Fun fact about karadjordjeva snicla. It was created by a chef called Milovan Mića Stojanović. He used to be the personal chef of president Josip Broz Tito. He actually made it by accident, one of the foreign guests at some official dinner with Tito asked for chicken Kiev, but they ran out of chicken that night so Mića improvised and created the dish. He named it after the Karadjordjevo hunting grounds, which was the place where Tito went to hunt. Mića is still alive and owns a small restaurant in Zemun, it is called "Mićina Domaća Kujna". He doesn't cook anymore due to old age, but his son runs the kitchen as a chef and Mića often oversees the work. So if you want to try the karadjordjeva at its origin, feel free to visit the place.
Amazing to see, how you guys are enjoying real serbian food in the capital of Serbia. And it shows, that serbian are indeed very hospital with tourists. You guys should have try draft Lav beer, my favorite.
We tried all of the most popular Serbian beers we could find, including Lav, but we drank them at home! Haha. We enjoyed all the foods (and beers) we had. We're looking forward to returning some day.
Best Karadjordjeva in Belgrade by far is little outside of city.. About 30 minutes by bus. In Restaurant called Serbia on Ibarska. Trust me, well worth the trip. Huge and insanely delicious
17:31 - this red colored cheese is called "urnebes", the cheese gets its color from a hot red chili which is mixed together, for me personally a must-have when eating pljeskavica.
Brandon, when you tasted that sarma and your reaction, I felt that in my soul lol. Can't wait for sarma season (it's considered a staple in the winter months).
I love them so much! They're just so hearty and comforting. Even though they're mostly an Eastern European and Balkan dish, I actually grew up eating them (for some reason). We're actually headed to Kosovo soon - so we'll have another chance to eat them in the cooler months. Can't wait!
You have to try "Pečenje" what is the Serbian version of Suckling Pig with some Coleslaw Salat😍. And as first/side dish a good "Čorba" from Chicken/Fish or some Restoraunts even serve Beef Čorba. Of course there is much more like Kačamak, Meso Ispod Sača, etc. Wish you all the best, stay Hungry! ❤😁
We've heard a lot of people mention the suckling pig. We really want to try that since it sounds delicious. Thanks for all the other suggestions as well! We'll definitely try more things next time we are in Serbia 😊
I loved the whole video! As someone born in Serbia, spent whole my life. I'm so proud seeing you enjoy the food I love. I traveled just a bit but I felt so spoiled that I couldnt wait enough to get back home to eat the food I like. I guess there are also downsides of serbian food.. Everything is kinda fatty and high-calorie, so you basically need to make sure you're having that proactive life 😂 The other thing to consider, some meals taste better on their own without any sauces and side dishes, It might be my personal preference but yeah, worth taking a shot 😅 Much love from Serbia! 🥰
Thanks so much for watching! We weren't quite sure if Serbians usually put ajvar and kaymak with their cevapi and grilled meats like we did, but we REALLY enjoyed it together! The meats were amazing on their own as well. And the breads. And everything else. 😂
@@wherearewe-yt No Worries Yall did everything right, Cevape is supposed to be eaten with Kajmak, Onion and optional Ajvar. the only thing that was weird to me (which is not your guyses fault) is that Pljeskavica usually only eaten with either Pavlaka (Sour Creme) or Kajmak. i guess its just a new thing there, havent been in Serbia for years. Thank you both for putting in the research and appreciating the real Serbia normal Tourists wouldnt be able to show Grüße ausm Land der Finanzamt Mafia 😂
The best Serbian food is on south of Serbia. Cities of Niš, Pirot and Leskovac have very food. Probably the best barbecue in the world. Be sure to visit some or all of these cities. The quality and taste of food in Niš and Pirot is at a much higher level than in Belgrade. Enjoy Serbia and have a great time.
You are doing it right; you eat Burek as you would Pizza. I'm native Serbian/Montenegrin living in the US since the '80s and I miss the Serbian food so much. I can't wait to get there this summer and gobble up all those Serbian delicacies!
Welcome to serbia! Loved your reactions to all the food, but in terms of rakija, it's not meant to be shot down in one go lol. What you're meant to do is sip it, savor it, and enjoy it. Ziveli
You guys are awesome! Finally some great content, interesting, positive...i got hungry watching these cevapcici and kajmak 😄 😋🤤 Greetings from 🇩🇪🇲🇰to you both and great friends of🇷🇸
All the food was amazing! Many people said "Walter' has the best cevapi, but I don't know how it could possibly be better than where we ate. It was perfect. And incredibly affordable!
I've been fortunate enough to have a mother who is Serbian, and have grown up with this food so so yummy! One dish you missed is Punjena Paprika (Stuffed Bell Peppers) - so good with the yellow peppers, or red! Great video much love from 🇭🇲
