By the fifth time Mulaney hosts, it’s just gonna be a 1 hour long musical about the grid system in NYC
That's silly.
It's gonna be on the fourth time he hosts.
EDIT: Just found out Mulaney is going to host again. Now we have to wait to see if the rest of the prediction will come true.
EDIT AGAIN: It was fifth time they had the subway musical. Though, to be fair, a lot happened in the world...
Yea I’d watch that
You say this like it’s a bad thing
As a Southerner that's never been to the North-East states, this musical tour of NYC has me excited to one day visit this magical world-class rathole.
5 up one over YA SIMPLE BITCH
No one is more ready to star in a musical than John Mulaney.
No one is more ready to write one, honestly.
I think Cecily has shown to be more than down for it too.
@@PlzPr3sspl4y That'd the Family Guy guy.
*laughs in Neil Patrick Harris*
We just gonna avoid the fact that he did in fact Star in a broadway musical?
This is all Pete Davidson's hallucination for eating that bad sushi.
That should have been in The King of Staten Island.
Bold of you to assume Pete Davidson was only hallucinating from the sushi
RIGHTT 🤣👏
Lol... he did it in purpose. Like licking a poison frog.
I'll have what he's having.
i love that the rat is just never acknowledged he just sometimes shows up
Central part of the NYC ecosystem. Or maybe they just have the costume...
Pretty self explanatory when it's a sketch about New York lol
have you never seen a random rat in La Guardia before??? *cues music
It's implied
As expected a sight as the flight attendants.
as soon as i saw chris and pete standing at a counter i knew........we are so blessed
As soon as I saw the title I said oh no, it’s John tonight
Did you watch any further..?
As soon as I saw he was hosting I knew we were in for another one.
You're probably the same type of person who thinks that raising the minimum wage is a blessing
Boot Scoot How does that even correlate dipshit? lmao John’s an amazing host, that’s why we’re “blessed”. get the stick out of your ass.
If John Mulaney hosted SNL without a musical sketch, did he really host?

I Love both of their parts but my favorite is Jake Gyllenhaal"s song. How can someone still be so attractive in baggy pajamas, a 5 o'clock shadow and shaggy hair? I just love him.
Right? He is soooo good

Singers are a dime a dozen, especially in show biz.
Plot twist: he already ate the sushi. This is a hallucination.
Also, that's Kenan's best costume yet
Soap Suds I still say the lobster was his best. His look of kingly pride as he entered was not to be ignored.

Anyone who's been to Laguardia knows this is no hallucination 😂 🤣

Everybody’s seen a bird in a airport!
I love that Jake just screams and flies offscreen

Rest in peace Eugene Lee. Passed away last week, was set designer on SNL since day 1. He was an amazing man, genius is a good word. I had the honor of being his driver from Providence RI to SNL on Wednesday where he would work until after dress rehearsal and headback to Providence, we would get there around 230 am, in his spare time he designed the sets for plays, Wicked is a notable one. I see this and think about him. I'll never forget the time I spent with him. It was an honor.

@@brianbaez5283 true. He was a humble guy, and yet accomplished so much. We would stop for Nathan's hotdogs on the way home almost every trip. I miss him for sure. We took that trip hundreds of times over the last decade and other places too, one time we took a 6 hour trip to Princeton just for a 20 minute meeting and another 6 hours back home. Lol
This is a lovely tribute. Thanks.

You can tell Bowen Yang was a theatre kid. I mean, everyone on SNL was a theatre kid, but especially Bowen Yang
It might be my favorite part 😆
He's super talented and extremely funny. Love him
Does being a child star on Nickelodeon count as being a "theater kid" in the case of Kenan Thompson?
My EXACT thoughts when he came on.
Canais Young id say so lol
It's really lovely that you can clearly see how much the cast love the sketch.
Except Pete Davidson who you can clearly see how much he loves being high and not giving a damn.

As is that last guy: David somebody? 🙂
When I first found the video I rewatched it at least 10 times just for that part.
Total commitment. Omg. So funny.
Mulaney: takes a minor inconvenience and makes it a skit
Let's see: ordering lobster in a diner, using the bathroom in a bodega, ordering sushi at LaGuardia Airport, 1980s sitcoms with messed-up premises, dying on the toilet, people with horn body-mods, getting to know people's names, problematic age gaps on "The Sound of Music", turning relatives into Internet memes, drag brunch waitresses who go too far...yeah, those are all the things. It's just missing something about Back to the Future.
These were all the sketch premises he did from all three times he hosted.
And that why we love him also his gift of always being extra af
this will age well
The Larry David approach as I call it

The only thing missing in this is a cutaway shot to Pete Davidson hysterically laughing mid-song.
He was laughing looking up at Jake when they made the flight change announcement

@@mirainhaf Thank you so much! Bit late, but awesome!
Yessss
I was reading this comment and as soon as I read Jake's name he appeared on screen like some sort of prophecy.
As soon as they showed John as a cashier and Chris and Pete as his customers, I was like "aww shit, here we go! Musical sketch!"
ShinRyojin frrrrrrr lol
Same.
I think the lobster diner sketch is the longest and hardest I've ever laughed at an SNL skit : )
Chris and Pete are so perfect together in this and the Lobster in a Diner sketch. And it would be nothing without Keenan's fantastic Andrew Lloyd Weber sendup.
I was waiting for it!
The bit was hilarious! Bowen Yang singing "Profiled Asian" to the melody of "Suddenly Seymore" was hands-down the best part of this bit!
Thank you! I knew the song but couldn't remember the name.
And now I want a Little Shop of Horror spoof about Asian prejudice in America starring Bowen Yang. Does SNL have to do it? Not really, but it's highly recommended.

