The final season of "Game of Thrones" had a promising enough start, but the most recent two episodes were filled with inconsistencies, errors, and terrible writing decisions that has derailed the show. This video digs into "The Long Night" as well as "The Last of the Starks" to see why fans are feeling so let down.

Season 8 is the equivalent of writing a thesis the night before it’s due.
Lol
Yep...excellent summation.
💯
Oh, the days.....😌
A....long night?
The show went from me being angry at the characters for their decisions to me being angry at the writers at their decisions. Best character arc of all time.
Plot twist! The writers were the villains all along!
Good writing should make you forget there ever was a writer.
@@albatroce2324 Exactly. The characters should move the plot, not otherwise.
Omg so true. It started with escalating fandom wars over the dumb and irrational decisions of the characters and then it hit me - the writing was far more stupid than even the previous seasons lol.
@@sebee555 I think good writing, or just good art, is exactly when that happens, when it splits crowds and opinions and people lose their minds trying to argue if it's great or nonsense. More than half of viewers still like S8, the writing isn't bad, you just don't like it.
its so cute and innocent how he is disappointed at episode 3, not having seen the true horrors that follow.
Maxmilian Schönbäck seriously!!
Lol not cute, it's sad. Hope he hasn't hanged himself by now!

Dmitry Maximov I had it spoiled, I’m warning you to stay away from these videos
@@aarongutierrez7705 It's a good thing I've already read the spoilers, otherwise I'd go mad myself
You’re a fool
Exactly, you haven't been paying attention since the start of season 6. The writing has been circling the toilet bowl since then, there was always so many more episodes to go that people ignored it. Now its finally going down the drain and people are acknowledging it. I think the hate is coming on so strong because people have let so much slide over the past few seasons and were willing to forgive bad writing in the past as long as they could make an ending work. This is what happens when people suffer bad writing for 2 seasons, the show runners think its great because people want to like it and will turn their brains off to praise when they should be critical.
The characters knew exactly what they were doing. They sacrificed the Unsullied and Dothraki because they knew they would respawn (in even greater numbers) for the battle at kings landing in episode 6.
I swear to god I had thought that the dothraki and unsullied were mostly wiped out at the battle with the night king, but I guess not
And then Jon cleverly made his move, knowing that the Unsullied are the most merciful guys out there and would spare him and go home.
Oh my god. Unsullied and Dothraki....they're Sand People.
@@michaelxz1305 during the aftermath in the war room.
Greyworm: half are gone.
Jon: "the northmen aswell"
Royce: *takes half of the vale forces off the map*
Dothraki guy *also done the same*
Which means they are less than before.
Each of their forces are heavily injured and what not
Sam would have never survived that battle.
It was ridiculous. There were a couple times where he was overwhelmed/covered by the dead and he miraculously didn't die. The entire battle with the Knight King was a complete joke.
D&D kind of forgot that Sam overcame his fear and killed a White Walker back in season 3.
Omg seriously!! If they wanted to keep him alive, putting him in the crypts to end up saving his family and killing a few wights would have been the much better route.
@@mikesinyaboot5992The dead generals were a complete waste of space. I could of done without all the useless fighting just to see them battle it out with some of the main characters. They didn't do anything but watch the action
@@diamondblack19 Don't forget, walking menacingly into winterfell. That was all they did, watched, and then walked around menacingly. What a dumpster fire of a season
The worst part is that they weren't even running out of time. HBO wanted to give them more seasons, more episodes, more everything. The producers just wanted out so that they could get their Star Wars deal. And they messed everything up in order to go get that sweet Disney money.
scarmander this season should’ve been stretched out over at least 1 or 2 more seasons.
I haven't heard about the Star Wars deal, but I definitely know that HBO would have happily continued the show. It's garnered more viewers with each season, making them more and more money, and with them starting a handful of spin-off series, you know HBO would have gone to season 20 if they could have.
@@daniel_netzel it's apparently going to be a trilogy. I'm sort of hoping they get fired after Kathleen Kennedy hears about the backlash from the fans about this season.
So dumb. It's like the guy who played Daario Naharis walking away to play an insignificant role in some lousy tv series I don't even know the name of.
Why would you leave GoT for something else?
@Spanish Moustache the MCU is probably the only other series, TV or film, on par with GOT. So yeah that would make sense, otherwise it was just foolish on the part of that actor. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say..
What makes Theon’s death poignant is he was the only character in the entire episode there for any reason besides survival. He wanted redemption.
so did jaime. he left kings landing and went north to fight

