is not being actively worked on.
The primary mode is just 'SC: Evo Complete' that is being balanced by feedback from the korean player base, crossover is more experimental with, new abilities and unit added.
Here's the info about the different mods
SC: Evo Complete: The main Extension Mod. It allows you to play SC1 vs SC2 races. There are some balance adjustments to compensate the major differences for SC1 against SC2, but nothing that changes the tech-tree of the SC1 races. Currently actively maintained.
SC: Evo Complete Legacy: An Extension Mod purely focused on the SC1 races. Several incompatible features with SC2 have been introduced, looking to recreate them from SC1, like adjusted mining rates and miss chance mechanics. It doesn't feature SC2 races due to these reasons. Not actively maintained at this moment.
SC: Evo Complete Crossover: A more experimental Extension Mod. It introduces a few key changes with the SC1 techtree, rearranging a few upgrades, adding some new abilities and tweaks to existing ones, and even new units. Due to its experimental status, we are not currently maintaining it.

If there's an update patch of the mod, maybe return the Tankivac move for the SC1 Dropship with rapid deployment because Dropships is bigger than the Medivac (lore wise) 😁.
Any chance we could get a version of the UED faction Nekron made in his UEDAIP Brood War mod?

Also no nerfing of the BW versions, so we can see how BW vs SC2 truly matches up.
There needs to be exhibitions of this with the best BW players vs the best SC2 players.

Cutting the Goliath in SC2 multiplayer is a cardinal sin, strong anti-air is a necessary role that is too hard to ignore. Vikings? Too gimmicky. Thors? Too slow and expensive. Cyclones? Good luck micromanaging these.

This is kind of why I couldn't do SC2 outside of the campaigns. Goliaths are just such an integral part of the Terran race that removing them just seems anti-human.
The reason they removed them was BECAUSE they were integral (to a fault) Think about it--- you build Goliaths every matchup and basically always mass them. Removing them forces you to be a little more specialized and consider other units..

@@philfedorowick Speaking of integral roles, I can't believe why the Hydralisk was moved to Lair tech, they're useful to defend against air-to-ground harass and put pressure in the early game. Not to mention the presence of Roaches defeats the thematic game design of swarming your opponent with cheap, mobile but weak units.

Seems like brood war terran could win every game by just SCV rushing with there Chad 60HP SCVs against the Virgin 45HP SCVs of the SC2 terran.
In a more serious note, this is a difficult matchup for brood war terran. Liberators are just a fantastically powerful tool for pushing back seige tanks, whisly brood war terran is absolutely anchored by the seige tank, (it does a ridiculous amount of anti ground damage), and any air play would be dominated by reactored vikings.

Exactly, the reactor on the starport could help SC2 Terran react to any attempted anti air response by the brood war Terran. I’m still trying to think of an answer to the liberators. I think lockdown plus Goliath plus siege might be a good option
BW Terran needs to counter with wraiths (if no or few vikings) and ghosts imo, goliaths alone just get chewed by the libs way too quickly.
Vikings would be a problem but you'd need only a few wraiths to deal with the libs and you can lockdown the vikings too.
technically, massed Valkyries would counter Vikings.
Fighting BCs would still be a massive pain though.
@@Appletank8 i don't know the armour class of valks, but even if there light, not armoured, vikings still have a significant advantage with there long range. And liberators also have AoE on the rarely used anti air attack, so could do pretty decent versus the valks.
Still, you're right, BCs are definitely the major issue for them. Anti mutalisk units aren't built for fighting 6 armour capital ships.
@@Santisima_Trinidad Range would definitely be an issue, though I think their AoE is at least far superior than the Liberator's. Despite often seen used to fight Mutas, their attack type is technically explosive too, therefore anti-large, and fires a big volley of missiles.
Upgrading the Vikings in Co-op or Campaign for splash damage gets close to the feeling, 6 or so start really destroying any air units.