Thanks so much! We actually try stuffed peppers in our Novi Sad video, but they were fried and stuffed. The ones you mentioned were on our list, but there were just too many delicious things to try in such a small amount of time. You're lucky to grow up with such great foods! I (Brandon) am a third generation Canadian, so I grew up with casseroles and meatloaf. 😂
You did some very good research and had good intuition, congratulations. If you like food, try traveling Serbia for 3 months. It might just change your life.
Next time you come, make sure to get a tip from locals about some inns at the outskirts of town! Best places to try traditional Serbian food are usually located in the neighborhoods 8-10km from the city center. They're not very touristy like places in the city center, but the prices are much lower and the food quality higher. And komplet lepinja is definitely to be tried in its origin city Užice! Also, I highly recommend visiting the southern Serbia. As much as Vojvodina has the Austro-Hungarian vibe, the spirit of Osmanic empire can be felt in the south. Also, the food in the south is to die for!
Most people have said that we need to visit the south. I'm really curious to see how the food is going to be different. It was already amazing in Belgrade and the other places we visited in the north so I can't even imagine what it will be like 😊. We'll probably be visiting the South in the summer.
What an amazing video guys! And you both pronounce serbian words pretty good, but lady wins, her pronounce is spot on! I hope that you had a great time over here.
”Maybe its a nightmare” 🤣🤣🤣 ps. If you ever eat a Karadjordjeva again, try to squeeze some lemon over it - makes it so much tastier with the tartar sauce
Thanks! We will take it in any form. They are all so good. Especially with some yogurt to go with it. Soon, we will actually be heading back to the Balkans, which will include Kosovo. We're looking forward to more burek already. 😋
Ich könnte es auch in deutsch schreiben , aber doch besser auf englisch . You two made very nice videos about Serbian culinary journeys. Of course there are so many more, such as sausage days, cabbage days or pumpkin days and much more, but what is important is that everything is natural and traditional. You are a great duo. Thanks :-3
Thanks for the suggestions! It's hard to fit so many foods in one video, but we did our best. There are many more things we would love to try in the future. 😃
You did a great job on almost perfect pronunciation. You obviously practiced and that shows a great deal of respect for a country you are visiting . I liked and subscribed!
Thanks! We appreciate it. We tried to practice saying the names of the food before filming, but as soon as the camera turns on - we tend to forget everything. The names were quite difficult for us but we did our best. 😅😂
@@wherearewe-yt regarding ćevapčići vs ćevapi - obviously it is the same thing , it just became easier for some people to use shorter version , but since you mentioned that you are from Germany - here is the fun fact : Bundeswehr has Cevapcici with rice as one of the versions of their pre packed field rations for soldiers .
That's really interesting, the soldiers must be happy about that. In Germany you can also get ćevapčići with rice as a pre-made microwavable meal. I used to buy it all the time, but it's nowhere near as good as the real deal 😆😊
😅😅😅 OMG - I MISS SERBIA 😭😭😭 ... Serbian , living in Germany for more then 10 years ( yesss , here I ate some very delicious food too ) BUT some of the Serbian foods are very hard to beat - like Pljeskavica ( or any grilled meat 😋) ... First time I tried Kebab here in Germany I didnt like it - AT ALL 🥴.. Maybe bcs I am very spoiled about meat . Oh , I know what tastes perfectly, like from Heaven... But one should understand that really GREAT FOOD comes from the best ingredients . The thing about Serbia is - we have perfect balance of SUN and enough rain therefore Serbian ingredients are the best one in the world , so its pretty much easy to cook great meals . Once I watched Jamie Oliver who spoke about importance of ingredients and he rated Serbia as A ➕ and particular part of Serbia called Stig , just south of Belgrade around Pozarevac as A ➕ ➕ . He said - the very best ingredients in the world . I know he is right, Im very spoiled 🤷🏻♀️
We could definitely taste the quality of the meat in Serbia. I think I said this at least two or three times in the video, but I couldn't help it. 😂 We love kebabs in Gernany as well though! Especially in Berlin, where Anja is from. Nostalgic taste for us! We have had a couple of recommendations for cities in the south to visit for BBQ meat. We will try and come back for those, a few months from now!
@@BorisTeodosijevic That's so interesting! We sipped the four rakija we showed in B-Roll (the ones we didn't try in the video) because we were sharing them all. Guess we will have to sip them next time. 😁

