    Back when big games included good metal tracks.
    NFS2 is a technical milestone. Its engine served as a foundation for the legendary NFS3 and NFS4 games.

      @armorgeddon 5 років тому +1

      NFSII was ok, but far from a milestone. It's predecessor was a milestone.

    • @CYON4D
      @CYON4D 5 років тому

      @@armorgeddon I agree it wasn't a milestone on its own and the original NFS was way better in every aspect. I was talking about it being a technical milestone for the development of NFS3 and NFS4 game engines.

    The anti-aliasing was the best qualitative feature of the VSA-100 at the time. No other Grafichip got to this quality in the year 2000!

      Too late and too slow to make a difference. Super sampling was just very expensive; this is effectively rendering the image 8 times with slight sub-pixel offsets (a rotated grid), with a max of 2 offsets for each VSA-100 chip. For 8x AA you needed 4 chips. It was in direct competition with the geforce 2 GTS, a faster card. Voodoo 5 6000 with 8xSSAA got 44 FPS in quake III demo four. You were much better off just cranking up the resolution in any game that was current except for very old games like Half-life or Need for speed 2 where it delivered the best quality. MSAA replaced SSAA, not because it was better quality or looked better, it was just cheap enough to actually use in practice.
      It was the same story with AF. R300 and geforce FX actually downgraded AF quality by only using it where the card thought it was needed (depending on view angle and texture stretch). However the estimation of where it was needed was not very good and left out some off-axis geometry that should have had AF. But still, you could just set 8x or 16x AF and it would look tonnes better than the 2-4x AF you could have afforded on a radeon 8500 or geforce 4 ti.

    Back then in 2001 I knew the performance of Voodoo 5 5500 couldn't compete with Geforce 2 GTS, yet I still chose Voodoo over Geforce, because of FSAA, Geforce couldn't compete it with Voodoo 5.
    Also I'm still wondering how you guys acquired Voodoo 5 6000 back then, since it wasn't officially sold in the market.

    If only NFSII SE's Glide-mode contained the cockpit view. The lack of it made me play the game with the software renderer only.

    Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but I'm having issues with my installation. The audio isn't synced and plays 1-2 seconds later, as well as the FPS varies from 45-60 even with Vsync on. I've done all of the fixes and patches available already. Please lend me a hand if possible. Thanks in advance.

      I can only try to help, because I never used a 3dfx glide emulation, or playing this nice old classic games on a modern PC. You have tried out this fixes, also with the guide for audio problems? pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Need_for_Speed_II#Fixing_major_compatibility_issues_on_modern_systems I would also try out with a seperate graphics card from AMD or NVIDIA, if available, if nothing helps.

    That’s interesting, that without fsaa game looks too brightness, like it runs with Voodoo 1 or 2. To be honest, after Voodoo 4500, which was my original main gaming card, using Voodoo 2 in other retro PC, make me understand, that I like Nvidia rendering quality better, it’s more darker, sharper. So as I noticed watching videos, Voodoo 3,4,5 & 6 gives that kind of quality. As always like