Jack_The_Masochist_Kelly MMA Then went back
@@nykerianash1590 when i wrote that comment i hadnt seen ep 5 and thought he was going back to kill cersei
Disappointed, disgusted they could have done better than this. Looks like not only writers but the actors also wanted it to end it in a hurry. They all gave up on the show.
interviw with dumb and dumber after ep 3: it was the end of the dothraki
ep6 promo: nearly 1k dothrakis.
perfect example for this season
I really loved the master strategy they put forth of the Dothraki YOLO charge. Who would have though that the Dothraki couldn't defeat the greatest threat Westeros had ever seen on their own? Makes you wonder why they even bothered banding everyone together if they thought the Dothraki could handle it on their own
@@patm3802 and keep in mind the dothraki live for fighting in pitch black against basically unknown opponents. Man, that scene by itself killed me right at the start.
They kind of forgot they only killed half of the dothraki.
nah man didnt you hear? they ordered them on ebay..... thats why theres 1k dothraki in ep 5
the night king resurructed the dead dothraki. they are actually whytes.
Daenerys: We must attack King's Landing now!
Everyone else: Why?
Daenerys: Because we only have two episodes left!
Her motive was clear, she saw the support for Jon Snow growing and wanted to take over before people begun to question her right to rule. Why the fight against the dead wasn't a fighting retreat across Westeros where a defiant Cercei refused them at the gates of Kings Landing still and were swarmed as the main army continued to fight and withdraw all the way down to Old Town or Dorne where they finally got their shot at the Night King after several near misses is beyond me, however predictable that would've been it still would be better than what was.
D And D wasted episode 1 and 2, could have built Dany up to go mad, stupid fucking d and dickheads. i loved episode 5...in till the bell rang, then i was sad :( they should have made 2 alternative endings to game of thrones, one happy ending and one, hitler,Dick Chaney, George Bush, Dany genocide hungry bitch, which were getting now
She did have reasons that were evident out, but I do see the point you are trying to make. This season has seemed very rushed.