9:14 It feels like the SC1 units damage has been slightly reduced, otherwise I don't think any units would have survived this encounter, but maybe I'm wrong.
Also I think that the 3D of the engine makes the range look smaller (especially for Goliaths and siege tanks).
Anyway, it's super fun to see that, and I hope somehow SC1 can find counters to the many SC2 cheeses (maybe going cloack Wraiths to push against Banshees and Libs?)

And tanks make way less damange...
Chad Arclite cannon was too much for the mod I guess, that thing was terrifying
Also seems red player forgot Science Vessels broken defense Matrix and Bio for SCBW was great with the medics and even firebats being somewhat tanky
Honestly SC1 units feel reduced to hell, rendering them pretty much weaker versions of SC2.
Part of what made Vultures so powerful (aside from spider mines) was their ability to fire whilst moving if you micro'd it right.
Engine differences aside, the Goliath range to too low. They were mobile SAMs in Broodwar! Nerfing their range for baLAncE pretty much makes them useless.
Seige tanks are nerfed as well. They used to have so much more splash and damage compared to SC2 tanks that even getting shot once was feared!
SC2 tanks however, you'd micro your units into seige tank fire to see where it was, comfortably knowing they can take 1 hit.
In summary, all three mech units are nerfed making SC1 a weaker SC2.
This is so cool! I want to see more of this Brood war X SC2 games, I want to see Zerg, Terran Protoss Everything!

Fun fact: the Goliath is actually a rip-off. It's based on the CPLT-C1 Battlemech from the Battletech universe. It only replaced the lasers on its center torso with an underslung machine gun.
It's more of an "ED-209 from Robocop" sort of vibe IMO, but with the SC2 version especially, I can definitely see what you're talking about.
@@Suralin0 The in-game model yes, but the cutscene model is an almost 1-1 copy of the Catapult and the design is the same. That said, the in-game model is actually very similar to the CPLT-K2 version, the one with the PPCs. The cockpit/head is DEFINITELY similarly designed.

8:50 - I mean. Fully-fleshed out? For this game type maybe? Cause they've had all the old units and someone already remade all the Broodwar-etc maps/campaigns in Galaxy engine.

Anyway,
I think to make it balanced, the Brood War terran needs to get 8 minerals instead of 5 per retrieval. Essentially, the Brood War balance is completely off since they're essentially getting 40%ish less than what their balance calls for.
What kind of skill-level do you want when casting a replay? Do the players at least have to be grandmaster or something like that?

This one is the SC: Evo Conplete Crossover edition which you can access by creating a custom melee match in StarCraft 2, select “create with mod” and type “SC: Evo Complete” in the search bar
Liberator and banshee are very strong. Should SC1 Terran do a bionic?
Well the modders really should balance this, because SC1 has fewer units than SC2. Like the M.U.L.E.s can be availabe to both eras (because the timeline lore says so) ☝.

I just love seeing how SC1 SCVs with 60 hp don't give a shit about most worker-based threats there is in starcraft 2. Widow mine in the mineral? Pffft - she will kill only one of them, others will be left with enough health to drill the shit out of that mine and continue with their overtime.
Yeah I can only imagine the look on Asur's face after that mine did basically nothing.

I really need to see Bio on Bio soon, because so far we got almost identical in general sense 2 casts, which isn't that interesting. Also, I want to see other versions of this mod, the pure Brood War and "Adjustment pack" versions!
Bio vs mech would be so cool to see. I think it would be interesting to see how SC2 bio with their medivacs would handle classic SC1 bio

Also, *what tags are on the units? And what tags belong to Brood War Firebat? Is he light or armored? Are BW units copy their tags from campaign?* So many interesting questions and possibilites to solve!
Does Sc1 Terran have Hellfire Missiles upgrade for his Goliaths? Thats a huge power buff for Goliaths. Also, given how much early game Imbalance there is in favor of SC2, 8 minerals per SC1 SCV seems pretty balanced imo to the 5 of SC2
Hellfire missiles are their weapon, you probably mean Charon Boosters

It’s definitely worth a shot. Someone else mentioned SC2 Terran could respond quick with a reactor and building 2 Vikings at a time, but at the very least BW Terran could try and clean up the liberators before SC2 Terran responds
