Thank you so much! The most challenging part about working on my Kia Rio 5 is that there is no manual to tell me where to look for this stuff. Your video made it easy to find and repair.
07 Kia Rio LX 109K miles First Thanks second look at other wire connects and see how others work. There is one near this one. One needs to press the tab to the body of the connector. I snapped mine and had to use a small screw driver to get it off. Three I could not get the rubber off the motor so I can to pull it off the Purge Valve, the side farthest from you. Good luck with your jobs. I am trying to fix a PO456 code and have to push the gas to the floor every time I full up. Only have to do this on the first start after filling up. Otherwise the car runs fine.
So I have a Kia Rio 2006 and every time I put gas in my car I have to idle it or give it gas and hurry and drive off or it will die ...could it be my purge valve?
@Sam Reyes. There will really be almost no symptoms of bad purge value. Fuel efficiency might drop a little and if the valve is stuck open you might hear a small whistling noise as you press on the gas pedal. You could get two possible error codes. P0496: The valve is stuck open and you might hear a faint whistle sound. P0496: Valve is stuck closed. Closed Is the normal position and it open every now and then. I highly suggest everyone invest in a cheap 20$ usb engine error code reader.
Great video, Thanks. I didn't have to remove the electrical connector on top but had some long needle nose pliers that were bent at a 45 on the end. Thanks again
Yeah, um...the canister vent valve doesn't go there.lol. Saw you holding the wrong part up in the beginning, but figured maybe you were getting to that afterwards. The first part you tried to use is the "canister vent valve solenoid" and is located at the rear of the car next to the charcoal canister...Many times a P0449 code is associated with that part failing. Its ok, I fd up on it last year when I went to change the vent valve and accidentally bought the purge valve. Ended up keeping the purge valve anyway and changed it out as a precautionary measure.
i know have been 8 years since this comment, but do you know if that vent valve has to be installed taking out the gas tank or can I access only lifting the vehicle?
I have a 2013 kia rio lx 4 door sedan. I had a new purge value put on and the check engine light still on and when tried to rest it will not go off. It was connected to a diagnostic machine and it still is saying tje same thing purge value. Also the battery was disconnected for about 20 min as instructed by auto zone and that didnt work. Fo you have sny idea why it will not go off
Hello John, Thank you so much for this helpful video. Would you please help me locate the Pressure Control Solenoid valve A (code P0745) for the same car Kia Rio? I am stuck with this issue please help me. Thank you in advance. Nader
I have an 08 Rio that has been stalling some when I come down from a high speed (50+ mph) to a lower speed (normally 20-30 mph) and then try to accelerate again. It lags and rpms go nowhere. I thought maybe my MAG sensor was dirty. I open my hood and can't find my MAF anywhere. It is not located between my air filter and throttle body like yours in the video. Might I just not have a MAF sensor? If not, would you have a recommendation on what to do for this issue? I'm not throwing any codes.
Breckmin cleaned the throttle body and changed transmission fluid. Ran some seafoam in the engine and changed the oil a few miles afterwards. . Haven't felt it happen again. Not sure what did it. It was rare to begin with.
+bradley gregg my problem turned out to be the ignition coil pack in the number 1 cylinder. it turned out that the ignition coil was shorting/grounding to the side of the spark plug tube at low rpms when engine was accelerating... especially between 1500rpms and 2200rpms going uphill
+Breckmin did you just change the ignition coil and problem solved? had it somehow degraded to that point of being so loose or something? not sure how this would happen. that's one of the only repairs I've ever really had to do to the car. number 3 ignition coil went out one day.
That's a different purge valve, located at the back of the car near the charcoal tank vent box and vents the gas tank to atmosphere. This one is the EVAP Purge Valve which does the same job as the other one, but for use when the car is running, and vents the tank into the combustion chamber to be burnt, instead of to atmosphere, as when the car is off. Symptoms will be nothing noticeable except the P0496 engine code.
@@samurphywhich one causes po496?? That’s the only code I’m having rn. The one under the hood was supposedly changed already by the previous owner. But not the one in the rear, I need help. Thanks
I have a 2008 Kia Rio it had a new fuel pump and spark plugs. When I put gas in it everytime it want start I have to keep trying it and give a little acceleration just to get it crunk. Can someone please tell me what could be causing this?

Thanks John. I am not sure if our 2010 Soul is the same but now I know what to look for.

Eryon yes it happens to mine too . That’s the first sign.
Still got the kia?
@Sam Reyes.

Mouhanad Kalas Those little cheap readers will not read Kia codes. At least not my reader.
Daniel Voyles They should are you sure you're connecting it properly?
I used this tinyurl . com/omxo7um
I used OBD Auto doctor as my software.
Mouhanad Kalas There is pretty much only one way to connect it.
I have a 2010 Kia Rio. Would this be the same location and steps to replace?
Fix it?
Hey I fixed this same exact part and year on it ,the purge code went away but now it says po497 ; low purge flow condition, any ideas?
Good job Sir. I will visit your webpage. Thanks from Ecuador.
I have a 2013 Kia Rio and mine looks a little different. Would it still be in the same area as this one for the 2006?
Great video, Thanks. I didn't have to remove the electrical connector on top but had some long needle nose pliers that were bent at a 45 on the end. Thanks again
I know I'm pretty off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch newly released series online ?
@Jerry Maxim Flixportal :P
@Kace Rory thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I really appreciate it!
@Jerry Maxim glad I could help =)
My question is, does the computer re-scan the sensor or do you HAVE to do it manually?
i think u have to do it manually.
This video was very helpful. Thank you.
A part number in the description would be awesome. Looks like the first part they sold you was for a 2008.
I REALLY could use a video on a 2007 Kia Spectra canister vent valve solenoid replacement!!!!!!
Yeah, um...the canister vent valve doesn't go there.lol.

+Hassan Alhassan I am having the same problem with my '07 Rondo, did you ever get yours figured out?
Hassan Alhassan doesn't only take a long time to start after putting gas in the car? that's the issue I'm having.

nad nn I have problem like you p0745
Cool. I have a 2003 Kia Rio. Are the same parts pretty much in the same place on this model?
Thanks Guys! It worked!
I can't get the electrical connection to click onto the valve is there a trick to it?

My phone auto corrected MAF to MAG once in there. Sorry

What was the problem or symptom of the failed purge valve ?
ka ch a lot of people usually replace the purge valve because of an evap flood, like once you fill the tank it won't start easily

a defective purge valve can turn the engine off?

Maybe fuel filter?
*whispers* "were still recording"
"Its ok you can still edit it" XD XD
This saved my ass though. Thank you!!
So funny!! I was given the same "wrong part" lol
I like.this one. show what I need to know..explan in detail.
would this cause your car not to start?
Is this job for P0496?
kidockyodo i have the same question?
yes, for my case.
What’s the answer?
how frustrating! I got pissed when you found out the people gave you the wrong part. that happens to me ALLLLL the time. lol.
Thanks
Good job 👍