Dragonfire can devastate a city block and crumble 700 ft walls but John can hide behind some rubble and be ok . Consistency, is that too much to ask?
but it happens in all the movies tbf. towards the end in the face of battle: remember starship troopers: at the start of the film it took like 5 marines to fight off one bug at the end of the film one marine fought off like dozens of bugs
as far as logic goes im not too concerned i mean: just for starters: who in their right mind would tirion as their advisor in a battle against his own sister? It doesnt really make sense but the show created some stars who carried the remainig storylines and needed to keep them in it...
@@antonquirgst2812 Because old Tyrion knew how Cercei's mind works. And he hated her, there's no love lost between them. If old Tyrion could kill his father, he could kill his equally tyrannical sister.
But if course, the last few season Tyrion was completely different from the old Tyrion.
@@marcelinauy9037 tyrion just blew it all the way - he annihilated his family then made snow kill his love just to become the right hand of the kig again... and before that all his predictions and all his assumptions just went to fail. not to ention that he more or less killed tzhe guy who saved his life (varys)... tyrion just a bitch...
Apparently Winterfell's broken wall is stronger then the magical wall who stood for thousands of years... RIP reason...
Well Grand Daddy Ice is dead. The big bad main villain Cersei just stared off her balcony and died by rubble. And Jon Snow is the highest paid extra in history of a television series. Fml
so... the show was built up to make Dany seem like the actual dangerous and radical villain lol but they probably regretted about that idea 2 hours after writing it so they'll kill her off with ease (like the other two) to prove how much of a huge threat she is :^)
Victoria Clerici how exactly has the show built that up? I’m sure GRRM wanted it to end like this but I know he’ll do a hell of a lot better job of showing exactly how she got to where she burns thousands of innocents. The majority of fans aren’t upset about her being a mad queen, just how she got there was rushed.
@@xcrunner811 they killed the NK with ease, Cersei lost the city within the first 3 minutes of Dany riding Drogon, and the final episode was all about destroying the actual threat, the actual tyrant... but, like the other two "villains", she was easily killed with little to no consequences or traumas lol and I'm aware of the fact that King's Landing had to be burnt before that happened, but look at last night's episodes: the Lords were LAUGHING AND JOKING after a goddamn GENOCIDE. Nobody fucking cared.
@@xcrunner811 I'm not upset about the fact that she was supposed to be the mad queen either, but there was an attept to make Dany seem villainesque at the last minute. Didn't work for me, at least the way it was executed. Seeing her die last night made me feel nothing, and every prior death in GoT felt compelling or pleasing (even Ramsay, he died BEING EATEN BY DOGS and everyone wanted to see him dead). After all those plot holes/developement holes, there was nothing else for the end of the series but to be empty.
@@VictoriaClerici burning a city is not genocide! I think thats on of the mature holes in this- even though danny did that for no good reason it didnt seem so traumatic, probably as viewers we got a litlle indifferent due to all of thos dramatic scenes and cuts throughough season 8 with all of its battles!
Well I'm here after episode 5...sad to say there is little to no hope they can bring this back
No kidding, hate to say it but I don't know if I'll even bother watching the final episode. Here's hoping GRRM finally finishes his last few books and shows these scrubs how to properly tell a story

exactly!
This is heartbreaking. The potential, flushed down the drain of soulless fools
Its annoying that HBO offered them more seasons and more episodes, but D&D said no . . . Probably because they wanted Star Wars.
Wouldn't it be the best shock value if Disney pulled the rug out from under them, because of how badly they've handled this season of GoT? That's a huge way for Disney to regain a LOT of respect from fans, but I seriously doubt they'll take advantage of the opportunity...
That's exactly why they did GOT so dirty. They wanted to get it over with so they could drop it on its head and kill it already, and they did exactly that with episode 5
Also there’s the possibility some of these actors just want to move on. That has to be factored in
@@ZR38315 the actors were never the problem at all
Sam Loomis how do you know the actors didn’t wanna move on to other projects. Emilia Clarke and Sophie turner are becoming much bigger stars. Can you blame them if they want to expand their horizons
Everything about the writing of season 8 was sub par. Character development, plot points, foreshadowing, prophecy, common sense. It was incomprehensible how they ruined it so completely. They couldn't have done a more thorough job if they tried. I have never witnessed such a complete and utter failure.
Hilarious and well said.
I thought season 7 was really bad. But fuck me season 8 was just absolutely terrible, like I couldn’t believe what I was actually watching

apollion888 100% agree! This review was very fair, honest, and still optimistic that the last two episodes might pleasantly surprise us.
Unfortunately, only 1 eps left to save the ending, and seeing how the 5th first eps were....i have a strong feeling the last won t be any better, if not worst.

Not gonna lie, I had zero interest in the books and the show, but now I wanna go read the book.
@@obblivionkr The books are so much better! But at least the first 4 seasons of the show were good because they did a decent job of adapting the books to film. Euron Greyjoy is such a badass in the books and is just a joke in the show.