Oop
What he lacks in natural singing talent he more than makes up for with confidence and humor 😂
Best underrated joke: Cecily reprising her role as the chef from Diner Lobster
I feel that that's just a coincidence that Cecily played a food service worker in two John Mulaney musicals. The only true continuity is Pete, Chris, and Johnas the normal characters.
Why does EVERY comment thread from SNL have at least one comment that uses the word "underrated" incorrectly? Every. Single. Time!
That’s true- probably underrated because no one noticed!
@@canaisyoung3601 lol John isn’t a normal character
@@gregbuster4187 seriously!!
Why is it always Pete Davidson buying the weird things and John mulaney is at the cashier there was bother one on Halloween this year😭
Mulaney must like the way Pete plays the character, I guess? There's also the diner lobster sketch and the bodega bathroom sketch which are the same thing. I guess Mulaney decided to write a quartet of musical sketches that are basically the same sketch imagined in 4 different ways. In all of them, Pete plays the guy trying to buy or do the messed-up thing; Redd plays his friend that's with him trying to convince him not to do it; Mulaney is the guy Pete's trying to buy or acquire the thing from; and Kenan plays the central dramatic character from the setting. Kate also plays a major dramatic character in all of them. Cecily plays a cook in 2 of the 3 sketches, and in the bodega one she's not a cook, she's a sexy cockroach (LOL!) but she does offer some uncovered flan. (She hasn't been around much this season because she's working on her TV show.)
Maybe Pete's the youngest looking guy. Yes, its a stereotype but a fair percent of stupid crap is done by young men. I suppose if Chris Redd did the stupid stuff it might be considered racist (another young looking guy). Also, I have never seen Pete sing so it makes sense to have the musical parts done by other actors.
It’s always Pete buying the stupid item, and it’s always Chris Redd who’s trying to talk him out of it. Also, Kenan, Cecily, and Kate are always in them. Recurring sketches usually always have the same people in them.
It's because Mulaney is the host whenever one of these happens. This all exists because Diner Lobster (which was done by Colin Jost and John Mulaney) died in pitch while Mulaney was still at SNL, and when he came back to host Jost was head writer so they were able to try and resurrect it.
and the lobster😭
This is one of THE best SNL sketches ever, start to finish. Don’t know how many time I’ve watched. Everyone is excellent.
The one with Pete as Eminem signing about cryptocurrency and also the one with him and mgk doing that hilarious screaming rap fucxing gets me every.time. not even sure they're even that funny to anyone but myself... either way I'm going to stop wasting my time typing out my opinions on a comment thread that is irrelevant to anyone including and most importantly myself! I have wasted more time doing way more pointless shit trust me ... #soyunperdedor #getcrazywiththecheesewhiz 🤙🏻🗯🫡

“Road to Nowhere” from David Byrne’s American Utopia (originally Talking Heads)
@@patrickoshaugs8880speaking of American Utopia, does anyone know a link to when they did Once in a Lifetime on SNL?

“Profiled Asian” was spectacular.
That should be its own musical.
If I cough then its over; you'll get off the plane.
I know the virus is bad, but its coming from Italy, too.
"No, I *wasn't* in Parasite... (disgusted, withering glare)"
As an Asian, I’m honestly not sure if I should wear a mask at the airport. (No I’m not sick)
I would jump to be in that so fast
Let's talk about Pete and Chris's characters. They must be close. They've been to a diner and a bodega and now they've flown to Cleveland together. And despite the fact that Pete's character keeps buying ridiculous food in all the wrong places, Chris's character stays with him. That's real friendship. Or maybe they're a couple, who knows.
What happens to the bodega pete gets given in Bodega bathroom ?
Couple or not, they've got a great friendship going. You can marry your friend if you like. ;^)
What about all of John's jobs???

Cleveland is pretty gay
The title of this really undersells the bit. This is basically LaGuardia!: The Musical
That’s the point
This feels like something the cast genuinely enjoys doing. A lot of skits these days seem like it's just something for cast members to get through but these musical skits seem downright fun.
Hey, they all started out as high school theater kids.

It's safe to assume he is continuing to contribute to the musical sketches in subsequent hosting gigs.
@@AlexRN Mulaney used to be a writer on the show, and when he comes back he likes to do skits he helps write, and highlight skits that don't normally get picked by the host. The musical ones are an example of both. My all time favorite is "What's That Name"
can we talk about how good Cecily's singing voice is
She's got a new show on Apple TV where she parodies Broadway musicals along with Keegan-Michael Key and various guests and I can't watch it because I don't have Apple TV 😭😭😭
This skit alone should have won an Emmy. One of SNLs best ever.
“This airport is its own world!” “Yes, a third world.” That line didn’t get enough love 😂😂
Ikr!🤷 😆😆
I guess I better fly out of JFK, lol
He makes every sketch 10x funnier
Aron James second world refers to communist/socialist countries during the Cold War. Third world has come to mean undeveloped when it originally meant not aligned with the US or USSR during the Cold War.
Aron James first world
Kenan actually has a good singing voice. So does Cecily. The tall child with the feminine hips can dance well. The whole thing is just so good.
That’s Kate McKinnon
The tall child 🤣🤣🤣🤣 great callback. You're a true fan.
@@andrewmpachetti lol no the tall child is John Mulaney
ooooh wee
Nooo! That's the one thing he's sensitive about!!!!
This skit made me realize how tall Pete actually Is, he’s literally taller than everyone at the end 😂
I’m not really quite sure why, but these typically put tears in my eyes. I just can’t imagine how talented you have to be to propose something this nutty to a bunch of successful professionals at the height of their careers (or still ascending) and pull it off 1,860,000%. To have it be absolutely so epic like this, right up to the very end must be such a joy.
Mulaney wrote the sketch, i think
