I'm trying to replace this part on my 2005 Spectra and haven't found a video that really shows me where it is until now. I've checked forums with and without diagrams, no luck. Videos where someone is talking 90 mph and not showing any close ups of what they're describing. After watching this video, I'm beginning to understand now where the solenoid is and becoming less afraid of trying to replace it. I'm a single Mom in recovery and I don't have extra help or resources right now so I want to thank you for breaking this down easier for those of us with little or no experience, and for making it seem less daunting.
Dunno if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend for the last few weeks xD
Had to replace the Purge Control Solenoid Valve on my 2006 Kia Rio. The check engine light came on and the code was P0496. Went to Mississauga Kia and they quoted $75 for the part plus tax and one and a half hours labour at $112 an hour +13% tax. (Nearly $200) it seemed a bit high to me so I thought I’d try the next closest Kia dealer 401 Dixie Kia. I had bought parts there before and they had given me discounts. For the part they told me the list price was $68 and they did give me a bit of a discount as it had to be special ordered. Apparently the dealers are not held to list prices and it does look like Mississauga Kia charges above list for parts. Again 401 Dixie Kia quoted 1 1/2 hours labour at $112 an hour to replace the part. As I had found this video on UA-cam where the part is replaced in a four minute video with about half of that just extra chitchat I thought I would try to do it myself. Ok I wasn’t able to do it in two minutes like the video and I did find the electrical clip and one of the hose clips a little hard to get off. One short piece of hose appeared to be worn out so I had to go out again to find a replacement and that added to the time. In any case I was so glad to have found this video showing me how to do it and very happy to have saved nearly $200.
Kim Walker I'm about to do the same. The garage I went to wanted $200 for the part and around 90 for labor. I can buy the part for $60 plus have a $5 coupon and a 20 percent discount from autozone.
loved the video, you were able to show everything without being in the way like the others i viewed . my only question is is there something other than the two small hoses and the ;pug keep the valve in place
Great video. Helped resolve P0496 code on our 2009 Kia Rio LX. Pretty easy job; two vacuum lines and an electrical connector. Only challenge for me was access. The purge valve is located between the throttle body and the firewall. Not much room to work, especially if you’ve got big hands.
sdaegwhite There is another part of the purge system near the fuel tank yes, (usually called charcoal canister etc). They are usually model specific so you'd have to find instructions on the optima. I haven't made a video on that model yet sorry!
Afraid I’m not sure exact location on that car model without looking at it but usually that valve will be very close to the plenum (upper intake manifold)
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii Hello and thanks for the speedy response. I have the piece off now it's getting the purge valve out of the rubber bracket. The 1st issue was unscrewing 2 bolts connected to the motor.

Frank Mendez I'm afraid I've never worked on one of those! You'll have to keep searching. Usually they are up on top or just behind the plenum. I recommend looking up the replacement part online so you know what you're looking for too!
Thanks for usefull video. By the way ıf dont mind could you please explicate the rubber tube which placed on the air hose near throttle butterfly and also show the maf sensor. Thank you in deed.
Budget Mechanic In Hawaii At 1.11 minute, hold it with your right hand. Our car does not have maf sensor. But I dont understand meant of that rubber tube. Thank you.
Attention;this video is wrong!!!This guy tells you to put the valve back on with the (big rounded )side going to the exhaust manifold. That is incorrect. Its actually reversed. The smaller rounded side or the side where you put the rubber back on should go to the exhaust manifold.I took his advice and put it on backwards and the check engine light came on again the next day along with some terrible gas mileage. The first code was P0496 which is a (high purge flow). So when I watched this video and followed it the check engine light returned. Then that light code read P0497 which is a(low purge flow)exactly just the opposite. So that told me that i might have put it on backwards. So I reversed it and sure enough, the engine light went off and never returned. But my great gas mileage did return. So reinstall your new valve just the opposite of what this guy says and i assure you it will fix your high flow or low flow problem.
Thanks for taking the time to report your findings! We are looking into this and will add corrections as needed!! We want to provide the most accurate and helpful information possible!

Good job ,what are symptoms of bad purge valve ?!thanks
Do you recomend disconnect the car battery before work with the sensors?
Very helpful thanks a lot 😊
You're welcome 😊
Going to try this on my 2006 Kia Rio let’s see if it works! Will update
Thank you it helps me out to find the valve
thank you!
How so you replace the PV708 canister purge value solenoid that is close to or by the fuel tank is there a How to video for the Kia Optima 2006
sdaegwhite There is another part of the purge system near the fuel tank yes, (usually called charcoal canister etc). They are usually model specific so you'd have to find instructions on the optima. I haven't made a video on that model yet sorry!
The hose clamp on the passenger side of the solenoid is angled in such a way I can't reach it with anything. This'll be extra fun.
Im having the same problem right now. Also can't pinch the sensor hard enough😅
There's also a arrow that points to the engine!
Can you tell me the which direction the arrow is supposed to point when the PCV valve is in correctly?
Pcv usually can only go one way, but if in doubt try blowing thru it, air should only go one way: should be able to leave valve cover but not re-enter
Greetings and thanks for the post. Is this the same for a 2006 Kia Optima 2.7V6. Cant locate the Purge valve. Help????

Done. Thank you
Still having the same issue after replacing the solenoid and gas cap. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Maybe the canister on the fuel tank then
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii thank you. I'll look into that. Also someone said it could be the o-rings in the fuel rail

Not sure on that one sorry! Keep researching tho!
Did this fix your problem?
As I recall, on this particular car, it didn’t. Had to go after the canister at the fuel tank as well...
@BudgetMechanicHawaii is there a video on how to do that?
Im having MAYOR difficulties taking out the sensor and the left hose after 30 mins struggling. Im just gonna take a break .
I’ve change mine twice and still getting the same cod p0449 I checked the lines and nothing is working.
It is possible then that the unit near the fuel tank is faulty

That rubber tube is an aftermarket air filter so if your car is stock it won't have it so just ignore that part.

I bought that part on ebay for $9.00

@@BudgetMechanicHawaii true?
@@BudgetMechanicHawaii what do you mean air should pass through only 1 direction?
jdjones821 the valve is designed to let air thru in one direction only