"It feels like we're watching the cliffnotes of how the season should end". Couldn't have said it better myself, it's almost as if George gave them some broad notes on how the main story beats should conclude and they just never really bothered expanding on it all that much...
Yeah... that's EXACTLY what happened... you can't be that dumb not to realize it. Fucking lower your expectations people and appreciate you're getting anything at all. There is no source material for them to work off of now so they are essentially wing'in it. This was the best you were ever going to get and although it's highly flawed, it's still quality entertainment. It's like you got a date with a supermodel but are disappointed to find out she's a moron
@@brianfewer919 Nah man, I'd already lowered my expectations substantially but now I get the feeling that D&D are just done with the show and really couldn't care less themselves. David Benioff on EP4: "She just forgot about Euron", that's just the laziest excuse I've ever heard for saying that you didn't care to properly set-up all these surprise shock moments. I understand it's insanely difficult, and I really didn't expect something that would blow me away entirely, but they're hardly disguising there apathy towards the show anymore at this point (the writers that is, everyone else involved are still killing it). Also don't understand this trend where people who criticize things that they obviously care a lot about are shunned for being 'toxic fans', as if you should just gobble up whatever you, as the viewer, is handed to you, no questions asked.
Personally, I feel like “Cliff’s Notes” gives the show WAY too much credit. That implies an abridged storytelling schedule where the intended story is still more or less told. This has become more like poorly written fan fiction.
@@brianfewer919 Your analogy is flawed. It should be: It's like you got a date with a supermodel and she is perfect, she is smart and funny, only to find out later she turned into a moron.
honestly, if they did have a small amount of direction but knew they did not have the brains to expand on it enough to produce something GRRM actually deserves i would rather have waited 3-4 years for the last season. a 10++ episode season based off of the last book. but instead we get a half assed rushed season based off of notes....
This summarizes my thoughts on the last two episodes. I kept hearing how massive the battle was going to be, then I watched it and felt let down.
And to be fair, it was massive. But without any real danger, and that's never been what the show was about. I was forgiving when it was The Battle of the Bastards, because it felt right that the characters with much more to lose would fight much harder, and everyone underestimated Sansa calling in Littlefinger(which they hinted at episodes prior) but against the Army of the Dead it just felt so ridiculous that so few of the major characters died or even got seriously injured, that I couldn't even be emotionally invested in what was happening.
@@daniel_netzelAgreed. I usually turn off my brain and just enjoy the spectacle. I get why the battle of Winterfell had to look dark, but it was too dark to see the action. The fact that many people complained about that part shows that it is a problem. I rewatched Battle of Helm's Deep from LOTR just to compare how a night battle can convey darkness while allowing the viewer to see the action. I don't mind plot armor to much if the story justifies it, but the battle of Winterfell had too many scenes where hordes of mindeless undead flat out ignore our heros. I didn't like the library scene where Arya takes a break from the battle to do hide and seek. It felt odd and out of place when there is a battle brewing outside. The crypt was another part that should've played differently. We see the undead rising in the crypt and start attacking everyone except two main characters who just happen to find a hiding spot behind a tomb that probably has a very sleepy undead inside. I would rather they kept the newly awaken undead inside the tombs and just groan and make noises turning them into a timed bomb.
I'll still hold final judgment until I see how the story wraps up. Episode 2 had some great moments, but the last two episodes were very disappointing.
I honestly think HBO is more to blame for the lack of visual clarity. The bitrate they stream the show at is just way too low for its own good when the scenes get dark, but if you watch some of the other dark episodes in Blu-ray quality, they look amazing. Oh same, I mean, these are the toughest characters left so I can believe they can survive some pretty intense odds, but the way they showed it was just too unbelievable to me.
Agreed I thought perhaps it was going to go over a few episodes perhaps lose winterfell and flee south to Cersei for help and have a big battle at kings landing with the night king while dealing with the whole Cersei Dany iron throne thing. It would have been incredibly interesting but no. We got this.
Expectations breed disappointments.
I just feel like ever since I started watching Game of Thrones I must have made the wrong choices which got me the bad ending. Would love it if I could retry and get the proper one next time.
If only that were true 😭

The Stark house words sound really stupid now. They would have been better off with the Tyrells lame "growing strong".
I re-watched the whole show starting from the beginning just to stay in the flow while getting to the finals , It was like watching a 5 stars show crashing down hill to a BIG 0. It was so disappointing I can cry
I could compare Game of Thrones with Dexter using your brilliant comment, but Dexter is getting another season to redeem itself, so I can only use your comment to feel more disappointment for the finale of Game of Thrones.
Special effects don’t make a show, a good story and character development does.
I'm not sure how killing people isnt development. Even if it's not the progression you wanted it's still development.
Babylauncher3000 where did he even say killing people? He said special effects.