Thank you very much for visiting our Serbia! I very like your videos and hope that you are honest tottally in videos.I know what food we have now the rest od the world can see it. Bis nexte mal, gutte reise!
When you asked the guy to add how ever he eats it. Usually in Serbia we use all the toppings if not chargable. 😂 We say chevapchichi as well, but to make it easier for foreigners we use word chevapi. ❤ Tres leches we call here Koh its the old cake recipe here, but not sure if its original or coming from other countries. Its one of those easy cakes that you make with what you have but somehow it become fancy. 😂
Hahaha. Sounds like me! Especially since I love spicy as well. Anja, not so much! Someone else mentioned koh. Is there a difference between koh and Trileçe? It was written as trileçe on the menu - but when I look up images of koh, it looks the same. 🤔
Very nice video, you are really doing great! But as a Serbian guy i would defininetly suggest if you really want to do food tour in Serbia you should start with south cities like Pirot, Niš, Vranje.... and then go to either west or east cites where also its really traditional original food. North has lots of choices to be fair, but the real deal starts down :) All best on your journey
I swear, we've had a few dozen people suggest the south now. We plan to return to Serbia a few months from now to explore that region. We've gotten so many amazing suggestions, I feel like it's a must now! Especially Niš. We've heard it's got the best food! We can't wait to go.
Hahaha. Our channel is focused largely around food, for sure. That's what most people want to see! We can see through our analytics which parts of the videos have the highest retention, and it's always when we're showing food. We also love trying local food when we travel!
@@wherearewe-ytI'm glad I made you laugh! And yes, besides architecture, food is also important to people, which in my opinion is the best in the Balkans, because it is an area where many cultures have met, as well as different kitchen , in any case, enjoy people, I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart 🎉❤
I didn't know Serbian's had Burek. Only think of it as a Turkish dish. Then Tres Leches cake and the last dessert was basically the French Floating Island dish. The meringue is poached so it is firm. Interesting mix of foods.
It was an interesting mix, for sure! There is a very clear Ottoman influence in the food of many of the Balkan countries. Though if you ask a local from most of these countries, they will all claim the dishes as their own. Haha.
@@wherearewe-yt For Pecenje prasetina (roast pork) you can go in BSK in Belgrade or, as many people say, two best restaurants for this kind of food in Serbia: Mali Hrast and Kod postara in city Arandjelovac (close to Belgrade). In this video you can see how that look like: ua-cam.com/video/62A6ppTD-fU/v-deo.html&pp=ygUQZ2FzdHJvIHRyYXppbGljYQ%3D%3D.
"Janjetina" (lamb) sa ražnja is best in Jablanica - Bosnia and Herzegovina. If you wonder if it is in Bosnia or is it in Herzegovina😅. It is actualy in Herzegovina. It's on the way from Mostar to Sarajevo.
Great video great energy, first time coming to this channel and im amazed. The reactions and the energy are so honest and you two go very well together.Definitely hyped for more vids from Serbia and we are sending you the best greetings from serbia
Thank you for the compliment! We've got three more coming in this series. Novi Sad is up next, on Friday. Then we'll have Subotica, and finally a video where we try Serbian snacks. Stay tuned!
Yes, cevapcici is just a small cevapi in Serbian and your pronunciation in video is top. Kaymak is clothed cream, modern is made out of cow milk mostly, but originally it came from sheep milk, but now days sheep milk and dairy products are rare, cause of industrialization of agriculture. Well it looks they put all the free adds to your sausage, that white is known as kisela pavlaka, in Russian is called smetana, literally sour cream, and I think they add urnebes (means hilarious) salad, mix of cheese with chili paprika flakes, that is popular dip not really salad, but you guys already realize that we call salad, things that are not really salad lol in old days garlic is also added, but garlic is now little bit non fashionable lol For your dessert choices, all sweets you eat are highly influenced by Central European culture, and schnenokle, koch ( and tri leces is just variation from Latin America ) and cakes like reforma, you can find in different varieties from Germany, Austria, Hungary all the way to Serbia, Romania, North Macedonia, Albania. And not forget that lands of former Yugoslavia were divided for few centuries between Habsburg, Venetian, and Ottoman states, and that there’s lots of mixed influence in heritage. Once again I am glad you liked here and get back in summer, you want regret.
We definitely loved the food, although some of it was quite heavy and meaty. Luckily we aren't vegetarians 😂. We loved the Kaymak and Ajvar so much, we even brought home a tub of each. Thanks, we will definitely be back in Serbia some time this year and check out the south. Everyone is telling us to come to Nis 😊
@@milanvelickovic6666 Guess we have to go there! We had the dish "Leskovac Mućkalica" when we were in Belgrade - but it didn't make it into the video. Guess we will have to try that when we make it to Leskovac as well to see how it compares!
Great job on the video, excellent! If you'd like to listen to my suggestion for next time, visit something outside the city center, like a grill house (with roasted piglet, lamb on a spit...) or an ethno village, to experience the authentic traditional Serbian cuisine. Try some beer from a smaller brewery; in my opinion, the beer you drank was the worst produced in Serbia. Hope you return to Serbia 😇
Thanks! It's a bit hard to make it outside of the city center with limited time and no car, but we will likely return to Serbia to explore more in the future. 😃
Probajte nešto ispod sača, to je zemljani sud koji se prekriva žarom i pepelom, obično je sve u njemu, krompir, šargarepa, povrće i od mesa jagnjetina, jaretina, svinjetina...Dobro došli i prijatno

