I thought for sure when he said at 8:46 “Guys, I’ve got a problem.” it was going to be that he broke his phone, not that his Big Gulp was gone.

It has been a while since we have gotten multiple caches in a day. Been saving many in the area to keep streaks going and calendar days. But that is all about done.

Thank you for sharing this video. Hopefully it will re-spark my love of Geocaching which I lost a few years ago. I live in a small town in the Mojave Desert. For those unfamiliar with the Mojave Desert, it is 31,000 square miles of desert in Southern California and parts of Nevada. A lot of places to hide and find Geocaches.
When I got my account in 2011, there was nothing more exciting than hiking through the desert to find a container with a lot of cool swag to trade before signing the log book. On some occasions, I tool my grandson so he could enjoy finding some of the containers to see what was inside. Eventually, I joined a group of other Geocachers and we dubbed ourselves the DV5 (Death Valley Five) because the five of us spent a lot of time in the Death Valley part of the desert finding some older geocaches that hadn't been found in years. These were very difficult caches that took a lot of hiking through some of the most rugged parts of the desert where very few people dare to go. Day time temperatures can easily reach 120° in the summer. There were times when we would spend an entire day just finding some caches. One of our most memorable was a multi-stage cache that took us nearly 80 miles to three locations where planes from the nearby Naval Weapons Center had crashed in the 1940s and 1950s. The wreckage of one of the planes still sits on top of a hill some 80 years later. (The pilot ejected and survived the crash.)
Eventually, one of our group moved away leaving us as the DV4. Of the remaining four, two of the members started ditching us and no longer wanted to find some of these difficult hides, they wanted to do series hides where geocachers hide a series of geocaches every one tenth of a mile apart along side some of the remote roads in the desert. These are nothing more than pill bottles with a log sheet inside. These types of geocaches are nothing more than a way for geocachers to build their numbers. One of the series is nearly 300 geocaches along Route 66 between Ludlow California and the Arizona border. To make matters worse, the cache owner doesn't maintain the caches, he or she expects people to bring extra pill bottles to maintain his hides since plastic pill bottles do not hold up well in the desert sun. I went along with the group on one of the smaller series of 100 caches and was absolutely bored the entire time. This isn't geocaching! There is no fun in this. But as it turned out, the desert became the place for several people to place series caches. If you get a chance, look up a geocaching map of the Mojave Desert and see how many different series caches are within the desert.
Within a few months, those two Geocachers from our group had over 10,000 finds and were going to other places in the country to continue their quest of finding series caches. These series caches are highly irresponsible as the rules make it clear that the owners is responsible for maintaining their hides. It is well known that none of them do, they leave it up to those who find them. To me, series finds are nothing short of "Geocaching for the lazy." I got so frustrated with it and continued finding the difficult hides on my own. The other member of our group who didn't participate in the series finds ended up quitting the game altogether. I spent another year or so finding difficult geocaches until I broke both of my legs in a bad car accident. After several surgeries and a year of recovery I was still unable to go out in the desert like I used to.
Over the last couple of years, I have gone Geocaching when my wife and I go on vacation to different places. We spent a week in Honolulu where I was able to go out and find some geocaches along the coast. I would like to find another group and spend some time in the desert again, but it seems that series hides are what some of the newer Geocachers are looking for. I hope the game doesn't end up becoming all about the numbers. If it does, then people will never understand where the game started.

Man, this video encompassed so many of my geocaching adventures, old and new. Usually fueled by snacks and soda pop and then fast food for lunch, random caches both in lamp posts, and also in pocket wooded areas scattered throughout, as well as occasional guardrail hides next to busy highways. Though, I've never found a piece of bark geocache like the one you show here. I can't tell if it's because there aren't any of those around me, or if those DNF's on my map are the tree bark caches that were way too tricky for me to find! 🤔 The big parking lots near your house look just like the big parking lots near mine... empty! It really makes quick LPC finds even quicker!

Just think of how fast you could've found these caches if you didn't stop to film the silliness. :P I think stopping to film the caches that I did when I was attempting my 200 star challenge really hindered me in finishing that.

So funny with the big gulp, etc. When I did "World Turtle" I think I stopped for breakfast, lunch and dinner while getting caches that day.
    Thanks Josh! :)

heh, I did a 10-10-10 video back in 2010 for Oct 10th; I like to think it was celebrating 10 years of geocaching :)
Parking lot LPCs are perfect in this crisis!
Don't use the bench, you might get fined. (well, maybe not in your area; but I've seen that on the news somewhere! o_O)
The bark one -- interesting... haven't seen duct tape on the back of a bark strip before, lol
Great direction giving at the interstate. Will have to make note!
20, and no DNFs! Nice day :)