Better late than never. I decided to read them after watching the capture of Theon four times without being able to understand the logic of what was happening. And predictably this wasn't even in the books. Something so confusing obviously had to be written by the TV writers.
The books are excellent - if at times overwhelming due to an even larger number of characters and sub-plots; but so good and things make sense and everything is well thought through!
Booper Dooper that‘s the question: will GRR Martin live to finish the last books of the series? Apparently the second to last will be done sometime next year, but he generally delays interminably!

It was pretty dreadful. Worst writing the show has ever had, for so many reasons.
I had the same issues and felt the same disappointment. I've watched over the past 10 years. It was the best show I've watched in 60 years, until this season. Poorly written, and rushed.
Season 7 was horrible as well. 5-6 although still good were the first signs of decline. The strong got is, sadly, the first half of the series 1-4
I was hoping that the Night Kings army would have made it up to Kings Landing where everybody, including places like Dawn, Bravos, and the Iron Bank etc. would have sent their armies over to help with the final fight. Would have been so EPIC!

they are rushing this so called mad queen arc. since dany got there she only did one bad thing killing sams family however even that is debatable its war after all in season 7. yet she goes from being a hero to everyone turning on her in the span of two episodes this season. if they truly wanted to turn her into the mad queen then they should have made season 8 about her going to the dark side. then in a 9th season call her the mad queen. she has lost everything in the span of two episodes she is justified in being super pissed and end up doing something she might regret later
Honestly, she's not even mad, she's just angry and depressed.
I honestly supported her decision in the moment. She's been used to regretting second chances save for Jorah. She's used to the cruelty of the world, and has no issue with taking out people who will only cause more harm if given the chance, like the Harpies or the slavers. But now she's just becoming hateful and it feels so out of place, and the fact that Jon and Tyrion still stand beside her feels off to me as a result too.

