few b.s.-ts, first serbia (yugoslavia) was never part of soviet block, it was founder of the non-aligned block, that was between east and west, and it was not same kind of communism as in the soviet block it was actualy named "self-governing socialism". Its something closer to today's scandinavia than eastern block with elements of communism. Second, due to crisis and wars architecture arround city is a bit badly maintained but its fine, belgrade was never paris or prague, it was only a capital of a country that for centuries tried to be free in bloody wars and Belgrade never had a chance to develop in that way but for me and most of people it developed in good way and architecture that is simple and social that you were mentioning was no diferend from same kind of architecture that adorns for example afterwar germany, simple and social in 50s, 60s many refugees, industrialization, poverty, in second war serbs suffered lose of 20% people. Considering what we have survived in 20th century, i think we turned out preety well. Also sign for risking life is placed because there is a danger of falling out of bastion of fortress because there is no placed fence arround, people have to watch out.
Other issues fine, hope you have spent nice time here and that you will hopefully return again. You just scratched belgrade, there are so many other places you should have visit if you have time.

Serbia is not a post-Soviet country, it was never in the Soviet Eastern Bloc. Serbia was part of Yugoslavia, which was the leader of the non-aligned countries. One constructive critic...It's good that you said that you don't know a lot about Serbia because it's visible from things you say or conclude in the video. Nothing wrong in that but maybe that you keep away from conclusions especially without deeper understanding of the past-current political cultural and social situation. So your own experience is the only thing I would stick to because it's best thing you can give to your viewers. Or if you want to get more layered insight investigate, research and talk to relevant locals to help you get a more broadher overlook to present more accuratly and objectively. Good luck in your future travel reports.

Unlike some of the other European capitals, Belgrade was bombed for days and completely destroyed by the Nazis in 1941, and then again by the Allied forces in 1945. That’s why there are only a handful of beautiful buildings from the 1930’s, and a ton of ugly communist buildings that were quickly built after WWII. It is a true metropolitan though with a ton of cool things for everyone. Do come again and explore the night life.

What does Serbia have to do with the Soviets?
For something to be post-Soviet, that something should have previously been Soviet in the first place.

Most of the information said in this video was incorrect, but you're foreigners, I don't know everything about the countries I go traveling to, so it's okay. I see a lot of people were triggered by the soviet comments. 😅
When it comes to the Serbian language, it's as similar to Russian as it is to Polish or Czech and that's because all Slavic languages are related, the most in fact out of all Indo-European language groups.
I would recommend to vegans to ask for 'posno' options when they visit. The foods we eat for lent and fast do not contain animal products. The vegan restaurants are a newer phenomenon and they tend to be a bit more pricey, while 'posno' has existed for centuries and is usually on the cheap side. It's also a good way to try the local and traditional dishes for vegans.
You've been only to one part of the city. Belgrade is actually very big (for context, it's exactly a half of Singapore) and there was a looooooot more to explore and every part is different. But hey, that just means you'll have more to see if you ever come again!
I hope you've had a nice time in Belgrade! 🥰

@@cjexplores Yup, many people refer to it as “Berlin of the Balkans” because of it’s large and vibrant techno scene. But there are clubs for everyone, there’s jazz, rock, kpop, disco, metal, pop, Balkan turbo folk and pop, traditional music, etc.
During summer people mostly like to party “splav” those are the hundreds and hundreds of boats on the Sava and Danube rives. During winter old factories and industrial buildings turned into clubs are popular.
And, if you’d like to experience the traditional way of partying, you can always go to a kafana at night and have a fun time with all the cheerful people and musicians playing traditional music.
In Novi Sad, 30min by fast train north from Belgrade, there is a music festival called Exit that takes place on the Petrovaradin fortress every July and it was voted the best European festival multiple times!
An American friend of mine said it the best: “people here seem to work to live, and not live to work”. So yeah, we really like to have fun and celebrate many different things here.
But of course, if you don’t like to go to big parties, there are “calmer” variations of night life available everywhere, Belgrade is truly diverse and young people from all parts of Balkan come here to have some fun.
There are also many museums, monuments, archeological sites, recreational spaces, etc. Belgrade is not only one of the oldest constantly inhibited city in Europe, but in whole of the world, so there’s a lot to see and do, and every part is unique. To truly experience it’s charm you need a local to show you places, because I can see how it may look underwhelming to foreigners just walking around the center and being confused why people rave about the city so much! 😅

Interesting fact aboutthe War island as it is called in the center of the Danube is that it has many indigeneos sorts of birds nesting there so that is why it is not built on, yet at the sommer there are many people living there. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe and its eclectic architecture is mark of ages passed over Belgrade. Many cultures came and gone but Belgrade welcomes everibody, and all lieve a mark in Blegrade. Celts, Romans, Bysantine, Huns, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Germans and Slavs that are now Serbs came and made Belgrade a beautifull place. Paris is a city of light, Rome is a city of history, Belgrade is a city of memories, parties and stories. And finally yes, Rona went like nothing here. Hardship is no news for Serbs as more or less each generation of people has had a war.

There are so many urban areas with specific names, such as Banovo Brdo, Miljakovac, Zarkovo, Rakovica, Vidikovac, Zeleznik, etc., that you can't see because of the terrain. In other words, some 20km from the center are residential areas, some old, and some build after WWII. Regards

0:18 small correction, Serbia are not POST-SOVIET country(post soviet countries are: Bulgaria, ROmania, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbeijan, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia). SERBIA, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Croatia and Slovenia are POST-YUGOSLAV countries, not POST-SOVIET.
02:33 we do not have KHRUSHCHYOVKA buildings in Serbia, we have SOCIAL REALISM and MODERNISM architecture in Belgrade, it is architecture typical for former Yugoslavia states.

Serbia was s monarchy until the end of the second world war. Tito was forced upon Serbia and anyone who opposed him ended in a bad way. Tito was a "leftist" but completely different from Soviets. If you would like to explore more vegan stuff, I recommend you visiting Serbia during lent seasons, like Great lent or Christmas lent, since many dishes on many days should not contain oil let alone any animal product (apart from maybe honey). And many dishes would during that period would suit fine all the vegans. And another plus alcohol is also forbidden during that time. Many restaurants or bakeries would have these "lent options" in their menu which is essentially vegan dishes or pastries.

We had never visited before and it’s a ‘first impressions vlog’ we didn’t claim it be a complete guide. We read the wrong information online about it’s soviet history - since we realised our mistake we’ve read that it’s big misconception and it’s not post soviet. We apologise.

Serbia was never part of Soviet Union. But connections to Russia are based on Slavic brotherhood, Orthodox church and very old historic connection. In addition to WWI, WWII and recent history.

You really don't know much about Serbia, but you have no idea. So you better learn something before you start commenting. And when you don't know anything, then it's easiest to describe only what you see and nothing more.