Guys, so happy you loved all of it :) and so proud :) You are amazing, and videos + choice of food - great. Just one important thing (advice) though - Next time you are around (and hope you will be :)) please, do not ever, never, ever - ever SHOT rakija!!! So glad you are enjoying our food 😊😊
We loved everything! 😍
Hvala vam sto ste posetili nasu lepu SRBIJU veliki pozdrav uzivajte
Hvala! We had an amazing time.
That's awesome! Thanks for letting is know. Maybe we will check it out some day.
I live in Germany and OmG,I was watching all the bytes and Ćevapi and that Burek..So Yammmy❤
It was all super delicious! We are currently filming in Germany. Going to have a couple videos coming from here in the future!

We loved Serbian food. 😍
Welcome to Serbia!! Food here is extra becouse is organic( egg,meat...).not GMO
That must be why the meat is so good. Not even joking when I say, some of the best we have ever had! The grilled meats were incredible. 😋
Exactly!! Pozdrav .Uzivajte!!
@@wherearewe-ytOf course, with the correct preparation of the meat and the addition of spices, which are usually just salt and pepper.
Great to see my Canadians enjoying food in my homeland.
We loved it! Anja is German, though. It's only me (Brandon) who's Canadian. 🇨🇦
Best Karadjordjeva in Belgrade by far is little outside of city.. About 30 minutes by bus. In Restaurant called Serbia on Ibarska. Trust me, well worth the trip. Huge and insanely delicious
Maybe we will have to try some time! The one we had was delicious as well - as was all of the other food there. 😋
17:31 - this red colored cheese is called "urnebes", the cheese gets its color from a hot red chili which is mixed together, for me personally a must-have when eating pljeskavica.
We loved it! Even Anja liked it, and she usually doesn't like spice of any kind. Haha.
Very delicious food. And beautiful places
The food was absolutely incredible! We loved it.
Love my home country. Can’t wait to go back. Great vid. Cheers guys.