Who is he? The Night King. What does he want? To erase all life on Earth. Why? Because he is death itself (an also, because he was created as some sort of Children of the Forest doomsday device). If you ask for more details, you just kill the mystery. The lack of a backstory was not how D&D ruined the White Walkers. It was the lack of a decent resolution.
paula r the first season was definitely not about the white walkers
@@ZR38315 the very first episode started with the White Walkers...
Should’ve been 9 or 10 seasons long. Smh 🤦🏻♂️ don’t get me wrong I enjoy it for what it is but bad story telling is all over. Dany’s 180 in last Sunday’s episode was terrible
if Dumb and Dumber can not handle just one season of their own, having two more would be the ultimate joke
Dany's character is the only character that has stayed consistent, if you think she did a 180 you havent been paying attention at all.
@@Rundra Look I will explain to you very simple. Being mad and ruthless isn't the same thing. She was ruthless but Arya is ruthless too or Sansa or even hell Jon is ruthless but they are not mad. To be mad first you need a breaking point then you need some symptoms. It can be episodic anger attacks, detached thoughts from reality, paranoia, inability to control actions or emotions, illogical decisions , at the very least she should have woke in the middle of the night because of some reasons. But she didn't show none of them so even she became a mad queen ,she isn't mad at all just killed everyone because she was angry which is stupidly illogical.
Again foreshadowing isn't character development
KoToCoNDoR I see your point but rushing everything in 6 episodes doesn’t help either. Idk I’m just a bit hurt
Which 180 are you talking about? Go think about how much she has lost. Think of who is there now to keep her BALANCED. You must be new to the show
"Massive disappointment" is a massive understatement. 2 years to produce the laziest scripts for the fewest episodes.
Excellent analysis. If it were me, I'd have had Dany storm King's Landing, take the city with great losses and then have to defend against the Night King with whoever she had left, with some main characters from both sides joining together in one final battle for mankind. Either that or have her do the siege tactic to try to coax Cersei out, only to have the Night King come down and pin her between his army and King's Landing, forcing a compromise between the two sides to take on the larger threat. Now that the Night King is dealt with, I really don't care how the show ends. I'm gonna watch it out of curiosity, but the real threat has been dealt with, humanity has been saved without learning anything, and whoever's ass warms the iron throne is basically a footnote.
I’d probably have it so that Arya deals the finishing blow to the Night King (after Jon Snow at least has some confrontation with him and maybe removes a piece of armor to leave the Night King’s chest exposed). But to her horror, the other White Walkers are still standing and immediately kill her (Jon’s hunch turns out to be wrong and only the Night King’s wights including Viserion collapse back into lifeless corpses). However, Arya’s sacrifice would save a lot of people from being overwhelmed by the Wights and Jon, Jaime, Brienne, Sandor, etc. are now able to rush into the garden and kill the other White Walkers there.
However, it turns out the Night King had an ace in hole, for one last regiment of White Walkers remains, and they rode around Winterfell during the battle, to travel south en route to King’s Landing.
Episode 5 involves Daenerys and company trying to warn Cersei, but losing Rhaegal and a few more characters when Cersei and Euron and still obsessed with playing the Game of Thrones. Finally, Episode 6 plays out more like a three-way battle at King’s Landing between Cersei, Daenerys/Jon, and what’s left of the White Walker invasion force.
Night King seemed like the pre-boss battle, but I feel like the fight against Euron and Cersei will be just as, if not more, underwhelming. The cinematics are gorgeous but the writing is egregious
22:55 - Of course it feels like we're watching the Cliffsnotes of what should happen. It's because we ARE. I would argue that George gave them some bullet points about what would happen but not how, when, etc. and then they just wrote towards that. That's why plot seems to have taken over character, because they're writing things towards certain plot goals. And that's why it feels truncated, because they're just finding the shortest possible way between one plot point and another with the characters they have.
OneOnOne1162 Honestly I think they were trying to create their own story with his masterpiece and because of it they fucked up. I think him gave them enough to where they could fill in the holes yet they were like “maybe we should get this character to do it instead.” I mean think back to their behind the scenes interview in the battle against the NK, they legit said they chose Araya for shock factor (I’m paraphrasing of course)
More emotion was stirred in me from you playing Old Nan's story over the recent clips of the Night King and his army than the entirety of the actual episode of The Long Night.
*It's like gold corrupts men in GoT, it also corrupted the show itself proving that no one is safe from the gold's corruption... Not even the writer!*

I highly doubt this will happen anytime within the next 10 years (probably longer) if it ever happens at all. But I really hope at some point in the future someone gives another shot at a song of ice and fire adaptation.
Just really sucks that game of thrones had to fall apart though, it got everything so right for the first few seasons.
They should make an animated series that's completely faithful to the book canon.
Game of Thrones: BROTHERHOOD
I feel sick about the way Daenerys and her forces were misused and abused this season. In episode 4, during the celebratory feast, I could not stop asking, out loud: "why are there no Unsullied or Dothraki at the feast aside from Greyworm?" Even when Gendry went outside to find Arya, he passed by Northern soldiers having an outdoor celebration. None of Dany's people were there. They were treated like animals.
I've watched all those "got 803 is shit" videos but this one is the best. Well-spoken, articulated and detailed.

