Iain, I don’t know what to do about my white American coworker. So he was reading up the rules for joining the Little Red Book cos of the TikTok situation. He said he read this part that said if someone wants to mention about Taiwan in the App, they have to acknowledge that Taiwan is part of China. He said he can’t accept because his History taught him that after the Second World War, Taiwan declared their independence and China has always been after Taiwan. He can’t agree with this and so he said forget jojning the Red Book app. I don’t know how to educate him better on all this.
In my experience, when people are so locked in on their hatred, they will never budge with any coercion or conversation… they have to find their own way. Forcing the issue will make them stand more in their righteousness of thought. My advice would be, let it be, not everyone can be educated because their brainwashing has been so deep and it has soaked into the limbic brain and will be ever so hard to dislodge. Walk away from the discussion. ❤️
Except my 小红书 is full of people telling the Americans to go away 😅 I’ve had the app for about 5 years so all my audience and people I follow are Chinese. Two completely different sides to the app now! It’s crazy!
Yeah, I thought it would evolve quickly because of the difference in the extremes in culture around the edges - plus you always get the distributors that do things out of spite and because they have no positives in their own life so they aim to spoil! Interesting time - what do you think will happen next?
@ I think it won’t last long, I think most new users will get bored or will realise it’s very different to TikTok and in a few months it will be mostly back to normal, although if larger content creators are happy with the revenue they are making then they are more likely to stay. Comparatively the revenue for creators on 小红书 , douyin, and Bilibili are a fraction of the monetization revenues from TikTok so creators may be less motivated. I think we will see a larger increase on shorts on UA-cam, and potentially see some creators head over to douyin if they don’t mind the controls/settings all being in Chinese since that’s the most similar to American TikTok. Just a theory, but I guess we will see. Either way, I welcome anyone to all platforms ❤️❤️

Things move fast in social media and at the end of the day 7million people in America were making a living from Tik Tok and that is what will dictate them hanging around… what it might do is have a knock on affect to other social media platforms and as you say, short form on UA-cam, which is evolving quickly because they see the opportunity. The good thing is that people have had their minds open to widening their intake and learning from others - that’s a massive positive. I am sure they will be out back in a box over time. Media propaganda is potent in is ability to do that.
We live in the age of information and social media people are not stupid they can do their own research and find out for themselves the truth. The haters spreading propaganda are losing their battle.
But on the whole people do not have the time to do the research and they are often creatures of habit - the USA helped them break their habit and it backfired.
This could be a revolution! It’s awesome to see American and Chinese social media coming together.