Brandon, when you tasted that sarma and your reaction, I felt that in my soul lol. Can't wait for sarma season (it's considered a staple in the winter months).

We tried to try as much as we could! We missed a few things, so we will have to return some day to try some other items.
Thanks you for filming our country ❤❤❤🇷🇸🇷🇸🇷🇸
@@wherearewe-yt Yeah best thing is you don't have to buy it the hole, it's cut into peaces and portions 😁
Thank you both for putting in the research and appreciating the real Serbia normal Tourists wouldnt be able to show

We have heard many great things about the food in Niš. We plan on going there next time - and to the south in general.
Thanks for watching!
I second this. Taste bbq in Leskovac, you'll remember it for the rest of your life 😊
Leskovac bbq + ajvar, Pirot ironed sausage + cheese and Nis burek are my Holy Trinity
You are doing it right; you eat Burek as you would Pizza. I'm native Serbian/Montenegrin living in the US since the '80s and I miss the Serbian food so much. I can't wait to get there this summer and gobble up all those Serbian delicacies!
We loved it all! We will likely be back in the Balkans one last time, before we head over to Asia. Already looking forward to more burek and cevapi!
Welcome to serbia! Loved your reactions to all the food, but in terms of rakija, it's not meant to be shot down in one go lol. What you're meant to do is sip it, savor it, and enjoy it. Ziveli

Thanks for saying that! We will likely come sometime this year..but next time, not during the winter. We want to see the south. 😄
All the best greetings from Serbia🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Hvala!
Im so grateful that you are pesenting my country in such a beautiful way, great video, keep up the good work!!
Thank you very much! We had a great time, and loved the food as well. 😄

You have to shake the yogurt first! Thye cheese in serbian burek (round burek) is called urda - similar to ricotta in Italy.
We shook it lots before filming, don't worry! We love that cheese. So good.

We love kebabs in Gernany as well though! Especially in Berlin, where Anja is from. Nostalgic taste for us!
We have had a couple of recommendations for cities in the south to visit for BBQ meat. We will try and come back for those, a few months from now!

Tres leches we call here Koh its the old cake recipe here, but not sure if its original or coming from other countries.
@@wherearewe-yt Yes it's different. It's just coincidence that both are filled with milk, but it is different. In Koh there is no caramel.
Probajte teletinu pod saćem 🤤
Ćevap (kebab) is bigger cca 70+ grams, while ćevapčić is half of it and the name is just diminutive.
Great video, like the previous one. Looking forward to see the next! Thank you guys 🙂
Thanks for watching, again! Next video will be our trip to Novi Sad.

Haha.

It feels like that every time I have to edit these videos! Hahaha. Always makes me so hungry. 😫
@wherearewe-yt 😆 it's torture fr
Well it looks they put all the free adds to your sausage, that white is known as kisela pavlaka, in Russian is called smetana, literally sour cream, and I think they add urnebes (means hilarious) salad, mix of cheese with chili paprika flakes, that is popular dip not really salad, but you guys already realize that we call salad, things that are not really salad lol in old days garlic is also added, but garlic is now little bit non fashionable lol
For your dessert choices, all sweets you eat are highly influenced by Central European culture, and schnenokle, koch ( and tri leces is just variation from Latin America ) and cakes like reforma, you can find in different varieties from Germany, Austria, Hungary all the way to Serbia, Romania, North Macedonia, Albania.
Great job on the video, excellent! If you'd like to listen to my suggestion for next time, visit something outside the city center, like a grill house (with roasted piglet, lamb on a spit...) or an ethno village, to experience the authentic traditional Serbian cuisine.