Well, atleast disney kicked them out again lol.. rushed got to get to star wars, ruined their own reputation while doing this because of star wars and then: get kicked out of star wars with a ruined reputation and now playing around at netflix.
I hope the industry remember this crap when Dumb and Dumber are looking for a new job
They've already got a new job writing a Star Wars trilogy for Disney. They got it around season 6 and since then they have been rushing to get GoT finished so they can go do that. They were offered 10 episodes by HBO. They turned it down. They were offered more seasons by HBO. They turned it down. They rushed the last two seasons, especially this one, in order to run get that Disney money. They didn't give a fuck about this season, D&D just wanted it done

You're so right... This season is such a let down which is such a shame, it's my favourite TV series ever, I can accept alot of book changes, but episode 3 and 4 are gamebreakers to me, it's insulting the audience intelligence
What if "they" internationally sabotaged the show in order to sell more books once the "true" ending comes out.
...and now almost anything the author will write will seem genius compared to the train wreck of the show's plot.
Nope....I think they were just ... excessively bad!
Spoiler: Because it' so bad that it will destroy the legacy the show was on track for.
That was so dumb that we didn’t even see the darthraki fight. They were just cgi lights going out
the episode, "The Bells", kill the fanbase. Bomber Dany napalming is symbolic to what D&D did to GOT fans around the world.
If what the leaks say are true, GOT, will be the shittiest epic fail of all time in the history of television.
The biggest disappointment in GOT final season was Bran Stark proclaimed as a king and Jon Snow / Aegon Targaryen killing Daenary. It ruined everything.
I like how Lena admited recently that Cersei was supposed to have a miscarriage at the end of season 7 and that means the whole plot twist with Dany going MaD KweEn was pulled out of their asses at the last moment and Cersei was supposed to be the mad Queen, not Dany. Even the conversation Jon and Dany had in the throne room felt like it was written for Jaime and Cersei and he was indeed supposed to kill her.
I disappoint in the killing of Daenarys why Nissa Nissa was done again? it all done with Ygritte already.
@@TheAkwarium maybe! Good point
they needed a historical military advisor. All of the tactics in season 8 were utter garbage and foolish.
They dont need that, anyone could have done a better job tbh
Not even, just anyone with any Total War experience or better yet, with just a shred of common sense
I don't think they ever aimed for making those battles realist. They proved several times before that they know how to do it. As Film Radar said, they sacrificed logic over spectacle.
Jon: We can't beat them in a straght fight.
Same Jon: Send the Dothraki to s straight fight
Season 8 could not get any worse..It's a gigantic insult to GRRM and the fans who've invested so many years into a great series. Shame on the writers, shame on HBO, and shame on whoever was responsible for deciding that season 8 would be the last..It needed at least one or two more seasons at least to wrap things up..
Alternatively it should have not been wrapped up just because the show ended. They should have just build up to the NK fight and left it at that
One of the most poignant things...it didn’t have to be wrapped up so quick. HBO offered more. But apparently nope, can be done in 6 episodes. Well, that’s working out well.
You’re right, the visuals, the music are all excellent. But the inconsistencies and the logic is gone. And I’m afraid I’m “gone” too. The story telling is one dimensional and rushed. So many missed opportunities. This was always a story about the characters overlayed with a mythology that is as believable as our reality but now that’s all been flushed for the sake of expedience.
Completely agree!
I so hope S8 is scrapped and HBO decides to remake it entirely.
yea but good luck getting the actors back though HBO will take their earnings and give fans the middle finger sadly!

11:05 You mentioned that you can believe the skilled fighter surviving, agreed, but not when all or at least most were on the front row when the dead hit them like a tsunami. You see it when Tormund looks on just before his position is overwhelmed, Brienne and Jaimie too, but plot armour to the rescue.

If d&d wanted to move one why not just hire other show runners and bring back grrm in a bigger role to expand the seasons? Other shows have done it and they’ve been fine. I don’t get it. I really don’t. I feel like d&d have failed at everything but this and they wanted the sole credit which is why they wouldn’t just hand it off so they could do other things while the show continued on properly.
Honestly it feels like they just resent the show and the fans now
Well, GRRM is probably busy with the books, but I would really like to know why they didn't hand the reins to someone else who would adapt the parts of the books they didn't want to instead of rushing things and making up some D Tier fan fiction.
I honestly can't believe D&D are ignorant enough to think this last season would turn out any other way than dissapointing, at best. I hate to say it, but it seems their greed got the best of them. Im sure the Disney/Star Wars money is what made the rush the ending, but sheer pride in what GOT used to be is what kept them working on it. After being a part of something so well loved, they porbably didnt want to hand it over to someone else. Even if it could have ( and most likely WOULD HAVE) been the best thing for it.
dlm9293 I hope they’ll lose the SW deal after this fuck up just like Rian Johnson did.
DO NOT BRING BACK GRRM. I REPEAT, DO NOT BRING BACK GRRM. He's grounded until he finishes Winds of Winter.
Worst of all seasons. Downfall began from past 2 seasons but season 8 is like free fall.
season 6 ws good it was a transition ,,from westeros politics to war with dead ,,but season 7 was bad and 8 was ........i dont want to talk
It all boils down to the Night King’s end, Dany and everything else aside the second the NK died in the most pathetic, unearned way possible the shows hype and years of build up died along with him.
Great video, you covered a lot of great points and i couldn't agree more. I am hugely disappointed with GOT season 8
Not just a massive disappointment, an epic failure. 💩
They weren’t pressed for time and they didn’t have to end on this season, d&d wanted to b done with it so they could do Star Wars. They’re egos got in the way of handing the show over to someone that actually cares about quality writing...
My main issue with this season is the whole Danaerys is the "Mad Queen" crap. People are saying that it's been evident since season one and two that Dany was going to go this way. Nonsense. Tywin and Roose all killed decidedly more than Dany and yet with their amount of bloodlust, they're somehow "better" than Dany???????
I agree. I have never even liked show Daenerys, but this plot point is so forced. They act like because she has a natural human inclination toward revenge that she is insane
pressed for time? hbo is and was literally throwing money at them!
While true, I think HBO may have got a little in over their heads. The executives at HBO should have realized the season 8 script was a joke. They should have made the decision to continue the show for at least 2 more seasons and hired new showrunners.
I think HBO got a in a little over their heads. They have never produced such a large spectacle of a show. The battle with the dead should have basically been the entire season 8. Instead, they rushed every storyline and destroyed most characters arcs. Jamie, the Hound, Jon Snow, and Tyrion all regressed as characters.
This disaster of a season is going to hurt HBO and most likely Star Wars as well. I was excited for the prequel series of Game of Thrones but now I simply don't care about it. Star Wars was already struggling enough. The fact that these 2 idiots have their own trilogy is just laughable. I wonder how long they will stay off social media. They obviously realize that the second they return to Twatter/Facebook they will be constantly harrased for destroying one of the best shows ever created, and deservedly so.

I think the season is critiqued because of how everyone seems out of character and doing things they have established they wouldn’t do, especially for no reason. Not so much because of bad battle tactics. Also yeah the night king was a bummer.
Oh definitely, but I think bad battle tactics absolutely fits into that. Tyrion was the same guy who saved King's Landing with his ingenious plan with Wildfire, and now he's bringing women and children into a crypt with dead people when the zombie king can bring the dead to life. It's betraying the characters we've come to know and love.

These writers used to write McDonald’s commercials. You cannot expect them to write Shakespeare all of the sudden.
Then Hbo shouldn't have hired them because Got is very complex even for someone with brilliant writing abilities let alone those two idiots.

@@exosproudmamabear558 They were hired because they were right for the job. The job wasn't supposed to be filling in two missing books back when this started.
@@NegatingSilence It all comes back to GRRM's writer block. If he at least released the winds of winter we wouldn't get this bad of an ending but then again it was obvious that Grrm wouldn't able to finish the books in time when they started to do series. It was obvious that he is a slow writer.
But at least they could just made an ending that don't insult our intelligence. Even a mediocre one would be enough to quench people but they just fucked it up bad.
